Getting in over 60 grams of protein

Lean deli meats--turkey, chicken, etc. Can you handle low fat Greek Yogurt? If you shop for yogurt you will find products that have around 100 calories, 15 grams of protein and 7 grams or less of natural sugar. Yogurt has become my go to for snack foods. It is also a tad less expensive than deli products. -
Getting in over 60 grams of protein
Danny Paul replied to Crissy A's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
By mid morning I have 46 grams of the 80 grams of protein I need for the day. For breakfast I eat One hard boiled egg (6grams) One Oikos Triple Yogurt (15 grams) and 30 minutes later I start drinking 32 ounces of water with one scoop of Isopure "unflavored" protein powder (25grams) with crystal light and Optifiber. The rest of the day I'm eating mostly fish, beans, nuts or other seafood. I stopped drinking protein shakes when I found "unflavored" protein powder. I get a twofer, protein and my water. Note: The Isopure "unflavored" protein powder has it's own taste and I had to get use to it. The better tasting "unflavored" protein powder is Unjury (21grams) but it does cost more. -
Weight Gain at Week 3-5- Failing at WLS
MissLindseyR replied to MissLindseyR's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I do use the unsweetened almond milk. I try to eat my greek yogurt, but where I was stuck on it for so long, I can't stomach too much. I did eat a bout 75% of one yesterday. I also did not do my cheerios last night, but I only got in about 500 calories. Night time is the hardest, my stomach doesn't seem to want much. -

I recommend switching to unsweetened almond milk and plain yogurt, and no Cheerios during the weight loss period. And have you added up your daily protein total with an app like MyFitnessPal yet? It seems like it may be less than 60g per day. -

How Much Protein?
Diana_in_Philly replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So - I exercise a lot - I fence (en garde) 6 hours a week and spend about another 6 in the gym, including serious weightlifting (I just back squatted 215 pounds and front 165. I can deadlift 190.) I'm working to build muscle and get rid of fat. I'm 2 years post surgery. My goal is about 120 g protein daily. Once you develop a plan, it's not that hard - Breakfast - shake/smoothie - 8 ounces Fairlife skim milk, scoop of protein powder, 2 tablespoons Oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt and 3/4 cup frozen tropical fruit. 270 cal, 38g protein AM Snack - 1 5.3ounce container Oikos triple zero yogurt - 120 calories - 15 grams protein Lunch - 4 ounces of chicken breast chopped and mixed with 1 tablespoon of pesto - 147 calories 29 grams protein plus some salad greens with a little balsamic dressing Afternoon snack - deli ham and cheese roll ups - 4 slices deli ham, four slices deli cheese (provolone) - 17 g, 160 calories So before dinner - I'm at 99 grams -- If I have 5 ounces of fish or shrimp with zucchini noodles done sort of scampi style (32 grams of protein) and I'm at about 1,000 calories. I do add some carbs in because I need them for muscle healing, but I exercise probably 1200 calories a day. FWIW - I'm 57 years old, 5'3" and 155 pounds right now. I haven't had plastics done so I'm carrying about 10 pounds of skin and fat that will only come off when I have plastics. My bariatric team and my medical trainers are all good with what I'm doing. -
Weight Gain at Week 3-5- Failing at WLS
MissLindseyR posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I am 5 weeks, almost 6 weeks since my gastric bypass. I did have an IUD put in on day 9 and haven't stopped bleeding. That might be TMI but it might help explain some things. After week 2, I got down to 261lbs. I was 283 in the hospital after surgery. I did really well. Now I'm up to 266.5. Some daily info on me is my BMR is 1962.85, I use about 2,777 calories a day, I take in about 60 to 70 oz of water, and I eat about 800 calories a day. Why am I gaining weight? I've been around this weight for the last 3 weeks. I've heard of stalls, but a 3 week stall right out of the gate? Am I failing at weight loss surgery? As far as exercise, I haven't been released to do anything besides walk, and I could be better at that. I will get on that actually, going to try to hit the gym tomorrow and get back on track with that. My food looks like this: Morning: Protein shake with 20g protein, 9 carbs, 7g fiber, 2g sugar (I have to use plant based for it to not come back up) I add 8oz of almond milk and decaf coffee. I use very low fat low sugar almond milk with 30 calories. Lunch: either 2 pieces of sliced turkey with 2 pieces of thin sliced cheese or Tuna or Greek Yogurt and a baby bel Snack: light baby bel Dinner: Usually the same as lunch, however, I haven't been tolerating much for dinner very well so I have had two night of cherrios and almond milk for a total of 130 calories. I was released to eat cold cereals as long as they have less than 3g of sugar. I will take any advice, any dinner advice, any work out advice. Please help a momma out!!! Thanks -
Once I got to Stage 4 (that would be today, 2 weeks post-op) my NUT said I could have the seeds in strawberries and raspberries, also flax seed meal and ground chia seeds. I can add them to yogurt, smoothies and pureéd soups. The added variety is simply wonderful. I will probably never eat jello again!

Cat B... I feel sorry for you 😊 if I had to go 5 weeks total on liquids... I would be hangry... on post op day 2 I had yogurt since my stomach didn’t tolerate hot or cold fluids.. Baby foods were not allowed by my program and are really bland but it is easy to puree anything in the food processor. I did baked chicken breast, baked salmon, baked cod, black beans, cauliflower, green beans and canned tuna. Everything was good except the tuna and the green beans which were just okay. I did buy some little applesauce cups (natural, no sugar) but other than that made it all myself. The key with the meats is to bake them in liquid (broth) and then add things like greek yogurt, light butter, ranch dressing and broth to make the consistency smooth and not too dry. I used a lot of Montreal Steak and Montreal Chicken Seasonings because I really like them on just about anything. Since you are only eating very small amounts (1-2 tablespoons for me) I only had to cook and puree stuff about once a week (my puree stage was 4 weeks).

Hello I'm 8 days post op, it's challenging just remember to sip sip sip, get plenty of protein to help with hunger. I have found other protein because most people get burned out drinking a lot of shakes. I found the Oikos triple 0 Greek yogurt and has 15 grams of protein vanilla flavor. Also if you're in the pureed stage you can take your meats and puree into your broth or if you guys have ever tried like the vegetarian Morningstar products or Boca. I like the breakfast sausage patties with Morningstar and some other things so just if you want something to snack on for protein their 9 or 10 grams of protein per patty you can take a look at the other products also good to puree in broth. I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners because they make me feel like crap and also they have so many bad chemicals in them I try to stick with things with stevia and it but it's challenging to find some things. I hope this information is helpful to you guys and I wish everyone well on this journey we're all on[emoji4] Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi there once again. I hope that everything goes smoothly with you and you don’t have the flight issues I did. When my flight was delayed I immediately emailed Ana to inform the lady Lana who was picking me up. Ana then told me at around noon to one in the afternoon to eat a yogurt and drink water but then nothing else so I could have the surgery that evening. I really didn’t feel faint or weak at all. It was not that difficult not to eat or drink on the flights (I had two flights going and coming, the flights were short and they only served snacks and drinks). I think you’re too excited, nervous, anxious while you’re going to feel hungry or dehydrated really. When you’re coming back you won’t feel hunger after surgery. You will only feel like eating out of habit, mental hunger not physical nagging hunger at all. After surgery you won’t feel hungry they way you used to at all. I did the same preop you described. The first few days were rough adjusting to healthy eating and it’s preop so the hunger is still there but after that it was smooth sailing. By the time I got to the three day yogurt and water days I was fine with just eating yogurt and didn’t feel too bad at all. Plus I lost like 7 pounds on the preop so extra bonus!! Their postop care is good. I email Ana and she answers right away. They will also give you detailed instructions at the hospital for your postop diet up till 30 days postop. You will get a clear idea of what you an eat. Stock up on low sugar juices, broths, chamomile teas, and sugar free jello for the first ten days postop. For vitamins they only require you take a Megared, sold at most pharmacies and Target, and chewable biotin. I do take my vitamins daily and so far so good. I hope I answered everything. Let me know if any other question pops in your head. -
I gave up my sugar free in 5th day post op
Redapples replied to Redapples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pureed stage will be yogurt, fish, chicken avocado etc.(that's on my plan) I will be able to have more than liquids. I have diet drinks that I will drink. Remember I'm only doing 8 oz of reg tea a day to help me. I was to weak I'm sure my team would have agreed with me instead of me passing out of low sugar I had to what I needed to do. I know this is not heard of doing this is my journey I'm not promoting to give into sugar just sharing my experiences. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Started mushy early.. anyone else?? And how did it go?
Chunkysoup replied to samie0810's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
On my plan we were allowed full liquids which included protein shakes and creamed soups the day after surgery. At 14 days post op we are allowed to start soft foods (my program does not do a puréed stage) which includes tuna/chicken/egg salad, refried beans, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, string cheeses, and Greek yogurt. There are a lot of differences in each program. Just wanted to share what and when my plan allows food. And in my opinion it’s fairly early compared to others. My advice would be to definitely take it slow, take small bites, and pause after you swallow. I think probably the best things you could “cheat” with would be like creamed soups and thinned out Greek yogurt. Just my opinion. -
Had surgery July 10th. Am eating puréed foods. Getting sick of tuna and canned chicken. Eat yogurt cottage cheese and eggs. Really bored.

Stage 3/week 3 post op diet
Yourgirlnina replied to soccrmom23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My puréed menu basically consisted of tuna pouches, canned chicken, I used Greek yogurt instead of mayo to make chicken/tuna salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, baked sweet potato with a scoop of flavor free protein powder, fat free pudding with scoop of protein powder, sugar free Italian ice & popsicles, omelet with cheese, imitation crab (not high in protein but needed a change of flavors), baked fish.....and tons of protein drinks. Favorite was blending 4oz of almond milk, with 3-4 frozen strawberries, 1/2 frozen banana and scoop of vanilla flavor protein. -

You are a freaking wealth of knowledge!! Im so very appreciated for your in depth explanation. I have to know everything and Im a total research nerd 🤓 cant believe your previous ESG was a complete failure. Not on your part of course. Not even a sign of surgery or stitches? I would want a refund! Thats awesome they took off the 500. Definitely honest. So you didn’t have surgery until way late. Did you really not eat or drink any water since the night before at 10pm? Im worried about traveling and not being able to even have a drink before surgery. I would get sick and dehydrated. So I was planning on coming in the day before and having surgery first thing in the morning. But like you said you just want to get it over with. Which is how I’m feeling now. So let me know how you handled that. Were you hungry after surgery? When did the desire to eat start to come back. Im also worried about getting hypoglycemia from not eating or drinking. Maybe the body just handles that after? But I can’t fast with out getting shakey and super grumpy. So you did 5 days of pre op diet plus an additional 3 days of yogurt and water? How was that? Not sure If I will handle that very good. How has their service been post op? Did you get good nutritional and supplement advice. She sent me a paper buts it’s not in depth and very vague. Are you taking vitamins if so what kind and how is that going? Sorry for all the questions! What food should I have when I get home? -

Good Morning All! Congratulations and good luck to everyone that's on/heading to the Loser's Bench this week! Day 2 of pre-op diet today. I'm full liquids, so that's 5 protein shakes, 50 calories of clear liquid, 1 cup of strained soup/yogurt/pudding. I'm very tired and have a headache. I'm hoping the fog clears soon. -
I liked Premiere Protein shakes the best also. I added about 1/3 skim milk because they were so syrupy sweet. Costco prices were more affordable than Target. I think it's important to know what shakes you can stand to drink ahead of time. My pre-op diet was 10 days of sugar free jello, broth, shakes, sugar free popsicles, and other clear liquids. I figured I can do just about anything for 10 days. Then after surgery for 2 weeks, it was more protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, runny Cream of Wheat, Greek yogurt, and Cream of Tomato soup. It's kind of comical how quickly you fill up after surgery. 2 tablespoons of soup and I'd be full. I didn't like Cream of Wheat prior to surgery, but I became so bored with what few options I had, I expanded. Good luck!

I am also 5 days post op feeling alot better. Still sore but not alls much. I tried yogurt but but did sit well. But having 2 premier protein shakes, drinking water and poweraid, then have a bit of soup for lunch and dinner. Tried vitamins this morning and they made me sick so going to try different one tomorrow. Also went to a short outing to the store sitting and driving is a bit hard because is so sore in the incision. Good luck everyone and keep the great work. Any advice for vitamins, food choices etc. I'll take.it. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
