  1. How did your surgery and recovery go. I'm going to Dr. Alvarez on 10/25. So nervous!
  2. I HATE SCALES! So I've been exercising for 5 weeks without fail. Sometimes walking 5 miles a day, other times riding my bike for 10 miles. Each day I strip down, tip-toe my way onto that scale waiting for my prize. URGH!!!! I gained? So the Dr. and everyother human being has reminded me that muscle weighs more than fat...How much more? Jeeze, I must be solid muscle by now and the fat should be dripping off me. Patience, patience... I'M NOT Patient! Ok, so tomorrow when I get on that scale it better throw me a bone or I'll throw it out the window. Ollie- P.S. Sorry to rant but somedays you just have to!
  3. Windus are you menopausal? Apparently approx 10% of people get a recurrence of acne or pimples when they are going through the menopause.
  4. Hi everyone.. I have been banded for 10 months I am proud to say I have lost 42 pounds. (YAY!!!) I have went from a size 18 to a size 10. I love my band...I never thought I would make it.. I thought I would fail with the band like I did with so many weight loss plans. I had a slow start with my band but realized I needed to drink more protein thats when I started to see a difference. I hope everyone else is having success with their band..

    Weight loss

We were warned in our pre-op class that gaining 10 pounds in the hospital was average. I only gained 6 pounds, but it did take a week to lose that.

    Have you ever???

Looked in the mirror at yourself and wanted to crawl up and just die? I have my TOM for the first time since October (I have polycystic ovarian disease.. how joyful) and I am also at my heaviest I have ever been. The only thing I can say that is positive about myself is "well at least I will look great (if I was pregnant!") My stomach is so huge. I literally look like I AM 6 months. I am so bloated and fat and just uggghhhhh shoot me please! None of my clothes look right.. and those are my FAT clothes.. I am leaving for a business trip tomorrow. There are mirrors everywhere in that damn office and hotel (I was there in Jan) and I just cant stand to even look at myself. 3/19 feel so far away ....

    3rd FIll and mixed emotions

Hey there - I just got my 2nd fill yesterday and I totally feel what you are going through. I'm down about 40 pounds and I had my surgery on 3/2. I lost around 30 pounds the first month and then 10 pounds last month. I like you have goals that I set for myself but you just gotta keep doing it! Think about it.. you are losing on average of 10 pounds a month. If you do that for 10 months you are down 100 pounds!!! That's what I keep telling myself. I've had a few weeks where I was between 300-304lbs.. just how it is. You will get a big jump when you get that fill. Just keep it going! Good luck to you.
  11. P.S. I lost about 10# on pre op diet and 17 post op. I wish it was more. I've lost 38# total since first of year which I'm proud of...but feel this fat should be melting away. Plus....I'm hungry more than I expected. Full on Belly growling hunger. Ok. My whining us done. =-)
  12. Hi there. I'm exactly 5 weeks post-op today yaaay! I had a very difficult first 2-3 weeks healing process but at 4 weeks I started to feel much better and now I feel pretty good. Im 5'2" and started my journey at 248 lbs on April 1st. I lost 10 lbs during the pre-op diet period and I was sleeved on May 1st. By June 1st I had lost 11 more lbs. I have lost a total of 21 lbs in two months. I can't say I'm not disappointed especially reading how so many people are losing so so so much faster :-( I try to remain positive and keep in mind that I'm losing and not gaining! Unfortunately Ive become hungry..not head hunger which I was prepared for tnx to this forum..but real hunger! I can eat quite a lot..a lot more than I expected or wanted in fact =-O I haven't tried to push the limit and get as full as I can. I follow the protein first, no water 15 mins before and 30 mins after rules. I'm still figuring it out i guess. I'm going to see my surgeon and have my follow up tomorrow and with my nutritionist on Thursday. Hopefully they will shed some light and help me get on a faster roll :-) tnx to everyone who has given advice and good luck to all of us!

    Am I Eating Too Much?

I don't know what the dr. told you but since I haven't had a fill yet, I was told 1/4 cup to 1 cup per meal.. Meals are 3 times a day, with two Protein shakes. I've been having 1/2 cup per meal, Breakfast is just a scrambled egg.. I try and having something every two hours, so I start the day with decaf tea, then at 10 I have breakfast, 12 Protein shake, then 2 lunch, 4 protein shake and 6 dinner.. All the rest of the times I drink keeping in mind the 30/30 rule.. It's worked for me.. I always try and do 1/4 cup protein with 1/4 cup veggies per meal except breakfast..

    11 Days Post Op plateau

I've stayed at 175lbs (down from 192) for over 2 weeks now... It is frustrating, but I have googled and found a lot of people have stalls in the first few weeks as your body is adjusting. I will say - this is why I had the surgery. Earlier in the year - I dieted and got down to 178 and stalled for 10 days or so and finally gave up. So that keeps creeping in the back of my mind. I am trying to stay positive though.

    1 week post op

I was sleeved 4/13 and had my post op appointment today. I lost 10 pounds on pre op liquids and 10 pounds on liquids post op. Starting purée/ soft diet for next 2 weeks. Have bought some of the bariatric pastas and add salmon or tuna for extra protein. Had some pretty wicked spasms initially when I drank too fast but they seem to have abated. Still a little swollen in my upper mid section as well but as this is where the incisions are I think it’s normal.

    I'm new! :)

Already posted this in the pre op category, but I think it belongs here more! I'm Nicole, I'm 19, and I'm waiting on approval for my RNY! You are probably thinking, “Wow, she’s only 19, why they heck is she getting a Gastric Bypass surgery so young?" so I just wanted to make this post to kind of give you guys an idea of why I am getting the surgery, why I think it’s the best choice for me, and what has been happening lately! So, originally I opted for the Sleeve Gastrectomy, because I liked the fact that they didn’t mess around with your intestines and all that jazz like they do with the bypass, so I went to my surgeon, and I did all of my pre-op stuff, like my nutritionist visits and psychiatrist visits, and it turns out I was diagnosed with binge-eating disorder, so I had to do a month of group therapy before she would clear me for surgery. You have to make sure you are mentally prepared before you put your body through anything, which I get. I started this whole process the first of December. After all of my tests and appointments and stuff got finished, and I had lost enough pre-op weight, they sent away to the insurance company at the beginning of May. I waited and waited until just this week when my mom was finally like we should call and see what’s up. So she called the insurance company, and it turns out that my insurance doesn’t cover sleeves, but I was a clear candidate for bariatric surgery so I would have to re-submit for the bypass or the lap-band, So I made an appointment with my surgeon and we decided to go ahead and switch to the Roux en Y. So now I have to wait for this approval and to schedule a surgery date! As for my age, and having surgery, I have a lot of medical problems that no 19 year old should ever have to deal with. I take 7 pills in the morning and 4 at night. I have high blood pressure that I am on two different types of medication for, just to maintain it, I have asthma, I have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, which causes me not to ovulate, and my OB-GYN said I may never be able to have children. I’ve been medicated for it in the past, but bariatric surgery has been proven to take this away in most cases. Also, when I was 18, i suffered from kidney failure and was in the hospital for almost a week. It just sucks to know that your body is so unhealthy that your organs are beginning to shut down. At this point, I know if I don’t make a change I will just end up getting worse and worse. I’m going to have to work my ass off every day, and my new stomach pouch is only going to be a tool to help me get to where I need to be, not an easy way out, and everyone who thinks that is horribly wrong. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it. Peace & Love
  17. How did I only lose 4lbs in 10 days.. On liquids??? That's so frustrating. I feel like I'm going to go to my preop appt tomorrow and he's not going to believe me that I've stuck to it.. For the most part.
  18. Hi all. I was going crazy yesterday (crawling up the walls), had quite a hectic day with being out all afternoon till evening. i was in the pizzastore with my kids and they ate spinach and pizza. i ate a diet vegetable Soup. that was at around 6pm. Up untill 6pm. I ate a salad and 2 Protein shakes. But the problem was that I ate some of the spinach, which I'm sure had some fat in it(restaurants make spinach always delicious, must have all kinds of creams and stuff in there). So therefore I didnt let myself eat anymore proteinshakes for that day, being that I "cheated" with some spinach. I didnt want to eat extra calories. So I guess in the eve I felt that I didnt eat those shakes, I was hungry. So today I'm gonna try to just stick to what I'm supposed to do, just the shakes. and some veggies. You know, 2 cups of veggies a day is NOTHING. Its so little. I feel that a person needs to chew something, thats why we have teath. I guess I just have to stay strong and do what I do. Its soon over, another 10 days(I'm on day 4 of liquid). So as of now, 12:25pm I had a coffee and 1 horrible chocolate Protein shake. Wish me luck with the rest of my day. Maybe one of you could help me make a phoodplan exactly what I should eat when. Maybe if I stick to a mealplan with proper eating times I will have it easier. Thanx you all. It helps that I have this Site to go to and talk tpo all of you who are going through the same. I wish you all lots of luck, and a very easy time with no temtations.

Small action that changes your life

Hi. I too wanted the band at first then I like you leaned of the "sleeve". I like the fact that there was good weight loss, no nutrition problems to speak of and little if any side effects. I was sold. However I had been told that my health insurance may not pay for the surgery. I was bummed out to say the least. But my wonderful doctor (Neff) submitted all my paper work from the V.A. (I am X Navy) and low and behold they approved me for the VSG on the first try. One month later I had my surgery. My surgaversity date is 10-27-09. I am considered a "light weight" as my weight and BMI were borderline for qualification. However I had so many co-morbidities that I qualified! That was seven moths ago. I am very glad I did this. the time will go bay quickly. Just keep researching and putting into practice all you can learn so that when the BIG day arrives you will be an expert on it.
  20. Climb a flight of stairs and not have to hide being winded at the top. Paint my toenails/tie my shoes. Try on clothes/shoes without breaking into a sweat 10 minutes in. Go to a mall and buy clothes from a store with no plus size section. Hike the Grand Canyon. Go out to a fancy restaurant and actually feel like I deserve to be there just as much as the skinny people. Fit into an airplane seat again. Comfortably. That's the beginning of my list!! ????
  21. The same thing happened to me. I lost 85 pounds with the band and has managed to keep it off. I had my sleeve 10 months ago and have lost no weight. I have gained no pounds so that is good. I think I have some restriction now so I am trying to get all my protein and water in now. I have lost 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I have only felt the restriction about 4 weeks, I am trying to work harder at my workout now so we will see
  22. I read this forum daily and nothing scares me more than being sick from eating something that is wrong for me!! I have not thrown up from overeating or eating too fast because I am aware this could happen, so I take every measure to make sure that doesn't happen!! I also don't eat things that I think will make me sick! I will be 10 weeks out on Monday and I have not had any sweets for fear of them making me sick. I have read horror stories of people being sick from them. I have not had Pasta, rice, bread or any "bad carb" since before my surgery. I also have not tried any fried foods as some get very sick from it!! Now, I could very easily be one of the lucky ones that don't get sick, but I really don't want to take that chance. So, this is what keeps me real! I only put Protein and a few fruits and veggies in my new tummy at this time! Kelly
  23. Jeni, I was a size 10 in shoes before surgery and yesterday, I was able to buy a size 8. I had read on here so often about people losing shoe sizes as part of their weight loss, and I was hopeful. But then it didn't happen, and I was thinking it wasn't going to, which is exactly when it happened. LOL

    Dr. Trace Curry-Cincinnati, Ohio

It's crazy right?! I'm so excited! But I definitely feel the butterflies. I get off of work tonight at 11pm and off to Cincinnati at 4:30am. Phew! My surgery got moved up a half hour. The instructions I have say to be there 2 hours early. So I probably won't see you before my surgery since mine is most likely at 10, arrival time is 8am. We weren't in the same nutrition class, mine was in the beginning of May. And you say where I was when I took the class. Haha. Good luck tomorrow and please let me know how tomorrow goes as soon as you feel up to it! Still can't get over that we will be getting sleeved just an hour apart by the same surgeon. You will probably see my dad, mom, bf and best friend. My dad is a big guy (foot ball player build) with a beard, my mom is average and has short hair and then my bf is average along with my best friend. Can't miss the bunch! Lol my profile picture is me, so if you see me please say hi!

    Dr. Trace Curry-Cincinnati, Ohio

Well, I guess I wasn't dehydrated, I just couldn't pee lol. So I'm stuck with a catheter until Monday...yay lol. I've noticed any stomach pain comes with some gurgling and gas. I only take one small sip then wait about 10 seconds and repeat. I'm tolerating most everything I've ingested. TMI but I got the worse yeast infection Tuesday night. Never had one before but it is worse than the incision or stomach pains. And thank you for the compliment, you are so sweet! You looked great for just having a major operation! Lol. I woke up with quite a bit of nausea. But after all that was taken care of, I was fine. Do you feel much restriction? The only time I know I drank too much or too fast is that my stomach makes a gurgling noise. It's hard to realize that I actually have 85% less of my stomach when only consuming liquids lol. And by any chance do you know what size of boogie Dr. Curry uses? You know I would love to have your email or phone number so we can communicate a little better
