  1. The revision that I went though for my RNY was called an overstitch (it is new). What they did was go thought 3 little lap incisions in my stomach and 3 tubes down my throat. Then went in and they over stitched the opening to my stoma. This is to reduced that size of the stoma (from 3cm to .8cm). The recovery is the same as the rny and you are put back on the same diet as you had when you first had your RNY.
  2. Hi I am new here too. You just never know what you will find on google. LOL I had my surgery in July of 2010. I had some complications in the begining, Due to gout and blood clots. the recovery from blood clots was 6 months, so that was the time I should have been working my new tool, but couldnt. I lost 89lbs and stopped. Then all of a sudden I started gaining weight again. So after talking to my surgeon we elelcted to revise my RNY. So on the 22 of June I had my revision. So far so good. But of course I am still on Clear liquids. I go for my two week follow up on the 5th. I wish you luck on what ever you choose to do .
  3. Any one experience pain in esophagus after band to sleeve revision? I thought it was acid reflux, but now I'm not sure. (11 days post op) Also having pain chest in left side at times? Any suggestions?
  4. Okay I had to get my port revised on Monday and my doc said he put 5cc's in there (have 11cc band), on Monday I didn't eat had liquids on Tuesday I ate more than I thought I should have, but from Wednesday and like right now, I don't have an appetite and I notice I go a long time without eating so I try to eat a cheese stick or apple sauce if i'm not all that hungry but I know I have to eat. My QUESTION ISSSS....do sometimes your fill take a long time to set in? I was just wondering:redface:
  5. Hey! So can anyone who experienced dumping with a sleeve and revised to bypass and also experienced dumping with that tell me if it felt different? I’m currently sleeved and just found out the IBS I was diagnosed with after my surgery isn’t IBS after all and it’s actually dumping syndrome! I didn’t think sleevers dump so I was shocked but it totally makes sense now... anyway due to my other issue with GERD, I may need revision surgery.... sooo I’m curious, I hear a lot about bypass and dumping and know that it’s personal and not all patients dump and if they do it may be different triggers for everyone but if you experienced dumping while sleeved then after bypass, is it the same? Was it worse?
  6. Hello, i am new to the site and really looking for someone that has had a leak and port revision. I don't feel like it is working and I am so frustrated. Please someone to talk to that has experienced please step forward.

    1-2 lbs consistently?

Me too. Up down plateau! Went to the surgeon and she said i was 3 lbs down from last month. I told her I get frustrated when I see everyone passing me by at double or more, and she said long after they stop losing ill still be doing my 1 lb a week!! I also think being a band revision has something to do with my amt of weight loss. I didn't suddenly go from eating 4 cups of food per meal to 1/2 a cup, so in essence by 6 mos honeymoon was up years ago. oh well her goes another pound!
  9. I was revised from Band to Bypass. Something to think about, if you've got GERD or other acid issues... the Sleeve is *NOT* going to be the option you want to go with.
  10. Brenda, how are you feeling now? Are you starting to get your strength back a little bit? Hope the pain and sinus drainage is letting up. Did you stay overnight at the hospital w/this revision surgery? Take care.

    My port is flipped already!!

Both of my port revisions were paid for by insurance....they were "medically necessary"

    Too Tight or Just Right

You know my 1st choice was not the lapband--it was the "sleeve." But my friend and this website changed my mind because the sleeve was relatively new and not a lot of data on it. Well, this website has a forum on "lapband to sleeve revision" which I have been reading. I know its costly but maybe insurance might cover it. Anyway, read that forum to get an idea on why those banders changed their thinking on the band and went with the sleeve. It mostly has to do with food getting stuck and not having the quality of life they desire. Its just a thought--an alternative.
  13. I had the Sleeve done in 2013 I lost 90 pounds now almost gained it all back. I’m going back to my surgeon to see if I have any options. I feel as if my stomach stretched out. I’m also suffering from GERD. I have Aetna PPO II plan does anyone know the process they put you through for a revision approval?

    revised DS ?

i know people who've had revisions if they've lost too much. If you don't lose enough some have had their sleeves re-trimmed.

    over sixty seven

I have not seen a real difference in my diabetic medicine but to date I have not really lost much. Immediately after surgery I had a very stable sugar at 115 or so and as I started to eat more ( types ) of food I saw it go up slightly, but maintain my pills the same. I go for my first fill on Thursday 3/6 and am excited, although I have had only one episode of "hunger" to date since 1/31. Did receive notice that my doctor and the center I go to will not take Medicare Patients unless on a cash basis after 4/1/08. So now I will have to decide what to do about the remainder of fills. All in all I am recovering nicely from my lapband, pacemaker revision and too long on taking it easy. Thanks for you caring and take care of yourself!

    Financing In Mexico

I have been dealing with Alma too. I am thinking maybe sometime in March. I am ready to do it today. I will figure out what day sometime this week. I just pray my revision Is an easy one.
  17. Wow, I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. How long have you had your band? How many times did it slip? What will you revise to? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm genuinely interested. We never know when going into this, what may happen down the road.
  18. I'm going through the process of having a revision surgery. I lost 20 pounds with the lapband but I had complications. My surgeon told me that he can not perform the revision if my BMI was lower than 35. Long story short, I had to gained all my weight back and start from 0 in order to qualify for a revision surgery. I'm at 35.5 BMI right now and I have several health problems. My insurance and surgeon require documented lap-band complications and compliance with follow-up Lapband appointments (for the Lapband removal part), at least 35 BMI and 1 comorbidity, 6 months diet, pschy evaluation, documented active methods of weight loss (gym memberships, etc), 1 surgeon visit and 1 NUT visit. I'm submitting to insurance this week. I'm going to a center of excellence so their requirements are super strict. Every surgeon is different and I hope you can find one that help you through this process, good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I'm looking at the vitamins online and I was wondering if those of you that either originally had the bypass, or those who revised to it, can tell me which of these looks better? I know vitamin needs for bypass are different than the sleeve. Thanks!! https://www.bariatricadvantage.com/item/ultra-multivitamin https://www.barilife.com/product/just-one-chewable-once-daily-bariatric-multivitamin-iron/ PS - I will be adding additional biotin to whatever vitamins I end up with. like I do now. Just throwing that out there because neither of these provide the amount my surgeon recommends.

Trying to get out of my head....

It’s like we share a brain, I swear. I went over 600 calories yesterday and the mental beat down I gave myself was horrible. Even though I burned 400 calories with exercise that same day. 🤦‍♀️ I had the sleeve first in 2017 and truthfully should have been diagnosed with some sort of restrictive eating disorder. I’m trying to be better about it this time with my revision but old habits have emerged. My nutritionist says calories for the day are not important, that I need to only stay around 60g protein, under 35 carb, and under 30 fat amounts. I am trying to get on board with her way of thinking. I personally benefit from a therapist because my issue is with control because of trauma background. Not a Bariatric therapist, just A therapist. Because it’s not about the food. It’s about my control and fear issues. I am practicing intuitive eating, but I don’t know if it would help you since I think you’ve said you feel hunger quite often. I don’t, so eating when I feel hungry has helped me since my body doesn’t usually talk to me unless it needs something 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve also spoke with my team’s psychologist a few times. If your team has one that could work. Wish I could be more help. But I’m afraid all I’ve offered is a “you are NOT alone” vibe.

    Got Me Thinking!!

It also means that the Dr may be quite happy to revise from a laparoscopic procedure to an open procedure if they discover that your liver is in fact too big. You on the other hand may not be so happy when you wake up and discover that you have a much bigger scar than you anticipated and probably a lot more postop pain and a more difficult recovery.

    50&...

Well, yesterday I turned 50& today I started the pre op diet. My surgery date is 10/24 and I must say that i'm optimistic. I'm a revision patient, originally fitted with an unsuccessful Lap band. The band resulted in four additional corrective surgeries. I ended up in the ER where the band had to be removed. My ER surgeon is now my bariactric Dr & one of the best in this field. Lucky me!! I'm optimistic because this time I have a great Dr and i'm much wiser. I've scheduled counseling to deal with all of my "stuff", I plan to start learning yoga, and finally, I'm working on a nutrition overhual. I'm going to attack obesity from all levels. If anyone can lend insight to the counseling, yoga, & nutrition please chime in because i'm open to receive!
  24. I have been banded for over 3 years. The first year I lost from 350 to 230. Then I started having difficulties. Had a port replacement, couldn't get to a proper level for weight loss. Got pregnant, had a complete unfill due to hyperemesis, gained a boatload of weight and found out I have esoph. spasms, dialation and scar tissue choking my tubing which means no fill in, no fill out. I am now actively seeking approval for a DS/BPD. This is a Duodenal Switch. Sue, also on this board is also getting a revision to DS. In no means was this MY fault nor could I not "cut it" with the band. Stuff happens. DS is different than the RNY, as there is no pouch, no dumping, very slight chance of regain, and it has the best rate of success for long term weight loss. It will require extensive supplementation. I always thought I had the superior surgery, the "thinking persons surgery", and apparantly these people are thinking like I use to. Now I am eating some of my own words. My point is this, everyone is different. Each surgery is awesome in its own way. What would you do if your body started rejecting your band? Gain back the weight and say "oh, well?" Circumstances do change, and I had to change with them. And to tell the truth, I'm really tired of feeling filled to the gills and my stomach still growling. I have friends who have had surgery 2 years later than me and are at goal while I am still groveling along. After 3 years, I'm tired of fighting. In order to lose, I have to starve. In order to live comfortably, I gain. And now if doesn't even matter because the fill that is in there will stay in there until I have surgery to remove it.
  25. Hi all, I need some help. Had the gastric sleeve 4 years ago last week and am regaining some of my weight back. I originally lost right at 100 pounds.. kept it that way for a few years and the last year and a half I have gained back about 35. In august I had a hysterectomy due to tumors but kept my ovaries. I went to the dr worried about the gain and she wanted to do an upper GI. Had that done this morning and Radiologist stated that I had a hiatal hernia and that is what is causing the weigh gain and the gerd. My dr has said we would look into a revision depending on what they found today. Has anyone else experienced this and if so and you went with the bypass how much weight did you lose? I don't over eat, I work out and am pretty good at sticking to what I know I can and can't eat. HW-305 Lowest-197 Currently-230
