Diane---my life lately seems to go from one saga to the next---so it is a joke! I can barely string 2 words together let alone write a book that anyone would want to read!!! As for the hiccups....if I pay VERY close attention, my nose will get sniffly, and then if I take another bite or 2, I hiccup, if I don't stop---it is a PB waiting to happen! So it is a stop signal for me too. I eat similar amounts to what Mandy was saying. I can eat like half a sandwich or a taco....something in that range. I cannot eat much pasta---it fills me up VERY fast---1/4 to 1/2 cup full and I am done! Kids meals are ideal at fast food, I find myself ordering a lot of things on the sides menus...ala carte. Or Rick and I will order and appetizer, and then share a main course. People worry a lot about eating out, and it has never been an issue with me! hair loss for me started about 4 months out and lasted until close to a year, and was severe!!! It was scary! It has however since began growing back, it is not as long as the rest of my hair, I am hoping soon to meet somewhere in the middle!! I am not brave enough to cut it off short like Mandy did!! I tried all the bioten, and nioxin shampoos, and a shampoo from the beauty supply called Folicure---nothing made a difference. Finally I decided my Pantene made what hair I had left feel the best, and thought maybe stressing over it was making it worse. I have lost all my hair before with chemo---so I thought maybe that made me predisposed to losing it. When I lost it with chemo, it was straight and blonde when I lost it, when it grew back in it was darker and curly. This time around what is growing back in appears to be the same hair color and texture as before. I kept my Protein up, and made sure to change up and eat good fats, nothing seemed to make a difference. BUT it is temporary, and will grow back. Mandy is right though watch your drains, and also watch the beater bar on your vaccuum, I almost burned ours up it clogged up with long hair!! My port is up pretty high, and is a low profile -- it has never bothered me much during exercise. I have to be careful when I reach over the tailgate of our truck, it hits me everytime! And while it might be TMI, sometimes it is uncomfortable during sex! So we move! But muscle movement has never made it hurt at all, just rubbing against it, or smacking it ---like when I am hauling wood, or doing some other stupid thing---the latest, loading a cow into the chute, I dropped the branding bar into it---I was worried I really hurt it then--- I bruised and everything!!! But it is all good now! Think it means I should not brand any more cows---don't you think??? Pat hope today took you forward---sometimes the 3rd day is a hard one.. check in when you can!!! Hugs to all my girls!! Kat

well, have not done much of anything today. Everyone is gone except for me and ds so ... I did 1 load of laundry, made some turkey meatballs (they are still in the oven) and a crock pot of black bean/sausage soup. I, of course, am doing the shake diet for the rest of the week to drop the 4lbs I gained over the weekend with tom and my deep depression. I was not good. But , since my eating habits have changed I realize my skinny dd is a junk food junkie! So, the meatballs are for her for something she can have high protein, even if she puts them on a roll with some low fat cheese, better than what she normally does. As for the soup, mom loves it so I'll be lucky if there is any left, but it is very healthy and high protein. I usually eat a small salad with tuna when I do this so my soup would be good, entered it on the calorie site and it was 350 ish cals and 24g protein so that is a good dinner. today i made my shake with some miralax in it, i hope it works but not too good. LOL Usually when I do shakes I have issues so I don't want to have one this time. tmi... sorry well i'm off to shower, it is so cold here, hopefully the oven will help warm the house up. -

Happy New Years Eve Violets! I'm sick, sick, sick today. Woke up nauseated and on the verge of getting sick, diarrhea (TMI i know!), and I haven't been able to eat or drink anything today. I just wanted to tell everyone Happy New Year! Hopefully I'm not sick tomorrow on the first day of 2008! That just won't be a good sign for me LOL -

My DH hung a lip, but he is working and I am not sitting here and not doing anything! he will just have to get glad in the same pants he got mad in. For those who can't have a BM...I found something that works (for me anyway). Drink some crystal light then about 30 minutes later drink some slimfast. That stuff does not mix and within 30 minutes it will be bathroom time....and I mean make sure you are near one! OK, TMI i know...:rolleyes Terri-I nearly pee pee'd on myself with the WWJD comment. Sad part, is I knew where you going with that before you actually said it...LOL Everyone have a spectacular evening! -

I'm in Maryland... no Fudruckers here, but I think there are some nearby in Virginia. Personally, I'm glad they're waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over there! MEW -- what is your date? I'm May 29. 31 days to go. I've started the pre-op diet and am doing really well following it (ok, slight snafu last night but NOTHING, NOTHING like what it would've, could've been if I'd not been working so hard on this!). I'm drinking an Atkins shake for breakfast, eating something lc/sensible for lunch (usually chicken or tuna, today I splurged & had a left-over Nutrisystem meal that fit into the nutritional guidelines of my nutritionist), then I "test-drive" one of the protein pack items I ordered for a mid-afternoon snack (the part of the day where I usually cave in on all previous diets) (yesterday I mixed a pack of unflavored unjury protein powder into 60-cal pudding... mmmmmmm; today I made a low-carb chai tea latte with 8 oz of micellar(sp?) milk, you get the picture), then another Atkins shake for dinner, a sugar free popsicle for dessert (reward!), and at least 64 oz of h20 a day. Phew! Hope that's not TMI! LOL! I'm being so strict because I meet w/my surgeon in 1.5 weeks and I want to be DOWN in weight... I was 317 when I last saw him in Feb and I'd love to be down at least 10... then I'll have one week where I *could* (the old me definitely WOULD) look at it as a "anything goes" or a "farewell to food" tour week, but am DETERMINED to keep to this lc plan... then it's 2 weeks of liquids leading up to surgery day. My private dream goal is to be at least 299 (295 would be even better) on surgery day. But I realize that may be a bit overly ambitious. But a girl can dream, right?? Any amount LOWER will be amazing! Wow, I sure am going on and on... what's up with that? I guess it's just that I'm excited and you guys are the only ones I can really go on & on about it with... I know you understand & have been where I am... people in RL often don't get it, ya know? Well, the weekend is almost here and I must get going... have a great weekend, everyone!!! -

You will get there TracyK - fiber sure worked for me, I felt so much better today... I know TMI but what can you do. I hope everyone has a great day, going to get my pool cleaned from all the leaves this am then off to work at the pizza shop... of course it got hot and humid here again today, just in time for me to work in 100 degree place. -

Alrighty then. DH gained a pound this week so there must be something in the water. HOWEVER I did have a couple of NSVs today. Last year at Gospel Sunday I was wearing a man's size XXL denim choir shirt. Today I'm wearing a man's L and I'm just shy of being able to button it around my belly. Next year my goal is to be in a woman's Medium! Yesterday I bought new underwear. I asked my DH if he knew what an optimist was. I said.. "it's somebody who buys one package of size 8 and one package of size 7 underwear". This morning I thought I'd just try the size 7 on and IT FIT!! Now the last NSV has a parental warning attached to it. When I stood in front of the full length mirror this morning before stepping into the shower, I saw something I have not seen in years and years. I looked down and saw my hoo haaa!! It's been covered up by a big apron of fat for a long time and today it was just peeking out! Ok, I know that's TMI, but it WAS a NSV for sure!! -

Tracy... that's exactly what it is... "wonderment at early risers"! & here's your cheering for today: "Go Tracy! Go Tracy! You can do it! You can do it! Hello 230s! No Count Chocula! Yay Tracy!" Terry... I don't know why I write that... "I'm going now..." "I'm back!"... like anyone is keeping track! ha ha ha! Jenn... Well, after much huffing & puffing (it never used to be so difficult) (sorry if TMI!!!) I can cross THAT off my list for today. Phew! Good luck! I'm in Maryland... will plane, train, or auto anywhere... any time (pretty much)... just give me some time to make arrangements & save up some dough! Vegas? A spa (I love Ariz for spas!)? A cruise? Just daydreaming about a trip is nice! -

Good Thursday Morn-- whoops! AFTERNOON, Violets~~ Wow... time flies! Yikes! Where is today going? Teach -- glad to "hear" from you & so glad that dh is doing well. Enjoy Canada! Pam -- Yay, a skinny day! Haven't had one here lately, but I'm hoping I'll know it when it does arrive! Brenners -- wow, what a start to banded life! Glad to see that you're still happy w/your decision & are ok now! Laura -- that cake combo sounds yum! mmmmmmmmmmmmm Househuntress -- What a fantastic idea!! Very creative!! Jennifur & others -- re: constipation issues (which I've been having a bit, too, w/this liquid diet... really, every few days or so I wonder where I got enough "material" to create a poop... all I'm doing is DRINKING! for goodness sake... hmmmmmmm)... I picked up a 6-pack of these teeny tiny cute little cans of prune juice to have on hand if it goes on too long... haven't had to pop one open yet, but it's good to know it's there if I do... (sorry if tmi!) Ok... Day something... I'm losing count!... it's....... (counting on calendar)... 11! ~~ OMG -- so that means only 4 TO GO! When that dawned on me just now I whipped my head around to check the calendar -- ow... I think I got a crick in my neck doing that! 4 MORE DAYS! Aye Yie Yie! Doing well w/liquids now... it's just what I do now. Got my whey Gourment Smooth PB chocolate Protein powder in yesterday... I did not realize that it would be in a gargantuan tub! It barely fits in the cabinet! I also ordered the Cookies 'n Cream (w/out having tried it first, but it sounded good) & had one this a.m.... it's ok... definitely NOT as good as the PBC... but ok... nice change from choc & van plain. Have a busy tomorrow & weekend... I'm the Book Fair Chair @ the kids' ES & have to set up the BOGO Fair tomorrow... then it's game 1 of ds's soccer tourny weekend tomorrow night... whoever scheduled THAT is crazy -- making soccer parents drive on Mem'l Weekend Fri eve??? That's just cruel... Then it's soccer Sat AND Sun... + our annual neighborhood Block Party/BB! on Sun (which my family is one of the 3 "host" families that started this 3 years ago, so we HAVE to be there)... my plan for the BBQ is to make up a couple pitchers of Crystal Light and maybe freeze a couple containers of it so I can have it as a "icee" type thing (digging @ it w/a spoon may entertain me, I hope) + have lots on hand to drink... I figure if I keep mingling all around maybe no one will notice that I'm not actually eating -- they'll all think I ate earlier w/someone else! OH -- AND one of my best friends is moving back to our town (in MD) from St. Louis after 4 years away... they bought a new house in a nearby development & I'm going to go over on Sat morning and put up balloons & sprinkle confetti along the sidewalk & put a sign on the door, etc.... can you tell I'm excited she's coming back?? I guess all that is my way of explaining that I probably won't be on here much 'til Monday... and then that's the day before surgery!!! Calgon, take me away! But I procrastinate... I must go now & CLEAN MY HOUSE... I must! Everyone have a great weekend if I don't get back here 'til Monday!! And if you all are out & about having fun all weekend & don't get back on here 'til Tuesday -- PLEASE KEEP ME IN YOUR THOUGHTS ON TUESDAY MORNING (7:30am surgery time)!!!!!!!!! I need the Purple Power of ALL the Violets in Tights!! Love you guys!!! -

Velena replied to newgrandmother's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
newgrandmother, that's so funny. I saw my Dr on Monday and she said I've got slightly too much calcium in my urine (TMI sorry) and it could lead to kidney stones. She said to cut back on cashews, almonds and peanuts. Those were my go to snacks at work. So, I decided to try beef jerky instead. So far so good. I have a low fat, low sodium teriyaki flavor that I like. A little bit goes a long way, by the time I finish chewing it I'm no longer hungry. I'm almost 5 months out, yes, I'm losing some hair but not enough to make me worried. I don't dry it with a blow dryer or use any product on it (my fantastic hairdresser helped me find a style that allows me to do this), so maybe that helps? I'm taking 5000 mg of biotin twice a day and using Nutrix shampoo and conditioner. I use MFP to track my protein and calories, I usually get well over 50 g of protein a day. -

I think it is amazing the things our brains tell us concerning our weight loss. I was having one of those days myself, I have a raging cold with tons of drainage (TMI I know) so stayed home from work. Before surgery this would have been my excuse to graze all day in front of the TV, and today I didn't really want any hard protein on my sore throat, I still felt like I did sooo bad today, but just checked MFP and I'm at 690 calories, 22 fat g and 63g protein. Not as much protein as I normally get 80-90g but ok since I'm sick. So why did my mind tell me I ate too much! -
Packing for Hospital Stay
SleeveGirl-TX replied to smacbeth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very Little.... I wore the same outfit home that I wore to the hospital, just make sure it's loose and comfy. I bought clean undies and didn't put the bra on (incision is right at my bra line LOL Also: Chapstick Biotine (?) mouth spray A loose light robe (to cover the gown when walking) Slip on slippers for walking if you don't like those socks they give you, and I wore them home Your meds Toothbrush Hairbrush Book That was basically it. You aren't there long and the first day you're pretty drugged. I didn't even read much. TMI -- I had started my period that morning (and I'm told surgery brings it on for some ladies) and they gave me mesh undies and a bunch of pads. I hated the itchy mesh undies so had hubby bring several pair because I kept freaking leaking out the pads. They don't allow tampons. Stupid. -

I'm not banded yet so I don't know if you want my advice but for me - if I don't get enough Water the day before, look out! IF I can go, it takes FOREVER! Sorry, TMI!!! Anyway, check your water intake and see if that needs to be increased. Even banded you still need 64 oz a day.

To have people open doors for me. To laugh again. To wear the clothes I've bought over the years that I knew wouldn't fit but thought were cute. To not ask my fiance if he has clothes I can wear. To have the desire for sex again and not have heartburn while doing it( if tmi I'm sorry). To have the energy to play with my grand babies...

I had my surgery this afternoon. I've been in and out of sleep. The pain is very moderate. Honestly is just the gas. I've been trying to fart for a couple hours now lol tmi. The staff at my hospital are awesome. I'm not allowed to drink anything until tomorrow. Overall I feel great I hope I heal quickly. I'm so happy I did this????????????????

Thrush?!? Ughhh
thisisit replied to Jessiegurl2686's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jessica and YES, YES, I do have thrush. I am 5 weeks post op and was diagnosed at my 2 week follows-up. Excepting that, I had been very fortunate with no other complications or complaints. So, dr put me on Fluconazole. Within hours after starting that I went into a 9 day HORRIBLE time with explosive diarrhea (sorry, TMI). The drs office didn't associate my diarrhea with the fluconazole but instead blamed it on the fact that I was just starting puréed foods AND had had c-diff with a previous surgery. I was then put on a RX for Flagyl (to treat c-diff). Finally after testing clear for c-diff, I still continued taking the Flagyl and Culturelle as well as finished up the RX for thrush. Finally after 9 horrible days of the diarrhea it cleared up and I was able to go back to work last week. Then just yesterday I went back to surgeon for 5 week check up. I STILL have the thrush. So, this time they put me on the fluconazole and also a liquid oral treatment called nystatin. So took my first pill and mouth rinse last night and OMG, the horrible diarrhea is back again. I obviously now think this is from that RX. called my drs office this am and nurse told me to stop taking the rx and I'm waiting to hear further instructions from them. I want to get rid of this thrush, BUT, not with this diarrhea again. And, my initial tongue symptoms wee same as yours. I would make them check it, but, I sure hope you have better reaction to the treatment. Yuck! Good luck and let me know what you find out. cdf37 My apologies, I meant Jessie. -
Your right kermit, im in Spain now, waiting for my laundry to be washed. I am so pissed off right now because i could eat a whale too. And also one of my wounds is infected. i dont know whether to visit the doc over here, it will probably cost me a fortune. My medium sized wouond went a bit green and it now has formed a litlle pinhole and is weeping. Sorry for TMI. My dad thinks i should go the doc but he will probably give me antibiotics and then no Sangria for the rest of the week. Boo hoo. How are you getting on.

Gastric Sleeve to SADI-S
NovaLuna replied to rlmontgomery1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not sure what to say about how to get your insurance to cover a revision, but if you're having reflux problems then maybe have Bypass instead. I had the Sadi-S myself, and have lucked out that my EOE didn't cause the acid issues to get worse (I have acid issues at night due to EOE a.k.a Eosinophilic Esophagitis). If you do get the Sadi-S here's some advice... 1. don't go too long without something in your stomach even if it's applesauce or fruit, etc. because if I wait to long inbetween eating my bowels decide to empty everything in them. (TMI, but you should know so you can avoid it happening to you) 2. Always take a probiotic every day because it helps with keeping you regular 3. I don't know if it's a common thing for Sadi-S or other surgeries or if it's just me... but I haven't been able to throw up since my surgery... 3 years ago (and yes, I've been sick and dry heaved for hours, but couldn't throw up). 4. having any WLS with a malabsorption factor gives you a 3% chance of developing a wheat allergy or Celiac's (I got the wheat allergy because my luck is ****). And, 5. I don't know if it's just a DS or Sadi-S thing, but there is a chance after surgery that you will vomit old blood (if this counts as vomiting then this is the only time I've thrown up since surgery. It happened three or four times while I was in the hospital after surgery. They didn't warn me and it scared the **** out of me). Anyway, yeah... I'm happy with my surgery choice, but if I'd had another chance I think I'd have gone for the original DS since it has slightly better weight loss results. I had the normal gain back you get going into your third year and straddle between 188-193 which I've been for 9 months. Also, any time you have surgery, ANY surgery, you risk the chance of health problems popping up that you would have got a little later in life. I developed Mast Cell Activation Syndrome after my WLS and it's been a b***h to deal with. I mean, technically the doctor told me she thinks I probably already had the beginnings of it before the surgery and the surgery itself just... made it progress to a more severe case (apparently they noticed a trend in people with EOE developing MCAS so it was pretty much going to happen anyway). But still. Health issues can pop up after surgery. So just be aware of it. Hopefully everything goes well for you and sorry for the word vomit. -

Terry, You're probably wondering why I'm ignoring you. You called me Sunday and told me you were getting sick. Honey, you have no idea. I woke up at 5 a.m. on Monday morning with a stomach pain. I thought, no big deal. I'll have some diarrhea and actually not be constipated for once. Not! I spend the rest of the day until 4 p.m. sitting on the pot with my face in the garbage can doing both at once! TMI I know, but had to share. So, I had to stay home from work Tuesday as well because I was still really messed up with a fever until early that morning, and ended up having my 3 year old at home with me sick too. He fortunately didn't have the pukes and poops. Completely different for him. High fever, cough and snotty nose. Lovely. I had volunteered at the local YMCA for healthy kids day on Saturday and was around 150 children and their parents. It is not a surprise that I ended up sick I suppose. So, I'm back at work today and feeling much better. Lunch will have to wait until you return from your trip. Have a good time!!! -
Georgia - I'm so glad you received good news! I spoke with a guy in my office that does Marathons. He said the treadmills are the best on impact, but if you are training to run an actual 5K that you need to eventually start running on that type of material. Concrete is the hardest on impact, then asphalt, tracks, grass, and treadmills. I think we'll eventually take the run outside (maybe next month) when it cools off some. They have a running track at the Y and a dirt/pebble (meaning slip an bust my butt) track too. I missed running this morning myself. I want to go so bad this afternoon. I found out why the gain bothered me so much last night/yesterday. PMS. It sucks. I've had horrible cramps all day (maybe TMI?), thus I'm not running today. I'm going to run tomorrow though. I'm looking forward to Monday - Starting Week 3! Thanks everyone for your advice and support with this crazy plateau I'm on. I'm SO tight today and will be so for a few days. Maybe a loss? I think I'm going to get a slight fill next week. I thought about canceling my appointment, but think I need it. That time of month I've found makes me a little tighter. Is everyone like that?
