  1. I had my lapband removed May 3rd on a Friday and was back at work on Sunday, I'm a physician, so I went to round on my patients on Sunday. I didn't need any pain meds post discharge same day of surgery. It was light breakfast day before surgery and liquids up until 2 hrs before surgery. Had soups after I got home, rested Saturday and back to almost normal on Sunday. No issues whatsoever. I was happy to be rid of the band as the last few months were awful and it did not even slip! Surgeon required 6 weeks of healing before revision. I'm getting sleeved August 16th. Good luck![emoji169] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. The gas that causes pain after surgery is not in your intestines (where Gas-X can get to it). It is the gas they use to inflate your abdomen during surgery to give them room to work. That gas gets trapped in your tissues and muscles and has to work it's way out of your body. It tends to rise which is why the pain can be so severe in your shoulders, upper back and neck. As to the original post, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I did not experience anything similar with my revision.

    VSG surgery

I had the Lap Band in 2005. While I lost about 80% of my excess weight, my life with the band was very miserable. I had horrible reflux and later found out that I had been living with a slipped band for years. I had gastric sleeve April of last year and am very happy with my decision. No significant complications and I feel great! One thing: when I had my sleeve done, my surgeon said that the procedure took him at least an extra half hour while he sorted through the scar tissue from the band. From what I've read on this form, that is quite common when you see revision from lap band. For me, all that scar tissue and extra work to deal with it made my initial recovery a little different. I saw others talking about feeling great and being up walking right away. I felt like I had been hit by a Mac Truck! I couldn't tolerate the laps around the nurse's station and was lucky to make it about 20 feet down the hall. I stayed an extra night in the hospital and was a little more on track by day 2.
  4. I have not yet had my revision so really can’t give any advice. I am wondering though. Was all of this caused by dehydration? Were you getting all of your required fluids in? Thanks for sharing your story. Hopefully someone else will chime in and be able to answer your questions for you.
  5. So let me give you a run down of my last two weeks........ I’m definitely not looking for sympathy, I just want to know if any of you have been through this so I’m not going through it alone. I had my revision from VSG to RNY on 7/22 - Day 1 was rough but after that everything was a breeze. I had tapered myself off pain meds and felt great. Sunday morning (6 days post op) I felt pretty dizzy and light headed which I linked to dehydration so I stepped up my liquids. This lasted on and off all day. Come Monday morning and I’m starting to have some left side stomach pain and linked shoulder pain. I’m not gonna lie, the shoulder pain hurt worse than anything imaginable and I tried simethicone and nothing helped so it was not linked to gas. I called my surgeon and he suggested to come into the ER for eval. CT scan and blood work later, I was getting admitted. Let me tell you what though - I have not felt the same since they stretched me flat on the CT scan, it felt like every fiber that had started to form back together was ripped open again. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 nights for severe dehydration and to fully rule out a leak, which was definite after an Upper GI. During the first 2 days of admission my surgeon allowed me nothing by mouth and near the end of that I could just feel my stomach going crazy inside my abdomen looking for substance. When I was finally able to eat, my stomach hated me. The first thing that hit my stomach caused unbelievable cramps. A day later and I can still feel fluids hit my pouch and cramps follow. My pain in my shoulder has gone away, I’m still pretty sore in my stomach but for the life of my can’t figure out why my stomach is so mad at me for drinking. Has anyone of you experienced this? If so, PLEASE reassure me that things do get better 🙏🏻

At the time The Bank of Nova Scotia was a Sponsor, they asked me to come work for them, i started the following Monday and spent the next 18 years working for them, the best years of my life 😊😊

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Congratulations on your successful revision! I'm in the situation that you were in I had the Lap Band in 2005 and due to throwing up, it was removed several months later. In 2006 I went to Mexico and had the Gastric Sleeve. I have lost over 100 pounds and I've kept it off. My problem started almost 2 years ago. I started throwing up undigested food. I went to a US surgeon and was told I had a large hernia and it was causing a large portion of my stomach to push into my chest cavity. Long story short, the hernia was repaired and the doctor thought that would correct the reflux. Well it hasn't. After having more test ran he has determined that I now have spontaneous reflux. I'm actually dropping more weight due to the spontaneous reflux. My doctor said that usually if you have problems throwing up with the lap band, you will with the sleeve. He said my sleeve has some angulation. He has recommended the conversion to an RNY in order to sustain life. Unfortunately, my insurance is not wanting to cover. I will be eligible for Medicare in December and will limp along until then. Medicare will cover the revision. Thanks for your updates on your revision. I'm extremely nervous about having the RNY, but have no choice. BTW, you look awesome in your pictures. Keep up the great work!
  12. Yep, I understand the waiting part plus a fighting component! I am on the first day of the fifth round for this revision. I might have to go through abratration in away. The hardest part? Why do I have insurance if it doesn't pay for what is necessary? It should be "optional" for me to have a higher quality of life? I don't think so! Really Cool New "Smart" BMI Calculator

Thanks 💜 that's why i decided to try and share my experience. I don't think I've seen many people needing a revision without hoping to lose more weight. When I was looking through threads it was usually a mix of GERD/substantial regain but that could be because they are the most vocal. I can only think of 3 people needing revision while already at goal 😳

Really Cool New "Smart" BMI Calculator

Well, I think you are doing something pretty awesome. Cuz others will be able to look at what you've done and be helped by it. Cuz all the time we read here about people needing a revision but are afraid to do it for fear of losing more weight! The struggle to maintain is real! ((hugs))

    New and anxious

She had her sleeve a year and a half ago, but the acid reflux was doing terrible things to her. She had her revision last week on the 24th and has had a few complications, now she has a picque line and will have a nurse come to her house daily. Her process has actually scared me. The Dr isn't sure if she has some sort of blockage and may need another surgery. Damn Sorry to hear that about your friend. I hope she gets to feeling better real quick! And it sounds like her Dr’s all over it. 🤞 🙏

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Okay so I had heard numbers somewhat similar to this. I’ve suffered GERD from my earliest memories. I had GERD in grade school and had to sleep upright all during pregnancy. In fact, if I wasn’t careful, I’d bend over to tie my shoes and almost gag on the acid coming up (not pregnant, just on a normal day) Sleeping on 2 pillows was always a must for me because of the GERD. I’ve been on PPIs for years and years and years. If I’d bought stock in Pepcid complete, I’d be rich by now just on what I’ve spent through the years. My father also suffers GERD and actually has Barrett’s. Imagine my surprise when I was scoped and zero, nada, zilch Barrett’s (or any other kind of complication) from over 40 years GERD. Heck, I was halfway resigned to the fact that I was going to be forced to have RNY despite my wish for VGS. My surgeon told me about these same numbers and I went with sleeve because there was a 2 out of 3 chance it would get better, and the other chance I’d have to have a revision down the line. So far..... fingers crossed...... it has improved somewhat. There are times when it bothers me—usually when I’ve overeaten, or eaten AND drank red wine. Lol, I’ve only done that twice and neither time was it a good idea. Also, if I skip my PPI for more than 2 days I can feel it starting to bother me, but now that I’ve lost over 75 pounds, it’s soooooo much more manageable. I would definitely say that while VGS definitely did NOT cure my GERD, It definitely did not get worse and is better than it was. Not sure if that’s because of better diet, or losing a crap ton of weight, or the surgery. 🤷‍♀️

  24. I gained 11lbs from IVs during my revision from VSG to RNY. All of it was lost during the week following. Don't stress about it.
  25. Hello, I'm super excited to be approved for revision wls from VSG to Gastric Bypass. I'm 2 years and 1 month post op from VSG. About 1 1/2 years from surgery, I have started experiencing GERD. I did have my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as my sleeve but the stinky hernia and GERD has come back. I'm currently 24 pounds to being within a normal BMI. I was approved super quick for revision. I've tried 40 mg of ppi but my body wasn't having it to control my acid reflux. Eventually, I'm taking 2 ppi pills with some relief. Anyway, the purpose of this post is Do you think I would be up to traveling on airplane 10 days post op from revision surgery? My flight will be 8 1/2 hours. My recovery from VSG was wonderful. No pain, I had to question my surgeon if he'd performed my surgery as I was walking laps around the nurse's station and was able down all my fluids. I'm praying my recovery from revision surgery is similar to my first. Thank you
