    Gym

Walking is definitely a great way to get some cardio in, and lifting light weights at the gym can be a good way to build some strength. If you're considering adding more Gym Equipment to your routine, I would suggest talking to your doctor or a personal trainer to make sure you're using the equipment safely and effectively, especially if you're preparing for surgery. As for the drinks, they can be a good source of protein after your workout to help your muscles recover, but it's important to also make sure you're getting a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and veggies. Keep up the great work, and best of luck with your weight loss journey!
  2. That is awesome! I look at the WLS as a tool to jump start the weight loss process. The rest is maintenance. Enjoy your NSV. I'm now down from size 54" pant to 31-30" depending on the cutting and I know the feeling
  3. Don't laugh. I am 12 years out. Lost a lot, had stuff happen. Gained about 45 pounds back (out of more than 150 lost) and 3 years ago decided to lose it again..... and I did. And then some. So now at 67 years old.... I have gone from a size 28 a dozen years ago, and this week decided to go shopping again because my size 14 jeans (that I was soooooo proud of just months ago) were not staying up... and I JUST BOUGHT size 12 Jeans and slacks for work. SIZE 12. DID YOU HEAR THAT ? I keep giggling. Healthy (well mostly) Happy, Active, Working, Gardening, Chicken keeping, and a FREAKING SIZE 12. Does it work ? Does it still work ? YEP it does.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

4 years?! I could quote this word for word, accept I will add that I'm big into fitness, particularly Jujitsu at a fantastic dojo. While I too gained 20lbs over my goal weight, it almost all muscle. For sometime I traded my addition of eating for exercise. I wasn't happy. It's felt just like when I was obsessed with eating. Counting, measure, weighing, starving. I had to turn things around because I was just repeating a path of insanity. I'm at a so much happier place now! Now I push and strengthen and push by body for the challenge and increased quality of life. Not to escape my demons. Boy oh boy has this been an eye opening journey. If I had to go back in time, I'd still happily do. Sooner in fact. But would have learned to love myself FIRST. Because for me, the depression, and self-guilt didn't leave along with fat. Nor did I gain well-being from the attention. Once I began to work on my mind with the same determination that led me to work on my body, I became and am unstoppable! We've got this!

    RNY surgery question

I haven't heard that, but who knows? It might be true. I know bypassers are susceptible to vitamin deficiencies, though, because of the malabsorption. That's why it's critical for us to keep on top of our supplements - the consequences of slacking off are more severe for us than they are for sleevers. EDITED TO ADD: I'm not really sure about fasting in general, though. I know the malabsorption the first few months is super strong - you malasorb calories in addition to nutrients. Unfortunately, the malabsorption of calories seems to go away after a year or two - whereas the malabsorption of nutrients stays. I had a 20 lb regain in year 3 (which is unfortunately very common - usually 10-20 lbs), and I currently struggle to keep my weight where it is, so the part of fasting where you lose weight isn't true - or at least not for me. But maybe he meant for the first year or two? Or was referring specifically to nutrients ? Not sure.

    August surgery buddies!

Congrats!!!!! We are 4 months away to our gastricversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do any one of you ever thought that we were going to be here, some years ago? Personally this surgery was just a dream that it was out of my reach for soo long, in my country any weight loss surgery is consider cosmetic, so is not covered by the insurance; you have to have money to be able to do it, and you have to paid in dollars. I was "lucky" that last year I was debt free and my company bonuses were destined for the surgery, my boss was so amazing about it that the company lend me the money before the bonuses were given; and my amazing surgeon told me that all the doctors fee were waived (one of the perks of being in the healthcare field), just had to pay for the hospital cost. I wish someday, my country´s healthcare system considers weight loss surgery a regular procedure that can help any patient get healthy, use less meds, hospital and resources that can be used for prevention programs, reserves, etc. And that any weight loss surgery be available for anyone, no matter their income.
  7. Hi, I know this post is old, but I wanted to add (for anyone in a similar situation) that I started on Saxenda and didn't see any weight loss. I didn't gain either. However, I switched to Wegovy and have lost 30 lbs in 4 months and am continuing to lose.

    A Fib and Gastric Bypass

I know that I am late to this topic, but as a person that was newly diagnosed with AFib and has the surgery scheduled for 6/5/23, I think I understand the subject well. There is solid research coming from Australia that shows that AFib reverses or at least improves after drastic weight loss. This is what my Mayo Clinic cardiologist told me. I hesitated for years to get a gastric bypass but after learning this aspect, I scheduled my gastric bypass surgery. I talked to my gastric surgeon, he knows I have Afib and that I take medication for it and there are no issues whatsoever. I am sure he is consulting with my cardiologist. I wish you the best, this gastric bypass surgery might save us from Afib at least for some years. Let’s hope that the Aussies are 100% correct! 😀
  9. I just started on wegovy injections this past Monday. I am targeting to lose 40 pounds, I got some padding in there for summer weight vs. winter:)

    6 weeks in….

Thank you! I am already feeling so much better— this isn’t just about the weight, it had really been affecting my health and overall well being. My feet no longer hurt- losing weight and getting supportive shoes is helping the plantar fasciitis and meta-whatever it’s called. My joints no longer hurt, I can sleep more restfully and breathe better! It’s definitely been a major change already, and I am glad to be turning it around. I’m too young to feel that old!
  13. I’m 2 1/2 years out from Bypass. Highest 227, lowest 138 and I settled at 142-144. I just had a recent weight gain for the first time and saw 153. Went back to surgeon, scheduled a nutrition appointment and trying phentremine for the first time. Back at 151 and this is part of expected maintenance. I can eat/drink just about everything except for bread, only in small amounts. Working on bringing some numbers back down and I know I have all the tools to do it.
  14. Hi, I am 5 wks RNY post op. Let me start by saying I started this journey in 2009 getting a gastric band. My start weight was 275lbs, I’m 5’3. In 2014 I had a revision to a gastric sleeve because of esophageal distress. I had a hard time getting below 200LBS with both of this procedures. Once I was below 200 I hovered over 185-195. In 2019 I lost more weight and was down to 157lbs. My original goal weight was 175, hoping for 150lbs. In the fall on 2018 I stopped working due to heath issues and I didn’t apply for disability until the spring of 2019. As a result of this dramatic change I became depressed and shut in. Then the pandemic happened , I became more depressed, my weight just went through the roof. Although I still didn’t eat a lot I ate unhealthy. Durning this time you could get anything delivered to your door, I got up to 235lbs. I also began to have severe reflux. I went to see a GI doctor who ran tests and found that my reflux was very severe and my hiatal hernia was back and bigger. I had it fixed with the band surgery in 2009. Gi recommendation was to have a revision to a RNY. I had to go through the process all over again, nutrition, psychology and pre op diet. On March 7th 2023 I had my revision surgery. The surgery went well , it was a little longer due to difficulty repairing my hiatal hernia. Post op I had urine retention, I had to go home with a Foley catheter. That lasted for 3 weeks. So my last start weight was 235lbs, SW 219; now 207lbs. I am not losing any more weight for about two weeks. I am in the mushy/soft stage. I had a hard time at first getting enough fluids in and getting my protein goals. Protein was a challenge during the next stages because I couldn’t eat or drink a lot. The last week or so I had some foods not go down well, had some vomiting. Also had a problem with either dehydration or hypoglycemia in the morning if I don’t eat or drink something early; can’t wait to 10 or 11am which I am used to. Not a great feeling. Either I am not eating enough protein/food or I need to add exercise to my journey, I did join a gym. I know my weight loss will be slower than most people due to revision but I think I am in that can’t get below 200 funk. I still want to be healthy at 170lbs. The journey continues!!

    2 years Post OP

Hey. Hope you’re doing alright. I just got my revision from band to sleeve. I had the band for 13 years. Many times I lost and gained. Got super fit, got chubby, then I let it go and got fat. Lots of feeling that you’re talking about. After all these years, the best advice I’d give myself is not get back to basics and all that stuff, it’s let go of the shame. Don’t carry that dead weight of “your feelings” and you can just pick right back up. That’s my own advice. Just writing it down. Maybe it’ll resonate with you.
  16. Good afternoon love! Just wanted to reply to your comment and share a bit of my journey with u. I had a revision in December from a VBG(first weight loss surgery approved) in 2004 to a gastric bypass do to esophogus issues, heartburn and major weight gain. I lost 46lbs after revision. The vitamins I see you posted are great but expensive. I have blood check up every 3 months have been amazing and i take a Bariatric vitamin from amazon. 16.77 month. My health is fabulous. Look into amzon for vitamins love. It will really save you money and they work just as well. Please take your daily calcuim after revision and you will be just fine. Good luck and God Bless you
  17. I have the same concern. My surgery was on 2/8 and I am in my 9th week. My doctor has me at 400-600 calories, and at least 5 hours a week of exercise. I'm only losing 2 lbs a week. I'm fine with losing at a slower rate. My concern is whether I will continue to lose when my calories move up to 600-800 when I am at 6 months. But I just keep telling myself to trust in the process. I am better now than I was two months ago. I trust my doctor and nutritionist to give me the information to successfully lose this weight. My job is to keep to the plan they have given me.

    Hi, I'm new here

Hi Ashley and welcome! 👋 congrats on meeting your surgery goal weight! The psych eval was very straightforward for me. I was open and honest about why I wanted the surgery, my history of weight gain, loss and regain. Yo-yo dieting and all the self esteem issues that go along with a weight-focused society. You’ll have a pre-op diet before surgery, so it’s easiest to start making small changes now. I started swapping a protein shake for a meal once per day about a month before my pre-op diet started. I also weaned myself off of caffeine. It really helped! I also have a therapist, which I highly recommend if you can. She has helped me realize so many pitfalls of my unhealthy relationship with food. If I didn’t have her to lean on, I’m not sure I would be as successful as I am today. These are my best pieces of advice. Good luck!! Let us know when you get a surgery date set! 😊

    Internal Hernia / Bowel Obstruction

Just came to search this. I had internal hernia repair today. I think I might have caught mine before you or it was different. I was on the ER a few months back with severe abdominal pain and had pain again on Monday. Had a CT scan yesterday and the DR called last night and wanted me in for surgery today because I had a twisted bowel, no obstruction yet. The surgery was outpatient today. Definitely a scary experience. I am 18 months out from surgery. The Dr said it is not uncommon in patients who are successful with weight loss surgery and have lost a lot of weight, especially in a short amount of time.

    frustrated, stalled, and lost

If you’re not exercising, getting in 1500 calories may be too many & hinder your weight loss. I’m a non exerciser (just stretching, resistance bands & sit-ups). At an inch shorter & probably older (almost 58) I maintain consuming 1400-1500 calories which i have since discovered is pretty much what my basal metabolic rate recommends. This may be something to raise with your dietician as they know you & your needs better. I don’t enjoy exercising & also have low blood pressure (genetic - had it randomly before but all the time now. Amusingly being obese kept my BP at 120/80.) & oozing discs which is why I only do as little as I do. Most are on the floor & I exercise snack. Do 4 sessions lasting 5-10 minutes across the day. Would probably only burn 30 calories but my muscles are definitely more toned. My doctor put me on blood pressure meds to get it higher. It didn’t work for me but still may be something worth asking your doctor about even as a temporary fix. I relate to not being able to physically eat more too. When I reached my goal at 6 months I was only eating about 900 calories & less than a cup of food for a meal. I kept losing for another 6 months during which I slowly increased my snacks (to 4 & 5 a day ) & slowly was able to eat more. I truely felt I was eating all day long. I stopped losing when I was consuming about 1300 calories. My body has since settled, I eat fewer snacks but more regular sized portions hence the more calories. I also have pretty much maintained at about a kilogram above my initial 2 year stabilised weight. We all have different needs physically, psychologically, medically, etc. but do ask further questions of your doctor & dietician. One size doesn’t fit all.
  21. Hi. My name is Ashley and I am in the midst of all the pre work for getting the sleeve. I am super nervous for the diet after surgery, but also excited to have a fresh start with food (kinda). I'm with Kaiser and will be doing my surgery at their Fremont center. I just met my weight goal for surgery and had my dietitian appointment. Next up is a Psych apopintment. Any tips/tricks or helpful insight is always appreciated.

    Weight Stall

They’re are a normal & important part of your weight loss. It’s the time your body uses to take stock of the stress you’re putting it through (weight loss, reduced calories, increased activity, etc.), where you are & what your new needs are at a lower weight & resets various hormones & your metabolism to support your lower weight, etc. Best thing to do is to stick to your plan & don’t stress your body more with more changes. The stall will break when your body is ready. Some people experience longer or more frequent stalls than others. It just depends on their body & needs.
  23. Stalls are an expected & important part of your weight loss. Some people just experience fir longer periods & more regularly. They occur in reaction to the stress you’re putting your body under (weight loss, reduced calorie intake, increased activity levels, etc.). During a stall your body takes stock of your new current situation & then readjust various hormones & your metabolism to meet your new needs. Stick to your plan. Don’t stress your body more (like by going back to the liquid diet). The stall will break when your body is ready.

    Weight Stall

stalls are a normal part of weight loss. Most of us have our first one around the three week point (but it can happen at any time within the first six weeks or so). This is only your first among probably many. When you hit them, stay off the scale for a few days and make sure you're following your plan to a "T". If you do, the stall will eventually break and you'll be on your way again. Stalls typically last 1-3 weeks.

    Weight Stall

Hi Guys, Just curious on how people may have handled a weight stall? I'm five and half weeks post op, down 11kgs since surgery and i've not moved on the scales in the past week. I have gone back to work (retail) and have moved onto the minced/slow cooked foods part of my diet so i'm hoping this maybe playing a part it's just playing on my mind a bit. Has anyone got any tips to help getting refocused at all
