  1. we are/were ALMOST surgery-stat twins. i was 46 when i had my sleeve in 2018, i'm 5'2" and weighed 235 lbs 2 weeks before surgery...so a BMI of 43. Yours is 44.3, so yeah, ALMOST-twins! I got to goal around 7 months, and yes i has saggy skin. For me though, i had little underlying fat so it wasn't so much rolly-looking, but more like wrinkled-lumpy-bedsheet-looking. what fixed it? plastic surgery (i had a tummy tuck, arm lift and breast lift). my butt is pretty saggy still, and "hangs low" lol, but i can live with it. also the vertical skin lines on my neck gives away how old i am now but i can also live with it...sort of, ha! (in the link to collage below, the last two pics in the middle row are me 2 and 3 months before plastics. the last row is entirely post-plastics. i keep meaning to update this collage with more recent ones, as im 4.5+ years post-wls, but im lazy! i am still basically the same weight just not as defined anymore...i don't exercise nearly as much as i did back then.)
  2. During soft food phase (3 weeks) I had egg drop soup from a Chinese restaurant and it tasted lovely. At regular food phase (5 weeks) I ordered from same place, Beef and Broccoli. Was great first time. Second time the broccoli didn't go well. No rice of course.
  3. A couple of months if I remember correctly when I was a couple of weeks into solid foods. I waited to make sure I was tolerating food more easily. Went for Chinese with my mum & her neighbours. I had braised chicken & cashews without the cashews & of course no rice. Everything was soft & easy to chew & swallow. Had leftovers for days & days lol! Actually had my first case of the foamies with the leftovers - a slice of carrot did it & it was soft & mushy too.

Yes, I get the statements I know you starving aren't you hungry. I'm determined to make it through, this is my 3rd day of liquid I am still allowed to eat 3 to 4 ounces of protein, but that's my last results because next week it's all liquids no meat what so ever

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I felt (feel) the same way. I'm lucky in that I only have 8 days of liquid before surgery (I'm scheduled for this Friday). I've found a few things helpful in getting through this liquid diet: Stay busy with non-food things. I went to work, cleaned our bathrooms, did outside yard work, went shopping / window browsing... Make a schedule of your liquids for the day. Like 8am: coffee with protein shake, 9am flavored water, 10am sugar free jell-o, 11am broth, etc.... It helps me to have "something" to look forward to and ensure I am drinking enough. If you have a family that you typically cook for, ask for help from someone else to do the cooking, or have easy foods. My kids ate some easy convenience food this week; the less time I am in the kitchen, the better. Constantly sip on something. Chew gum if you can. I have found these to be good distractions at times. A lot of people say this is the hardest part of this whole thing. Not sure if that's true, but literally trying to avoid the kitchen and food as much as possible has helped me. I know that is not always possible for everyone, but if it is, I'd say to just avoid and know that this is NOT forever! Good luck
  6. Honey - it gets easier; you’re almost through the difficult bit! Keep bury. Have a drink of water when those phantom hunger pangs hit you. Take yourself out for a walk if you can. Keep telling yourself you got this because it’s only 2 weeks. I’ve just finished my liquid diet and I have my surgery today (it’s almost 2am here). Stay with it and stay strong with everything you have. It’s two weeks out of the rest of your life - you are on the road to living the life you have always imagined. you are a bright star 🌟 x

    7 months post op!

Hi! Your progress is wonderful. Besides a multi-vitamin patch by Patch Aid i am using their biotin plus patch. I’m just about 8 weeks out from the sleeve and my hair is getting longer and trust me I am not eating nearly enough protein. The biotin plus patch seems to be really working. Good luck with the rest of your journey,

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Guys I am on day 3 of liquid diet and I really don't want to do anything because I don't wanna be around food or by the kitchen. And I just feel like how am I gonna survive 2 weeks of this. Any advice?
  9. I used to do long distance riding and loved it. I trained many miles for Century rides and MS 150's for charity. That was in my 20's. As I got older I cut back on long exercise sessions (biking, weights and jogging). Big mistake and started gaining weight. But my Mom became ill and I began taking care of her instead of myself and didn't take the time anymore. I eventually stopped exercising altogether when I suddenly couldn't breathe, and everything became hard for me to do. I was misdiagnosed as having COPD and kind of gave up on myself at that point. It was only recently with pre op testing for Bariatric surgery that I found out I never had COPD and couldn't breathe because of a hiatal hernia. It caused 10% of my stomach to stick up through my diaphragm. Makes me mad to think about but thankful at the same time that it is now repaired, and I can breathe and exercise again. I would love to try biking too at some point. For now I walk 5-6xs a week for a little over a mile and makes me so happy. Just to be able to do it. I wouldn't worry too much about hydration. You should be fine. Just keep drinking. But not sure how long hours of exercise will affect your appetite? I have little to none now, 7 weeks out. I can only imagine I would become quite ravenous, which could defeat the whole purpose. IDK but good luck!

I had diarrhea my first week also, by week two it had calmed down. Now I'm just constipated unless I take miralax everyday. This surgery really does a number on your gut.

I am one week post op. I am totally struggling. I have diarrhea every time I eat. I talked to my dr. They called in a prescription that cost 7,000, called dificid. I have no energy at all. My regular dr won’t do anything be because he doesn’t want to go against the surgeon. Waiting to hear from my surgeon…

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Okay so weird I walk every single day and I just feel like I'm not even losing one little pound but I just I just started my liquid diet just been two days but I still have this week and next week but it's not all liquids I'm still able to include a protein as well
  13. Hi Carla - don’t know really. I was swimming for half hour each day up until three days ago as they physiologist recommended it though it’s not a must. It might be because it’s liquor. The milk diet I’ve been given does not include shakes or anything like that.

    Starting whole pills

For example, I'm the morning I'll take the omeprazole (acid reducer), Multivitamin, B12, D3, and a stool softener. That seems like a lot on my stomach in one go. Should I wait 30 minutes to eat or can I just eat right away. I am 4 weeks out tomorrow.

    Starting whole pills

not sure what exactly you're asking. I do occasionally take pills after eating - a swallow of water (enough to get a pill down) isn't going to violate the "wait (x number) of minutes after eating before drinking anything" rule. I take vitamins twice a day - first thing in the morning and late afternoon, usually. About three or four pills at a time. So yes - you can take multiple pills at one sitting.
  16. A week or so before I went to Fuddruckers. I love their ribeye steak sandwich. I would still love to eat one now once and awhile but they have closed down in our area [emoji24].
  17. I did the rounds of my favourite restaurants that week. Thai, Indian etc. On my last day I did my favourite Chinese take away, Ribs, a spring roll and beef steak in a black bean and chilli sauce with rice. Ate the entire thing and rolled away from the table.

I'm allowed to start incorporating soft foods now, a week early, yay! I've gotten the bit too full feeling twice now, it's uncomfortable until it moves down. I seem to hiccup when full sometimes so use that as a stop signal. @Synlee how are you?
  19. I'm eight years out and do 2-3 hour bike rides a few times a week when the weather cooperates. However, I started out really heavy so no way I could have ridden a bike....or exercised that long. The longest I probably exercised for the first year or so was in hour-long water fitness classes. the hydration thing isn't an issue. Water goes right through you surgery or not, so I don't think it makes any difference. I just take a water bottle with me when I'm going biking (or taking some cardio class).

    The "honeymoon" period

Hunger also came back gradually for me, along with my sweet-tooth - so gradually that I can't even pinpoint the time when I really noticed. I was just very slowly and steadily able to eat a little more. My weightloss was also a steady, slow thing, so I didn't have the big-loss numbers in the first five months others can have, I had constant stalls and a rate of loss no different to pre-surgery diet efforts. My loss did slow down closer I got to goal, but reaching goal also snuck up on me because the slow weightloss had me take my focus off the scale for a month or so because I just assumed it was going to take ages. That whole a-watched-pot-doesn't-boil thing. These days I try to keep my calories around 1500, which I'll always have to be super mindful of because it takes so little to go over. Grazing is the enemy. Protein keeps me satisfied the longest, so that's always got to be the priority. The plan is for life.
  21. I had my surgery 6 months ago at 25 years old! I think this thread could be very helpful as every age range has different struggles! I thought because I was young and active I’d be up and exercising within days after surgery. Unfortunately, I was wrong and the anesthesia hit me hard!! I was nauseous and exhausted for 2-3 days post op and only tolerating 2 20 minute walks by one week. I used my nausea and pain meds around the clock for at least the first week and as needed there after. It was definitely a bigger adjustment than I had thought, so I was happy to have my family to support me through it. I also connected with a therapist pre op to have them as a support throughout the process. It’s hard to find people to relate to in their 20s who’ve had the surgery so therapy has definitely been helpful for me. I’m happy to elaborate on anything or answer any questions!
  22. I commend you for making this decision! One of my doctors first brought up surgery when I was in college. At that point, I knew I wasn’t ready to take my health that seriously. I wanted to have a “normal” college experience. I 100% do not regret waiting until after college to have the surgery since I knew I wasn’t ready. I’m still in my early 20s and it’s a tough life adjustment. My social life lessened a lot early on due to not being able to eat out or drink alcohol. I’d say in terms of college life that would be one of the bigger struggles post op. Also, depending on your dining options at school it can be difficult to track and have good options. At the beginning about the first 2 months it may be difficult to hide from your roommate that you’ve had surgery. The food options are pretty limited and the quantity is very small. But, a lot of college aged students have not struggled with weight yet and have no idea about bariatric surgery so they may never catch on! Also something to keep in mind, most people at my surgery center are out of work for 2 weeks. I know a lot of people say they feel fine after surgery, but it hit me hard and I needed the full 2 weeks off of work. I’ve heard that younger patients can have more side effects from anesthesia and that was definitely the case for me. So I’d definitely recommend at least 2 weeks before move in day. In terms of approaching the conversation with my parents, I told my mom that I had something important to talk to her about and I wanted her to support me in my decision. Later after I had gone through the pre surgical processes and had a date, I told my dad I decided to have surgery to improve my health and gave him the opportunity to ask any questions. Best of luck to you!

    Weight gain

I had my band removed in April 2023 and began to gain weight immediately. I was suddenly able to eat breakfast again, so I did! I am having RNY in June (6 weeks after the band removal), and my surgeon was upfront that the vast majority of patients who have their bands removed will unfortunately regain at least some weight since the stomach is almost back to its pre-band state without restriction.
  24. My last meal was Marco's pepperoni pizza and cheesy bread. That was actually my last two meals -- I got a whole pizza and order of cheesy bread and ate half of each on each of my last two days before surgery. I planned out a whole week of food funerals, but the catch was that I had to stay under 2,000 calories per day (I lost 70 pounds in the 5 months before surgery by limiting calories). The half pizza and half cheesy bread was my entire 2000 calories for each of the last two days. The rest of the week (which I know because I recorded it all in MyFitnessPal) included: Ribs and sidewinder fries from my favorite local restaurant Steak and onion rings (the steak was a ribeye from Walmart and really disappointing -- I wish I had splurged on a better steak) and half a piece of cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory (660 calories for half the slice!) Red Baron pizza and the other half of the slice of cheesecake Bacon cheeseburger that was voted the best burger in the city and a Klondike bar Pizza and wings from Pizza Hut I... really liked pizza. Before surgery, if I so much as saw an extra eating pizza in the background of a TV show, I would get an insatiable craving for pizza. Once a week, I would fast all day so I could have a whole Red Baron pizza as my one meal for the day (their brick oven pizza is underrated in the frozen pizza world). After surgery, I made some attempts at healthy pizza (e.g., chicken crust, low-carb tortilla crust) but eventually came to realize there were much tastier and healthier things that I would rather eat. I haven't had real pizza since my surgery (almost 3 years ago) or anything even resembling pizza in the last couple of years and, oddly enough, I don't miss it.

    May 2023 surgeries

I have been saying the same thing to my friends I don’t feel hungry or full. If they hadn’t put me on a time to eat I probably wouldn’t because I don’t know I’m hungry and I stop eating in 30 mins because they told me I don’t feel full. I don’t want to stretch my pouch either but it feels strange not having those feelings. I’m 4 weeks post-op from gastric bypass surgery
