Calories at 4 months
BT816 replied to Emailkariann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just over four months out now, and usually end the day around 1000-1100 calories. I've never received a specific target from my doc or nutritionist, but since I recently increased my protein goals my calories went up a bit as well. -
Shrimp is great I usually get it grilled. Yummy and high in protein

This morning I woke up and tried one of my new protein shakes... It is called Spiru-Tein... it was cookies and cream flavor - YUMMO! It is 99 caolries, 0 g of fat and 14 g of protein. I have a bunch of other flavored samples to try. The countdown is 11 days until my surgery... I am pumped! Today I went to the Satelite Horse Races with my nanny. She gave me $100 to play with and I finished the day with $108 ... So it was net $8. Not bad. I think with the $108 I will buy my mom a nice b-day present - like a facial/massage at a local spa. Well, tommorow is a new day of a new week... talk to you all tommorrow! Toodles!

FIRST FILL! HELP Options
Lovinglapbandliving commented on Lovinglapbandliving's blog entry in Blog 67084
I found a Surgeon who will Adjust my lapband eventhou my surgery was done in Mexico. I have been wondering about going back to Tj for fills because my Surgeon Dr. Kelly is a wonderful DR. It is just hard to find someone to watch my 3 kids to go. And the person I found is only 1.5 hours away and I can take them with me. (I will just make a field trip out of the day) THe fill dr here charges 150 for the fill and 350 if he needs to use the flouro. $500 ouch! But what are my options?! I hope he wont have to use fluro or I am out of luck and out of money! Fill centers USA is good but they are 200 miles away! It is 350 for the first round with fill centers, I believe it includes fluro????? I dont know.... I just wish I could go to my surgeon which I cant do with 3 kids! Should I keep my appt on the 8th? I have the 150 but not the 350 more if fluro is needed. I am just hoping it wont be needed! or cancel the appt on the 8th and find a bb sitter who will watch my kids for days so I can go back to TJ. My surgeon only charges $200 and he ALWAYS does fluro. I need to see how much the ticket would be......... or cancel the 8th and go to Fill centers USA drive 200 miles one way with kids pay 350 and hope it covers the fluro and fill. Options options.... For all of the MOMS out there.... What would you do? -
Getting bored with all this meat!
Nel replied to wonderwoman75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
and yes, getting your protein from one place is not good. Meats, cheese, protein drinks, eggs. Other dairy such as fage yogurt or any greek yogurt, sour cream, milk.... *be careful, they add horrible stuff to yogurt. Just cuz they call it cane juice, doesn't make it any less sugar * -
It is possibe to not lose weight if you are too tight. If solid protein is giving you trouble, you are probably eating softer foods, which means you are not staying full long and you may even be getting to many calories with the softer food. My doctor calls it 'soft food syndrome'.

Today almost to the minute 2 weeks ago I had surgery. I must say that the recovery has been pretty easy, at least once I have gotten home ( and not running through customs and ATL 2 days after surgery!) but there really hasn't been anything I couldn't or can't do, I probably shouldn't have been holding my big baby 4 days after surgery, but what am I to do leave her in her crib? Eating is getting a little trickier, ecspecially when I am out. I need to figure out how to work around that, I LOVE eating out, it is one of my biggest pleasures in life. I also love being on the go with the kids or even for a little alone time. How do you spend the evening in a book store and movie theater when you can't eat anything they have besides a bottle of water and maybe a latte? I really also find it hard because many of the things they say are on the O.K list I refuse to eat ie... Cottege Cheese, Tuna. I'll have to try and make a plan to have on hand things I do like for on the run. But even then I know how I am I get bored easily with soup in hand and protein shakes. I know this is just the begining and at this point I am probably just grieving the foods that I will probably never be able to have again. I'm thinking that I may try a little Salmon this weekend for Superbowl Sunday. Erik makes the best grilled salmon, my diet for week 3-4 is soft foods still but even now allows for a little more give. At least that is a big change from last year with feasting on chips dip and hot wings. I have yet to get on the exercise band wagon, just getting back into the normal routine has been hard enough with very little family time due to my new work schedule. My goal is to walk tonight at work on breaks and be prepared with dinner at my desk and Mp3 player and walking shoes. No more excuses.

Maybe you can try a VSG friendly diet so that you can start getting use to it. High protein meals and maybe start a workout routine. Good Luck!

Milk in the first week
PdxMan replied to triciavr77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early out, my first concern was hydration, not Protein. I could end up in the ER due to dehydration, but not due to lack of protein. As far as variety goes, I could have cared less. Yeah, it sucked a bit drinking the same thing day after day, but this was such a small amount of time I needed to do this. For me, the biggest issue was the lack of texture. That is what drove me nuts. My teeth just craved something of substance to mash on. Just find a Protein shake you can tolerate and know that this will pass soon. -
Are you on Clear Liquids or full liquids?? Clear liquid includes broth, Water, sugar free Jello and popsicles, etc., and full liquids starts to incorporate strained cream Soups. I was also banded on 9/20 and was eating cream Soup the very next day, as per the doctor's orders. Honestly, you should be fine, but if you feel you did something you shouldn't have, checking with your surgeon is the best option.

Wow...Congrats! Im two months out and I've only lost 20 pounds. Im losing slowly!!! I wanted to have lost 30-40 pounds by now. I started working out last week and I increased my protein, so maybe this will help! Again congrats.

9 weeks post op..help
Christinamo7 replied to bncbabe2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at my doctors office when I am weighed there is a ticker that states how many calories you need to maintain that weight. If you are eating less calories than needed, and you move your body the weight will come off. some of us just seem to have more stubborn fat. Keep up your Protein and fluids and take one day at a time. -
My mother doesn't think I'm losing enough!
VSGAnn2014 replied to Jewells70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seriously? Your mother is a WLS expert? Keep doing what you're doing. Make sure you're getting in ALL your Protein, ALL your Water. Gradually increase the amount of exercise you do -- without injuring yourself (that would set you back, eh?). And tell your mother to back off. -
Tomorrow I start my 10 day liquid diet. I'm prepared have my Jello setting in the fridge, Protein shakes ready and veggies and fruit proportioned out. Surgery on 9/11, and I can't wait. I'm anxious to finally see what people have always said. ” if I lost weight id be gorgeous”. Bring it on, I'm ready to be all that I can

I am looking for a good protein shake. What do you recomend? I feel hungry most of the time with the LEAN SHAKE from GNC.
-
I JUST went through that last week...and someone recommended Myoplex Carb Control (has 25 g of protein for 11 oz). I can actually tolerate this one. I had tried Isopure (Alpine Punch) first....and thought that it may be a nice, fruity way to get my protein. EWWW...NOPE! I thought I was going to throw up!! I do like Nectar too...someone told me to go to www.mybariatricpantry.com. They have a sample pack of like 12 flavors. I've only tried the cherry one so far. That was actually pretty good too. It mixed nice and there weren't any clumps. Give it a try!

The next point is chewing. It is very important that food is completely chewed. Before swallowing ensure the food is a liquid. As the weight loss progresses the opening from the pouch to the lower stomach will be getting smaller. Therefore the food needs to be chewed more thoroughly. If a piece of food is too big to go through the stoma, or opening, it will get "stuck". This can be very painful. Slower eating becomes inevitable. Eating too fast encourages bigger bites. The bigger bite means the food isn’t chewed properly and it can get stuck. As a Bandster with over 18 months in, I still find myself falling into this trap. I get excited, chatting with friends and just forget to pay attention. A Bandster’s Eating Order Lap Band patients have a specific order in which to eat their food. It is important that there is enough protein in the diet to keep the bodies moving properly. Therefore, the protein should be eaten first. WLS patients need 40-60 grams of protein every day. This can come in a variety of ways. Protein shakes, cheese, fish, beef, chicken, soy. The challenge comes when only certain foods can be tolerated. Also, it is important that the protein is a “hard” protein (chicken, beef, and fish) if possible. It shouldn’t all come from protein shakes and cheese. The vegetables should be eaten second, and carbohydrates/starches last (if there is room). Proteins last longer in the pouch and take longer to process through the band allowing you to feel full sooner and maintain satiety longer. Hard proteins are the most difficult for a Bandster to consume. The hard proteins need to be more moist, more tender and chewed more completely than any other type of food. Generally speaking, proteins are the foods that get “stuck” most often and cause spit ups. This happens because the bite isn’t small enough and/or, because the protein hasn’t been chewed sufficiently before swallowing. For the record, beef is generally the most difficult food for Bandsters to eat. Beef is one of the most difficult foods for humans to digest. It can take several days for a piece of steak to actually work its way through the digestive track. And that’s on an un-banded person! So, if you eat a piece of steak and it isn’t chewed it up completely, it can sit in the pouch for an extended amount of time. Further, the stomach acids that help an un-banded person process beef are not present in the pouch and therefore are not there to help the body break the beef down. Remember each and every person is different so you will have to test your own waters. Some Bandsters have no trouble with beef whatsoever; others won’t go near it. From personal experience I know that each Bandster will figure out what he or she can or cannot tolerate through trial and error. Trust me when I say that tolerances change; one day ground beef is fine and the next you realize it isn’t any longer. You must be willing and able to adapt to sudden changes in your body’s ability to process certain foods.

Same here! After a few bites, I get this pressure in my chest/windpipe area, that is only relieved by walking. I have been able to eat more often, but I can't take in a lot. This morning it took me two hours and 10 minutes to eat 5oz of Chobani yogurt. I am not complaining, I am just adjusting to my new life style! Still working on the protein though! -
Hello everyone! I'm new to the group
BenisaMartim4 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone. I am so glad to have found this group. It appears to be a wonderful support and information system. I am a 34 year old, wife and mother to four boys (ages 4,5,9,10. The oldest two have autism). I have been over weight all my life, but my health has really went down hill since the birth of my last child. I have been interested in weight loss surgery for several years now, but because of a lack of insurance, it was not a possibility for me. In June of this year, my husband joined the Toyota production team here in Mississippi and we got insurance on day one. I began pursuing my options very soon thereafter. I have finished all of my pre-surgery testing: weight management visits, EGD, stress-test, colonoscopy, sleep study and psych eval. My appointment to see the surgeon again and to submit everything to the insurance company is this Monday, Oct. 24. It will take up to four weeks to get a surgery date after that. I will keep y'all posted. I have already met my max out of pocket for this year, so this should not cost me anything. Everyone wish me luck! :0) -

At this point in the game, it seems to me that you shouldn't necessarily be waiting for hunger to get in your protein. Get yourself on an eating schedule to regularly provide fuel to your body, even if you aren't hungry. Not being hungry is useful to prevent unwanted snacking, but your body does need a reasonable amount of fuel to keep your metabolism churning along at a good rate to keep weight loss moving. Good luck! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using VST
