And the WTH have I done feeling has hit
Deakay replied to amw's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I've been on mushies for a week and still do 2 protein shakes a day just to get it all in. I'm afraid I will try to eat too much getting all of the 70 - 80 grams a day with just food. And I'm kinda lazy about packing lunch for work 2 shakes and a yogurt and I'm good til 2:00. I had my WTH moment as soon as I woke up in the hospital....it took a couple days but is all good now. AND I beat my coffee addiction while sleeping on morphine for 2-1/2 days! Go me! -

I found Yoplait yogurt drinks to be great when I moved to full liquids. They have a resealable lid so you can just sip a little as and when I got hungry. Fermented milk (ie yogurt) is generally well tolerated even by those with lactose issues. Maybe something like that will help you. All the best - you've not got long until mushies - although it seems like an eternity!! -
13 days post op still in full liquid stage. B coffee and chocolate premier Protein 1/2 L blended/strained Italian meatball Soup S chocolate premier shake (other 1/2) D instant potatoes, Greek yogurt and beef broth. My Soups are 2 and 4 oz . So ready for purée stage.

I am 7 days post op and I've been doing great with my diet of liquids but I'm curious what full feels like. I have yet to feel hunger so I am eating because I need to. I haven't eaten until I feel pain or discomfort so I'm starting to get concerned I'm not noticing it. What did full feel like to you this early on? I eat (drink rather) my broths and such very slowly and eat my Greek yogurt very slowly but I don't feel anything.

Thank you all for your kind words! It absolutely feels better than any food:) I notice a lot of you are newly banded...congratulations, I know you will do well. For those of you who wanted some meal favorites...here you go...I am actually pretty boring, but I will give you an idea. For Breakfast I always have a Protein shake, I mostly use unjury. I find that it taste the best...I get chocolate and mix with fat free milk and that is it. My Dr. is okay with it because I chose a low/carb, low fat/low calorie one....this way I make sure and get 28 grams of protein in right away. That actually satisfies me until lunch (although when I was in the "Bandster Hell" time I was hungry) For lunch I either have a Yoplait Light Yogurt (my new favorite is the pineapple Upside Down Cake) which is 110 calories and then I will have either a Light string cheese or 100 calorie baked cheetoes...or else I may have a Soup at hand low sodium soup. Then for dinner I have a few favorites....I make taco salad with ground turkey, low fat cheese and baked tostitos and low fat dressing. I also eat a lot of boneless grilled chicken. Lean steak, like sirloin or filet with a baked potato and salad. Ground Turkey Burgers I don't put it on a bun....If I go out, I try to get a sub sandwich with no cheese no mayo or I get grilled chicken. I do splurge once in awhile, but I just make sure and not overeat....we did wings the other night and I used to eat 12 and now I eat 4. I know pretty boring....but once you start getting a good fill, it is amazing how food just isn't that important anymore...I mean don't get me wrong I think I will always have an obsession with food, but I have learned to listen to my stomache and not my head. I don't know if any of you have experienced this, but I just don't crave things like I used....I think not drinking the Diet Pepsi has helped with that....I used alway want chips or popcorn or something salty with my soda and now the cravings are not there. Anyway, I hope this helps a bit...as you notice I really try not to snack and I try to stay at about 800 calories a day...before I got a good fill I was doing 1000 calories and losing. I do go to the gym at least 3-4 times a week...I will never love it, but it does get easier! 40ismy year...Congrats to you!!! That is awesome...I see you did a 10k...that is amazing! Good for you.....You will be at 100 any day now:) Good luck to y'all and if you ever have any questions, I would love to answer them.

If you have emotional ties to eating you should consider counseling to help support you on this journey. That being said, I had mine 8/31 and have felt deprived at all yet, probably because I battled more pain than expected. I don't know if you started on clear liquid or full liquids but I started on full liquids and tomato soup made with milk has been awesome when I feel hungry. I try and sip protein shakes throughout the morning and evening, drinking 1/2 a premiere shake at a time. Also smooth light yogurt is helpful, but I can eat more than I think I should (1/2 a container). Hang in there, things will normalize for us and the weight loss and health will be worth it. My experience is a lot like Rosana's. I had some minor nausea right after the surgery but they gave me a patch and that made things much better. I basically only ate ice chips the first day. I tried a bite of jello and tried some broth but they didn't taste good. The second day I was put on full liquids so I had yogurt and pudding for breakfast. I went home around noon and stayed on my pain meds for another 24 hours. Liquids have been a challenge but finally easier today. I felt really empty, not hungry just empty, until yesterday. I made some pudding with protein and that helped take away that feeling. Honestly I wasn't walking around as much as I should but finally got out yesterday and that made a huge difference to relieve the bloated feeling in my abdomen area. The gas pain was never that bad for me, basically discomfort. Overall things have gone pretty smoothly. I have no regrets. Good luck, you are going to do great!

Well it's been a whirlwind week. So day two he was already starting to question his plan, he really had this totally dillusional idea about how it would be better for all of us and somehow failed to put any reality into it. By day three he broke up with her . By day 4 he agreed to marriage counciling. He is still living out of his office in my basement. We are still fairly seperate except for dinner with the kids. It's a lot of mixed emotions. I get frustrated that he isn't processing things. He still believes I played a part in this. Sorta. I am not sure how he feels about her. I wish he was in the making up for all the pain, hurt and lies phase. He isn't yet, but it's only been a few days. Somedays I wake up and just wanna pretend like nothing ever happened. Other days I can't get it out of my head. It's gonna be a long road. I still can't seem to eat. I can get a little Protein shakes (about 1/2 shake at a time), maybe one or two. I was able to keep down most of Greek yogurt yesterday. It's been such a nightmare. Last night was the first night I slept more than an hour or two. This week is try to get back to some normalcy, try getting protein in even if it can only be shakes now. Get back to taking medicine and Vitamins. I don't really wanna try the gym again until I can get more than 200 calories in. I am gonna call my PCP and see if she will order me some sleep meds and maybe some anxiety stuff...I dunno. For all of you, and all of the messages thank you. It's gonna be rough, I am so glad to have any support. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Ice tea, coffee, pickles, coleslaw, salad, fruit salad, deconstructed burgers/sandwiches, lettuce bun burgers/sandwiches yogurt, cottage cheese, chili, etc... -
I'm not having trouble drinking at all. I do take small sips all day long, but haven't limited myself as to how much at one time. Since it's just liquid, I don't think it just sits in your little pouch. I'd think it would just go right through. I'm pretty much subsisting off of yogurt, protein drinks, crystal light and water. Congratulations on your 20 lbs! That's great! I've lost 10 since surgery. I had my check up today and the doctor thought that was pretty good.

Recently, I was reading the back of a Special K® Protein cereal box and saw a statement that lack of sleep can increase the feeling of hunger by 25 percent. Since I’m in a profession that is science based, I did some research on the National Library of Medicine website to verify this. I didn’t find the study that supported detailed that 25 percent increase in hunger when you don’t sleep enough. However, there were several areas where researchers are linking poor sleep and weight gain. If you are tired, you usually don’t feel like exercising. You move less, so you burn fewer calories. Being tired makes you more likely to choose a food like cake instead of salad. There were a couple of studies that did find an increase in ghrelin after poor sleep. Ghrelin is the gut hormone that makes you hungry. Sounds like the perfect storm for weight gain, right? You produce less ghrelin after surgery, which leads to less food intake. Part of weight loss after surgery is that you produce less ghrelin, which leads to less food intake. If eating more healthfully is a challenge for you, it may be that you need to start with better sleeping habits. By the way, that Special K protein cereal is a great add-in to light Greek yogurt. This is a great snack before surgery and about two months after surgery. Happy Zzzz’s!

tinagatorfan79 replied to tinagatorfan79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you both so much for the much needed advice I'm so thankful to have such wonderful peers & I am so glad I'm not the only one going through this I'm in my pre surgery stage as well & I don't want to be denied my surgery due to 1lb. Of weight which will deny me my surgery. Is it ok to eat Greek yogurt? I know it has 15g.Of protein & what about the cliff protein bars? Would a protein shake such as special k or slimfast work to substitute one of my meals? -
Doing this by myself - terrified!

You should be fine. I had a ride home from surgery, and that was it. No help more than that. Here are some things I did to make things easier on myself... My kitchen was ready. I had these tiny little tupperware (condiment sized) and I pre-measured broth and Water into those. I would get them set up in the morning and it was easy to keep track of my consumption. I also had all my med's lined up and ready for the day, Immediatly post-op I had my living room set up...sofa was ready with lots of pillows, tv ready, bathroom.... I had the frige ready for stage two..pureed. I bought boxed Soups, yogurt, and whatever else I thought of that I may need. I really wanted to avoid grocery shopping with my new sleeve so I prepared as much as possible. My ex kept the kids for about three days after my surgery. I was fine from that point on. Not much recovery time. Mostly it was food prep. The MOST important thing was realizing that my number One go-to coping skill (eating) was non-existent. So my big advise would be to not forget about lining up a few new ways of dealing with stress. Good luck on your journey!! The early days go by quick. The recovery isn't that bad. You can do it alone with some prep work. -
Im 9 days out. I was a little sore still at 6 days, but felt the need to go back to work cause staying home was driving me crazy!!! My doctor has his patients on a full liquid/clear liquid diet after we come home from. Getting 75grams of protein in aday, along with 64 ounces of water seems pretty much impossible!!! Ive bought Unjury protein to add to my crystal light, and chicken broth. I cant have yogurt until two weeks out, which is three days away!! Yes, Im excited about yogurt!! I had a baby shower today, and although the food smelt so good, i wasnt hungry...oh and the cannolies!!! Ohhh maron!!! Pastries galore! It was weird, cause a part of me missed digging in and chowing down....but thats not me anymore!! I have a new way of life! Good luck to you!

Greek yogurt was on my doctors list of full liquids.

I fortified Greek yogurt with unflavored whey Protein (GNC Pro Performance), I also ate cottage cheese, pureed Soups (yum butter nut squash soup!) Egg Drop Soup from the Chinese restaurant. Scrambled and hard cooked eggs. I also had corned beef hash. It is really high in sodium so don't have it too often, but it had such a different flavor and was just what I needed to get me past the "I can't stand it anymore"! blahs!
-
I've wondered the same thing. I'm still struggling to eat slow and I'm not tolerating soft foods as well as I thought. I'm going back to my cottage cheese and yogurt tomorrow.

Don't compare. Everyone loses at their own rates. However what are you eating that prevents you from increasing your Protein? That should be your number one goal, especially if you are working out. You could add some plain greek yogurt to your protein shake to up the protein. (I am partial to FAGE 0%). Many factor go into determining who will have lose skin; age, race, genetic, etc.... You can try and prevent it by keeping skin moisturized, keeping your body hydrated and lifting weights which may help replace the fat with muscle, but there are no guarantees. I also like adding a bit of chopped spinach (fresh or frozen) to my Protein drinks. It add Vitamins and nutrients like Iron, and it's good for the bowels. As for calorie guidelines, you should call and ask your nutritionist. In fact you might want to call them and brainstorm about ways to increase your protein intake.
