    This is hard....

I can't help but smirk when I read this. I went through the same chit. Lol I know it's hard. Gets a little easier each week. Some faster for others. I am 6wks and guess what I had for dinner? Greek yogurt. That's it. Why? Cause I was feeling like u. Solids are still hard for me.

1st Week Post Op Diet Dilemma

I made several home made soups post op, and used my magic bullet to purée. It worked out fine. I even took meaty tomato sauce and puréed it. It was delish. I was so sick of sweet protein shakes! You can also drink Kefer probiotic yogurt drinks. Those are very filling. Making home made soup is the way to go. It gives you something to do as well as some good standing and moving time.

    start pre-opt diet tomorrow

I use the Protein powder and turn it into slushies. I haven't tried any of the flavored syrups; just read about them yesterday. I combine the milk, orange juice ice and powder for my Breakfast shake and for dinner I use the powder, small amount of milk, ice, yogurt and a spoonful of cocoa ... yummy. I buy Centrum chewables as a Vitamin. I'm a bit ahead of you at 60 and this is exciting! Full steam ahead with no looking back!!!
  4. A few of the rules I remember which made me successful at losing 50 lbs. were: >use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate >3 bites of protein, 3 bites of veggie, 1 bite of carb, repeat until satisfied >eat every 3 hours >fill up on protein for snacks, (hard boiled egg with a piece of cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken breast etc.) >never drink your calories, except for a protein shake >No carbonated drinks > do not frink for 30 min. before and for 30 min after a meal >eat slowly, chew much, small bites >Limit fruit, due to the sugar it converts to Can anyone help me think of anymore? especially designated for lapbanders? I realize all doctors do not give the same instructions.

    pre opers please consider

Just a quick reminder that what you like pre-op and what you like post-op may be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, so it's a good idea not to stock up. And if you find something doesn't agree with you post-op, give it time. I went through phases - lots of nectar in the early months, moved to morning protein hot cocoa in the later months, now I occasionally use other flavors to blend with greek yogurt, or with ice to make into a smoothie, or with tofu to make into a pudding. I haven't touched the nectar in a LONG time. Another site to try is Vitalady - she creates sample packets from all sorts of different brands. And be aware that some shops like GNC will let you return a product you don't like, so that can be a good place to shop post-op.

How much you can eat ?

I'm just over 3 months out and eating about 600-800 calories a day. I've had a couple 1000 days this month but it was two days that I ate things I shouldn't over my birthday weekend. How much I can eat is depends on the density of the food. Solid meats ensure that I will never get to any vegetables. I always eat my protein first. I can eat two eggs for breakfast but only one if I choose to make a slice of bacon. I have good restriction and have zero hunger. If I didn't eat until I was hungry I would go all day without eating. I never feel sensations of hunger. I plan breakfast and dinner and eat lunch when I think about it but most times I end up just snacking. My favorite snacks are Greek yogurt, cheese sticks wrapped with a piece of ham, almonds, walnuts, or protein shakes. I'm halfway to goal with 40 pounds to go. My weight loss is slow compared to others but I am happy with how things are going. With all my stalls my skin has had a good chance to bounce back. And at 50, my skin needs all the help it can get:-)
  8. Thank you! I bought some Greek yogurt today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. hello everyone, So Im starting my pre op diet very soon and I am a lil confused as to calorie and carb intake.... Is there a certain amount of calories and carbs we should be limiting ourselves to during the pre op diet?? I was told to do one week of : 3 Protein shakes A DAY ALL THE Water I CAN DRINK ALL THE YOGURT I CAN EAT ALL THE broth I CAN EAT ALL THE juice I CAN DRINK NO PULP AND I CAN HAVE sugar free Jello AS A TREAT. It sounds as if there is no limit to how much..... I purchased the Ensure clear and it has 180g cals and 35gcarbs, seems to be a lot....does this sound like something I should be drinking on a daily basis?? also the Ensure clear only has 9g protein which seems pretty low, is there a certain amount of protein I should be getting during the pre op?? Should I get the Ensure shakes they have 25g protein also should I be taking the little protein shots during the pre op?? Also what about the 3 day laxative I hear that people had to take should I do that even though I wasnt told to?? I see that each surgeon has different requirements but I just want to make sure I am taking the best route to lose as much as possible. Any ideas/adivce would be appreciated thanks so much 17 days to go yay!!

I Need A Lil Help Please:)

My nutritionist said to get protein drinks/powders that have most of their protein from whey. She also said to avoid the drinks Scaredoftheunknown identified. In addition, she really pushed plain yogurt, the kind without the fruit in it, and said it doubles as a fluid. I have taken a fierce liking to Fage 2% plain yogurt which has 23 grams of protein per cup. The Fage tastes like sour cream, so some do not like it.

    Yogurt ((GROSS))

I hate the texture of cottage cheese, but can eat it after I run it through the food processor or blender & add in something to it. I love yogurt, though, so I guess I'm OK with smooth.

    Mushies

I love Greek yogurt, hummus, goat cheese, refried beans and cheese, olive tapanade, cream of wheat cereal, hot chocolate milk, sf tapioca pudding, 60 calorie lime popsicles from trader joes, some times the instant mashed potatoes made with a lot of milk and I have started making my own chicken broth which is amazing with little noodles and Parmesan cheese!

  16. So far bafflement... still undergoing tests but nothing conclusive so far... has anyone else experienced post-op complications several years out? Surgery July 2016. Only lost 100lbs (I know, I know, "only"), but I'm still about 100lbs overweight. I'm not unhappy w/the amount lost at all and feel much better overall so I do not regret the surgery. First, not sure any or all of these symptoms are related at all but since they're all (potentially) GI-related, I can't help but think (especially now) that they are. So here goes: I can't remember exactly when the first one occurred, but it was after "healing" for sure but the first time it happened, it was definitely after surgery: a charlie-horse in my abdomen. These occur very suddenly and occur when I'm bending, reaching or twisting my abdomen--but always forward, not backward. For example, I might just tuck my belly in to look down at my feet and whammo, charlie horse. I reach forward to pick up a kitten... whammo. They can happen at any time and are excruciatingly painful and I just jerk backwards in reaction and take diaphragmatic breaths and they'll ease up. About 4 months ago, I had a sudden pain "attack" after eating a relatively fatty meal... I'm talking waves of pain in the gut so intense that I actually called 911. Since I still have my gallbladder, I assumed gallbladder problems. Pain lasted about 7 hours or so, even through narcotics given in the ambulance and at the hospital. Worst pain I've ever felt in my life. Multiple tests run... no gallstones, so they basically sent me home after the pain finally subsided with a ridiculous "gastritis" diagnosis. Sorry, was crapola. About 6 weeks after that, I started to have diarrhea... for over two weeks straight, every single day. Didn't respond to OTC anti-diarrheals. Saw walk-in doc (my doc was on vacation) who ran a bunch of tests and nothing positive except blood in the stool. Diarrhea eventually cleared. PCP ordered endoscopy and colonoscopy--both normal. About 6 weeks ago, another pain attack--but not after fatty meal... just yogurt. This time I remembered I had meds at home--took anti-spasmodics (hyoscyamine) and oxycodone... took 3x regular dose to make pain tolerable. Faded again after about 7 hours. PCP suspects gallbladder function is to blame, even though no stones, so HIDA test this Thursday. In the timeline, this pain attack was about a week after the diarrhea cleared up... about a month ago. But here's the deal: I can physically (i.e. with my hands) feel that under that trocar scar is a hardening of tissue... it makes sense that it's scar tissue of course, but I feel like it's getting bigger? (as in, over a wider area, not deeper). It's not painful when pressure is applied, just uncomfortable? I have not yet brought this part up to PCP, but she has palpated my abdomen before and didn't call out anything as unusual. So I'm at a loss as to what's going on but something definitely is. Anyone experience anything at all like this? Especially those who are years out from surgery? So confused and tired of taking tests that aren't leading anywhere... thank goodness I have excellent insurance. Michelle
  17. mistysj for the very 1rst time in 2+ years my DH said something to me yesterday!!! I had one fage yogurt with fresh blueberries and granola (yum yum, my favorite) about 4 hours i had another one tom commented something like, "didn't you already have one of those earlier?" i couldn't believe it btw DH is about 100 lbs overweight (doesn't want to lose weight, but is thrilled for my weight loss) go figure kathy
  18. I remember immediately after my surgery, barely able to eat a few bites of yogurt or Soup. Then the swelling went down, and I had to keep getting fills over the course of 6 months. I then went a year without a fill, and was concerned that I could eat a jr hamburger (yes, I was tempted, and was able to eat it). The Dr. said I shouldn't wait so long to come in, the Water can evaporate (how that's possible in a closed system is beyond me). So I got a good fill, and was back on the road to weight loss. Then this month (it's been another year since my last fill, but I've lost 25 lbs in the last year - so I wasn't going to run in and get a fill when I keep losing weight) I lost 10 lbs. Feels like my band is tight, like I just had a fill. That's how I found this site. I wondered if rapid weight loss might cause the band to tighten. I am definitely not complaining. in the 2yrs and 4 months since my surgery i've lost 70 lbs. I just took in a bunch of custom clothes I had made, after my first big weight loss, to the tailor to have them altered 3 pant sizes. My brain has definitely been trained. I used to drive by McDonalds and stop to get fries (even if I wasn't hungry). Now I keep driving. I can't barely eat 1 or 2 fries without regurgitating them. I eat soup and salad most days. My appetite is a fraction of what it used to be (I would order 2 combo meals for lunch and 2 combo meals for dinner...now I can't even do 2 fries!). This surgery was the best thing I could do for my health. My Blood Pressure is better, I feel better, and I save so much money on NOT eating out, or even eating period.

    Men Only

I'm still pretty new - my loverly band isn't even 2 weeks old yet, and I haven't had my 1st fill - so I don't have a lot to contribute at this point. I am trying to excercise - but I don't really like it. There are some things I truly enjoy doing, and I will eventually get my world situated so that I can do those things, but for now I do what I can. I walk some, dance some with my wife, and have re-started my attempts to build some ab muscles via crunches and the like. I am trying to contain my snacking - at the moment, I'm usually able to limit it to Protein drinks, yogurt/smoothies, and (when it's more 'munchy' than hunger) sugar free pudding. But again, I'm still on the post-surgery mushy phase of things... there's more than just my willpower keeping me in check.

The dreaded protein shakes and bars

I've just been doing lots of soup (Gardenay), apple juice, and yogurt along with vitamins and clacium supplements. I am hoping that the yogurt will cover my protein needs. Speaking of that, I bought some low-fat sour cream dill dip today. I figure I can do with a break from tzatziki. I am starting to look forward to a week from today when it will be mushie time!
  22. Yeah I know... my nutritionist told me its ok to have yogurt the 4th day.. I started reading the forums and found out that some didnt drink it till a week later.. I was bloated yesterday from the protein shake and got so paranoid and called the doctors office upset lol! But he told me supposedly its ok.. people telling me different things.. Im kinda getting confused so I stopped the yogurt and its my 9th day and Im still in clear liquids haha... so scared to feel bloated again or mess up my band. Plus I dont mind being in liquids for a while as long as I will be ok.. its my 9th day and I already lost 7 lbs! Yey! My only problem is my obsession with the scale lol ....................... and sucked on a cheetos puff... ( HeyJust wanted to taste it k lol ) I will agree to be in liquids forever as long as I have cheetos puff lol!

    March sleevers.. Progress?

ylopez..my day is almost exactly what yours is: Egg beaters/turkey sausage crumbles for breakfast shake mid morning sliced turkey with mustard/cheese for lunch (or I have discovered chicken salad from Chick Fil A if I am out around town. The smallest you can get is a medium, and I eat half and take the other half home for dinner. It goes down good.) greek yogurt for afternoon snack (I can only eat half of the cup) 1/2-3/4 piece fish or 1/2 turkey burger patty with cheese for dinner 1/2 cup taco meat with shredded cheese is real good to me, too..I was missing something with flavor! I also like about 4 shrimp. I dip everything in mustard. i am a little afraid of ketchup, yet, for the sugar. Sometime i wil eat the rest of my yogurt for before bed snack It is VERY hard to get in all the Water they say you need because i am full from meals for about 2 hours, then it's almost time to eat again!

    Gnawing Pain in Stomach

Maybe not for everyone, but when I called doc he said to have start with some drinkable yogurt. He was thinking hunger pains, and it was. No probs since adding a thicker liquid. Just a thought.
  25. Hi. Not sure what UK doctors have you eat after surgery but here are some thoughts. I found buying Chicken Stock was much better than Chicken Broth. Gave a lot more flavor. Also when you can move to full liquids I really enjoy Greek Yogurt which is higher in protein than the regular stuff we get here in the US (mine has 17 grams protein for 6 ounces). I take it out of it's original container and put it in a bowl and add several tablespoons vanilla Whey Protein Powder, unflavored fiber powder, Splenda (fake sweetener sold in the US), and a tablespoon fat free milk. I use a "stick blender and mix everything together and mince up the fruit from the yogurt. Tastes fabulous!
