Phantom poo
byebyedarkpassenger replied to Hippie72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope but love the term :phantom pooo:! Could it be constipation? Is your poo more solid than it was before surgery? That may cause your symptoms. I'm just about a year out. Right after surgery I only went #2 every 4-5 days, then was very constipated for a couple of months (rock-hard poo), then got ridiculously gassy for a few months until I practically eliminated breads, and am now back to normal both with regularity and consistency. Sorry if this is TMI. -
Long term regret? Doubting myself
Aggiemae replied to Didjit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started this process once 10 years ago and lost so much weight during the pre op period that I didn't go through with it. I am great at diets, my problem has always been maintenance. This time my pre prep was extensive. Also I'm in my mind 60s and losing weight, even on 1200 calories a day had become impossibly slow and tedious. I've lost 23 pounds and I am already able to walk over a mile and at the risk of TMI, I have already lost enough abdominal weight to stop peeing in my pants. My husband and I are majorities. And other that my current preference for soft food and the fact that eating g out costs half as much it really hasn't effected our social life. The refrigerator is another story as the main cook learns not to cook meals for four when Nell two people eat more than 3 oz of food. The first 10 weeks are restrictive but so far I've put it into perspective. Keep in touch. -
Errrrrrm..... TMI!:speechles

And now, I'd like to vent and complain! I know I tell other people to take it easy, stalls happen, loss is different for everyone, blah blah blah. But right now, I'm pretty frustrated, so I could use some support of my own. I am down forty pounds since surgery. That's great. I know it is. It's an average of 3.33 pounds a week, which is better than a typical diet. But I'm frustrated. VERY frustrated! I've been stalled for twelve days now. I keep gaining and losing the same two pounds over and over again. I put the scale away last week hoping to see the numbers change but nope - after a week I was up four tenths of a pound. I'm between monthly cycles - this is usually the only time of the month that I do lose, and instead I'm stalled. If my cycle affects me like usual, I can expect to be up 1-3 pounds next week and then stalled again. The first month out I lost 18 pounds. The second month I lost 8 pounds. Now I'm two days from twelve weeks out and I've lost 14 pounds this month. I suppose the good news is that I lost more in month three than month two. I'm still pretty aggravated with the slow loss. Slow loss would be A-OK (or at least less gripe-worthy) if it was accompanied by skin that wasn't sagging, but unfortunately, my skin is sagging horribly. I expected bad things from the stomach, since I've had twins. The stomach was bad to begin with. But my breasts? Already? And my thighs? And my butt even droops! I can lift up part of my butt and jiggle it like a saggy breast. Yes, that's probably TMI. I don't care, I'm complaining! Maybe I wouldn't be as frustrated if I wasn't so incredibly close to 199 pounds. For whatever reason, that's this huge success to me - to be out of the 200s again. Anyway, I just wanted to complain. I know nobody has advice because there's no good answer. Since I still hate eating (I never thought I'd be so unhappy to never be hungry, but eating is still a total chore for me) I'm backtracking to full liquids for three days. I hope that will kick start the weight loss again. Anything to change it up, right? So, thanks for giving me a place to gripe. Once I lose a few pounds I'll be cheery again, I promise. And yes, plastic surgery is in my future, but I'll battle that saggy skin with weight lifting and squats in the meantime to do my part to help it along. I expected some sag, but really - these 70 year old breasts are not improving my grumpy disposition. Hope everyone else is having a better time of it than me! ~Cheri

Miralax Doesn't Work for Me - Need Options
Rebecca09 replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had this problem both before and after surgery...(tmi?) What works the best for me with no cramping, etc. is Philip's Milk of Magnesia. Its not the best taste in the world, but if you pretend its like a shot its fine. Hope that helps. -
I'm in the same boat, I had my surgery around the same time as you, though I only got down to 196 from 398, none of my stuff fit & I had to buy new clothes for the summer. I have so much loose skin on my belly, upper thighs, skin hanging off the sides if my knees & my arms, also turkey neck. A year n a half ago I started a new relationship, I'm embarrassed to get naked in front of him ( sorry if it's TMI) & since I moved I. with him I've gained 46lbs, & our sex life has come to a stand still. I've talked to him about it & he says it's not me he has a health issue that makes it uncomfortable, no to mention we both suffer from chronic pain, I want to believe him, but before I gained the extra weight it wasn't an issue, the more upset I get, the more I eat, just need some advice on jump starting my weight loss & need to know if anyone else has theses issues, we're not spring chickens, lol he's 60 & I just turned 55, any help would be appreciated Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm a Bandster!! :biggrin2: Surgery was 3 hours, w/ hernia repair. The first night in the hospital, had my own Morphine button! At home I slept for the next three days, thanks to the Percocet! The pain now feels like puncture wounds. I mean surface pain, except the port feels deeper. Wish I could bend over and tie my shoes . I still have the GAS, enough to clear a room . I know TMI, but so far I've only had some left shoulder discomfort. I need to walk more because it's getting worse. The clear liquids made me very weak, and sick. Lack of sugar, according to the surgeon. Once I had my first protein shake on day 7, I started feeling better. Today is day 10 and I'm getting stronger everyday. Shannon, sorry about the longer recovery time and scar. This is my third laparoscopic type surgery, so I now have 12 scars. I'm a human pin cushion! That's not going to stop me from wearing a bikini once I'm at goal! Good luck to All!!

Green Tealael I have an FYI/TMI question. Does T Effluvium have to do with head hair only or all Bodily Hair? The later sounds pretty scary, not sure I am going to feel Gung Ho the whole way.

Diane---my life lately seems to go from one saga to the next---so it is a joke! I can barely string 2 words together let alone write a book that anyone would want to read!!! As for the hiccups....if I pay VERY close attention, my nose will get sniffly, and then if I take another bite or 2, I hiccup, if I don't stop---it is a PB waiting to happen! So it is a stop signal for me too. I eat similar amounts to what Mandy was saying. I can eat like half a sandwich or a taco....something in that range. I cannot eat much pasta---it fills me up VERY fast---1/4 to 1/2 cup full and I am done! Kids meals are ideal at fast food, I find myself ordering a lot of things on the sides menus...ala carte. Or Rick and I will order and appetizer, and then share a main course. People worry a lot about eating out, and it has never been an issue with me! hair loss for me started about 4 months out and lasted until close to a year, and was severe!!! It was scary! It has however since began growing back, it is not as long as the rest of my hair, I am hoping soon to meet somewhere in the middle!! I am not brave enough to cut it off short like Mandy did!! I tried all the bioten, and nioxin shampoos, and a shampoo from the beauty supply called Folicure---nothing made a difference. Finally I decided my Pantene made what hair I had left feel the best, and thought maybe stressing over it was making it worse. I have lost all my hair before with chemo---so I thought maybe that made me predisposed to losing it. When I lost it with chemo, it was straight and blonde when I lost it, when it grew back in it was darker and curly. This time around what is growing back in appears to be the same hair color and texture as before. I kept my Protein up, and made sure to change up and eat good fats, nothing seemed to make a difference. BUT it is temporary, and will grow back. Mandy is right though watch your drains, and also watch the beater bar on your vaccuum, I almost burned ours up it clogged up with long hair!! My port is up pretty high, and is a low profile -- it has never bothered me much during exercise. I have to be careful when I reach over the tailgate of our truck, it hits me everytime! And while it might be TMI, sometimes it is uncomfortable during sex! So we move! But muscle movement has never made it hurt at all, just rubbing against it, or smacking it ---like when I am hauling wood, or doing some other stupid thing---the latest, loading a cow into the chute, I dropped the branding bar into it---I was worried I really hurt it then--- I bruised and everything!!! But it is all good now! Think it means I should not brand any more cows---don't you think??? Pat hope today took you forward---sometimes the 3rd day is a hard one.. check in when you can!!! Hugs to all my girls!! Kat

Packing for Hospital Stay
SleeveGirl-TX replied to smacbeth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very Little.... I wore the same outfit home that I wore to the hospital, just make sure it's loose and comfy. I bought clean undies and didn't put the bra on (incision is right at my bra line LOL Also: Chapstick Biotine (?) mouth spray A loose light robe (to cover the gown when walking) Slip on slippers for walking if you don't like those socks they give you, and I wore them home Your meds Toothbrush Hairbrush Book That was basically it. You aren't there long and the first day you're pretty drugged. I didn't even read much. TMI -- I had started my period that morning (and I'm told surgery brings it on for some ladies) and they gave me mesh undies and a bunch of pads. I hated the itchy mesh undies so had hubby bring several pair because I kept freaking leaking out the pads. They don't allow tampons. Stupid. -
I'm not banded yet so I don't know if you want my advice but for me - if I don't get enough Water the day before, look out! IF I can go, it takes FOREVER! Sorry, TMI!!! Anyway, check your water intake and see if that needs to be increased. Even banded you still need 64 oz a day.

I had my surgery this afternoon. I've been in and out of sleep. The pain is very moderate. Honestly is just the gas. I've been trying to fart for a couple hours now lol tmi. The staff at my hospital are awesome. I'm not allowed to drink anything until tomorrow. Overall I feel great I hope I heal quickly. I'm so happy I did this????????????????

Thrush?!? Ughhh
thisisit replied to Jessiegurl2686's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jessica and YES, YES, I do have thrush. I am 5 weeks post op and was diagnosed at my 2 week follows-up. Excepting that, I had been very fortunate with no other complications or complaints. So, dr put me on Fluconazole. Within hours after starting that I went into a 9 day HORRIBLE time with explosive diarrhea (sorry, TMI). The drs office didn't associate my diarrhea with the fluconazole but instead blamed it on the fact that I was just starting puréed foods AND had had c-diff with a previous surgery. I was then put on a RX for Flagyl (to treat c-diff). Finally after testing clear for c-diff, I still continued taking the Flagyl and Culturelle as well as finished up the RX for thrush. Finally after 9 horrible days of the diarrhea it cleared up and I was able to go back to work last week. Then just yesterday I went back to surgeon for 5 week check up. I STILL have the thrush. So, this time they put me on the fluconazole and also a liquid oral treatment called nystatin. So took my first pill and mouth rinse last night and OMG, the horrible diarrhea is back again. I obviously now think this is from that RX. called my drs office this am and nurse told me to stop taking the rx and I'm waiting to hear further instructions from them. I want to get rid of this thrush, BUT, not with this diarrhea again. And, my initial tongue symptoms wee same as yours. I would make them check it, but, I sure hope you have better reaction to the treatment. Yuck! Good luck and let me know what you find out. cdf37 My apologies, I meant Jessie. -
Gastric Sleeve to SADI-S
NovaLuna replied to rlmontgomery1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not sure what to say about how to get your insurance to cover a revision, but if you're having reflux problems then maybe have Bypass instead. I had the Sadi-S myself, and have lucked out that my EOE didn't cause the acid issues to get worse (I have acid issues at night due to EOE a.k.a Eosinophilic Esophagitis). If you do get the Sadi-S here's some advice... 1. don't go too long without something in your stomach even if it's applesauce or fruit, etc. because if I wait to long inbetween eating my bowels decide to empty everything in them. (TMI, but you should know so you can avoid it happening to you) 2. Always take a probiotic every day because it helps with keeping you regular 3. I don't know if it's a common thing for Sadi-S or other surgeries or if it's just me... but I haven't been able to throw up since my surgery... 3 years ago (and yes, I've been sick and dry heaved for hours, but couldn't throw up). 4. having any WLS with a malabsorption factor gives you a 3% chance of developing a wheat allergy or Celiac's (I got the wheat allergy because my luck is ****). And, 5. I don't know if it's just a DS or Sadi-S thing, but there is a chance after surgery that you will vomit old blood (if this counts as vomiting then this is the only time I've thrown up since surgery. It happened three or four times while I was in the hospital after surgery. They didn't warn me and it scared the **** out of me). Anyway, yeah... I'm happy with my surgery choice, but if I'd had another chance I think I'd have gone for the original DS since it has slightly better weight loss results. I had the normal gain back you get going into your third year and straddle between 188-193 which I've been for 9 months. Also, any time you have surgery, ANY surgery, you risk the chance of health problems popping up that you would have got a little later in life. I developed Mast Cell Activation Syndrome after my WLS and it's been a b***h to deal with. I mean, technically the doctor told me she thinks I probably already had the beginnings of it before the surgery and the surgery itself just... made it progress to a more severe case (apparently they noticed a trend in people with EOE developing MCAS so it was pretty much going to happen anyway). But still. Health issues can pop up after surgery. So just be aware of it. Hopefully everything goes well for you and sorry for the word vomit. -

pain and walking
Cherylmilla replied to Cherylmilla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly! You said a mouthful!!! I just want to be normal. we are hardly "eating" any calories, so we're tired from that. Then add the pain (and TMI, I got my period a few days ago, so through that on there). Thankful I have everyone on here to gripe to, LOL. I know my husband is sympathetic, but he can't fully understand (I'm glad he doesn't have to go through this). -
Anyone having surgery in May
MommaD88 replied to Cupcake's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to the men! TMI I know. I know what you mean about getting the time of the month. Because my O2 levels kept dropping they didn't want to take the foley cath out. So they expected me to walk with the cath and deal with mother nature all at the same time....embarrassing. Oh well all is good now. -
Anyone having surgery in May
loveslavender replied to Cupcake's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone, I had my gastric sleeve done on May 7th. I too also cleaned the house good, gave the dog a bath etc. With the Lord watching over me I did great with a few bumps. I bought premier liquid shakes because they were already made and bought them at Costco you can also get the powder form in a HUGE bag for 40.00. I bought sugar free chocolate pudding, Mott's green apple applesauce. Campbell's has an awesome butternut squash soup. I loved Swanson's chicken broth I went to stage 2 a day after surgery because I didn't do well on the 1st phase. I have protein drink for breakfast, instant cream of wheat alternating apple sauce, pudding and soup for lunch and dinner I'm lucky to do 2 1/4 tsp. I use the pudding to take meds it slides down easier. The one thing I miss the most is drinking as much fluid as you want at one time. For further down the road has anyone tried making ice cream out of protein shakes. This might be a TMI but baby wipes for cleaning your bum is a blessing. Get the flushable ones. God Bless Kelly -
OMG Whats that smell?!?!?!
renee replied to w106fox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TMI alert!!! I prepared my husband for the smells before I had surgery and I'm a month post-op now. Incredibly, my poop never smells. I'm totally serious. I mean it smells a little, of course, but its nothing. I don't get it. Before surgery it was way grosser than it is now. I wonder why? -
Nausea and vomiting after 1 month VSG post op
xogipsy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Guys, I have a question ? So I am exactly one month post op and lately everything I get and drink makes me nauseous and sometimes or most times causes some vomiting. I am on the mushy/purée stage right now and I'm ALWAYS hungry. I am eating anywhere between 3-4 ounces of food. I am satisfied for a little bit but then I get super hungry again. I am almost afraid to eat cause I'm scared to vomit or feel nauseous. My question is did anybody else experience this. If so how long does it last and how can I prevent it ? I don't have an appointment with my surgeon for another week so I'm desperate for some help ! Lol also I know this may be TMI but my vomit is like a clear salvia with little chunks/pieces of food . Did you have a foley catheter? I know this is TMI, but I am afraid that I may have my menses by Tuesday (surgery day). Perfect timing, right??
