I would like to challenge everyone to think about weight differently. Not in pounds and kg, but something different, some other measurement of weight. This is the site I used for weight conversions, and I find it facinating. (but I'm a geek, so there you go) http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_all.htm What got me thinking about this was a converstaion on the official Turtle thread, Slow Losers Unite. We were talking about how easy it is to discount NSVs because they are not a socitial approved measure of success, like pound on the scale are. But pounds are just as arbirary a unit of measure as kegs and stones and Kg and firkins and pfunds and atomic mass. They are conventions that we have agreed to judge ourselves and others by. Arbitrary as they may be, we give them power they do not deserve. This is why I always list my weight in some weird other unit of measurement. To attmpt to take power away from the scale, to take power away from the scale. And if I can take it away from the external, I can reclaim it for myself. I know that this isn't an issue for many of our celibrated Rabbits. But maybe it is. Maybe Rabbits are devistated when the scale doesn't move at the rate they are used to. Maybe Rabbits are hit harder by plateaus. I don't know these things, but I suspect that it might hit you harder than The Turtle Tribe because if we don't lose our 4 ounce a week, well, it's hard to tell. But if ya'll are used to losing 3 pounds a week, and some of our Rabbits do lose like that, a week where you don't lose must be really hard. I know that think women are hit very hard by body dysmorrphia, that they stress just as much, if not more so, than those of who who are zaftig. So anyway, I would like to invite everyone to challenge the way the view weight. Change your weight to cloves, or dynes or even your atomic weight.

I've always wanted to go skydiving, but have been over the permissable weight since I've been old enough. Well, I turned 30 on Saturday and for my birthday I went skydiving! It was amazing! Now I just need to figure out how to convince my head that I am at a more normal weight. When they had me step on the scale I was convinced it would read out heavier than I am. Then, when I went to put on the jump suit I really didn't think it would fit... But it all did and I had a BLAST (and survived ) Anyway - just had to share! ~Lori

And it didn't take an amazing amount of effort to swing my leg over my other. It didn't feel like my legs were going numb for holding them in that position. It was amazing and made me feel like such a "normal" woman.

How awesome..... Good for you. Hope that this is the first of MANY NSV's !!!!!!!!!! -
P'Nut....I am so thrilled and in awe of your accomplishments...you are a friend to everyone here and always offer a shoulder to cry on or are ready with a much-needed chuckle.... NSVs are awesome --- realizing life changes before our eyes is terrific and exciting -- I've noticed I am still totally ready to walk when my 15 minutes are up on the treadmill....I've noticed that when I sat in a chair with little side arms that my butt does NOT stick out the sides anymore....and I've noticed that my jeans now have SPACE in the front and the back! Congrats P'Nut! Thank you for sharing your excitement with us!

I was wearing size 18 women's jeans before surgery. I easily wore size 14 jeans today!! I decided to try them on cause my others were getting too loose to wear, fully expecting them not to button. Excited!! Haven't been able to wear them in several years.

Carol, I am proud of you for hanging in there and not getting discouraged, not reverting to your pre-band ways. That is a huge NSV!!!! Mimi

Ohhhhhhhh I remember those all so clearly. I had serious doubts...... most of them because I was head strong and successful on the pre-op weight loss so I started to think I didn't need the band and that I could just continue being strong by myself........ then I just kept telling myself that I was fooling myself.....I have been trying to get this weight off for 30 years....I was done doing the up and down, I was tired of lying to myself, I was ready to make a very positive commitment to myself..... I thought either I can sit here and yo yo diet for another 10 years and run into more serious health issues or just do it....... be proud of a courageous opportunity and jump into it....... it really helped me to stay in tune with these forums.... it helped me keep my excitement up to look at before and after pictures, to read of weight loss success, to hear all the NSV's........... it was and still is very exciting to know that I can do it too..... now that i'm post-op I'm still a little scared sometimes that I just made such a drastic step..... but it's quickly smashed when I jump on the scale and see it going down..... safely, healthy, and steadily...... I told myself I will commit a year 100% to this...... I think in a years time we will all be in celebration mode and very thankful we did this.

That's the best NSV of all. Best wishes with the rest of your journey.

My first NSV! My labs came back and the doc said they are all well within normal range. I am so excited because one of the reasons I had this surgery was my high lab tests and fear that any moment I'd be diabetic, have a heart attack or worse. Woooohoooooo! :clap2:

My hubby, who was not supportive of the surgery, has been a sweetheart. He just got me an ipad 2 as a gift for my first 25lbs. I am loving it all, the attention, the weight loss and the ipad 2 of course!!

Who here has enjoyed the NSV of closet-shopping? I tried on some coats and suits that I had purchased on clearance a while back as "mini-goal" clothes and they fit great! They all still had the tags on them. They were great deals (like an Anne Klein suit coat and a pretty winter coat that makes me glad we still have snow here, actually). When I bought them, it seemed like just a dream that I might be able to wear them someday. I lost 20 lbs during a 6-month pre-op period and 20 lbs (as of today) since my VSG in early Feb. I am thinking for a couple of the better pieces, when I lose more I might actually get them tailored so I can wear a while longer. Has anyone else done this? What fun outfits have you found lately in your own closet?

dont get me wrong i am grateful for having the procedure. but there are moments i am so down. i have NSV and scale loss but just not enough even though im averging 2lbs a week. i might have to get off this foroum because i see ppl with larger amounts dropping and it is kind of upsetting to me makes me ask why am i not losing as fast. i am scared to wieght train because the scale will go up more and that will only freak me out. smh. i have good days where i am so happy and gitty and then there are these days where i dont feel progress. my daughter fussed at me and said mom you are you and just because someone is losing more dont mean you are doing bad. maybe i need to speak to my nut again and have her tell me again how im expected to lose 30lbs the first 3 months and i did in 2 months. so i guess i can look at it like in another 3 months i will lose another 30 which will put me an 60lbs in 6 months. ( light bulb over my head) lol. ok im breathing now lol

Thanks! I am so relieved. It's pretty scary to get back lab tests, including stress tests, that say you are on the downward slope...so now I want to get off all my meds...that's my second NSV goal!

Non scale victory at Disney World!
JenWis6 replied to Disney Nut's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations!! That is such an exciting NSV to achieve. Sounds like it was a vacation to remember. -
Kristi, stop thinking of this in terms of dollars to pounds. That is a loosing proposition. Start tracking your NSVs. You spent that money to get your health back (nag nag nag).

Start dieting before surgery?
joatsaint replied to Missbliss14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't say how close you are to your surgery date? But 2 things I would start doing right now, to make things easier. 1) Up your Protein to carbs ratio - shoot for 75% of your calories from lean protein sources - chicken, pork loin, turkey, 93% lean hamburger. And add more vegetables to your diet - broccoli, califlower, brussel sprouts.... you get the idea. :-) 2) Start a walking program. If you are like me, I had lots of pain in my feet and knees. I had to start gradually (as in, I started parking at the far end of the parking lot each time I went to the store or work) I started out walking 4 laps around the interior of my office each morning and worked my way up. Hope these tips help, Keep taking small important steps, they will all add up to bigger success. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blogs/entry/31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/ -
I am so happy for you! NSV are the greatest! (although the scale doesn't lie) here's hoping for many more!

FridayI had some friends over for a day at the pool. My day started off with me cleaning my house and getting things ready for them to come over. That included replanting a tree and some other heavy lifting type things. I cooked dinner that night for all of us. OK, so what was my non-scale victory? Well, in the past, my back would have been absolutely killing me by the end of the day. I was in a minor car accident a few years ago that did a number on my back. Several months ago, I would have been taking pain medicine and muscle relaxers just to get to sleep after a day like that. The pain would have been all over my face. But, I realized by the end of the night Friday that I was 100% pain free! I love my band!
