  1. Hi!!!! I’m on day 4 of liquids and it gets a little better everyday. That being said I’m still struggling. I’ve been having some strained soups per my surgeons list, and have been picking at a few pieces of chicken/veg. How bad is it that I’m technically cheating? Any other tips to make this better lol? And does it get better post op? I have two more weeks of liquids after surgery (RNY on 8/7)
  2. Hey everyone, I am 2 weeks post op for the SADI-S and had an egg for my first food after clear liquids. I am now back to liquids. After the egg for 2 hours I felt like I was trying to burp and swallow at the same time and it was fighting to go down. Felt horrible. I don't want to eat after that experience and am glad to be back to clear liquids. It felt like when you eat too fast. Anyone else have this and when will it go away?

    Constipation 😭😭

I practice eating a couple prunes every day, I think it helps keep everything moving. But yes the couple weeks after surgery are tough, and really tough stool and constipation, to be expected by all. But once you start eating solid foods again, it becomes normal once again. Still you have to think you are eating so much less than you used to. So if you want to stay on a regular schedule. I recommend prunes if you like eating them, and benefiber or something similar if you wanna add another supplement.
  4. Hi all, Im Dave and I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve on Aug 17th in the Kansas City, MO area. I start the liquid diet next Thursday the 10th. My insurance made me go through the 3 months worth of appointments prior to scheduling, so I feel like I am pretty well informed and ready to go. Best of luck to everyone in the waiting pool!

    EXCITED!

Just a lil rave... As of this morning, I am officially down my first 50 lbs! I had a 3-week stall 2 weeks after my surgery. I had issues with my skin, with constipation, and this horrible stall. Because it's a revision, my weight loss is incredibly s-l-o-w (compared to virgin surgeries). I was so disappointed, having buyer's remorse, and all that. I've only lost 20 lbs in 45 days, but altogether (including my pre-op dieting) it's 50 whole pounds since May 11th!

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I weighed myself everyday the first month after my surgery. Now I just weigh myself Sunday to start the week and Wednesday to make sure I am on track.
  7. I will agree with logging what you are eating and reviewing that. I have not myself gained, but when I felt I didn't loose enough in a week, I realized I was either short on protein or water those days. Also exercising will change your weight on the scale as you retain liquid for muscle recovery.

    Perimenopause & RNY warning

I'm 40, and my mother went through menopause very young so I assume that I probably will as well. I guess that qualifies me as "perimenopausal". I already had heavy periods because of uterine fibroids, but it seems like menstruating REALLY depletes me now, mostly because I am anemic (and have had to do iron infusions because of it). I also miss my period pretty regularly; I'm fairly sure my body wants me to weigh 100 pounds before I get my period at all, and I fluctuate between 95 and 100. Considering that 94 is the threshold for "underweight" for my height and I am most definitely carrying around at least a few pounds of extra skin, I need to weigh 100 or so. I don't know how much of it is early-stage menopause and how much of it is my weight being borderline-too-low, but my period doesn't come every month. I have to go out of my way to get enough iron during that time, when I do get my period. I eat a lot of shellfish and pumpkin seeds that week, both of which are CRAZY HIGH in iron...Kroger has a frozen package of mussels in white wine garlic sauce and I will make half a package, 25% of your iron in one sitting! Within reason, it's actually helpful to indulge a little during those days, have a couple squares of dark chocolate or some oysters. Your body is working hard to replace the blood you're losing.
  9. Thanks do you think it’s to late if I have messed up. I fear I have stretched out my stomach I know it’s only been 3 months but I never thought I have any weight gain especially not this early. However it wasn’t the same scale but I know my clothes fit a little snugger then the week before. I also was on birth control that gave me crazy side affects

    Perimenopause & RNY warning

I haven't heard of anything that extreme, but yes, screwed up menstrual cycles are pretty common for the first few weeks or months after surgery. Sorry you went through that!

    Is it just me or…

Post op, this hit me hard. I considered it part of mourning food but it still concerned me even though I heard about it. Thankfully, it does go away over time as your body adjusts. Your body physically, and mentally are going through a lot and hits you all at once. Gradually you get used to the new way of seeing food, eating food and it does get easier. But man those first weeks are hard. I seriously missed the enjoyment of chewing food and eating the large quantities along with the glorious tastes This is part of the addiction and, as the mind resets, and you set new habits, it does diminish. I am five months out, and now see food as fuel. I still get enjoyment from the taste, but the restriction has now created a new habit of getting joy from a smaller amount. Before surgery I used to stuff myself each meal. Now I hit my restriction and find it easier to just stop and be happy. Hang in there, stick to your plan using your training from your program.

    Constipation 😭😭

Oh yeah the constipation. I swear I never thought about, read about, wrote about, talked about constipation as much as I did for the first years after surgery. You can add some Benefibre to your shake to help with the constipation. Ensure you’re getting in your fluids or are close to your goal. And as @catwoman7 suggested a stool softener or other laxative medication. Start with a gentle one & see how you go. But it’s too be expected that you don’t need to go every day in the first months. You’re not eating a lot & therefore don’t have that much to poop out. Your weight loss is never consistent @Siberian1. If you graph it you’ll notice it goes up & down, zigs & zags, & sometimes is a straight line. This is just how it goes. A lot of factors influence your weight from fluid retention, pooping or not pooping, hormones, drinking a little more or a little less, etc. As long as your general trend is downwards you’re doing okay. If the numbers on the scale are messing with you step away from the scales. Weigh yourself once a week or fortnight or even monthly.

    Friends…

It'll be over before you know it. The early weeks can be a challenge, but it's a drop in the ocean time wise. Just distract yourself with everything you can to get your head off food.
  16. I recommend logging every that you eat, specifically calories. If you do, then what does it look like comparing the two months? When I get frustrated because of weight gain, for example water weight, I am aware that I can easily fall into the old habit of feeling defeated. Now I look at my calorie intake and determine whether it is real or just water weight. It is a way not only to make sure the weight will continue to come off (or maintenance in my case), but also, keep me sane from self-defeating feelings. and actions that usually follow Like if I am eating 1300 calories according to my journal, week to week, and one day I gain 5 lbs., I know there is no way that the 5 lbs. I gained is fat and it must be water weight. So it gives me guidance, accountability and more importantly, peace of mind.
  17. My surgeon had me on liquid diet for two weeks then 2 weeks of Puree and the stages three which I’m on now soft diet until October and then regular diet. And I keep look at these incision like ain’t no way they took my stomach out these little wholes I wish they would of woke me up and showed me! July 2023 buddies

Welcome! I am 8 days post op. One day after surgery I stepped on the scale to see I had gained 9 lbs. I knew it was from the IV fluids, but it's not fun to see. One week later I've lost that and more. Hang in there. Did they instruct you on a clear liquid diet in these early days/weeks? I encourage you to talk to your doctor and team. All the best! 😊
  19. So I'm currently creating my grocery list for next week when I land on soft foods, and I was curious when do I get to eat mushrooms? As that's one of my favorite vegetables and I see that they're bariatic safe online but nothing that says when I can eat them. I'm also curious about chicken/turkey wings, as I have an air fryer I figured that'll be an easy way to have a "fried" fixing since I can do up the skin perfectly crisp. Is that okay too at the soft stage?
  20. Hey all, Just wanted to get a heads up out to those who are perimenopausal. I’m 54 yo and I’ve lost almost 70 lbs since I started WLS inquiry. At 3 month check up I was in the middle of a very heavy and unexpected period, feeling lightheaded and sluggish though alert. But 3 weeks of heavy period landed me in ER with very low BP and diagnosis of severe anemia. I’m on the slow boat to regaining healthy blood pressure/volume by taking it easy and iron supplements - though no transfusion. The doctor thought the very quick drop in estrogen (stored in fat cells) may have contributed to the heavy period, resulting in blood loss. If anyone has experienced strange periods (I was basically almost at 1 yr mark for not having period) I’d be interested in your story. Thanks much!

    Constipation 😭😭

Here is a question for everyone who has had this procedure done? I am two weeks out of surgery and I think I’m getting a little paranoid and I’m starting to look at the scale and for the last two days I haven’t seen any weight loss but I will have nothing but liquid diet. Is this normal
  22. 😁Newbie here as well and I just started my liquid diet on Monday. I’m on day 3 and can say that it has been less of a hangry day than the first 2 days for me. I’m usually a night snacker so that time has been the hardest, and chewing jello only does so much for me. 11 more days for me until my surgery. Stay strong over there!
  23. Lol right like let me happy for the moment while my body trying to figure this thing out. I thought smaller stomach less food loose weight. Mannnnnn that’s not how it’s playing out like gheesh this a whole math class measurement walking no drinking and eating what did I sign up for lol! I jus want to skinny for my bday lol! How much have u lost so far I stop at 18 de say on there scale but mine said 24lbs I would like to think I paid more for them little lbs I’m ab to go back to liquid diet. Bc stage 3 ain’t my friend. But wait u said u doing junk food aren’t u on Puree stage?
  24. You sound so much like me .... LOL I'm 2 months out and I've been stalled for 3 weeks.... ugh. I keep thinking ,hey- as long as I'm not losing or gaining-maybe I can pig out on junk food while my body is deciding what to do.
  25. How is your weight going now I was doing good until I got 3 months then my scale started going in the wrong direction lol I was like give me my stomach back if y’all gone act like this. I’m so frustrated and I seem to never be full for longer than 30 mins
