Im still on my post op liquid diet too, i feel fuller when I have drinkable yogurt, and when i take fresh fruit and throw it in the juicer... It doesnt make me feel completely full but it keeps me content

Good question, I was sleeved on the 17 and during my liquid diet I only had regular pudding, but light yogurt. Now after surgery the yogurt is so nasty and I think it is making me sick. I sent my daughter father to go and get me some regular yogurt today and ice pops. I just can't stomach that artificial sugar anymore. Plus I hear it isn't really good for you.

Maybe try unflavored protein powder (Unjury.com has some in individual packets you could try) added to some broth. I have been enjoying a puréed black bean soup (2 cans) made with onions (diced), a little jalapeño pepper 1 tblsp diced), 6 cups low sodium chicken broth, 1 can diced tomatoes and spices (chili powder, oregano paprika cumin. ). I serve it topped with shredded cheddar cheese. Yum. Lots of fiber and protein. Also I enjoy plain low sugar Greek yogurt. If you don't like sugar substitutes you can use puréed fruit like peaches or banana to sweeten.

3 week post op intake issue
Arabesque replied to Dee.Lams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes it is difficult to find foods you enjoy eating at this stage. Your changed taste buds & the texture of some purées make eating unpleasant. Some things are just plain disgusting. I ate a lot of soups during this stage with shakes - usually a 1/2 cup of soup & a shake each day - sipping slowly over the day. My doctor & dietician wasn’t concerned about minimum protein levels at this stage. That changed once I got into the soft food stage. Try to purée a poached chicken breast with chicken stock & gravy. I also puréed mince & vegetables (cooked for ages). Scrambled eggs, mashed boiled egg, very mushy rolled oats & yogurts also worked for me. Good luck. -

Last week surgeries
BostonRiley replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on February 19th. I have no pain but I am uncomfortable! My stomach gurgles but I don’t know if that means I’m hungry or if it’s gas. I’m trying to get in all the liquids I can, I all of a sudden don’t like jello (I loved it before surgery). I’d love to try protein shakes, yogurt or thinned out oatmeal but I’m only 4 days post op. I have no energy so I lay or sit around with added walking inside the house. My butt actually hurts from laying/sitting so much. Before surgery I wore glasses all the time since surgery everything is blurring when I wear them. I asked about it in the hospital before I was discharged, was told that it should go away as it could be from the anesthesia. -
Well from what I am reading so far, I'm the 'Flexitarian'. I have not eaten red meat in such a while that I am afraid that if I did now, I would be sick. I really don't miss it. I go by McDonald's on my way to work each morning and would actually like to get a fish sandwich or a fruit/yogurt cup. I'll stay in the 'Flexitarian'. Thank you all for your comments, much appreciated

Good Sources of Carbs
SummerTimeGirl replied to GummyBearQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on soft stage too. Mine seem to come from chili w/beans, my greek non fat yogurt, cottage cheese doubles, and unsweetened applesauce thus far. But I'm still under 30 most days too. -
Sweets and high fat don't make every person sick after the surgery, and most of the time it is a short term effect for those that do get sick from them. I couldn't touch high sugar for about 6 months, but guess what? That effect wore off and I could eat anything now with no serious repercussions other than gaining weight. I know that, so I don't eat crap foods all the time. I do eat stuff like a cupcake or a cookie for special occasions, but I plan out my day so I know I have room in my calorie count and I eat healthy 90% of the time, so eating something "bad" occasionally doesn't derail my whole life. Relearning how to eat healthy during the honeymoon period is what the surgery is really all about. You have to throw out everything you used to do and establish good eating habits while the restriction takes care of the portion control. That is what everyone is supposed to learn how to do during the honeymoon phase after surgery. It is really sad that the doctors don't explain this part better to every single patient before they have the surgery. If you don't do this, then the weight loss will happen in the beginning just because you're not able to eat as much, but likely will slow down sooner, and also regain is very likely once your metabolism adjusts in a year or two and all you still eat is crummy foods. Anyway. You definitely need to try doing the 5 day reset. It will help remind you how your stomach feels and feel the restriction again, and should help you detox from the sweets/crap food cravings - eating high carb usually makes you crave more carbs - it is a vicious cycle. You made some mistakes, but the sleeve is still there, ready for you once you're ready to recommit to eating correctly. You lost the best time to make fast and easy changes, but if you put in the work, you can still make it happen. But you have to be willing to do the work. Start tracking every bite of food and sip of drink. Get your Protein and Water goals figured out, keep your carbs low (under 100 definitely but if you can push it down to 50 grams/day that would be even better), and get your calories for the day down to around a 500 calorie less than you burn in a day. Throw out all the junk food in your house. Tell friends and family to not tempt you with foods like that and don't go places where you'll feel weak until you get control of yourself. Think of it like being an alcoholic or trying to quit smoking. You don't go places where you'll feel tempted and you ask friends/family to be supportive of your struggle and not offer you things you shouldn't be having, and do your best to remove the temptations from your path. Exercise - find something you enjoy doing and then do it a minimum of 5 days a week. Even if it's just walking a 2 miles around your neighborhood after dinner, it's something if you're currently doing nothing. What seems to work best food wise is whole foods, that you cook yourself. If it comes in a box or frozen package, it probably isn't a very good choice. Learn to read labels REALLY well, and figure out things like net carbs, sodium levels, etc., and check out both here and bariatric recipe sites like http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ Proteins should be the main part of each meal and every snack: things like fish, chicken, lean cuts of beef, cheese, yogurt, even Beans and lentils. Healthy vegetables - leafy greens, red peppers, squash, zucchini, avocados, broccoli, cauliflower... watch the ones that are high carb like corn and green peas as even healthy veggies can have high carbs sometimes and you need to be aware when you eat them. Should also be including healthy fats like coconut or olive oils and things like nuts or avocados have fat too, but it's a good fat (just watch the amounts and calories). Watch things like lunchmeat that are usually high sodium (again, read labels!) and be aware of times of day that you might be weak and have healthy Snacks on hand to prevent the quick stop at the drive thru or dropping by the office vending machine. MEASURE everything. You can't rely on eyeballing food amounts. Get a digital scale, and weigh your food so you get accurate calorie counts. It is way too easy to guess and over-estimate your food portions. And you might need to see a counselor that deals with eating disorders if you can't get control of your eating and get your head in the right space to succeed at this. Please don't take this as being mean, but worrying over what others did and comparing your lack of success while eating bad foods isn't helpful or realistic. But here's the thing. You aren't a failure unless you give up completely. Don't give up, and you will succeed.

Izuri replied to JentryB2020's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have 7 days full liquids, then 7 of soft foods, then 14 of puree, then regular. So far with liquids I've been having : Yogurt, Jello, broth, strained creamy Soups, homemade pudding Soft foods I'm looking forward to definitely includes scrambled eggs. I think I could eat eggs for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner =p -
I make my own last night I did grilled chicken, apples, pralein pecans, blue cheese, spring mix with simply fresh pomagranet dressing. I also love a homemade ranch made with 1cup plain Greek yogurt 1/2cup milk 1package ranch mix (salde dressing not dip) and mix let it sit over night. I dip veggies in it or put on baked potato it ups the protien. Ohhh and do you ever go to Los hermanos? They have the best chicken tortilla soup I buy a quart and eat on it all week.

making a bad mistake
Bergdorfblonde replied to maddog2005's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont beat yourself up for what you did in the past. Throw out any bad food in your house and only buy food that is on your diet. If you only have that food around you (sugar free pudding, coolaid, yogurt) then you wont be tempted to go for the fried rice. You cant control the past. Forgive yourself and move on. Try to get the temptation out of the house by only having the food you are supposed to eat around. When you go out, plan about what you can buy on the road that will be healthy. Go to Starbucks and get a caffeine free latte or herbal tea. Get chicken soup if you go out and tell them you just want the broth. You can do this! You are a strong person and have the power to do well on this. It will be ok. -
5 days post op VSG- horrible experience
kristennicole19 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5 days post op today from the sleeve. I had a horrible experience and wanted to share to see if anyone else had the same experience. Surgery Day- I woke up after surgery, I was shivering so bad and I was in severe pain at my stomach site. Day 1 post op- there was 1 day I was in the hospital and I slept most of this day as I was in severe pain. Did not drink anything Day 2- i again was not able to eat or drink anything. I got released from the hospital, went home and felt horrible. I could not keep anything down. I was throwing up from the medicine and had a fever. So we went back to the hospital where they readmitted me. Day 3- I was in severe pain again, and dry heaving since I had nothing in my system to throw up. I was only able to drink about 4 or 5 oz of water. I wanted nothing to do with the crystal light or the broth the hospital gave me. Day 4- I thankfully was able to drink some more water today, around 18oz. Finally was released late afternoon. Still feeling sore but a little better Day 5- I am feeling better, not as sore but the gas pains are still a huge factor and painful!!! I was able to manage about 20oz or so of water, I did not have any broth or any other clear liquids. I did have one small spoon of Greek yogurt. I hope this process gets easier!!! Let me know if you guys had any complications and how you overcame them!! -
Cottage cheese ?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kaysunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure what you mean about without a NUT. Do you have a written post-op food plan? For my program, cottage cheese and yogurt were included in my full liquid phase. -
Non Protein Shake Ideas For Lots Of Protein
4ALongerLife replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in Food and Nutrition
How far out are you? I remember your beautiful picture whenever I first started coming here, or not long after, so I believe you are in "full" mode (regular foods). If so, then I suggest......... Ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, laughing cow blue cheese wedges (or other varieties), greek yogurt, beef Jerky, pork rinds, shrimp, canadian bacon, eggs, fish, any meat (but watch your fat - that's why I can't eat too much avocado, fat makes me sick.. God didn't hear me correctly obviously because I had wished for it to have been sweets, sigh), ohhh and there is something you can add to Soups to make it higher in Protein. Grr it's on the tip of my tongue.... I am thinking TMP or TPV or something. Grr. I'll have to find it. I generally eat shrimp as a snack or canadian bacon or even turkey bacon here and there. Sometimes for lunch, sometimes for a snack. Greek yogurt - I buy plain then I get sugar free torani syrup and make my own mixture. Saves 50-90 calories extra that's in the good mixed up stuff (i.e. Dannon greek black cherry yogurt for example). You can always add Protein Powder into some of the things you are making as well. So if you are craving something sweet, perhaps make some sugar free Jello with unjury powder mixed in it. I say some though as it depends on the temperature of what you are cooking too. But if you focus on real meat as an intake, you will get your protein level up. A good "rule" that I live by is to "protein load" in the morning so that I'm less hungry throughout the day. Of course, for me lately that's been 2-3 slices of turkey bacon (we use the butterball kind and it's super thin) but it's enough to make me full until 10 or 11, at which time usually eat an egg and either a small piece of fish or a few shrimp with just a bit of veggies for my meal. If not in "full" mode yet, many of the items I suggested work for soft foods. Clears, I did the ready to drink Cytosport whey isolate drinks and I adored them. Now I just eat "real" protein sources like some of what I've suggested above. I am also a recipe hound, always looking for something different to try so that I don't get too bored with what I'm currently eating. Idk if any of that helps, but I surely hope so! I'm also on myfitnesspal and my journals are public if you want to add me, please do. Best of luck to you always. -
Non Protein Shake Ideas For Lots Of Protein

Plain greek yogurt mixed with a bit of MIO drink mix is tasty & an excellent source of protein. I also like low-fat cottage cheese. These are both easy for me to tolerate. -
Liquids Post Op 5 Days
edpsych78 replied to Gelica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, jncvt123, each day is different. Today I'm having a lot of cramping so I've had to cut back on the oatmeal, applesauce, yogurt, etc. and focus on the protein and liquids. The gas has been horrible today, too. Gas-x strips and lots of walking are helping. Last night watching TV with my family I was feeling hungry but realized it wasn't physical hunger...head hunger instead. That's a new thing for me so I'll be working on that for a while I'm sure. Hang in there -we've got this!!!!! -

I'm going back to work tomorrow. Im a hairdresser, & im gonna try to work 4hrs for 4 days this week. I'm so nervous about it, I'm sticking to shakes while there, & try my newer 'mushy foods' list @ home, in case it doesn't agree. I've tried instant mashed potatoes w/ garlic, salt, & pepper, & I Cant Believe It's Nor Butter. Far free refried beans w/a dollop of avacado & fat free sour cream. Sweet potato, laughing cow cheese & crackers. Yogurt & almond butter. Sugar free applesauce. Protein powder in sugar. Pureeing thicker soups. Hummus. Good luck! -

low calorie intake...bad?
thinoneday replied to Megan_SF's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I'm with Midwest Girl I used to love to gulp water all day long! I'd get over 100 oz down a day, then i got sleeved and guess what? Can't even get down the blinkin' 64 oz now. . . like Midwest, I add sf crystal light or SF welshes blended berry mix to the water. . . it's much better now and as long as i sip small amounts i do really well. . . i'm now at almost 60 oz at it's taken me about 3 1/2 weeks. . . keep trying it'll get better, I promise. . .I'm definately NOT allowed oatmeal or potatoes at all during the first 6 months . . doctor told me it would slow down the weight loss because of the amount of carbs. . . maybe don't eat those and substitute with something else. . I'm still on high protein foods, fatfree cottage cheese, fatfree ricotta cheese, fatfree string cheese, fatfree refried Beans, sf puddings, fatfree yogurt, fatfree mootopia milk, Protein shakes, very mushy tunafish and so on. . Next week i get to try extra lean ground hamburger meat and extra lean ground turkey, we'll see about that! Good luck, I hope it all settles down and you can carry on with your journey. . .
