  1. No i havent tried that, i have only had Atkins and EAS i bought unjury but i have to mix that with skim milk and i am only allowed 3 servings of a dairy that would wipe out my cottage cheese and or yogurt
  2. I had this problem, it does go away. It didn't matter if it was warm or cold liquid for me. It did matter if it was thick or thin liquid. I had a harder time with thin liquids. The only thin liquid I could have was frozen otter pops. The rest had to be yogurt drinks or thick juices like v8. Best wishes

Are you taking an antibiotic post op?I got thrush in my mouth post op but I was taking antibiotics for 10 days post op.Do get some meds for the thrush but start taking some sort of live culture (pills you can open and take directly on your tongue if you are not eating yet.)There is also drinking yogurt with live cultures in them that should help.
  4. Canadian, my fingers are crossed, good luck. Tommy!!! That's fantastic, 93 lbs, now that is encouraging for all of us. As for the ice cream, have you ever tried frozen yogurt. My husband is a big ice cream fan and now he eats frozen yogurt. Chapman makes several flavors, my husband's favorite is cappacino with chocolat expresso flakes and for 1/2 a cup it's about 100 calories. lol about the laundry. What kind of football did you play? We are big Canadian football fans in this house and we have season tickets to the Montreal Alouettes. Go Als Go!

    Chicken Salad without Mayo

I replace all mayo based recipes with plain yogurt or sour cream. Sometimes if its really hot and I have a craving for chicken salad I will use fresh lemon and lime.

    Chicken Salad without Mayo

I use fat free ranch or lite vidalia onion sometimes. It's pretty good, but not as good as mayo in my opinion. I've also done low-fat plain yogurt with a chutney of some kind like mango. That's yummy!
  8. Hi Barbra, Good answer Tanya. I still have your bowl of Soup in the freezer. You didn't come to TOPS last night. Maybe next Tuesday. LOL Barb are you suppose to be doing 2 weeks liquids? I wouldn't do the chicken salad so soon but the egg salad is definately softer and will go down easier. Don't forget to take your drinks with you; Water, gatorade or crystal light. I bring Breakfast and lunch to work everyday. I bring or keep these things at work; cheese sticks, grapes, soup, yogurt, sf pudding, oatmeal, and always a Protein drink. I never want to get sick at work. Good Luck chew, chew, chew

    Thanksgiving Dilema

Tammy, if you can't do turkey, cut small, well-chewed, with a bit of gravy, are you too tight? Even a few tablespoons of stuffing with some gravy shoudl be possible for most. You are at 2.7cc? I'm planning on a very healthy Thanksgiving. A little bit of everything! Okay, my weight loss is slower but I can eat! Just lots less and still be satisfied. It just makes me wonder if you are too tight. Jack blends meat all the time with yogurt. I don't see why you couldn't blend some turkey, stuffing and gravy. Why not? Prolly looks gross but tastes great!

    Need help-support-advice on my diet

-My fluid intake is ok. Not getting 64-probably close, around 40-50. Not vomiting, but the other end was acting up I didn't think of that-maybe? It sure feels like I am in stage one or two. I absolutely hate Liquid Protein shakes, however, have not tried the GNC one you mentioned. I will look at those today and see where my GNC is. I have bodylogix currently, and they dissolve awful. I have to whir it in the blender with a banana then let it settle because the air upset s my stomach. I was doing one every other day, but if I had a better product, I would use it more often. Good point! I made a huge pot of turkey broth with veg last night. I was able to drink a cup of broth and no issues. I seem to be very sensitive to any sort of fat, salt, garlic-especially!! and onions. I need very bland food. Is that normal? Thanks! I use MFP as well I guess I need to slow down and go back t othe basics and give myself more time to heal. Thanks for your advice! So it sounds like I am just pushing it too much, which is probably true. I take a multi-Vitamin and was taking B vitamin, however, cannot tolerate it right now. I love greek yogurt but even that feels like it gets stuck-I have had to water it down. But going back to the soft sounds like a great idea and start, and reminding myself that I need to heal and sickness probably made it worse...thanks for the help!

    Need help-support-advice on my diet

Are you doing any Protein shakes for meal replacement? Are you getting 64oz or more of fluids per day (Protein Shakes count)? Do you take Multivitamins - chewable, liquid, sublingual, or other? I would highly encourage talking to your doctor or nutritionist for their advice. Fluids are very important, especially if you are ill or fighting a cold/flu. unjury makes a great chicken Soup flavored protein mix you can put in Water or broth, Healthwise makes tomato and beef flavors. The aversion to the amount of food is very normal for being a month out, it will get better. The indigestion feeling might be eating too quickly and/or not chewing your food enough. Yes, even mashed potatoes deserve some time in the mouth being "mushed" with the digestive enzymes in your saliva before being swallowed. At one month out, I did a lot of avocado, greek yogurt (plain, 2%) adding my own raspberries for sweetness. Softer foods, not as much solid - that took longer to incorporate.

    Dec. 5th surgery date

Welcome Cheri, and congrats on the positive decision you have made for yourself! Like NJ Chick said this is not just to look better, it is to BE better and to have a better quality of life for you AND your kids. As already mentioned, every Dr had different reccomendations regarding diet. I had some good advice before my surgery and that was (for the last 2 weeks) live as if I was banded -- I walked alot, drank tons of water, gave up caffeine and soda, and aside from a few "last suppers" ate a soft, bland diet (eggs, cream of wheat, yogurt, cottage cheese etc). It helped me get ready both physically as well as mentally for the changes that were to come. That way when my surgery rolled around I wasn't in for such a huge culture shock at the same time as trying to heal and deal with all the emotional changes going on. Everyone's recovery is different. I am in shock to hear about people going home from hospital the same day -- I stayed most of 2 days after. I also took a week off work, and if I worked full time would have had to take more as I needed to nap in the afternoon for several weeks after. Surgery affects everyone differently and I wish you a great recovery. As far as needing help around the house I say if you have people offering -- take it!! It can only help you recover faster, the less you HAVE to do! Best wishes!
  15. I am 4 weeks out and am wondering why I get hungry so soon after I eat. If I eat a yogurt, I will be full but within an hour or hour and half, I am hungry and my stomach is growling. Can anyone clue me in on this?

    Teachers

When I have stress ( working with preschool teachers, parents, and the kids are the easy ones!) you bet my band gets tight! I then have to think about my diet choices. Often deli neat and cheese slices, soup, cottage cheese with yogurt, etc. really can range on tightness of my band each day...I'm 18 months banded.

I have vanilla hiney Greek yogurt with cottage cheese when band is tight.
  18. I am 7 days post op and honestly the day of surgery was the worst for me. The gas pains in my back and chest were awful and I dry heaved twice I believe. But by the next day I was noticeably feeling MUCH better. And YES, walking does make a HUGE difference! Days following the surgery consisted of sipping, walking, resting and not at all being hungry. Which was very weird to not be hungry. By day 6 though, I do believe I was feeling true hunger pains and it was the day to start full liquids anyways so I had a little bit of greek yogurt and it went away. So all in all, I think i was one the lucky ones that really didn't have too many issues at all after surgery and continue to not really have any issues. This was the best decisions of my life. I've lost 17 lbs so far from preop & postop so I'm quite happy with that. Good luck!

    Thanksgiving!!

We're bring Thanksgiving to my Dad's house, so it'll be just the three of us. *Roast a small turkey at home. Cut it up and divide dark and white meat. White for me. *Oven roasted Butternut Squash. *Stuffing (which I don't eat). *Cranberry sauce (just a teeny bit for me). *Gravy (for the boys) I wanted to make my famous Key Lime Pie, or make some other fascinating dessert (to show off) but I need it to be something I can eat, so it'll be fresh fruit diced real small, and some sort of topping/mix in...I was thinking honey greek yogurt, or light Cool Whip. You got any ideas? I don't need the extra's, just want to make it more interesting for the boys. All of this I can take home for leftovers, or freezing. I don't know what I'll be drinking, as in the past I always drank cranberry juice. Oddly, I am very comfortable with the dinner/day...I don't have a big family to cook for, or children to please. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving!

    November 2015 Sleevers?

I was sleeved on November 10th and, between my four-week pre-op diet and post-surgery weight loss, I am down 102 lbs. I have been fortunate in that I have not really had any problems getting enough protein or water in each day. Based upon my nutritionist's recommendations and feedback on this forum, I aim for about 100 g of protein per day. Since I am only supposed to eat somewhere between 600-700 calories per day, that means that just about everything that I eat has to be pretty high in protein. My go-to foods are Greek yogurt, grilled chicken breast, grilled shrimp & scallops, turkey, with a couple of protein shakes per day thrown in. So far, so good.

    Protein

Try Click protein- they have vanilla latte and Mocha flavored, with skim milk- tastes like a iced latte. 15 grams protein. Also Greek Yogurt has like 17 grams of protein, I add a little splenda and some sugar free jam- can also put in blender with skim milk and make a smoothie. Another thing to try are sugarfree syrups like they use in coffee shops. My sister sent me a case of 6 different flavors for christmas( she had WLS in september) I add a little vanilla, or carmal to the protein shakes and it hides the preotein taste a little more. Some of the soup flavors are better then the sweet protein powder in the begining I found too. good luck!

    Where to start

I don't know your stats but 800 calories a day doesn't seem too high to me. Unless you're really tiny and inactive, you should be able to lose on that amount. I mostly eat mini-meals throughout the day. I start eating at about 6 AM when I have coffee before work and I eat every 2-3 hours or so until about 6-7 PM (like maybe 6 AM, 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM and 6-7 PM). I'm naturally more hungry in the daytime and not so much at night, so I don't usually need to eat at night. It looks something like this: 1. 6 AM: Morning latte (made with Kitu Super coffee, 10g or Protein and no sugar) 2. 8 AM: 1 scrambled egg 3. 10 AM: Yogurt 4. 12 PM: 1 chicken thigh 5. 2 PM: sugar-free pudding 6. 4 PM: Lunch meat wrap made with Mission Carb Balance tortilla 8. 6-7 PM (Nighttime snack): cheese stick When I was still losing, I restricted carbs but not calories, so if I had a hungry day I might eat a little more or conversely I might have a low appetite day and eat less. I ate around 800 calories a day from 6 months through about 18 months, so I guess that's why it doesn't seem excessive to me. I did not have weekend treats while I was losing (although I did have special-occasion treats, like Christmas and my birthday). The more often you eat on-plan, the faster your weight loss, but you get to decide the balance between losing weight and enjoying life. Just be alert to how things affect you, so you can adjust if there is a problem.

    November 2015 Sleevers?

I def struggled with getting protein in and water but this week I found my rhythm. I drink a 27g protein shake with a tbl of Greek yogurt added in the am (so about 30gs). It also gives me 24oz of water, then I have animal protein at lunch & dinner which is usually about 20 more g's, I eat a 20 oz protein bar after workouts and more Greek tog before bed. I'm getting in about 70-80+ a day. As far as water... I do the am shake(24), then 2 40 oz of the pic below. Labeling my bottle has changed the game with my water intake for sure. Now I know exactly where I am anytime of the day. Also working out made my water intake soar!

    November 2015 Sleevers?

Thanks, @@bsilva! I definitely feel much better. I have a good distance left to go, but everything is already so much easier. Being 500+ lbs involves a lot of planning! It isn't much fun worry about things like can I park close enough to where I need to go?, how early do I have to leave for a meeting so as to not arrive sweaty and out of breath? I count Protein, carbs, fat, and calories using an iPhone app (mynetdiary). I am sufficiently nerdy that I like generating the charts of the nutrients that I take in and the pounds that I lose. I initially had trouble getting enough protein and staying within the calorie bounds. That is the place where using shakes as a supplement has been helpful for me. I start the day with one and then follow with a fat-free Greek yogurt a little bit later. That gets me to 42 g of protein pretty early in the day. From there, I try to eat something that gets me 20 g of protein for each of lunch and dinner. A second shake or a high-protein snack gets me close to 100 g protein goal. Honestly, I don't make it every day, but I never fall below 80 g of protein.

    Protein

Oh bless your heart! I hope everything starts to look up for you soon! I have been using GENEPRO Protein. Some folks were talking about it here, and stated that is was really odorless and tasteless. I decided to try it because the horrible sweet tastes of all the shakes/protein I had been using was about to make me just stop protein altogether. That was the best choice I had every made! I sent the info to my NUT and surgeon since it's a fairly new product and both of them approved it. It truly is completely tasteless. I mix it in everything; decaf coffee, V8, diluted juice, yogurt. It has been a life-saver for me. You can order if from Amazon, which is were I got it or from the company website which is Musclegen Research. Best of luck to you! Carol
