    hi

Do you still drink a lot of protein?, I can not eat chicken or turkey, it makes me sick
  2. It all started at the movie theatre on New Year's Eve. I ate my Protein bar, then some of my husband's popcorn, more popcorn, a few good and plenty, Dots. Then we went to a bar where I had a cocktail, half a cheeseburger and a few fries. When I got home I dug into my daughter's chocolate stash. First chocolate I've eaten in 8 months. It all a felt so familiar, this was old time diet sabotage! In the past I would have completely given up at this point, diet over. I was thinking of all the fattening things I could eat on New Year's because it would still be a holiday. Good news is I woke up and got right back on the horse so to speak and stuck to my eating plan all day without any crazy ideas popping into my head. I'm kinda glad the frick'n holidays are over.

    Magnesium Citrate?

It's because of the high protein. Our fiber is fairly low.

@keepmoving I was the same way.I became a member of this site October 2010 but didn't start posting until I was sure I was getting banded which was this year.I first went to success stories then complications and back again.I agree the energy here is Awesome.I really like the tough love posts when we start making excuses.people can get tough but u can feel the love in the writing and u know they want u to succeed. @Donna as of this post ur a little over a week on the liquid diet.I hope u got in the rhythm of it by now.it will be over soon.I hated it so much I have basically x's protein shakes out my diet ! Every blue moon I will have one if I just can't get breakfast.I may go back to them as part of a regular diet but right now I can't do it .Goodluck to u both !!

    pre-op diet

I was allowed Slim Fast Lo Carb and have recently found a canned drink called "Zoic" which has 80 less calories, less fat, less carbs, and more Protein than Slim Fast. I was also permitted anything sugar free, including fudgsicles--but each surgeon is different. Try this website to order what you decide to use (make sure to look for "free shipping"): Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, books, DVDs & more Best of luck to you!
  8. I'm currently on the puree'd foods. I am, as I think many of us are, very tired of whey protein. I can start on soft foods next Thursday. But things are going well. I am a bit more tired than I thought I would have been, but I find a nap during the day seems to perk me up. Prior to surgery, I was taking 17 different medications (metabolic syndrome) plus a shot twice a month; I am now taking 4 medications, plus the two shots. No high blood pressure, no heart angina, no osteoarthritis. So overall right now, feeling pretty great on top of it. I do have a question; while I am loosing steadily, once in a while I have a day where it goes up just a bit (about half-one pound). Am I doing something, or is this just one of the attempts of my body to find equilibrium with the weight loss? Thanks!

You can "doctor" up the Protein shakes with flavored sugar-free syrups (I.E. Torani or DaVinci), coffee crystals (like Folger's instant) and extracts. The first 2-3 days are the worst, then it becomes MUCH easier. I also like them with 1/2 fat-free milk, 1/2 Water and 5-6 ice cubes. Some like to put in a blender. I like to put in a "Blender Bottle" (WalMart has the best price I found on these) and shake really well. Who is your surgeon?

    Yogurt Dessert

I will try your idea with the sf puddings, yummy. Thanks for the idea, it helps me get Protein in since the only thing I'm eating now just two weeks after surgery is fish and canned chicken, well 2 and half weeks. My doc sent me home with a diet of first 24 hrs all liquid then mushies till this past Wed then regular food. I sometimes do a Protein shake for Breakfast if I don't do an egg. I can't wait to try your ideas.

    Nutrition

Try the water based protein drinks, like Isopure. I did not care for those but some people like them better than the shakes. Protein promotes healing and weight loss. It is important to find a way to get in the appropriate amount.

    going back to work

Do you have an option if it appears to be too much for you too soon? Do they know at work you had this done? I would begin the next stage of foods very carefully since you will also be changing your routine at the same time. Make sure to keep your Protein up, so you do not fatigue too easily. Good Luck! Kat

My story -- June 9th surgery

Little update... Landed back in the hospital Friday with pneumonia. Really think it's directly related to not being allowed to walk that first day. Still just pressure in the chest. At least now they are letting me roam the halls all I want. Should get out late tonight or Monday. Very easy to stay compliant when they're bring your Clear liquids on a tray. Even getting the hospital's bariatric Protein drink! When I was admitted Friday I was down 10 pounds from Mondays surgery weight. Probably in one-derland right now. Need to have them weigh me again! Lol

    Restriction Gone

I am 4 weeks out and can drink like no tomorrow...... I can eat some chicken/salmon - like 2oz and 2 green beans and I am stuffed..... Have you tried other proteins? How many ounces is 'a little chicken'?
  16. *I posted this in beginners but think this is the correct forum? Unsure* First of all, SO glad to have found this site. I had my gastric band op 10 days ago. The first week was excruciating in terms of trapped air, nausea, post op pain but now recovering well. I am currently on a liquid diet - concerned as I am supposed consuming liquid like soup, protein shakes, milk etc but have only been consuming water and tea. The first few days I had some yoghurt and soup but developed a repulsion i.e nausea to anything milk based. Prior to the op I purchased an lot of high protein milk based shakes just for this phase but have touched a single one. - Should I be worried? Especially with the emphasis placed on 'high protein' consumption? - When entering the soft food phase I plan on consuming tuna but the booklet given to me. post op says tuna is too 'lean' for soft food phase and should stick to 'soft fish'. Has anyone added tuna to soft food phase? Doesn tuna not count as 'soft food' ? Thanks so much in advance! https://www.bariatricpal.com/index.php?/topic/402146-10-days-post-op---a-few-questions-please%21/page__view__findpost__p__4516450
  17. Hey Banders . . . I am.post op Day4 & I just want to share a positive testimony on the LapBand. I was banded 8/29/13 & my experience has been Awesome! I have followed protocol to.the tee and has made Gas X and walking a must for at least a 1/2 hour a day, especially after drinking/eating . . . Have a great morning routine. I take my liquid vitamins, Mirilax stool softner, and antibiotics, all spaced out so that Im not all filled up with liquids, then I walk a bit to get it all going through allowing myself to burp and allow that full filling to subside. Then I go and get ready for the.day and by this time I am.ready to start a Protein Shake to.make sure I get that important protein in. But today for.lunch I wanted some soup and I used my Nutri Bullet to put in some homemade chicken.soup with all the fresh vegetables you can imagine and pureed the crap out of it and warmed it on the stove and maaann . . . It was Fabulous!! I thank God that my Nutri Bullet not only Helped me through my pre op diet but is now going to be used for the rest of my Lapband journey . . . Hope this has been a positive testament for someone!

    Too much protein and water?

That's great! I struggled to get in my 60g of protein the first few weeks, and still struggle with my liquids almost 8 weeks out...
  19. I'm 4 days post op and got in 3 protein shakes for a total of 84g protein and drank about 50oz water. Seems like too much according to what others have posted. Should I be concerned?

    Pre-op surgery weight gain??

You will lose some weight on the pre-op diet, you may not need to start the actual pre-op diet sooner, but it would be to your benefit to return to making better choices and eating less. Or if you need to go basic: lean proteins, low starch veges, legumes, seasonal fruit etc. But at the end of the day, do what is doable and sustainable for you.

10 days post op lap band

Hi sorry I don't have much advice as I'm only 3 days post op! I'm struggling with the fluids in the sense that I don't really want to put anything in so I'm forcing myself to drink as much as I can and I'm trying to have 1 soup per day I also haven't touched any of my protein shakes either but think I will have to I have no energy at all! I can't wait to start to soft food weeks although that is if my appetite is back as at the minute I don't feel hungry in the slightest. The pain in my left abdomen is still really bad and I'm finding it difficult to move around or stand up straight [emoji25] please tell me this will ease off in the next few days? X
  23. For the life of me I can't remember if my NUT told me to include Protein Drinks with my clear liquid diet the day before surgery. Did you do Protein Shakes the day before? To be on the safe side, I won't do them but I'm do annoyed that I can't remember!
  24. Clear liquids does not include milk or whey proteins. The only protein I was allowed in the 24 hours prior to surgery was Isopure. If you can't see through it, it's not clear.
  25. I'm 7 days out. I've been really good until today about getting in my protein and liquids. But today I just feel so blah... like I'm so over trying because it still hurts. I have bad heartburn that is not yet completely helped by Prilosec. It is better than it was the first 5 days but still hurts when I swallow. I'm just so friggin tired of forcing myself to hurt all the time by swallowing stuff. I'm hungry but I would rather just not swallow anything because it is so darn hard. I've got in about 20 grams of protein today and 245 calories according to myfitnesspal. Am I hurting myself too badly? I'm afraid of dehydration but it really is so hard to do right now. I've got in probably about 28 oz. of liquids today. I'm also afraid of ruining my metabolism by so few calories a day. Should I just keep forcing myself to swallow through the pain? It's so disheartening!
