  1. I had the same problem I was always regular with my periods then after I had the surgery and started to lose weight they became irregualer. I talked to my Dr about it and he told me it was normal. That it had to do with your hormones and the weight loss and not to worry about it.
  2. You need to go back to your doctor and find out why? If you are eating around 1000-1200 calories a day and exercising you should be losing weight? Sit down with your dietician and find out why it's not working. I did with mine and it made all the diffrence in my weight loss. tmf

Cherub - I have no advice for you as I am in the same boat (7mos post op and NO loss) but I must commend you for being 76 and knowing your way around a computer so well!! Please don't take this the wrong way... my parents are 60 and they are lucky to be able to check their email!! lol
  4. That's not a small NSV. It's HUGE!! I find myself taking pictures of myself now and I've never done that before. I take pics because I really like the outfit I have on, or because I like my hair that day. NEVER would have happened before. I'm thrilled that you're now in the family pictures! That's terrific for you and for them!!
  5. I just realized I'm half way to my goal. I want to lose a total of 90lbs and I've lost 45! Whoohoo! This is awesome! I'm 2.5 months post op. I know the weight loss will slow down but I'm on Target. I was hoping to be wearing cute sun dresses this summer and I think I will get to!! I love my Almanzo! Just like Laura Ingles! That's what I call my sleeve...Almanzo. lol, I'm a dork.

    I'm in my teens!!

I'm 219.8 today!! YAY FOR ME  I'm so happy the weight is coming off. I stopped counting calories and protein grams, stopped stressing so much about losing. I know I'm eating way healthier than I was before banding. I've decided not to watch what I eat as long as I feel good and my hair is not falling out. I'm eating when I'm hungry and only until I'm satisfied. I do reach for the protein first and take my vitamins. When I'm stressed and want to eat, I get a sugarfree popsicle or sugarfree Jello, usually can't eat all the Jello cup, but enough to make my brain happy. YAY again :tongue:
  7. I am having the same problem! I have been bouncing up and down the same 2 pounds for 2 weeks now. I get so depressed that I went through this ordeal and the loss has stopped already but I know deep down that it is just a stall and I WILL get losing again soon. It is hard to look on the bright side, but it is helpful to see that it happens to us all....guess misery loves company, right?
  8. I started out by going to a seminar. Then I called to start the process and was assigned a nurse navigator. Next I started my 6 month supervised weight loss with my family dr. At month 4, I turned in a big packet of information I had to fill out. Then I went in for an appt. with a therapist, nutritionist, and nurse. I had to pay a $300 fee at this time but they said it would cover me for the rest of my life whenever I wanted to meet with any of the above people. A couple of weeks after that I went in to meet with my surgeon. Just last week I completed my 6 month SWL with my dr and now waiting to have some testing done. They're doing an echocardiogram, spirometry (lungs), and some kind of test to check for blood clots in the legs. My dr. also did some lab work. After all that is turned in it's just a matter of scheduling the surgery, which they said shouldn't be long after that. When I started all this it seemed like a lot to do and so far away, but now that it is right around the corner, it seems like time went by pretty fast. Every dr. gives different guidelines, so just follow along with whatever they tell you. Good luck.

    Am i a failure?

No matter WHEN you go for that next fill, emphasize that you get hungy much quicker than in four hours, that you can eat quite a bit more than you were led to believe would be a satisfying meal and point out that your weight loss is pretty much stalled ... and tell them you NEED more than a 1cc fill to move you forward. Lots of docs don't want to do more than a 1cc fill, so you may be up against that mindset but push. Ask for AT LEAST 2 MORE CCS which would take you to 4. Probably not your sweet spot but I'm thinking if you get 2 ccs that's probably going to be a big concession on your doc's part. My first fill was 4 ccs on top of .6cc that was left in my band when they tested it in the operating room. That was too tight at the time and they removed 1cc. Then, a month later, took me right past that 3.6cc with no problem. At 5.8ccs and I've been at that point for a few weeks, I am at my sweet spot. For others it takes more than that. Our physical details are not all exactly the same, so what is enough for one, isn't enough for another and can be too much for a third person. So just work with it. When you get this next fill, make an appointment for as soon as they will let you have another fill. Better to have it on the books!
  10. @@PattyGirl24 You're young and athletic. Your skin and boobs may hold up okay. I also know that tummy tucks hold up well after weight loss, too. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Keep us posted!

Had a laugh lastnight. My 5 year old grandson was looking at portraits of our family before my kids were married. He recognized Papa, Uncle, and Mommy, but wanted to know who that woman was sitting next to Papa! I had blond hair, wore glasses and was about 70 lbs heavier then! He was not as amused as the rest of us were! I guess I have truly changed my looks as he did not know me. Woohoo for me! Karen
  13. My real weight loss did not "kick in" fully until I started exercising. I didn't in the beginning but the exercise changed my loss from small with lenghty plateaus in between to a steady weekly loss for the most part. This was with about 5 hours of exercise a week on average. For my body, I am sure that the band and eating habits probably got me 60% to goal . . . but I never could have closed the gap for the last 40% without exercising.
  14. I just hit Onederland this morning and now I'm faced with making a final goal. To those who are now on maintenance, how did you pick your final goal? Did you pick a final number and worked to hit that? Or did you just let your body do what it was going to do and once it stopped that was it? My goal was 175 but the weight loss has been so quick with no stalls or slow downs that I'm starting to think maybe I should go lower. But I can't imagine my body at less than 175. It seems so weird and foreign to me. So what do you think? What should I do? What did you do or what do you plan to do? Thanks!
  15. I am 24 days post op and still feeling very fatigued and achy. Since the beginning of this process (end of November) I have lost 43 pounds which is fantastic! But, I thought this weight loss success would make me feel better and more energetic. I am not able to eat much, two quarter size meatballs in tomato sauce and a quarter of a slice of fresh mozzarella cheese (for example), in one sitting; but I am trying very hard to get at least 40 grams of Protein in each day by supplementing with Protein shakes. Also, when I do eat, I get a very uncomfortable feeling in the base of my sternum (area). Almost like I have swallowed glass. This sensation makes me want to avoid food all together! This is my only source of support, so I really appreciate any feedback. Also, to be honest, I think I am mourning the loss of three of my favorite things: nutritious food, coffee and red wine. Life seems so dull - especially when I don't have any energy. Blah. One last question... as I progress on this journey, how do I update my stats?
  16. I was also banded in June and have lost 45 pounds since surgery. I too am kind of stuck right now. My weight has been bouncing around for the last 3 weeks instead of constant loss. Maybe this is normal? I guess our bodies are in shock at first and then it gets used to the much smaller amount of food? I suddenly can put down way more food than I should be able to. I am hoping that when I get a fill next week things will change. I'm watching my calories closer and hitting the gym hard! I signed myself up for Warrior Dash in April. Bring it! We can do this!!!!!!

    Hello, 1 week Post-Op

Melolo~ Way to go on the weight loss! Doesn't it feel good to be losing!
  18. I need a little advise. My parents are living their retirement dream and traveling in an RV. My husband and I took over their mortgage and live in their house. My parents return to the house every other month for doctor appointments for my mom. When they return they stay in the guest bedroom. Since my surgery my husband and I really try to eat healthier and stay active. However when my parents come to stay my mom brings in a lot of junk food. I'm not sure how to approach her about it. She will ask if I want something from the store and I will say no, and she buys it anyway. I know the adult thing to do is say don't bring junk food into our house, but it's my mom. I grew up respecting my parents and a part of me feels that this is still their house. My parents supported my decision for the surgery and are very proud of my weight loss. I have many conversations with her about eating healthier for her health and she still falls back into old habits of eating nothing but sweets. Help! How do I respect my mom, but also respect my new healthier life style.

    Losing my hair!!!

I'm almost 17 mos post op and 73 lbs down and I started losing hair immediately. I try to get my protein in but don't get nearly enough as stated above obviously. I do take biotin and some ppl on here have suggested to me Nioxin system but its expensive but neither promote new growth just healthy hair as told by my stylist and helps your current hair grow. I've just learned to live with mine as is and keep taking my biotin. The vitamins make me sick so I don't take them. Good luck.
  22. Hello everyone, My name is Bariatric852. I am a 28 year old female who has just undergone laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery earlier this month. I am coming up to three weeks post op on a full liquid diet. I am craving solid food so much - I miss chewing my food. I am actually looking forward to puréed food stage starting on the 27th of May. The various weight loss surgeries were initially brought up by a specialist in a sleep clinic dealing with my sleep apnea. This was nearly three years ago. During these years leading up to my surgery, I have seen a multitude of doctors and specialists. Psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, surgeons, dietitian, physiotherapist. A lot of professionals to see. I have quite a few health problems such as Clinical Depression, PCOS, Sleep Apnea, high blood pressure and Borderline Diabetes... The doctors gave careful consideration to all of the above and gave me the green light to go ahead with the surgery this year. I was given the choice of gastric sleeve or gastric bypass. I chose the bypass. My weight, at it’s heaviest was 155kg or 341.7lbs. In preparation for the surgery I had to lose 5-10% of my body weight. I managed to do this and my weight pre op was 125.5kg or 275.6lbs. Three weeks later and my current weight is 120.6kg or 265.9lbs. My family say I look a little thinner especial around my face. I know I have a long journey ahead of me. Life-long dietary supplements and antidepressants (21 pills a day). And a lot of hard work to be put in. But I look forward to seeing my weight drop and my body and mind becoming healthier.
  23. Just last week I am 2 years post-op and much like Kikiphiasmom I've lost a significant amount of weight but not at goal. It is interesting that you ask about feeling normal. That is one thing that I feel all the time and I love it. I went from a tight 3X on top and a tight 22 on bottom to a size L on top and a size 12 (sometimes 10 but 12's always fit) on bottom. So basically I'm the size of the "average" American woman and it's wonderful. I was never meant to be a skinny-minnie and the last time I weighed 120lbs I was probably 11 years old. It's so nice to walk into a closet full of clothing that fits me and I feel great in. No more stuffed sausage feeling that I used to have wearing my tight old clothes. But having the sleeve has given me the ability to lose a big chunk of weight and keep it off. I also struggle within a +10/-10lb range and right now I'm about 7-10 lbs higher than my lowest weight I hit this spring, so I'm working on being more consistent with my eating to get that back off. I feel 100% normal about my eating as it is very routine for me now. I still weigh and measure my food sometimes just to track it or keep in check. I eat betwen 1,000-1,500 calories a day and exercise 3-5 days a week. And I definitely could go lower (weight-wise) but it would require me to consume >800 calories a day or workout at LOT more and much more intensely than I do now. So basically I've been coasting along in maintenance mode for about the last year. I tell all newbies to take full-advantage of the honeymoon period because it disappears rapidly and then it's a lot harder to work your sleeve for weight loss. Would I do it all again? 100% YES! I love my sleeve!
