I dont know about this... I know alcohol is supposed to hit you harder but this i'm not sure -
A real easy way is to have some diabetic candy. It is loaded with Sorbitol which provide a 'laxative' effect. You have to figure out how much you need. If your sensitive to sugar alcohols it won't take long. Mag Citrate.... Oh, I gag at the thought...... Also, I you like tea....Smooth Move or 'dieters Tea' has senna in it. Usually works over night. Be sure you're drinking water

There is great advice here. I will gain weight eating 1000 calories a day from sugar and starch. My tolerance is basically nil. Your liver produces 300g of glucose for basic body functions everyday regardless of what you eat, so eating more carbs on top of that can be a recipe for disaster. Fructose (half of the table sugar [sucrose] we consume is glucose, the other half is fructose) Is unique in the way it interacts in our body. Fructose crosses the blood/brain barrier, in a similar way to highly addictive drugs like opiates, cocaine, and methamphetamine. The result is extreme cravings, withdrawal symptoms and very high relapse rates when trying to give it up. Many of the most addictive food products that people crave and can't give up are made with high fructose corn syrup, which is even more addictive than table sugar because of the higher fructose content. I have read studies that report it is harder to quit sugar than smoking, heroin or alcohol addiction. The difference, of course, is that we recognize those are dangerous, deadly and addictive substances and have rehab programs set up to help those addicts. Fructose is passed out by the fistfuls to children at Halloween, Christmas, Easter and readily available dirt cheap on literally every corner store and restaurant everywhere you look.

Saramarie, may I inquire if alcohol is approved your doctor or NUT at five days out? If they do you picked the wrong medical team. It is too soon! Most are still on clear or maybe full liquids at that point. Alcohol can cause serious complications like ulcers and leaks. I mean serious possibly life threatening complications. I am not judging you I am honestly concerned for your well being. Your just had 80% of your stomach removed and it is held together by staples. It is a raw, swollen irritated mess that can't even handle basic food. 6 weeks is the earliest Doctor recommendation I have seen on this board. Most are 3, 6, 12 months or even never. -
Attending a wedding @ 6 weeks out
GEARJAMMER replied to bostonmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I guess everybody heals differently. I wish I healed as fast as you did. And every doctor is different too. My doc said 1 yr before any alcohol. I've been having a hard time with everything. Today was my 6th day and tried broth and almost threw up. So all I can handle is Water and Protein drinks. Glad it's working out this well for you. Also keep in mind it might feel ok now but ulcers are not formed overnight. But it sounds like it was only at a special occasion for the alcohol. Sorry if I'm babbling. Good luck!!!!! You can probably find something at the buffet to munch on... any kind of dip can be put on your plate, and you can use a carrot as a vessel to your lips! LOL But as far as alcohol goes, It's a toss up. Obviously if your doctor approved it, but just keep in mind the calorie counts, and don't ever drink anything sweet or with added sugars. I sipped on a bloody mary at 6 weeks out... felt guilty as hell, and didn't have another drink until 3 months out... which I only had a couple of glasses of wine over a 5 day period in Key West. -
Deb and Donna, welcome to LBT! I'm the DH (darling husband) to MsJoy (the banded one). I know from reading in here that yes, you can have alcohol, but most of the doctors restrict its use during the healing period. I'm sure you don't need to be told what it feels like throwing a little alcohol on an open wound. Then after they have healed some of the members here have a glass of wine or two, some beer...whatever you can stand, I guess.

Wedding on 10/10
marypups replied to Pillar2butterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you think there will be chicken or some form of Protein at the wedding? I have been to several weddings and fancy parties since I was sleeved three months ago, and there was always something good to choose. (Lots of bad stuff, too, but plenty of fine choices if I chose to make them). Personally, I would lay off the alcohol for a little while longer. -
Ok...I'm freaking out. One of my best friends from childhood is getting married on 10/10...I have to drive out of town for the wedding. I'm freaking out about the food....I'm freaking out about all the liquor I know will be there. My friend and her family are all obese...so I don't know what to expect of the menu...so I was planning on bringing a pouch of tuna...my question...is that RUDE to not eat the meal they paid for me to eat? Also, do you think a glass of champagne is going to do me in? I haven't had a drop of alcohol since 8/9 (10 days prior to surgery)...I was never a huge drinker (just occasional)...but it's a wedding for crying out loud! LOL

Does anyone have a glass of wine or a drink on a daily basis?
-
I agree with wannalise. OA is a good program. Usually donations are $1 or $2 per meeting. Go to a different meeting if the first one doesn't fit. Each meeting has a slightly different feel. Also, sometimes open AA meetings can be good as well. Just substitute food for alcohol or the drug of choice. I have attended several different 12-step meetings over the years and they are a wonderful tool to get at the real issues behind our unhealthy relationships with food.

Plastic surgery and a TMI belly button question...
onmyway11 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've lost a good bit by now (84lbs with 39 to go) my belly button isn't getting any air and it's gross and smelly and wet. Sooo gross. I've tried lotrimin spray and alcohol to clean it but it's still gross. Any advise on how to deal with this? Also when do you start thinking about plastic surgery. Again I still have a ways to go but I'm already seeing belly button issues and thinking I need to wrap my head around another surgery. And also what's the chance I get my insurance company to pay for it? Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 199 GW: 160 -
Protein powder/Lactose Intolerance
soozan replied to JayJay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
J, I haven't been banded yet but I am LI and was worried about the shakes. I also am sensitive to Sucralose and the sugar alcohol sugar substitutes. Many on this board wrote about unjury. I ordered samples of each flavor plus the unflavored. I like it. It mixes with Water and is a bit thin but tolerable. Tried all but the chicken, that one scares me....lol The great part is I had NO TUMMY TROUBLE. -

What kind of surgery did you have? Are you drinking while eating or failing to do the 30-30? Do you eat dense protein first? How much volume/weight are you eating at meals? Do you log what you eat? Do you snack all day? How many times are you eating? Do you drink alcohol? Are you eat a lot of carbs? -
1 week clear liquids, 1 week liquids, 2 weeks soft foods, now I'm almost 4 weeks and I'm about to start introducing what I feel like. No red meat for 6 months, no alcohol for 6 months, no raw vegetables for 3 months. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Nervous about the liquid diet
greytz replied to Dandygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink the protein shake before you go to the wedding and politely refuse the food if asked. You can drink other types of liquid while there (no alcohol of course). It is really important to stay on track before the surgery. You could run the risk of your surgery being postponed. -
Go to the seminar because it may help you decide. When I attended there were maybe 20 folks at mine. At least 3 stood up an left when the NUT said you may never have alcohol AGAIN, and at least 5 stood up and left when they talked about hair loss. A little dramatic yes, but it will weed out those who do not want to put any effort into their life changes.

Going On Vacation Please Help!
Arts137 replied to MrsRaychJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, at 3 months out folks WILL notice the weight loss and that you are eating and drinking "differently". Unsure how you can keep the secret much longer. At 3 months out, assuming all goes well, and it should, you can eat soft foods easily. Yes to H2O and protein suppliments, depends on your program whether you should drink any alcohol, and when you eat, try to eat what you've already tried to avoid any 'surprised' (at either end). -
Carbonated drinks

Got Children? Got Grand-Children? Read this!

Tina and I visited a friend in the VA hospital in Brooklyn about 10 years ago. He was in the ward where the cancer patients who got cancer from cigarettes are and it was disgusting to see people who had had their larynx removed smoking cigarettes through the tube that they breath through in their neck. Tina quit smoking a little while after that. Our friend died shortly after also. A coworker who had his larynx removed because of cigarette induced cancer had to keep a damp scarf around his neck to keep the breathing hole area moist. One day I noticed that it had turned brown from smoking cigars through his breathing hole. I know a dozen people who have kicked coke, crack or heroin, and stopped drinking alcohol, but can not stop smoking. -
So what kind of support are you looking for? Do you want people to congratulate you on the alcohol and drug addiction and encourage you to do more of it? If you can't moderate yourself, abstain entirely. There's no other solution. The sleeve actually makes it easier for drugs and booze to hurt you because of how quickly they absorb into the bloodstream. Moderating yourself is even more essential with this WLS. If your goal is to destroy your organs like your liver or kill yourself, you're on the right track.
