I have tried them all, (and I usually buy according to what is on sale) but my all time fav has to be the Fage. LOVE IT. I've even tried the Kroger brand, blech, totally disgusting and not worthy of me even adding my SF syrup to. I already have one kiddo liking the Fage, just need to work on kiddo #2 (aka the picky sister). It's going to be a crazy yogurt bill around here on grocery day once hubby gets sleeved in March!

3 weeks post-op Am I doing this right?
crayon67 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 3 weeks post-op sleeve surgery and am concerned about stretching my "pouch". I know there may be a bit of stretching down the line, I just am so nervous. I did not have any pain at all after surgery, have had energy (not back to work yet though so that may change), and started walking (slowly) on the treadmill 2 days post-op. I have eaten very finely chopped up chicken already as well as eggs, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. I have not had that "full" feeling I have read about but I do know when I am satisfied and stop eating. I have not felt nauseous at all even the evening after the surgery. Are there others out there that have had it "easy" post - op? I have a super supportive family and I'm so excited about this new stage in my life. I just want to do it right. -
Ok... Had my first preop Dr. Apt yesterday and while I was happy that iv lost weight (10lbs in 2 weeks since surg) I'm not ecstatic about it. I expected more since I was on liquids for 2 solid weeks. My NUT and Dr said I probably would have lost more, but I'm not getting nearly enough calories in. So basically my body has shut down and is refusing to lose at a more rapid pace because I'm only able to get in 300-500 cal a day. AND to top it off, my doc said no gym until I get my caloric intake up. WTH So I guess my real question is, can anyone suggest high calorie meals that's aren't huge? NUT said it looks like I have a very tight sleeve, so it will be harder for me. Right now I can only consume about 1/2 an egg or 4 bites of cream of wheat or 1/4 a yogurt cup. Obviously not much at all. I'm just scared that if I don't start being able to consume more that my weight loss will not progress. I'm ready to get in the gym. I was sleeve as a tool, not to have it as a crutch. Sleeve Date: March 28, 2013 Weight on surgery date: 281 First Goal 50lbs: July 13, 2013 (231)

2 weeks post op and no restriction
Woodstock girl replied to vikeetingsgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal to not feel much restriction the first several weeks following surgery. I sure can identify with that feeling that you need to eat something. When that urge hit me so strong I couldn't stand it anymore, I cooked some Cream of Wheat that I had put two scoops of chocolate Protein powder in, so it tasted like Malto Meal. Yum! Just make it kind of soupy -- you don't want to risk slippage of your band. One time I tossed in a sliced banana and cooked it with the Cream of Wheat. After being on liquids, I never had anything so good! Or try a small jar of baby meat. You will probably need to salt it, but it will taste real good. You should not be eating bread this early in the game - that is very risky! You could microwave a little frozen strawberries or blueberries, mash them up real well and add some skim ricotta cheese or greek yogurt and some artificial sweetner. Eat it slowly with a baby spoon. Make it last at least 15 to 20 minutes. I also had no problem with scrambled egg when I was supposed to be on liquid. You generally will lose a lot weight on the liquid diet because the lack of bad carbs may put your body into Ketosis. When I hit that stage, I was losing a pound a day. You can tell if you are in Ketosis because you will have a horrible taste in your mouth that you can't get rid of, and you may feel nauseated. Ketosis is how people lose so much weight who are on the Atkins and other low carb diets. It's okay to lose weight like that for a little while, but when I couldn't take it anymore, I ate a can of potato soup to take myself out of ketosis. Since I didn't feel any restriction the first weeks after surgery, my doctor gave me my first fill on my one-month followup. It helped a lot. Then he gave me my 2nd fill yesterday on my 6 week visit. I'm having a little trouble with too much restriction I think, because I'm having trouble even drinking Water. I have to eat and drink standing up, so I may have to go get the doc to take a little out of the band. Hang in there. Time will pass quickly. It's important that you let yourself heal before adding too many solid foods. Try one thing at a time to see what you can tolerate. It's different for everyone. -
Hi, My surgery was Oct 3 and I too have been having nausea. My mother is freaking out and wants me to call the Lap Band Center, of course. I think maybe it's just normal for some people. I have been only taking in liquid as well. I tried some yogurt but it was a disaster. Does this feeling go away?

I change up my Snacks super frequently because I get bored pretty quickly. I've found that the 100 calorie packs are a little too expensive for my liking. So I'll buy a few different things each week. When I get home, I open the bag (or box) and portion them out into individual ziploc bags. That way everything is portion-set per bag and I don't have to think about anything in the morning when I'm still half asleep getting ready for work. I just grab stuff from the fridge and pantry and get on my way. I also keep a few things at work because that's where I get into trouble (if I don't come to work prepared, I eat HORRIBLY). Like everyone else, fruits and veggies are good. You can go back to kindergarden and rock some ants on a log (celery with pb and rasins), chips are my weak point so I don't indulge in them often but there's one called pirates booty (think cheese puffs but healthier) and those are great. Nuts. Granola. My favorite part about my grocery store is the bulk candy/snack aisle because I can make my own "trail mix" with sunflower seeds, nuts, dried fruits, et al. I usually throw a few m&m's in there to keep my sweet tooth happy as well. Snak paks are good but like anything else, get old after a while. Cheeses. Yogurts. Veggie chips. If you have a sweet tooth... try getting low fat cinnamon graham crackers and fat free cool whip. Split a graham cracker in half, make a sandwich using the cool whip in between. Put a bunch of these in a tupperware container and freeze them. The graham cracker gets a little softer and the cool whip freezes so it makes a make-shift ice cream sandwhich. No lie, they're REALLY good. Don't know the calories or fat but it's not high and I seem to remember it being very low. Definitely nice to mix it up at night when you need something sweet after dinner.

When going to a restaurant, what do you order?
Debbie P replied to laniayala's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Donna, Be careful with fast food. The McDonalds fruit and yogurt has tons of calories, its awful. I looked it up and I remember its real high. When in doubt, order brothy soups, no creamed soups, lots of fat. Good luck. -
How do you get 60g of protein in a day?
MissBS replied to cynw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought the Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein Powder at GNC (unflavored). It is 21 grams of protein per scoop. I mix it with my yogurt or sugar free Jello pudding. I have a protein shake in the morning (15 g.) and this in the evening (21g). The other 24 I easily get with the food that I am eating, and I'm only on the soft foods/mushie stage. Becky -

Hi all, I'm hoping for a bit of advice. I'm 7 weeks out of surgery...lost 12 lbs the first to weeks and then stopped losing completely. Then had my first fill about 2 weeks ago and lost 6 lbs in like 4 days and I've been at the same weight since. I have a feeling that it's due to the fact that I'm having a really hard time eating anything in the mornings. I just have absolutely no appetite. I've never really been a Breakfast person, but I know I should be getting atleast 60g of Protein a day. They also say that it's best to eat breakfast within an hour of waking up to kick start your metabolism. I've tried it all...protein shakes (I'm so disgusted with them), slimfast shakes, eggs....I can't even get down a cup of yogurt or a cheese stick. I'm just grossed out. I can't explain the feeling. And then noon comes around and I'm starving. I do get in most of my fluids through just plain Water and sometimes crystal light. But I'm really struggling here and not losing! It's been almost 2 months since surgery and only an 18 lb loss. I see others losing SO much more and it's so frustrating. I do have a little restriction already but I definitely need alot more. I'm just aggravated... Any suggestions anyone? Anything would be appreciated...thanks for listening to my rant.

Hi Craftylady! I have a question for you. I see something about people drinking Protein shakes. When would people be drinking these? I know for my pre op I only get milk, yogurt, cottage cheese and Jello.

Using Syntrax Nectar question
devillynn replied to StephBtoo's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
i love Syntrax Nectar! i use the crystal Sky, fuzzy navel, pink grapefruit, apple ecstasy, and i have tried the carribean cooler but it isn't one of my favorites those are all the ones i mix with about 16 oz of Water in my mixer cup. then i mix with milk - 6-8 oz of 1% - the chocolate truffle, strawberry mousse, vanilla bean torte - i also want to try the mint i have heard it is really good! - i also like to get some plain vanilla greek yogurt and mix a scoop of the chocolate and make a chocolate pudding out of it - it is so good! 1 cup of yogurt and 1 scoop of Protein mix of your choice and it is a yummy treat! and you can divide it up into a couple servings and it is still very high in protein that way. I order mine from Amazon sometimes i can find it on Prime sometimes not just depends on what flavors i get - and most of the time i drive to Abilene - an hour drive from where i live here in Texas - to buy mine from the Drug Emporium (a local heath food chain store) they usually have them all in stock. -
2 Weeks Post Op and am still snacking...
Fusilli66 replied to pammyp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 2 weeks out also and I am experiencing what you are experiencing. I have had some trouble getting some foods down, but once they are down my stomach hasn't been sensitive to anything. I haven't had anything with sugar or any sweets but I do find myself snacking on SF puddings and Jello and yogurt. I also am not really following the guidelines set by my doctor and I know that is wrong. I should be in the pureed foods stage but quite frankly the thought of pureed meat is nauseating to me so instead I eat little bits of meat and chew them really good. But nothing tough. I had 1/2 a meatball for dinner last night and that filled me up. I have also been eating Beans (black & white mixed with chicken broth) for lunch because they are high in Protein. But I don't puree them. I feel like they are soft enough. Soup has been my best friend, especially egg drop from the chinese restaurant. But I get what you mean about hunger. I have been experiencing that also. Although I know it is head hunger, but the littlest amounts of foods satisfy it. So if you have to snack, just stick to sf Snacks, apple sauce, yogurt and you should be ok. -
making a list checking it twice ;)
melegge replied to thenewsue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For the hospital I am packing some comfy clothes to wear home, my own pajamas, my toiletries, my medications, slippers and my sleeve book. I just went to Target today and picked up chewable vitamins and dissolvable b12, vitamin water calorie free, chicken and beef broth, sugar free jello, liquid Tylenol. I plan to go out and get my foods for week 2/3 my hubby will bring me to town and I will need/want to get out of the house. I do have yogurts and soups to strain. I also have my premade protein drinks the muscle milk light and my pure protein powder as I start a protein shake per day on day #3. I already have a magic bullet that I use daily to make my shakes and measuring spoons/cups and a food scale, so I think I am set there. I am scheduled for July 1st at 730am!! -

Thanks Leatha and Alex, My doctor is very good at responding to e-mail, so I will send one off to her right now. So you really don't think this could be a virus? I do have other symptoms (achy, cough--which could be from the reflux, etc.), and I can still eat. I just ate non fat yogurt, green beans and soy chips (low carb, high protein) for lunch. Alex, when it happened to you did your stomach gurgle and have the food or juices work their way up? I do have Prevacid which I will start now. I had this problem before when I was filled too tight, but it went away with an unfill. It was different, however, in that I did not have the noises, I could NOT eat, and I had terrible heartburn. I will contact my Dr. and see what she wants to do. Thanks for your help. I am still so depressed that with all these problems, I have lost only about 40 pounds in a year. I get too depressed to come here and read about everyone else's success (happy for THEM, depressed for ME!!) I do try to stay positive, but it is difficult. Thanks again. Sultana Sultana

Would you use it as a dip for veggies, or just eat it as yogurt?
-
Here's a way I eat chicken that sits well: Put some pieces into a food processor and pulverize the hell out of it. Then add some non fat plain greek yogurt and mix. This works for me and is very high protein!

Is it ever allowed? Low fat? Frozen yogurt? Any form?

Banded September 2009 And It's Getting Harder!
sfchick posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yikes...this isn't good... Has this happened to anyone else? In September 2010...I was banded. Lots of up and downs...fills that were tight...too loose, finding my sweet spots... I fly a LOT for work...so my band gets tight at times because the elevation kills me. I recently had some trouble, had 4 cc taken out and put on 20 lbs... I went back and forth getting fills, getting unfilled, and I was at the doctor all the time....FINALLY I found a happy medium. I'm at 8 cc with an 11 cc band. I was doing GREAT. I had excellent restriction. I was eating well. Drinking lots of Protein. One day, a couple days after my WONDERFUL fill, I ate a couple chicken meatballs for dinner, and ate them too fast. Lots of vomiting, and I haven't been able to keep anything solid down since. It's been 3 days. Massive amount of extra bile, choking at night, coughing. I try to eat, and 20 minutes later, I'm full of bile, and I can't drink anything, and I can't feel my good "drop" like I usually do. I was able to keep a couple Protein shakes down and a yogurt shake down, but nothing solid.... I tried again, and I had a TON of bile, and ended up vomiting at the restaurant... On my last fill, my doctor said "wait it out until 4 weeks even if you have problems" Give your stomach a chance to acclimate to your new fill". Has anyone have anything similar happen to them? Will my stomach calm down so I could feel good, and eat and feel the food "drop" like I used to? I'm freaking out...wondering if I have gallstones, or if I just ate something too fast and now my stomach needs a break... -
Post op, you can eat soup (add cottage cheese and put in a blender for protein), greek yogurt, pudding. (if your dr lets you, mine did for liquid)...........I drank my pre op optifast post op, because I couldn't stomach anything. You can make smoothies with yogurt and fruit (no seeds), you might be able to add some of the powder to a smoothie.

It’s week 5 for me, and I’m having the same problems: can eat very little one day, feel slightly nauseated, but it subsides. Then some days feel great, but still eat vey little. I find it difficult to drink water it makes my stomach feel empty, only protein shakes, yogurt, smooth cool foods are soothing to eat. I find very little delight in eating, even when it’s food I enjoy. I can stomach soups: pea, lentil, chicken, but no more than 4oz at a time. It’s a struggle.
