I Invented A New Low-Carb, High Protein Food Today
TheNewSusie replied to DesertRat's topic in Food and Nutrition
That's is true . Also if u take Greek yogurt and drain it overnight and add a little evoo the next day, you'll have labaneh . It's our version of yogurt in the "Arab world" lol -
One of the things I am doing in anticipation of my VSG surgery is experimenting with foods that will be allowable after the procedure. A few nights back I was taking my walk and found myself craving something sweet. When I got home I took care of the craving by eating 6 ounces of Chobani plain Greek Yogurt. It was one of the most filling things I've ever eaten and the nutrition is good. The taste, however, was not all that good. It reminded me of sour cream, which gave me an idea. Today at the grocery store I picked up some onion Soup mix and when I had my yogurt I tried adding some, effectively making the yogurt taste like onion dip, albeit much more healthy. It was delicious. The onion soup mix does have some carbs so that requires accounting but it's not much and the flavor boost is tremendous.

Breakfast:Premier protein snack shake Snack:Cheese stick Lunch: Light and fit cherry chocolate yogurt Pretzel Snack: meat and cheese roll-up Dinner: pulled pork, corn on the con Snack: watermelon!

I mix yogurt and cottage cheese. This increases the Protein content of the snack and the cottage cheese cuts the sharp flavor of the yogurt. I will have 2 oz of the mix in the afternoon as a snack. As for crunchy, I eat raw sunflower seeds, roasted soybeans and pumpkin seeds. I have not found a granola that will be low carb.

Early Plateau: Is something wrong?
julasif replied to GApeach80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So we were sleeved the same day. The EXACT thing happened to me! 18 lbs the first 13 days and then absolutely NOTHING until 3 days ago. I started eating every two hours and I upped my exercise to include some arm strengthen exercises and a VERY light jog on part of my walk(it's more like a shuffle really because I'm still afraid of jarring movements, but it seems to get my heart rate going a little faster than just walking alone). I also actually took out a protein shake. So I have 1 protein shake (Premier with 30grams protein), 1 serving cottage cheese (10 g protein), 1 yogurt (Greek triple 0 has 15 g protein), 1 spoonful hummus, I spoonful peanut butter, 1/4 cup broccoli cheddar or chicken soup). It's under 600 calories, and it seems to be working because I'm now down 3 lbs in 3 days. Or maybe it doesn't even matter and it was just naturally time for the stall to end. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see the scale moving again. Good luck to you! Just remember, nobody EVER stopped losing for good 2 weeks after weight loss surgery. Our body is just a little freaked out right now, I'm sure. -
Help...same Food Every Day For A Week
tmorgan813 replied to tmorgan813's topic in Food and Nutrition
my smoothies are made with greek yogurt and soy milk...so I get lots of protein in with those. I totaly understand that the repetitiveness and boredom will help me in the long run...it's just hard. I never really ate much prior to surgery...but I enjoyed large meals and I liked to snack. Now, I don't even like to eat my "meals". I know with time, I will feel better with it all. I just need to accept the repetitiveness of it all. Thanks for your post...it helps to know it gets better. -
I Invented A New Low-Carb, High Protein Food Today

Greek yogurt is a main part of my diet because it has double the protein. You can add a tiny bit of jam to it and it will taste delicious. It goes down very smoothly and is filling....so I still eat it even though I am on "full foods". -
Anyone have any trouble eating? or breaking the drinking with a meal habit?
StartingOver27 replied to StartingOver27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the problem is I'm not a huge egg fan and I don't even want to think about cottage cheese. : ( but I did look at amazon as suggested and called the doctor to see what I could try out of the cook books I am looking at. He said some of the same as you suggested and also suggested yogurts. I'm not a fan of that either. But I'll give it all a shot because I went to eat a piece of kraft cheese and started gagging and heaving before I could finish chewing the first bite and I used to love that!! There are many things I "crave" but it's all in my mind. My body isn't craving it. Like we passed a pizza place and oh I wanted it. My fiancé got a slice and I was all ready for my bite and as soon as I went to put it to my mouth I felt sick. So needless to say lots of the things I crave are all in my head. I can do small gulps but not big ones and as far as the rule breaking goes I am going to try to break the habit before going around the rules. Lol. It's one of those things that I might be able to do but like the other person said I need or feel like I need something to wash it down with. -

I'm 9 days out of surgery and my nut says only Protein shakes and broth for three weeks after surgery. Nothing blended, no Jello, no yogurt, nothing but shakes and broth. I'm not even half way and I'm going to need an alibi because there will be bodies before these three weeks are up. I'm going crazy!! Is there some way I can mix Protein powder and milk into something besides a Protein shake?

I have heard that Quinoa is really good and good for you. I am not sure what to do with it though. I guess I should google recipes with it. Chia seeds are weird. I soak mine until they get all plumped up and put them in yogurt. I should throw some in my smoothies too.

I love raspberries. I wonder if you could puree and then freeze them for a lovely Italian Ice type treat. Or (I have seen this when blueberries, not sure if it will work with raspberries) but coat them in yogurt and then freeze them and they are lovely little yogurt covered berry treats? Can't wait to see what ideas people come up with. I need to go find a farmers market..

I definitely meal-plan, shop and cook more than I did pre-op. (I've lost all my excess weight and maintained my weight loss for over 15 months.) Breakfast is high Protein / high Fiber. lunch is something easy, e.g., dinner leftovers, a high-protein/high-veggie salad or sandwich, etc. Planned Snacks (not grazing!) are fruit, cheese. We do a sit-down dinner every night -- either home-cooked or healthy takeout. We eat in restaurants 4-5 times a month. I'm such a fan of My Fitness Pal. Using it for the last 2+ years, I've learned so much about the basic nutrients of specific foods. I now eat more fibrous veggies and fruits; yesterday I had carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, spaghetti squash, and blueberries. Yesterday's protein came from a Protein Drink, Greek yogurt, skim milk, cheese, roast beef, chicken. Whole grains were high-protein/high-fiber bread (2 slices), all-bran Cereal. I have treats daily. Yesterday's were 1 salted caramel biscotti, 1.5 ounces of scotch, and 1.4 ounces of dark chocolate. It's all so delicious and satisfying. I couldn't be happier about how I'm eating.

Breakfast is either 1% cottage cheese with fruit, plain non fat Greek yogurt with stevia and a piece of fruit, 2 pieces of turkey sausage or bacon with a sunny side up egg or my "treat" once a week is old fashioned oat meal or cream of wheat with cinnamon.

Koshi go lean is good stuff with milk or in yogurt. I quit having it around because I liked it to much.

I love my Dannon Greek Yogurt.....I live on the vanilla fat free with only 80 calories per container. I put a cup of fruit, usually blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries with a little granola (about a 1/4 cup) and it is a great Breakfast or snack for around 250 calories. It's awesome

I thought I would be eating eggs everyday....HA! I can barely get down one whole egg (scrambled) with cheese. This sucks, as I do NOT eat cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream or anything else of that texture. So breakfast is usually a protein shake,or watermelon.

What signs should I look for to know I'm full?
uberbuffaloegal replied to numeby2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi numby2017, I am just a bit ahead of you at 5 weeks today. At 10 days I was able to get alot of liquids, Soup and yogurt in. I thought the surgery was a fail. Now on soft food, I feel a pressure, that's when I know to stop or the food will come up. I rarely can eat more than a couple ounces of food and liquids are even going down slowly now. Surgery was a complete success, although, I have wicked head hunger. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
It could be from taking your meds with only liquids. I know if I take ANY meds without something mushy or semi-solid that I will be nauseous as soon as the medication hits the bottom of my stomach. Our new stomachs have a narrow curve at the bottom now so pills tend to sit there as they dissolve and it can irritate the stomach lining quite a bit if they are sitting on bare tummy. Try taking them with something solid or yogurt or pudding at the very least so that the pills can dissolve in the food and not directly on the stomach lining before passing into the pylorus.

@@Trayjay33 I buy one of the non fat 100 calorie Greek yogurts. Aldi has one that is good and inexpensive. The mustard was spicy southwestern from Wal-Mart (their brand) I buy a lot of shredded deli chicken and mix up the tastes with the sauces. The Greek yogurt adds to the Protein total too!

Whoever came up with these Greek Yogurt 100 Calorie containers is an outstanding person because this is the ONLY thing getting me through my pre-op diet. I can have one of these a day and it's becoming the highlight of my entire day. So thanks, Yoplait!

I've been adding Isopure unflavored protein to my yogurt, very surprisingly good.

Wow, I have to say…it sounds like the holidays didn’t get too bad for most of you, and that’s great! And even better is that you have some sensible – not extreme – plan for getting back on track! Cervidae, Congratulations on having a treat, enjoying it, and stopping there! What an accomplishment, and something to be proud of and to remember when the going gets rough. Jennolsen, Protein and fluids – that’s the right idea! Congratulations on still losing during the holidays, and being so close to goal weight! It sounds like going back to counting, focusing on protein and Water, and getting rid of the junk are at the top of the list. For me, the first thing was to clean out my house to get rid of whatever holiday treats somehow snuck in and accumulated! Then I went grocery shopping for all kinds of good things, including fresh fruits and vegetables like lettuce, Snacks like carrots and grapes, and veggies to cook like broccoli and zucchini. I also stocked up on all the other healthy essentials, like yogurt, plus frozen staples like blueberries, and chicken. Now there’s no reason not to eat right!

I agree blender work best for shakes. The blender also allows you to add things like Greek yogurt or fruit. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" Einstein
