I have been working with a trainer four days a week for the past month and have really begun to see changes in my strength and endurance, and today, for the first time since I was 18, I ran 1/4 of a mile! I know that might not be a lot to some, but it was amazing to me. I have been doing sprints for the past few weeks, but today I really pushed myself and I was amazed that I could run that far. Not only did I run, I then did 15 minutes worth of free weights, 1000 crunches (yes, three zeros after that 1) and ended with 15 minutes on the stair master. Today was the hardest workout I have had in my life, and it was amazing! I still have a LONG way to go to get to my goal of participating in a sprint triathlon with my hubby, but I think that I might actually get there by next summer.

My wife, "You have hip bones! I have never felt a man's hip bone before!" Don't worry about when and where this comment took place.

I'm still preop so this is a NSV. LoL. I've been dieting since mid April and have lost 50 lbs. My 23 yr old daughter hugged me last night and was so excited that both her arms fit around my waist. LOL. It definitely put a smile on my face to see my baby girl so excited for me. : ) -
Most Surprising NSVs?
Fiddleman replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thought about this. I think one of the most surprising NSV is I do not sweat anymore. I used to be such a profuse sweater and it was embarrassing when it left sweat circles in my shirt. Now I have to be really working out hard to sweat. Cardio machines do not cause sweat. Running doesn't even cause sweating unless it is sprinting. -
What were some surprising/unexpected changes you experienced after being sleeved?

I've had a pannus since age 11... I have no idea what it will be like without one...It's just part of my body that I'm so used to now I can't imagine not having it.. .I actually have two sticks of deodorant.. one for my pits and one for under my roll.... TMI? perhaps, but it will be nice to downgrade to only one stick of deodorant and some point! I guess I can add that to the list of NSVs I'm looking forward to. -

My biggest NSV is feeling comfortable. It is easier to do pretty much anything, but the thing that makes me the happiest is being close to my husband. At over 400 lbs, the last thing I wanted to do was snuggle, because I felt smothered by my own body. Now we can get much closer, and it's great! -
Two years ago, attended the Taste the Town Event, by the time I was done, I looked like I'd had a food fight so much stains on my shirt , Last night I had 1/2 slice of pizza, 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes, and a baggie of popcorn rest of the night.. NSV for me!

Maybe the BMI is a scale victory but I have plenty of NSV's... loving myself in photo's again, towels that fit, all the clothes in my closet that are falling off and the belt that I'm wearing today needs a hole added because its too big!! I love my band!! -
Forgive me because I am relatively new. What are NSVs?

So one of my goals from preop was to be able to wear my husband's t-shirts. Not that I will wear them but just that I could be able to. He wears a large and I can't ever remember buying large shirts. For as long as I can remember I've only ever bought XL shirts. A few months ago I found a t-shirt that I really liked but they didn't have it in an XL so I went ahead and bought it in a large. I wore it this past weekend!!! I also tried on one of my husband's t-shirts and IT FIT!!! GGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!!! I was so excited! I also had a pretty funny NSV the other day. I was standing and looked down and saw a shadow next to me, I couldn't figure out who was standing next to me until I realized it was my OWN shadow! I didn't even recognize my own shadow! I couldn't help but laugh. I also saw a picture of myself that a random kid took of me, took me a second to realize who I was looking at there too. It is strange seeing this thinner, healither (and prettier too if I can say that without sounding conceited) woman looking back at me -
Depressed and disappointed in self

I felt this way. I felt ashamed that I even needed to be having surgery - like if I really had my life in order, I wouldn't have let myself get this big in the first place. I wouldn't have let myself get big and miss out living life to the fullest in my 20's. I was embarrassed to tell people and wondered what they would think of me. Even now that it's over, I have these moments of, "oh my god! what did i do to myself!" HOWEVER... then I have to think, if I didn't do it now, I could be even older than I am not, looking back, still struggling, wishing I had done something because I've missed by 30's (or 40's, or more!) This is not going to be easy. The full extent of how hard it is probably hasn't even hit me yet, but I know that I will do it. I have to do it because I want to feel better. I had a NSV today just realizing that my horrible foot pain has stopped - just by taking off 15 lbs the week after surgery. Maybe with another 15, my hips will feel good. Another and my knees will feel good. I have to hold on to that hope of being pain free, being active with my husband, and feeling proud of myself! Be proud that you are taking control now and just move forward. A year from now, you'll read your post and it will all be in the past. -
My NSV of the day- easily fitting in the ridiculously tiny bathroom stalls at my son's school. I remember at my heaviest, I literally had to hold it because I couldn't fit in them to go.

Patience can be tough at times that much is certain. Need to remember as well that you are working out a lot and while yes you are burning fat but you are also building muscle. Keep an eye out for NSVs because even if the scale is not moving doesn't mean your body isn't changing. I could go a month without losing but drop a pant size or two. Scale can be an evil thing at times but NSV's go a long way when it comes to morale. 23lbs is great by the way so you're doing fantastic. Weight loss is not going to be rapid no matter how much you work out or stick to strict dieting. Our chemical balance yo yo so frequently. -
Congrats, that is a huge NSV!

Its amazing the little things that we can do with our kids that we might of never had the chance to do before. Congrats that is a great nsv

Nsv are great! I love giving my mom my clothes. She was always smaller than me but at 81 she has gained a little Mainly because of breast cancer and lympodema in her arm. she loves the hand me downs! -
So, I've always been the type that hates exercise, sweat, getting hot, etc. Monday, I ran for the first time in... 6-7 years. I ran 1 mile, with breaks. Today, I ran another mile. Without stopping. Clocked in at 12:41. It is slow, but I'm super proud What is a realistic running regimen for me? My dream has always been to run a 5k. I just never thought Id last half lap around the track. I plan to run a mile 3 times a week. It's one of my biggest NSV: I can't believe I can run! Sure I'm slow, but wow... Running??? Do you think a 5k is something that I could shoot for and how would I go about training for this? Any and all advice is much appreciated! I'm a fish out of Water when it comes to exercise.
