I'm 13 days out... Purée help!
m&m4ever replied to krysten.warren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor is different, but mine listed puréed foods as liquids that can pour out of a bowl. Some examples are strained or puréed soups, applesauce, blenderized soft or canned fruit, yogurt without fruit pieces (they recommended Yoplait light). Hope this helps! -
You may have oatmeal. One of my favorites is the fat free Greek yogurts. The plain variety has 20g of protein.

How much is normal weight gain durning everyones favorite time of the month/
Noturningback15 replied to Bobthedog's topic in The Gals' Room
The most I have ever gained is 2 or 3 pounds while on. I would contribute most of that to the extra sweets and frappucianos I had during that time period. This last time I didn't gain a pound. I actually cut back on my calories on purpose for this special occasion! LOL! I decided I don't like seeing any kind of gain no matter what so for now on I will be doing a repeat of last month. I must have at least one bag of M&M's though and one frozen yogurt treat with chocolate and waffle cone pieces in it. Those sugar free fudge popcicles seem to help control my cravings some though. -
Any advice for me? Op on the 24th Aug in the UK
honk replied to jane uk's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi. Not sure what UK doctors have you eat after surgery but here are some thoughts. I found buying Chicken Stock was much better than Chicken Broth. Gave a lot more flavor. Also when you can move to full liquids I really enjoy Greek Yogurt which is higher in protein than the regular stuff we get here in the US (mine has 17 grams protein for 6 ounces). I take it out of it's original container and put it in a bowl and add several tablespoons vanilla Whey Protein Powder, unflavored fiber powder, Splenda (fake sweetener sold in the US), and a tablespoon fat free milk. I use a "stick blender and mix everything together and mince up the fruit from the yogurt. Tastes fabulous! -
My incisions are and have been hurting pretty bad, and even places where there are no incisions. It feels like my insides are ripping apart. I had a lot of the gas left over from surgery and it still is not all gone. I have also eaten yogurt and did not have a problem with the dairy...... I guess one of these days I will get to feeling half better. My follow up with the surgeon is tomorrow...

Progress! Managed to eat a little cottage cheese and NO queasiness after! I practically threw myself a parade hah. I'm thinking this is a good sign toward mushies? Feeling a lot stronger today, likely due to yogurt and cheese. I also tried these 42g protein shooter things and I think that helped a LOT, but oh god it was *awful* getting (and keeping) that down. Any suggestions for less offensive tasting protein? I'm trying to get as much in as possible but obviously it's quite a task. Help!

9 days post op and I am HUNGRY!
nugirl402 replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery the 28th so 5 days post op and I was hungry till I added Greek yogurt and soft egg. Can't deal/handle just protein shakes. Maybe try that with doc approval. -
Hi: I don't count calories or carbs or Protein. I've been banded for 2 1/2 years and have never counted them. That would be too much like "dieting". My doctor tells us to eat healthy, take a multi-Vitamin, and exercise. Works for me. I usually have one of the following for breakfast. Yogurt w/a tablespoon of granola, warmed 1/4 cup of fat free milk with 2 tablespoons of granola, cup of cheerios, cereal bar, a couple of pieces of fat free cheese, cream of wheat, oatmeal, or a peach crisp that I make with instant oatmeal and no sugar added peaches. I have one pancake or 1 1/2 pieces of french toast sometimes on the weekend for a treat. I lean toward the warm choices during the winter. Best wishes to you finding foods that work for you. Keep on trying. Sue

I'm 3 weeks post op, and so far, my breakfasts have mostly cosisted of Carb Master yogurt (12 g Protein, 4 g carbs) and light string cheese (8 g protein, ? carbs). I'll probably stay on this for a few more weeks, or at least until I get my first fill. There is one guy at my local support group meeting who has been banded over a year that eats one hard boiled egg and four cucumber slices every day for breakfast. Not sure why, but that's his chosen breakfast. When you met with your dietician, did s/he give you a list of the acceptable foods? Perhaps you can look at it again, seeing something that you may have forgotten about. Sorry I'm not more help, since I'm a week behind you, I haven't yet graduated to a full breakfast. Good luck!

Help Me Stock My Pantry
ellendeette replied to waitingpatiently's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to add that I wasn't big on sugar-free anything. To soften the blow on the sugar-free pudding, I would add low-fat whipped creme. You can put a little on your pudding or Jello. I rarely like jello because of that two week before and two week after surgery. After the two weeks after surgery, I really did not like eating anything sugar-free. I would rather have nothing than having it or would rather just have a smaller amount of the real food (not sugar-free). I don't think the sugar-free part of foods is good for you. I also made my own soups/broth. It seemed more flavorful. You can freeze it so you always have some around. Creamy Soups had more flavor too. Popsicles were good too. I bought the ones with low sugar. I can't eat those anymore either because I ate them for two weeks before and after surgery. I think I as burned out on all those things. Yogurt really helps too when you get the mushy stage. -
Need help with Protein shakes or additives
Yvette1026 replied to mom2girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Designer whey is 100 calories per scoop. With the shakes I make (adding 2 scoops, apples, bananas, strawberries and agave nectar and 1/2 of fage greek yogurt and 6oz of skim milk) it makes 44 oz (I split it up between the day or sip all day) and the whole thing is just under 500 calories. So if you divide that into 8oz servings (comes out to 5 and 1/2) that's just around 100 calories per serving. Making your own and using fresh and natural ingredients is always best. -
I just had a horrible PB/ slime experience today. I was starving and I stopped and got a small chicken cheese steak, planning to only eat half. Needless to say I only made it past 3 bites and I experienced pain so bad I thought I was in labor again! I had to pull over 3 times while drive and the whole episode lasted about an hour and 15 min. I thought about going to the ER, or driving straight to my doctor's office. I made it home and I had to use a popsicle stick to gag myself causing some mucous and who knows what else to come up. I still feel like I am physically drained from the whole thing and I feel sore on my left side where the band is. I think the thing I need to keep in mind is I should have had a nice yogurt and string cheese for lunch and this wold not have happened. I am interested to hear about other experiences like this and what you can do to make it better. I NEVER want to go through that again......

Surgery And Recovery Alone

Crystal light flavor packets for your Water. Some people cannot stand water post op, for a while at least. It goes down easier disguised as lemonade. Your doctor will probably suggest a Vitamin with Iron (chewable flintstones works for me, the red box) and a chewable Calcium supplement. Citrical makes some. Also a chewable antacid. Pepcid chewable is harder to find but CVS makes a store brand. I got my broth and cream Soup in the carton so one would last me a whole week in the fridge. Maybe some yogurt? -
I've tried several different bars, including Atkins, but think of Protein bars as more of a treat than a meal or healthy source of protein. I'm dubious about the hidden carbs and sugar alcohols except in moderation. Of course, you should follow your surgeon's orders, but I'd opt for real protein sources and eat the bars in moderation. I also love making 'powder pudding' with Protein Powder, sugar free pudding, and greek yogurt. Pudding isn't the greatest food on earth, but it's a wonderful treat. I understand they can be frozen also, but it never lasts that long.

For Those Post Opers( 2 Days & More) That Can Drink.. What Are You Eating?
Izuri replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat maybe 4 ounces of food in a sitting. It takes me 30 min - 1 hour usually. I try and eat 3 times a day high protein (protein shakes, greek yogurt) and then two snacks (like half of a sugar free jello, broth, or popsicle), one between breakfast and lunch, and one between lunch and dinner. -
Congrats on surgery! I think at 5 days post op I wasn't getting all my Protein either. At this point don't really worry about 3 "meals" a day. Just work on getting high protein liquids down all day. Everyone's post op diet is different, but I know at 5 days I was on full liquids that included puddings & yogurts. Don't force yourself to eat just try to sneak in small amounts when you can. Good luck!

Vitamins and protein :(
livilu replied to donaboss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just tried "Oh Yeah"bars and they literally taste like a candy bar. they are not the best for Protein (180 cals for 14-15g of protein) but if nothing else is working it is better to get some than nothing at all. I also really like the unjury chocolate splendor with skim milk, ice, frozen fruit, unsweetened chocolate powder and plain greek yogurt. YUM It is a little higher calorie becaue of the fruit but it is about 240 cals and about 30g of protein. Sorry you are having so much trouble, I did too in the beginning. I regretted getting the surgery. Now 6 months later I know it was the best decision i ever made. For me it started to get better at about a month and a half. I hope it does for you too, good luck! -

Full liquids
MISSORLANDOPLUSAMERICA2011 replied to shelbystroh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have tried just about all flavors. I do both the powder and the liquid. I have been told NOT to drink the orange cream because it's nasty and that was from the staff. When drinking the powder I use 1 scoop of powder, add 1 spoon of greek yogurt, 1 spoon of powder Peanut Butter, 4 pieces of fruit, ice, sprinkle some ginger on it (for digestive), and 1 cup of almond milk. Blend and it's awesome. If you happen to do 2 scoops of Protein then I double the milk. I even take the GNC mega Vitamins for women in the powder form and I put a scoop of that in there too. I have a video that I created which goes step by step on how I do everything. The liquid I like to drink cold or almost in a slushy form! I drink those when I am on the go. They taste waaayyyy better than the whey powders and better than the Atkins drinks to me. I don't add (too) sugary fruits such as peaches and pineapples, etc. I use anything with a berry at the end because it gives it a hint of sweetness (which it really doesn't need). I also may add banana when I need that potassium. My favorite powder from the collection is Cinnamon Bun and Pina Colada. My favorite from the liquid is strawberry, chocolate and then Vanilla! Hopes this helps -
For Those Post Opers( 2 Days & More) That Can Drink.. What Are You Eating?
Texarkolina replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 4. I am able to get in 1/3 cup of full liquid like cream soup or pudding at a time. I eat for a max of 20 min. and give it up. I can drink a medium sip at a time and drink throughout the day. I am getting 30 ounces of water/crystal lite daily. I actually find it easier to get in full liquids and things that have the consistency of pudding or yogurt than clear liquids. I am trying to increase my intake. -
Clean out fridge -Preop 7/27/15
rln52 replied to rln52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started preparing for the days after surgery by cleaning house and finding products that are good tasting and on the diet plan. I found a Pacific Turkey Bone Broth with rosemary, thyme and sage. It comes in a small paper container with a twist off cap. 35 calories 9g protein 0 sugars 0 carbs. This does taste good and has saved me when I wanted something that reminds me of real food flavor. Also a Campbell's creamy chicken soup on the go. It has bits of chicken but I strain them out and eat half like a meal. Calories 65, sugar 0.5g, protein 3g and carbs 4g. This is also good. Each day I drink 2 unjury or Jay Robb whey chocolate protein shakes with skim milk and ice - makes it like slushy. I meet my 60g plus of protein. SF pudding & light yoplait yogurt (no fruit pieces) are my other snacks. It took a while but I found options and this has helped me so much. -
Same here. I even had to take MOM just to go every 3 days and it was super hard....even caused bleeding. Once I started adding insoluble fiber to my shakes and yogurt, I've had regular, soft daily BM's. For me, soluble fiber like Metamucil and benefiber did nothing. It had to be insoluble fiber. I currently use a mixture of ground flax seed and Now Foods apple fiber.
