  1. I was sleeved Monday (22nd). I'm on full liquids as well. I don't have any problem getting my thinner, watery liquids in but do have some difficultly with the denser liquids, Protein shakes, yogurt, malto meal Cereal etc. I can only handle 1-2 oz of those at a time. More than that and I feel like I have a bubble in my chest. I never feel "full" I just seem to be in a constant state of not being hungry. With that being said, 4 oz per hour is the minimum. My dr said 2 oz should be Water or water substitute like crystal light and the other 2 oz full liquids. It's ok to have more liquids than that, just slow it down and you'll be fine.
  2. Hello my fellow May sleevers! I don't think I have introduced myself yet. I'm in Detroit, Michigan and I am a band to sleeve revision. I was initially scheduled for a gastric bypass in March but I chickened out the week of surgery. My sleeve date is May 16th! I feel so much better about this decision. My docs office was a bit irritated with me but I have to do what is right for me! I have had my crap band for five years with little weight loss and I have been taking off and putting back on the same twenty pounds for the last six months. I'm just sick of it and I need to do something different. I've been trying to get myself ready so months ago I quit soda, carbonation, and caffeine. I also gave up alcohol almost completely (never thought I'd be able to do that). I've also learned to love yogurt which, until two weeks ago I could not stand! I made a list of what I will need and posted in a thread. I purchased my Vitamins, belly band, ear plugs, and eye mask for the hospital today. My goal is to get to the gym everyday until surgery so that I go in in the best shape possible. My doc does not require a liquid diet but I would really like to try to do one for a couple of weeks prior. I figure there can't be any harm in trying to keep my liver out of the docs way! My surgery will include gallbladder removal, band removal, hernia repair (caused by the crap band), and my revision to a sleeve so I am anticipating being in a world of hurt or as the coordinator at the surgeons office put it a "hot mess"! She has assured me they will get me through it. I look forward to sharing this experience with all of you and wish you the best of luck!
  3. Hell on earth? Basically.. some people's sleeves (mine included at least right now) cannot tolerate certain foods and when they eat those foods it causes immediate and severe diaherria, nausea, (and at least in my case vomitting). I'm talking where you're in front of the toilet and it's coming out both ends for several hours - at least that's my experience with it. However, you can avoid it by avoiding the foods that cause it if you ever experience it. For instance, Right now that means I can't have any ice cream (which is very sad as I love ice cream). I dislike yogurt but I found out that I do like frozen yogurt so I've been eating that to fulfill my ice cream craving (once in a while only!) and it's made it bearable lol. Sometimes dumping syndrome and the foods you can't eat fade over time post surgery for those who have it and sometimes they do not, but it's less common in sleeve patients than in gastric bypass patients. Foods that are likely to cause dumping syndrome include: any sugary foods or drinks, pastas, breads, rice etc. Wow. That sounds horrible. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

    Any Central Iowa Bandsters?

Follow what your doctor tells you after surgery. I think of my diet as a prescription. Ice chips and sugar free popscyles were good as I had a sore throat from the tube down my throat during surgery.I spent the night because I am slow to wake up after surgery always. I was a little dehydrated so got extra fluids. I only needed tylenol after surgery. Laying down and getting up is a little tricky. Using a pillow under my left side when I slept helped me. I went back to work two half days on days 7 and 8 after surgery and then full time the next week. I have been very tired the first part of this week but better as the week goes on. My surgeon says it is all normal. I ate cream soups, protein drinks, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello, applesauce, water, Crystal light, yogurt. I was not hungry as long as I had enough protein. I have lost 17 lbs which feels really good.I moved on to mushies at 14 days for the next two weeks. I hope your surgery goes well. You are very courage to take this action to improve your health. Carol
  5. I am sorry you are going through all this. Could you just eat out one time per day? Does your hotel room have a mini fridge? If so, you could get some yogurt or single serving cottage cheeses, or single servings of cheese. Even without a mini fridge you could get some fruit and some Protein bars. I've lived in places where ice storms knock out the power. That is certainly no fun at all!

    Can you freeze Greek yogurt?

Thanks Tiffy! I continue to be amazed at how devoted you are to all of us on this board. Checking last month's grocery receipts? You ROCK. Has anybody tried to thaw the Greek yogurt after freezing it? Some dairy products handle this fine, and some go to bits....I would really like to buy a month or two's supply at a time...

    Hungry

I follow the soft foods meal plan (stage 3), but I get hungry. One to two ounces of turkey doesn't cut it, even if it's followed by 1/4 cup of yogurt. And the "slice" of pear? I had a whole nectarine and was not uncomfortable. I'm finding myself reaching for a Protein shake or low fat string cheese to tide me over between meals. I know I'm not supposed to snack. Anyone else have this problem? Also, I'm on my 7th day of a stall. I am exercising and drinking my Water and taking Vitamins.

  9. I'm four days out and would do just about anything for cottage cheese or yogurt! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. And you are a newbie, too! That's great! So it just goes to show that everyone is different. (By the way...I thought I was the only goofball who said "honkers"! LOL) I feel fortunate that I can swallow all my pills, but if I had to crush them, the yogurt idea sounds like a perfect way to go! P.S. Is that YOUR dog in your avatar? WOW! He/She is something else! LOL I love dogs...have a black lab, a pomeranian, and a tortie cat who THINKS she is a dog. (Eats dog food, drinks out of the toilet, gives the dogs baths....retarded.) The pomeranian rules the roost, of course! LOL

yeah I'd say this recipe is waaaaay out of my plan. I bought some plain Greek yogurt today which I will try to doctor up. Maybe fruit or Stevia.

    Need a buddy.

I am a couple weeks further along than you. I eat pretty much what I want (as low fat as possible) Two weeks ago I was in a terrible stall. It was my third one but this lasted over a week. I eat what I want. I had to add a protein powder back into my diet. I got sick on a grilled piece of chicken and just can't seem to eat solid meats tonight I had about 1/2 of a tamale with 2 tlb spoon beanless chilli and 1 tlb spoon fat free sour cream. Lunch was 1 baked salmon patty with ketchup, breakfast a 80 calorie light and fit yogurt with 1 tlb spoon genepro protein powder.
  14. I had a hard time tolerating most shakes. What seemed to taste fine to me before surgery, was too sweet and rich after. Most of them gagged me. I wasted a lot of money. I finally found one I can drink. It is the "body by vi" protein drink. It is a high quality, easy to digest protein with lots of nutrition. The powder is 90 calories for 2 scoops with 30 grams of protein. It taste good by itself, but you can add frozen fruit, yogurt, etc. if you like. I personally like it without any additives. You can buy it from a rep if you know one but can also find it on amazon.
  15. Hi Jan. sleevers! My surgery was Jan. 7th. I couldn't wait until I was on soft foods, now that I am, it's a challenge, but I'm plugging along. I found my sleeve DOES NOT like pork. I'm not drinking Protein shakes (they just make me gag), getting most of my protein through food. Once in a while I have yogurts, but I'm sick of those too. I have been eating chicken, cheese, Beans and Turkey or chicken lunch meats that sit great in my stomach. I'm getting between 600-700 calories a day, but most days it's around 650. I walk daily for an hour, two days a week I walk 3.5 miles (we walk the lake). I'm so glad for the time change, now I can walk later and its still light out. It seems like I am able to hold less and less these days. My starting weight was 245, at my last appointment I was 207 (that was Feb), I won't know how much I weigh until my next appointment in April (I don't own a scale and don't want one). I do know I have dropped 3 pant sizes, 3 shirt sizes and 2 belt sizes (on notch 4 of 7 on my current belt). I'm taking all my Vitamins like a good girl. I refuse to buy new clothes, so I look a bit ridiculous with my baggy clothes, but I have my belt wrapped snug around my pants. I told myself I would splurge on month 5 or 6 (just in time for summer). It's strange seeing my reflection in the mirror when I walk by. I'm so used to seeing my stomach first. This transformation definitely takes some getting used to. Good luck everyone.
  16. I agree. Regular yogurt is just icky now. I stick with greek yogurt as well. If I want to add sweetness, I just add sugar free pudding powder, or sugar free syrups to sweeten it up. I still use it for all recipes that call for sour cream. I rarely buy sour cream anymore.
  17. I have tried them all, (and I usually buy according to what is on sale) but my all time fav has to be the Fage. LOVE IT. I've even tried the Kroger brand, blech, totally disgusting and not worthy of me even adding my SF syrup to. I already have one kiddo liking the Fage, just need to work on kiddo #2 (aka the picky sister). It's going to be a crazy yogurt bill around here on grocery day once hubby gets sleeved in March!
  18. I am 3 weeks post-op sleeve surgery and am concerned about stretching my "pouch". I know there may be a bit of stretching down the line, I just am so nervous. I did not have any pain at all after surgery, have had energy (not back to work yet though so that may change), and started walking (slowly) on the treadmill 2 days post-op. I have eaten very finely chopped up chicken already as well as eggs, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. I have not had that "full" feeling I have read about but I do know when I am satisfied and stop eating. I have not felt nauseous at all even the evening after the surgery. Are there others out there that have had it "easy" post - op? I have a super supportive family and I'm so excited about this new stage in my life. I just want to do it right.

    I need advice!

Ok... Had my first preop Dr. Apt yesterday and while I was happy that iv lost weight (10lbs in 2 weeks since surg) I'm not ecstatic about it. I expected more since I was on liquids for 2 solid weeks. My NUT and Dr said I probably would have lost more, but I'm not getting nearly enough calories in. So basically my body has shut down and is refusing to lose at a more rapid pace because I'm only able to get in 300-500 cal a day. AND to top it off, my doc said no gym until I get my caloric intake up. WTH So I guess my real question is, can anyone suggest high calorie meals that's aren't huge? NUT said it looks like I have a very tight sleeve, so it will be harder for me. Right now I can only consume about 1/2 an egg or 4 bites of cream of wheat or 1/4 a yogurt cup. Obviously not much at all. I'm just scared that if I don't start being able to consume more that my weight loss will not progress. I'm ready to get in the gym. I was sleeve as a tool, not to have it as a crutch. Sleeve Date: March 28, 2013 Weight on surgery date: 281 First Goal 50lbs: July 13, 2013 (231)

2 weeks post op and no restriction

It's normal to not feel much restriction the first several weeks following surgery. I sure can identify with that feeling that you need to eat something. When that urge hit me so strong I couldn't stand it anymore, I cooked some Cream of Wheat that I had put two scoops of chocolate Protein powder in, so it tasted like Malto Meal. Yum! Just make it kind of soupy -- you don't want to risk slippage of your band. One time I tossed in a sliced banana and cooked it with the Cream of Wheat. After being on liquids, I never had anything so good! Or try a small jar of baby meat. You will probably need to salt it, but it will taste real good. You should not be eating bread this early in the game - that is very risky! You could microwave a little frozen strawberries or blueberries, mash them up real well and add some skim ricotta cheese or greek yogurt and some artificial sweetner. Eat it slowly with a baby spoon. Make it last at least 15 to 20 minutes. I also had no problem with scrambled egg when I was supposed to be on liquid. You generally will lose a lot weight on the liquid diet because the lack of bad carbs may put your body into Ketosis. When I hit that stage, I was losing a pound a day. You can tell if you are in Ketosis because you will have a horrible taste in your mouth that you can't get rid of, and you may feel nauseated. Ketosis is how people lose so much weight who are on the Atkins and other low carb diets. It's okay to lose weight like that for a little while, but when I couldn't take it anymore, I ate a can of potato soup to take myself out of ketosis. Since I didn't feel any restriction the first weeks after surgery, my doctor gave me my first fill on my one-month followup. It helped a lot. Then he gave me my 2nd fill yesterday on my 6 week visit. I'm having a little trouble with too much restriction I think, because I'm having trouble even drinking Water. I have to eat and drink standing up, so I may have to go get the doc to take a little out of the band. Hang in there. Time will pass quickly. It's important that you let yourself heal before adding too many solid foods. Try one thing at a time to see what you can tolerate. It's different for everyone.

    Nausea?

Hi, My surgery was Oct 3 and I too have been having nausea. My mother is freaking out and wants me to call the Lap Band Center, of course. I think maybe it's just normal for some people. I have been only taking in liquid as well. I tried some yogurt but it was a disaster. Does this feeling go away?

    Snack Ideas.. help!

I change up my Snacks super frequently because I get bored pretty quickly. I've found that the 100 calorie packs are a little too expensive for my liking. So I'll buy a few different things each week. When I get home, I open the bag (or box) and portion them out into individual ziploc bags. That way everything is portion-set per bag and I don't have to think about anything in the morning when I'm still half asleep getting ready for work. I just grab stuff from the fridge and pantry and get on my way. I also keep a few things at work because that's where I get into trouble (if I don't come to work prepared, I eat HORRIBLY). Like everyone else, fruits and veggies are good. You can go back to kindergarden and rock some ants on a log (celery with pb and rasins), chips are my weak point so I don't indulge in them often but there's one called pirates booty (think cheese puffs but healthier) and those are great. Nuts. Granola. My favorite part about my grocery store is the bulk candy/snack aisle because I can make my own "trail mix" with sunflower seeds, nuts, dried fruits, et al. I usually throw a few m&m's in there to keep my sweet tooth happy as well. Snak paks are good but like anything else, get old after a while. Cheeses. Yogurts. Veggie chips. If you have a sweet tooth... try getting low fat cinnamon graham crackers and fat free cool whip. Split a graham cracker in half, make a sandwich using the cool whip in between. Put a bunch of these in a tupperware container and freeze them. The graham cracker gets a little softer and the cool whip freezes so it makes a make-shift ice cream sandwhich. No lie, they're REALLY good. Don't know the calories or fat but it's not high and I seem to remember it being very low. Definitely nice to mix it up at night when you need something sweet after dinner.
  23. Donna, Be careful with fast food. The McDonalds fruit and yogurt has tons of calories, its awful. I looked it up and I remember its real high. When in doubt, order brothy soups, no creamed soups, lots of fat. Good luck.
  24. I bought the Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein Powder at GNC (unflavored). It is 21 grams of protein per scoop. I mix it with my yogurt or sugar free Jello pudding. I have a protein shake in the morning (15 g.) and this in the evening (21g). The other 24 I easily get with the food that I am eating, and I'm only on the soft foods/mushie stage. Becky
