    Recommitting

In order to get to my lowest weight my band was to tight and while I did lose those 20 lbs I was very fortunate that I did not do permanent damage to my esophagus. I had to have a complete unfill and have a Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and found that my esophagus had dialated, the band fortunately was still in task but it would take several months to heal. During that time I regained quite a bit of weight. I also did not want to get a fill but got a small fill and still continued to eat more slider foods than I should of. I had not been on mediation for diabetes for 5 years and at the rate I was gaining it would not be long before the need for medication would begin Finally after going up two sizes from my lowest weight and getting Christmas gifts from my kids that I had to do everything that I could to keep it close led to my decision to recommit. Part of the commitment includes being active on this site. Having gone back to eating after 9:00 in the evening I had to make sure that I went to bed before 9:00 PM. I started using a smaller plate and spreading my cup of food around the plate so it would seem like I had more to eat. Putting my fork down between bites is a key for me and chewing and chewing and chewing. Taking the time to savor the food instead of worrying about the amount of food on the plate. Eating at the table and not in front of the TV has helped. Getting all my fluids in is very important. Since I was going to bed earlier that meant I get up earlier and started walking again. In March I was on a trip to Reno and I had acute pancreatic due from gallstones blocking the pancreatic so they had to go through the liver to reduce the swelling in the gallbladder and then remove the gallbladder. The whole experience reminded me of my mortality and the need to take care of my health. I also concentrate more on NSV’s than what the scale says. I am by no means the perfect bandster never have been but do want to be around to enjoy the grand children.
  2. Gamergirl that is a wonderful NSV, so where are the pics?
  3. TY! I've already a NSV or two of my own. Back in jeans from 4 years ago...goal is a size 10/12...whatever weight and time gets me there. But in another 17 pounds, I'll weigh less than I did when I discharged from the Navy in 1996!
  4. Sleeved in Seattle

Omg! Omg! I just fit into a size 14 dress!

I have now lost more weight, than I have weight to lose (lost 89 lbs; 88 lbs left to lose). I guess on the journey of weight loss, I'm now over the hill! Still have a long way to go. This forum has been a huge part of the journey, and I thank each one of you for being a big part of it!

    favorite NSV's/most anticipated NSV's

I had an NSV today, I started at 474+ lbs, I'm down 220 lbs, a friend threw me off balance today, she is a good 20 lbs heavier then I am now days... I've always been able to stand my ground... I wear an XL tshirt and not only do I not have to stretch them before putting them on, but the are lose!! I'm excited to see the number 254 even though it is the starting weight oh so many of my support group members! I actually have to turn down hand me downs because they would be too big for me.
  17. Congrats on another NSV. We have so many and never tell about things that others don't think is important to us.
  18. Here's a different NSV for you.... About 7-10 yeas ago I attended a seminar for Lasik Refractive Eye Surgery....after which I went through the pre-op testing to see if I was a candidate or not.... I was considered to be a candidate, but was talked out of it by the surgeons because I was a out of control diabetic, taking both daily injections and oral meds.....and all of the vision problems associated with diabetics was explained to me, and was told they were all coming my way....making the Lasik Surgery a waste of time and money.... Fast forward...I have lost ALL my excess weight and body fat%....my Diabetes has been totally reversed for 2 years now, no longer taking any med's....as are all my other past medical issues...(co-morbidities) I completed all of the pre-op testing yesterday, Phase 1,which took about a weeek.... and have entered Phase 2 this morning which is the 30 day pre-op protocol I need to follow....within these 30 days, a surgery date will be set... Making it no longer a need for Rx eye glasses or contacts!!! So, along with my new body I am now getting new "Eyes" I wish I had this weight loss surgery a long time ago...it has changed so many things in my life...this is yet another one added to my list!! I am almost 62 years old....going on 40 !!!

    Lying About LapBand

I have told no one about my surgery, other than the closest people in my life....at first it was awkward because everyone gave compliments and wanted to know how I was doing it....I simply said I don't eat nearly as much as I used to, gave up certain foods and food types entirely, focus on Protein and drink plenty of Water, and go to the gym everyday....all of which is true!!!! Only thing I held back is I used to be incapable of such a lifestyle and it is the band that now forces me to adhere to it now, without a struggle...making it easy and effortless.... That was over 2-1/2 years ago, coming up on 3......now, people who knew me before my surgery take it for granted I have always been skinny and fit...all of this is old news and I am accepted for what I am now....new people I have met over the last few years never knew I was ever fat in the first place...... So I do not have to explain myself to anyone, anymore....I guess that is the ultimate NSV....a successful journey....
  20. Good for you in making all of those positive life changes...you're very brave to do it all relatively at the same time and I admire your tinacity. I know it's hard, but you will only make it worse by worrying about how you're going to make it through. You've done great so far! You are now a non-smoker and before you know it, you will be a non-food addict! Don't worry about how you're going to do it...just take it one day, one hour, one minute and at times it might be one second at a time. Replace those urges to smoke or eat by sipping a cool glass of water, or writing a list of things you're looking forward to doing in the next 6 months to a year...anything to keep your hands and mind occupied. Start sewing...you'll need that skill when you start losing weight because shopping isn't going to be practical for a while for you. Meditate, go for walks, practice deep breathing and imagine helping your body to clear your lungs out from all of the old smoker's gunk. Get creative...just don't go back to any of your bad habits. The light is starting to shine at the end of the tunnel...just keep working your way there. We're waiting to hear your victory NSV's and other worthwhile accomplishments. Go you!

    New nsv

Well I went to my high school reunion over the weekend and on all the rush I forgot to bring myself anything to wear the day after while visiting family so I had to run to Wal-Mart to grab some jeans and a sweater, nothing fancy just cheap and something that FIT. Normally I would just steal my mom's clothes but I'm no where near the right size to wear them anymore. Anyway, I have been wearing 10/8 jeans depending on the cut bit I had noticed they weren't really sitting 100% so I tried on some 8s and they were too baggy so I grabbed a pair of 6s and left without even trying them on since my family was waiting for me. I got back to my mom's and reluctantly slipped on the 6s. They were tighter than I'm used to on my calves as I tried to pull them up so I did what I always have done and started to think of all the reasons why I didn't like the jeans anyway so it wouldn't hurt so bad when I was too fat for them... but they slipped up. And then they defied nature and buttoned... and zipped! And they FIT! Every day, every size, that passes is new uncharted territory for me. I've never been this small even in high school so it's exciting and terrifying! Lol but I'm enjoying the new jeans.

    NSV- I can run!

I have been working with a trainer four days a week for the past month and have really begun to see changes in my strength and endurance, and today, for the first time since I was 18, I ran 1/4 of a mile! I know that might not be a lot to some, but it was amazing to me. I have been doing sprints for the past few weeks, but today I really pushed myself and I was amazed that I could run that far. Not only did I run, I then did 15 minutes worth of free weights, 1000 crunches (yes, three zeros after that 1) and ended with 15 minutes on the stair master. Today was the hardest workout I have had in my life, and it was amazing! I still have a LONG way to go to get to my goal of participating in a sprint triathlon with my hubby, but I think that I might actually get there by next summer.
