    8 Days Post Op..

I was THRILLED to be moving to mushy foods! And the weight still came off. I was losing about 2 lbs a day on liquids; 1 lbs a day on pureed foods; and 1/2 lbs a day on solids. You will continue to lose. Just make good food choices.
  2. So I am really excited I have stopped taking a blood pressure medicine, but it seems like I'm gaining weight! The medicine is a diuretic so I assume it's Water weight. Who else experienced this?
  3. The first part (daily eating habits) is easy. Breakfast Poached egg on wholegrain toast or greek yogurt + muesli lunch Wrap or toasted sandwich or crackers with tuna/meat/cheese + salad veg dinner Meat/chicken or fish + veg + carb. Snacks include fruit(which I am trying to eat more of),yogurt, nut bar, slice of cold meat/cheese. The second part - why do I want to lose more is probably a lot harder to answer. One of the reasons I am sure is that having been on a diet for a huge part of my life it is hard to accept that I am fine and that I no longer need to diet. Also when we look in the mirror we tend to focus on our bad parts not the good ones. I see my stomach and that is what I would still like to lose.Unfotunately we cannot choose where we lose the weight. If I keep dieting my already skinny legs will just get skinnier and my stomach will probably remain proportionately large. The only solution is probably a tummy tuck and that is something I can't afford. I am probably the only person that notices my stomach because everyone else that I know always comments on how skinny I am.I don't think I am. So the mental adjustment required when reaching "goal" is actually quite big and its not something that a lot of us are able to do easily. I don't think I will ever stop obsessing about my weight - I still hop on the scales every morning!

    Vitamins Question

Thing is about vitammin deficiency is it creeps up on you - and you don't really get a chance to fix it often the damage is done. You really should be taking your Vitamins daily. You body does not take a Vitamin and use it in isolation - imagine a closet full of toys - it isn't like a hula hoop, you pull it out and use it. It is more like barbie - you need the dolls, and clothes, the house and the car and the beach party set and - you get the picture? all of this stuff has to come out to work together...now imagine it being a one-time only thing, you have to replace ti to use it again... Vitamin deficiencies open us up to immmunity disease, increased cancer risk, bone density and joint issue - and yes, how you body will look during and sfter weight loss (not to mention how you age and heal from sun exposure) literally everything you can imagine and then some... I have a chewable from Wal-mart that was recommended - Natures Own, and they are inexpensive and go down easy.

    bypass or sleeve?

I had the sleeve 07/08/2011. I have lost 100% of my excess body fat. I have a cousin who had the sleeve and he deals with bowel obstructions from having his intestines re-routed. I don't have to. He also has the issues with malnoutrition and foods he can't eat. I can eat anything I want and I have no malnoutrition issues. I lost 100% of my excess bodyfat and he has lost about 75%. My sleeve cannot stretch back to the size of my old stomach. His pouch can, which can allow him to re-gain all of his weight back if he doesn't be careful. Yes, I can eat around my sleeve, but I am going to have to make a conscience effort to sabotage myself. If you are committed to make a change, either surgery will get your weight down, for sure. I just didn't want the complications bypass brings to the table. Yes, there are risks with the sleeve as there are with all surgeries. But for me, the sleeve was the right choice.

    plateau help needed

I was banded on 6.29.09 and from my heaviest I am down 105 lbs. and down about 80 since surgery. I am more than thrilled with all that has left me and that I have never gained an ounce on this journey and I have been on one difficult journey. Two months after surgery my husband developed a staph infection on his foot that would not heal. Between 9/09 and 4/10 he was hospitalized 7 times with staph, MRSA, sepsis, silent heart attacks that resulted in having agents placed and multiple toe amputations due to the above infections. Of course once each and every specialist gave him a clean bill of health, my spouse of 34 years passed away on the evening of the last day of school, in the middle of a conversation with me. That certainly was not the way I pictured starting my summer break. Fourteen months later I had disc surgery in my neck, eight months after that a hip replacement ( on 2 yr anniversary of husband's death) and eight months later thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Since my hip replacement last June my weight has basically stayed the same even with a fill. I think I maybe down 5 lbs in the year. I have changed nothing except walking more each day! I want to go for at least 20 lbs more...even with surgery #4 scheduled for 6.21.13! I need ideas, suggestions ...help! I am beyond frustrated now to the point that cake and chips are looking good and they never were on my favorites list!

    Fill!!!

Your weight loss is going to be faster right after you are banded. I had my first fill after several years May 24th and went to the doc today. They did not give me a fill and I am at 7cc in my band. I dropped 12 lbs and they were very happy with that number, they are happy with a lb a week. So keep that in mind and do not get disappointed if you do not hit that same weight loss that you had initially. The higher weight you are then you will initially lose faster, then it usually will slow down. Ideal is 1-2 lbs a week, but you will see a difference in clothing/inches etc... Congrats on the 22lbs that is awesome!!

    almost there!!!!!

I am now allowing myself to get excited. I got a call 2 days ago that my surgery is going to be next week Sept 22, 2006. I just decided on my personal goals. Sept 22, 2006 267 lbs band date Oct 22, 2006 247lbs Jan 1, 2007 217lbs Jun 1, 2007 180 lbs Sept 22, 2007 167lbs. Maybe it is too much to dream of loosing 100lbs since I havent seen that weight since JR High. But this is a new advanture so dreaming high is what I plan to do.... :cheer2:  :Banane31: :Banane52: :Banane41: :Banane19: :Banane09: :not_ripe: :Banane29: :Banane39: :Banane49: :Banane27: :Banane16: :Banane05: :nanahump: :Banane47: :Banane25: :Banane14: :Banane02: :Banane24: :Banane13: :Banane03: :Banane12: :Banane33: :Banane43: :Banane21: :Banane10: All of this is what it might take to get me to goal!!!!!
  13. Hi everyone, I am Louellyn (Lou for short) from Kalgoorlie and I am a long time lurker but as of today am joining the ranks of the to-be-banded :-) I am on day 1 of the two week optisfast and have my operation booked in with Dr Watson on 1 April! I have been following the threads in here as I did enough research to convince myself that the band is the way to go. According to Dr Watson I have 81kg to lose to be the perfect weight for my height, but I doubt that I actually have the build to get to that figure - and it is impossible to imagine 65-68kg when you are 148kg! (gulp putting that in print). 99kg is my aim - oh to be double digits! You all seem so supportive of one another and I am looking forward to becoming an active member of the board! Now..hurry up 2 weeks so Optifast can end lol Lou :-)

    Excercise

I am almost 8 weeks post op, started walking immediately. It took a while to walk a mild but now I walk a mile ever other day. I was cleared for all exercise at 6 weeks but so far other that some toning using bands not taking to it. We have a gym membership ( I actually walk by the gym on some of my walks!) but I just don't like it... I just got a gold gym home gym. Lots of exercise putting it together. Paid $75.00 for it on Facebook, still in the box! Going to start alternating a toning day with a walking day. Hop my weight loss will sky rocket!

    Hair Loss

    1. Started losing around 3 months out 2. It was mostly just noticeable to me, I was freaking! 3. I was/am taking a multi, Calcium plus D and a hair/skin/nails B complex with 3000mcg of Biotin 4. The loss slowed down within three months 5. I was back to normal after six months. I can tell you what I was told and what seemed to ring true for me. In our case the hair loss is not always related solely to Vitamin deficiency but you need to eat well and take your Vitamins because regardless of whether you lost due to deficiency or not, the vitamins will help your body recover and help your hair to grow back. Often the hair loss is simply due to shock. You suddenly changed your diet, likely ate an extremely restrictive pre-op/ post op diet. On top of that, anesthesia and surgery can stress your system and now your diet is still restricted and you are losing a lot of weight. With all of this your body sort of goes into a shock mode. Your body puts all of its focus on processes necessary for survival and hair is not one of those things. Hair is on a 3-month cycle. So hair loss typically becomes noticeable at around 3 months. Once your body recovers (vitamins and a good diet aids in this), your loss will slow down and will begin to grow back within 3 months (again proper diet and supplements help it to grow and makes regrowth nice and healthy). My doctor assured me that not one of his patients went bald due to surgery and I found that all that he said was true for me.

    Any Word On Libido?

I'm glad to hear that!!!! All the meds I've been on (keep in mind I'm only 25 as of this coming sundday -- but i've been on and off a medley of prescriptions since i was 17 --) keep me from even thinking about getting close under the covers, yet alone actually wanting it. Poor hubby deals, but i know he gets miserable at times. So one of my secret hopes of this surgery is that losing the weight will make me want it more (preferably a lot more!!). Which in turn will make hubby happier!:clap2:

    meds and losing weight

You've lost 60 lbs since last month and you're dissapointed? I took Celexa, Wellbutrin, and Abilify (the first 2 antidepressants and the 3rd an antipsychotic) for about 18 mths following my surgery. No problems with weight loss at all. My psych tapered me off everything but the Celexa (and I've gone down in that by 1/2) in the past 18 mths and I'm terrific! Now, if I try to go off of the Celexa, I feel it, but that's no biggy to be on a microdose of antidepressants. I think once you start losing the weight, your brain chemicals and your life will get better, hence the tapering of my meds. So, no, I don't think any psych meds will hinder your ability to lose weight. It might make it a little slower, but you can still do it! Good luck! Marci

    meds and losing weight

I'm on a little bit of Seroquel to sleep and am trying to get off of it bc it affects cravings and weight. I heard that the worst psych med for WLS is Zyprexa. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    How much?

I've heard alot of different things. The most consistant thing I've heard is 800, but really, your doc would give you the best input here. I eat between 700 and 1200 per day... depending on the level of activity. I have started lifting weights and feel the need to "recover" some days. I think varying caloric intake can help with stalls too. Some people seem to really love the low carb route... I don't feel well when I restrict carbs so I eat some complex carbs like steel cut oatmeal and sweet potatos. I really think though... if you don't want to count every ounce.... if you just follow the rule of Protein first...then veggies, you'll do fine. good luck stacey

    Day 4 after surgery....

As I had mentioned before, I have bipolar disorder and I'm starting to feel it right now.... I feel depressed and confused asking myself why I did this.... Maybe I could have lost the weight some way.... I know my dr said not to weight myself but I did and I know i've lost 16 lbs in only 10 days which is great, but I'm just not excited right now. I'm still having horrible gas pains that wake me up in the middle of the night. I am not asleep more than 10 minutes sometimes that it wakes me up. The most i'll stay asleep is maybe 90 minutes max... that is really making me tired and because I'm not eating much I don't have much energy. I do walk around my house a lot to try to metabolize the gas like the DR said, but it doesn't take it away. I get hiccups which hurt too. I still have diarreha and the imodium is somewhat helping. We'll see how the rest of the day goes. I go back to work full time tomorrow and I hope I can manage....

I agree, you have lost more than weight, you look younger and you now have a "sparkle" in your eyes. Well Done :cake:
  25. When I began working out in earnest I gained weight as have many here. However, my body size reduced and I began looking and feeling better and gaining strength. So I quit working out because what the scale said meant more to me. Kidding.
