My hubby, who was not supportive of the surgery, has been a sweetheart. He just got me an ipad 2 as a gift for my first 25lbs. I am loving it all, the attention, the weight loss and the ipad 2 of course!!

    October 2019 sleevers

I was sleeved on Oct 15, 2019. I lost 50 lbs in the 6 months leading up to surgery, and weighed 242 on surgery day. This morning I weighed 176 lbs: 115 lbs lighter than I was at this time last year 🤩, and down 66lbs since surgery four months ago 😍. My BMI has gone from 55 to 32, and I'm physically able - and have enough energy - to do everything I want, including being active 7 days a week with hill hiking, race walking, distance cycling, squash, cardio, weights, sea kayaking, downhill skiing, etc. Currently I’m training for a triathlon (5km race walk, 400m swim, 20km cycle) in August, and will be walking the Camino de Santiago, a distance of 800km (500 miles) for 35 days in June. Though the surgeon set a goal for me based on the fact that I always weighed somewhere between 117lbs - 125lbs up until I was in my mid-30's, I don’t have any real expectations about how much I'll lose overall, nor do I have any specific timeframe in mind. I don't compare my loss to anyone else's since everyone's journey is different. Instead, what works best for me is to concentrate on being strong and fit and healthy, enjoying a whole foods plant-based diet, taking good care of my mind as well as my body, keeping a positive attitude, and looking for NSV's for validation and encouragement rather than at numbers on the scale. Happy sleevedom to all!
  6. For the first time in 15 years... I weigh less than my husband does. Sleeved 11/22, hw 297 cw 222. Little more than halfway to goal! So happy I did this!!!

I'm counting this as a NSV! Maybe..

These are always my *favorite* NSV stories... CONGRATS!! Now get ya some smaller clothes. :biggrinjester:
  8. Another in a string of non-scale victories (which is good, because the scale has been lazy lately). I was putting fresh sheets on the bed and when I flicked my wrist, smoothing the sheets out, my wedding ring flew off. It's been feeling loose for a few weeks, but this time it flew across the room and hit the wall. I don't want to get it sized yet, because I'm only about halfway done losing weight, but I guess I'll move the ring to my middle finger for now. Yay!
  9. Probably better than I expected. I have sort of expecting the Band to not work for me. but like Jessie says, "what makes me think I'm so special?" I've lost 30 pounds, and I can't help but want to put the "only" before the 30 pounds. Good gravey! I've lost 30 pound in 4 months! I didn't gain any weight! I LOST weight! I've had countless NSV (okay, I can probably count them) but my DH was banded before me, so I kind of knew what to expect. I dont' know if I answered your question.
  10. I am a teacher at a high school and a student today says to me as I am walking down the hall and I quote "You are gettin skinny. You on crack?" I was like thanks for the compliment and insult at the same time! I did laugh though and was happy that he has noticed my hard work.

    NSV Top 10 Wish List

LOVE this topic!! I am about 7 months post-op, but I created a NSVs wish-list when I was pre-op. Here is the list and how I am doing so far ... 1. Weigh less than my husband DONE! 2. Wear something in a smaller size than when I graduated HS (20+ years ago) DONE! 3. Give away all clothing that starts with a #2 (28, 26, etc) DONE! 4. Shop in something other than a plus store/department .... Kind of for jeans that I like, but not for long as they are now getting baggy in the butt! 5. Buy/wear tall boots DONE! And Skinny jeans too! 6. Buy/Wear a "little black dress" and actually have it be little 7. Walk more than a mile without being breathless DONE! I am now walking 5K races. 8. Fly without needing a seat belt extender .... Hopefully when we go on vaca! 9. Go parasailing ... This summer, for sure! 10. Go mountain biking ... as soon as the weather is nice enough! One that was not on my list, but just recently happened ... being called "skinny"!! Totally loved it, although I do not consider myself skinny.
  14. I just want to share, now that I have finally broken through my carbohydrate-binge after entering Onederland May 13th (and celebrating with occasional chips and ice cream). Because of my own actions--and the pull of carbs, causing hunger and cravings!--I got stuck in the 190s for two freakin' months. But I regrouped and finally got back on track last week. This morning I was 189.6! That's still too close to 190, but I'll take it; and I've been a really good (and motivated) girl all day. With my next milestone goal of 175 [hopefully by September], and the 180s now in view, I purged another component of my past weight-battle life: I gathered ALL the weight-loss crap/diet supplements I had around the house, in cabinets, and dumped them in the trash can [see picture]. Sensa. Xenadrine. Boxes of Optifast shakes and chicken Soup. Medifast. Venon (diet pills). Some other stuff--some chemicals that work on the brain to affect mood and the satiety center, etc. A bunch of stuff. It felt good to say "no more!!" Another NSV. Yeah. This reinforced a life lesson: It's easier and better to not get into trouble [don't even start the bad carbs], then to try to get out of it [fighting cravings].

    Stairs NSV

I went with my mom and sister to a musical tonight and the parking garage elevator was packed after the show. So I decided to take the stairs 6 flights up instead with my mom. Last year, before surgery, we did the same thing and she left me puffing on the stairs a full flight behind her. THIS time, I was a full flight ahead of her, with her puffing behind me. I tell ya, that felt awesome- even though she's 65 with arthritis cancer and Chrohn's disease and premature senility. Lol. (My mom wanted me to add this. ... She's still really fit for 65 though!

    NSV

Other than me regularly marveling at how little I eat, I just produced my first garbage bag full of clothes that are too baggy now. It feels good to be donating and making room in my closet! The best part is I am still relatively new so I know there are many more NSVs to come!

    Funny non-scale victory

Other NSVs to watch out for, that maybe you aren't expecting: Your shoes will start to feel sloppy big, and your bed will feel like it got bigger.

    Junior

I think my head is starting to catch up with my body. I am slowly connecting the dots that I have lost over 70lbs. At first people would say, you look great, you have lost weight. And I would nod and say yes I have, but in my head I still felt like a big girl. Well that mental concept seems to be disappearing. I was in walmart last night and I was actually in the junior's section fitting L(12/14). Now I don't know what that equates to in other sizes but in my world that is pretty unfreaking believable. People I am talking about Junior size clothing. I am estatic. I am wearing one of the outfits that I purchased last night, at work today and I feel that the belle of the ball. Talk about a NSV!!!!
  19. Ok, I've had to do some journaling to stop and change perspective. Instead of focusing on what's ahead of me, to focus on what's happening today and what I've done this week. 1) Stopped drinking alcohol and I have only wanted to have a drink last night when **** hit the fan at home. 2) Stopped drinking soda and didn't miss it, crave it or anything. 3) Have gotten better about watiting at least 30 min between eating & drinking fluids 4) Consistenly getting about 68 oz of fluids each day 5) Reduced my caffiene intake (on 1/2 caff, not extra bold) coffee. I had caffeine withdrawal one day, and I've been fine since 6) Started exercising each day on my bike at home. 7) Started logging my food again and wearing my fitbit 8) Writing in my journal daily about EVERYTHING! That's a lot ot accomplish and I'm just gonna focus on this for today!
  20. Thin out your shakes with milk or water. Have you tried Isopure or Syntrax nectar protein drinks? They have the consistence of water. Try broth with added unflavored protein powder. Warm stuff went down better for me. And for heaven's sake, stay off the scale! Sounds like you have very unrealistic goals. How is 36 pounds in less than a month a "slow" weight loss?!? Took me 3 months to lose 30 pounds and I was thrilled with every single ounce. And I only stepped on the scale about 6 times in those three months. Quit obsessing over the numbers, concentrate on getting in all of your nutrition, relax and enjoy your NSV's.
  21. Everyone has a food vice, some chocolate or pizza. Mine is Taco Bell. I closet ate the stuff like it was going out of business. I travel a lot and made sure to stop there whenever possible. During my pre op self choice of a diet, I was coming home tonight and I decided I had a craving. I've been pretty good and lost about 15 lbs in two+ weeks thus far. When I got in there I had a huge feeling of guilt. I decided to do something I've never done... Order a salad (Fiesta chicken salad to be specific). I didn't know what was on it so I just said no shell. Amazingly it was the best thing I ever ate there! (I typically have much better taste in food, but I don't know why but I love it there). I couldn't even finish it! I ate about 3/4 of it and decided to see how crappy it was on myfitnesspal.com, and the whole thing was only 400 calories (cheese and sour cream included, which I'll ditch next time)! My old taco bell outings when I calculated them were about 2000 calories, now I left feeling awesome with a better tasting product for about 300. I know it may sound stupid, but it was a big light for me. When I get banded next month, it can easily be converted to band friendly by ditching the little bit of rice they add. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. But I was quite happy.

Sort Of A Nsv Conquering My "nemesis"

That is wonderful - making those changes PRE-band is a good indicator of how you'll do after! I have not tried any fast food yet, but will keep the Fiesta items in mind if I'm ever in need of some quick meal ideas! I say GOOD FOR YOU on your 1st NSV!!
  23. Hi, I am looking for a couple of people who would like to join my little support group. So far our group consists of : Me- I was banded in November and have lost 35lbs. My Sister- She had the by-pass surgery 2 weeks ago. My Mom- She is scheduled for the Lap-band. A couple of our kids who are over weight and we're taking them on this journey with us! I have created a website where I post a suggested menu for the week. We do weekly weigh ins, post food and exercise journals, share recipes and NSV's with each other. Basically it's a very family oriented support group/website. If you would like to join, let me know and I'll send you a link to join our group. Good Luck to all.....We can do this!!
