Odd NSV but I'll take it!

OMG I just noticed that the other day and was thinking I must be crazy! I was trying to figure out how my seat got lower. Never thought it was my tushy that was smaller. Awesome NSV I must say. Now how to adjust my seat? Will I need a booster seat when I get to goal
  2. I've always thought Hue makes the best opaque control top tights. But at sizes 4 and 5 they only come in black and brown. Today I fit into a size 3 of a grey pair I bought long ago for "just in case." Now I'll be able to get purple and pink and orange and blue and every color under the sun!!! Yay!!! (Not that I will get orange . But I can!!) Yay!!

    Nsv--While In Jamaica!

You got to love those NSV! “YahMon” Way to go, keep rocking that sleeve!
  4. I've noticed the same thing with some foods. Unfortunately, I'm occasionally not as smart as you and I have to take a few bites trying to convince myself that I still "love" the food. I guess my NSV would be that I've recently learned to let it go after a bite and not liking it. It doesn't always happen, but I'm working on it. Congrats on your successes! Amanda

    Stairs!

Thanks to some genetics and my weight, I have rather bad knees and back problems. The result was I would get really tired just going up one flight of stairs - and would try to avoid them whenever possible. I couldn't walk more than 5 minutes without getting winded. I couldn't even stand in place for 5 minutes without breaking out in a sweat. Then I had VSG. Today - just 2.5 weeks after surgery, I was moving some stuff into my new apartment. I totally forgot about the stairs. There are 4 steps up to the front entrance, then 8 more down to my floor. I did all 12 steps at least 8 times today (both ways - so 16 times total I suppose)! I also unpacked my trunk twice taking stuff into the apartment and putting it away immediately. For me, this is a MAJOR NSV! Boy am I tired now though. Oh, and because I forgot to pack my lunch, I stopped at Big Boy for lunch (plus I wanted to sit in air conditioning for a bit - my apartment has air, but no furniture yet). I ordered the Grilled chicken dinner that came with 2 sides (I chose cottage cheese and baby carrots). My eyes are still bigger than my stomach. I barely made it through the cottage cheese (which was about 1/2 cup). So, I asked for a box when the waitress brought my meal and immediately packaged up the chicken and the carrots that turned out to be glazed carrots. I left the roll on the plate. My "doggie bag" will be at least 3 meals for me - I just have to puree it first. So although I'm really tired, I am proud of myself today. Now to rest up a bit (my back is really bothering me right now, so I'm resting) and then re-pack the car with more stuff for moving tomorrow. At least tomorrow my furniture will arrive at some point in the afternoon, so I'll have a chair to sit on!
  7. Ok so it was only in my back yard and in front of my hubby, mom and kids, but I did it!! A bikini top and 'boy' shorts (I think that is what they are called)! And when I walked past the sliding doors to the dining room, I had to walk back a few times to make sure I was really me! except for the scars on the tummy from surgery, I couldn't tell it was me! I wanted to cry! I purchased the top to wear under the sundresses that i got for vacation next week because I cannot stand to have my bra straps hanging out, and do not like the way the teens let theirs hang. I think that looks trashy! And at my age, I really do not need my bra showing! So I figured a bathing suit top looks much better! The girls may be empty sacks of skin, but they still need lots of support (c cup)!!!!! Only 4 pounds to a NORMAL BMI!!! and my personal OFFICIAL GOAL!!!!!! I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!
  8. Love those kinds of NSV's!

    Over Disclosure

It was really hard for you to take credit for all the hard work you've down. I'm happy that you recognize it and have decided to make a change up and just say thank you. If they ask further, just tell them that you've reduced your portions and am exercising.....Because that's he truth. At least that's what I've decided to do for myself, especially in the beginning. In fact we were in the mountains and a lady was telling my DH and myself a great place to eat and that they give you a lot of food. I caught myself telling her that I have decided to eat smaller portions and smiled. Boy was I surprised. Now that's an awesome NSV for me......
  12. I am sooo open...I have had intermittent sips for 0 minutes now and nothing has come back up....wow...I am a human being again!!!!!...whoot, whoot!!!! Sent from my iPad using VST

    Big Nsv!!!

I was banded last Thursday by Dr. Alldredge and I must report the 1st NSV (Non-Scale Victory): I am officially off of caffeine! I have been a Caffeine addict since I was a young child. I have not had a sip of soda, nor will I succomb to my worst vice!! I began to wean myself a week ago, then had my last drink on Weds. night. Headache from hell!!!! Thank goodness for the liquid drugs on Thursday thru Sat. I have been taking 500mg of Tylenol twice a day since. I feel great! My band will be my tool to rise above it all!!!!! Good luck to all of the rest of you!!!

    My 1St Nsv

That's terrific! My NSV this week was being able to tie my shoes without worrying that I had roughly 30 seconds before I passed out. Yay me!
  15. I was banded November 29, 2010 and have lost about 50 pounds in the 13 weeks since being banded. So far some of my NSV are that I can cross my legs at the knee for the first time in awhile. I have knee socks to wear with boots, that I can actually wear up to my knees. I no longer have to fold them halfway down! I have one size of jeans left in my multi sizes closet before I have to buy new clothes. My seat belt fits so much better, and my whole butt fits on the chairs at my school! These are completely silly little things you don't think of not being able to do until you can do them again, and I feel great What are some of the silly things you forgot about until you were able to do them again?
  16. You are still recovering from surgery so your weight will likely fluctuate for a few weeks (although overall should be going down). I think as we start using up the glucose in our fat cells it can cause some fluid retention which causes our weight to go up temporarily. Don't weigh yourself everyday - it's the fastest way to de-motivate yourself if you don't see any movement, or only upwards movement. I "gained" five pounds after surgery but have been slowly losing since then. It's best to pick one day a week for an "official" weigh in (for me it's Monday morning) - don't worry what's happening the other days (easier said than done!). Stick to your post-op diet, walk as much as you can, and distract yourself by doing other things. Make a list of non-scale victories (NSV) that you can track or look forward to, like fitting into smaller clothes, being able to sit on a bus/subway seat with enough room for another person to sit beside you (and not touch them!), seeing your collarbones again, being able to fit into smaller/former shoe sizes since your feet may have been too big/swollen from years of being overweight (this was a big one for me), being able to wear heels again without being in pain, not needing a seatbelt extender when flying, etc, etc. You can also make a list of "rewards" or future plans to look forward to. Like, when you lose your first 10 or 20 pounds. 50 pounds. 100 pounds. Making it to "onederland" (under 200 pounds). For example, for me, once I hit goal weight (or near it), I'd really like to do a physical challenge that I really couldn't do before because of my weight (and therefore my knee and back problems). So climbing Kilimanjaro and walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain are two bucket list items that I would like to do once I lose the weight (and save the money) to do so. Having a really great makeover (hair, makeup, clothes, everything) is something else I'd like to do. Another thing to remember is that (I think, for all of us), we didn't gain weight every single day as we were overeating or making poor food choices throughout our lives, it was a gradual, but steady, increase over time. Same with losing weight. It's not going to happen every day in a steady decline. Some days (or weeks! It will happen eventually) the weight may not move at all, or may go up a little. But stick to the plan, try not to fall off the wagon no matter how tempting, and the weight loss will be steady over time. Not every day, but it's happening.
  17. Thanks guys I definitely have several NSV's... Joined soccer again after not playing for 5 years due to my weight. I fit into the dress I wore to Grade 8 graduation (when I was fairly thin) I have done a 5k walk, when I couldn't even walk around the corner without having my feet kill me. This is a weird one, but I had trouble finding comfortable shoes, I was a size 8 and sometimes had to go to 9 or 10 for the width. No I am a size 7 and shoes fit amazing! I took anxiety medications before and could not ride public transit alone. Now I am medication free and have no problem taking a bus or a train. But by far the biggest NSV I have had is being able to walk down the street and hold my head high, not worry what people think about me, and not being paranoid that everyone laughing is laughing at me. As I have shed the weight, I fell in love with myself again (let me be clear it wasn't only because the weight loss, it was because my mentality changed as well). It is the best feeling in the world to build yourself back up to feeling like you have worth. Every time I worked out, I would tell myself it is because I am worth it, and that is how I gained some confidence. I do still have moments where I am insecure, that will always be there, but the difference is astonishing. As for extra skin - Yes, I do have extra skin on the boobs, stomach, butt and arms. But it isn't that bad, I will probably need surgery purely for cosmetic reasons, but not bothering until after I have kids. It isn't enough skin to cause any discomfort or hygiene issues.

    Cleaning out my closet!

Yayyy you! I dont have the guts to purge the closet all at once, but I am getting rid of things here and there. I really should take a page from your book and ditch the baggy stuff, because honestly, it looks awful... Lol. Congratulations on the nsv :-D

    Help me I'm scared

I had the same feelings. I just kept going over all of the reasons that I had gone through the process in my mind. I kept looking at the lists of NSVs and before/after pics on here. Two months later, I am happy and never looking back. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  23. @@QueenA yep airplanes stories are great no bruises, able to buckle can't get much better than that you'll enjoy many, many more wonderful NSV's greet each one with a true sign of continued success pre-WLS i tried to "hide" the fact that i couldn't buckle my seat belt the attendent discreetly leaned over to me with an extender i felt so horrible, embarrassed (at least she was nice) after a lot of weight loss, i sat in the middle of a 3 people i just "plumped" down in the seat there was so much room on each side of me - no embarressment sitting so close to two others really cool feeling you've lost 39 lbs!!!! keep up the great job (i know you will ) good luck for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life kathy congrats
  24. So tonight I was taking a bath and I realized that I fit in the tub a whole lot better. My hips are not stuck up against the sides as much and the water actually flows behind me. BUT more importantly, when I looked in the mirror afterwards, I could actually see my girl parts for the first time in 3 years. Lolol
  25. You might recall my Labor Day goal that I posted in a blog entry awhile back. That goal was 235. As of this morning, I am 240.5. I think I can do it, kids!!! I originally thought it would be a stretch but it appears to be close at hand. Honestly anything in the 230s will make me pleased as punch. I am going back to Indiana that weekend to see my parents (It is also my Mom's birthday on the 30th) and I know they will be proud of my weight loss. They have not seen me since Memorial Day. That was only a few weeks post surgery, maybe 25 lb lost. Now I'm over 70 lbs lost. My Dad is utterly fascinated by the whole thing. He and I have always struggled with our weight. So he is really happy that I am losing so much and being so successful. He says he is too old to have such a surgery (he's 72, but I think he could do it just fine, we tend to be good healers), so I think he is living vicariously through me. Yesterday I had my belated 3 month visit. Dr. Hungness was so pleased with my progress. He actually seemed quite floored when I told him I am in the gym 5 days a week. I seem him again in three more months - so six months post op. He said they will be doing some labs. We'll find out if my vitamin D level has recovered. Although my nurse practitioner will probably be drawing for my HgA1C sooner than that since she manages my diabetes. She usually tests for Vitamin D and most of the tests he will be looking for. My daily sugar levels continue to be good. In the mornings I used to always be scary high. Now I am consistently between 85 and 110. I had an exercise related NSV while at the gym yesterday. I used to always get pins and needles when I used the elliptical after about 15 minutes. Basically it was like my feet were falling asleep. I used to struggle to do 20 minutes on it - not because I was exhausted, but because the pins and needles were so painful. Yesterday I was on the elliptical for 35 minutes. I realized about 30 minutes in that the pins and needles were not happening at all. So clearly that issue was due to me being over 300 lbs. And, I got this outfit from fabletics.com (my apologies if you cannot see it): http://www.fabletics.com/index.cfm?action=shop.viewproduct&featured_product_location_id=0&product_id=1439782&psrc=my_looks&master_product_id=1439782&original_master_product_id=1439782 I wore the tank to the gym yesterday. It was a little bit exposing. But no one looked at me strangely. No one said I was too fat for it. There was no side eye! I'm just so happy to have more choices in gym wear!
