  1. I'm finally mustering up the guts to ask for help. I am 5' 2" and I had gastric sleeve at 205 lbs. My struggle with weight has been life-long. I dropped down to 155 and I was actually quite happy there, as I was down to a size 10. I consumed about 900 cal/day at that point. Everything went to hell in a handbasket when COVID hit. I truly do not mean to make excuses, because there are none, but there were situational issues. My husband was hit severely early on in the pandemic, the kids were doing remote schooling, I was out of a job, I wasn't exercising and I chose to deal with all of this by getting diet sloppy. And the weight has just been creeping up. I am now at 190 lbs. What's even worse, is that according to the 13cal/pound calculation, I would need to eat 2470 calories per day in order to maintain a weight of 190lbs. I don't come close to that. I average 1600, and usually not even that much. My metabolism has always been a problem, which I suspect lots of people can identify with. I have tried Keto and Atkins on and off, but they are not sustainable for me. I read up on Pouch Reset, but then also read about the weight regain. I'm considering intermittent fasting, or simply using my Baritastic app and dropping it to 900 cals. I even looked into a revision, but that wouldn't solve the core issues, which I can't even identify at this point. I'm so ashamed by this. I've made a mess of this but at the same time, I'm committed to fixing this problem. Help? Thank you...
  2. Which store please? Also a massive cauli fan here - hangover from my keto days when I must have eaten it almost every day in some form. And celeriac (celery root). Makes nice pretend fries baked in the oven with oil, and also very low carb and low calorie. I have never tried cauli as wings - definitely gonna give that a go - thank you for that idea!
  3. 20grams does seem low. That's Keto number right there. Wouldn't know how to do that when you're consuming fruits and vegetables. And even dairy in my case. Did your program needed you to consume the fruits and veggies along with protein?

    Actually I am glad to have had this surgery. I think during pre-Op diet and even during the post-Op clear/full liquid phases, I was obsessed with watching YT videos of yummy Indian food. Buy now 6 weeks post-Op, those thoughts have died down and so have the yummy food videos. It gets better. Trust me, it will. Also like @ShoppGirlmentioned, when it gets overwhelming have a spoonful kf your favorite food. As soon as I was able to allow soft/regular diet, I had some of the restaurant Indian curries. Ofc didn't go crazy. But I had a spoonful of it. Also had little of cake, chocolate, chips etc. Again make sure not to go overboard. Anyhow, once I tasted those foods, it kinda worked to make me realize, I'll eventually feel normal and would be able to tolerate some of my favorites in small quantities ofc. I used to be obessed with the mentality *one more day of binge eating and then I'll diet* That went on for a decade. Binge, diet, binge, diet. It was a vicious cycle. While post-Op is a new journey all together. I don't get those tendencies anymore. I feel satisfied having little bit of everything I can tolerate than restrict myself or deprive myself. I think deprivation leads to disastrous results. Reason why most diets never worked for me. Keto, avoiding carbs etc etc wasn't me. I wanted something that can break the vicious cycle and surgery did it for me. Yes first month or even 2 or even 3 may be worse, but it gets better. Anyhow, sorry about the ramble lol. But I hope you get the gist of what I was trying to say. Day at a time, stick to the program and your thoughts too will rewire. I think many out here will agree with it. Good Luck with your journey 😊

    I would really consider what your real goals are, 160 seems realistic. Many on here have said the last 10 are the hardest. I wouldn’t try anything extreme unless you’re going to do it the rest of your life to keep it off. Look closely at what you could shave off of food. Could you eat one less bite at each meal? Could you mix up your exercise routine? They body responds when we try new things. Have you met up with TOPS or WW? Do you have a group or friend to have a friendly competition? Sometimes I watch 70lbs of life on YouTube. She has an online Weightloss challenge. I personally just broke a stall by reintroducing rubber bands on one lifting day, leaning into keto, and now use a noise machine for better sleep. Hopefully I’ll get your problem of the last 10 by next year. Good luck.
  6. Hey there everyone. New here, but I figure you all have more wisdom than I do. I am having such a hard time! I am currently sitting in the 170's. Usually around 172-174. I am 5'5", and an athletic build. For instance, I wear a size 6 sometimes a size 4. I started out my weight loss journey at 280, but my SW was 241. I workout often, and eat around 1200 calories a day, but for some strange reason I have literally not moved in over 2 months. I forget how long now, but basically since October when I hit the 170's. Im feeling very frustrated. I don't know what to do differently. I track, I drink my water, I do weight lifting, I follow my plan that my nutritionist gave me. (most days). And yet, nothing. Is it possible my body is at my set weight? I still feel like I have a lot to lose. I have a lot of loose skin, but I definitely have at least 20 lbs of fat left to lose. I don't know how I could do things any differently. Im thinking of trying Intermittent fasting, or maybe Keto. or both. But I just don't know. I am at a loss. Do you guys have any advice? I can't afford to reach out to my NUT right now, (I don't have one with a program, I have to pay out of pocket), so I am following her getting back on track program, which is high protein low carb. But even that isn't making the scale budge.

    I tend to use the premade Premier Protein 30g shakes (for convenience and because they have the right consistency for me), but if I do use a powder, I use Keto Chow. They have enough different flavors to keep me from getting too bored.

    Yes, Pinterest is a great source. There are also recipes on a site called SkinnyTaste that cater to dieters and weight loss including keto, paleo, weight watchers, vegetarian, etc. Thanks for sharing.

    How did you figure out if you had dumping syndrome?

    It’s really strange but I’m 6.5 years out from VSG and I get all those dumping symptoms sometimes 3-4 hours after eating. It doesn’t seem to matter what I ate, although I’ve noticed peanut butter seems to do it frequently. I’ve been eating low carb/semi-keto for months so I’m not sure why it’s happening. I’m going in for a ph and manometry screen soon, hopefully that will give some answers!

    Reading labels.

    EASY VERSION: As a general rule, as long you get your proteins and keep track of your calories, you're fine. In simple terms, aim for 1 gram of protein per 2 lb / 1 kg you weigh. If you're a 200 lb dude, you're going to want 100g of protein. And so on. Find your calorie sweet spot depending on where you are on your journey. No, nobody has a sweet spot of 400, and almost nobody at 4,000. Somewhere in between. INTERMEDIATE VERSION: There's no doubt super quick sugars are not the best idea, but the idea that carbs are the enemy is utterly ridiculous. Remember all the people you know on keto who've been on keto for 20 years? Yeah, neither do I. Because they never exist. It's not a natural way to eat (no, really). Bottom line: if you're not doing ultra-low carbs, you don't need to worry. I've lost 169 lbs without thinking one time about carbs. I do tend to make conscious choices about how much super quick sugar I want. Americans, check your bread. The sugar factory dropped 6x as much in there as we get in Europe (yes, literally).

    Carnivore Diet

    Is anybody here familiar with the Carnivore Diet? It's basically a more restrictive form of Keto where you ONLY eat meat, cheese, fat, and butter. The more meat the better. The fattier the meat the better. It sounds counterintuitive to eat this type of diet, but there are several doctors out there who recommend it to help reverse diabetes and fight inflammation. While it's impossible to have zero carbs, the goal is to have as few as possible, less than 10 per day, and consume no bread, fruit, vegetables or anything other than "meat." Now, I must say that I had/have my doubts about the healthiness of this diet. That being said, my husband has been on it for 4 months and lost 35 pounds and his A1C and morning fasting glucose levels are now within normal range. He is going to continue on the diet, or as he calls it, "way of life." I did it with him for 3 months and I lost 20 pounds, but toward the end I was having a lot of diarrhea and my body couldn't handle/process all of the protein and fat without some carbs, so I switched to a new diet in mid-December. Dr. Ken Berry is the person my husband follows on YouTube who explains the science behind it and how to do it. He also said that 1/3 of people can't do it because of their particular body's need for carbs for proper digestion. Anyway, I was curious if anybody here was familiar with the Carnivore Diet or had tried it or was doing it?
  12. Yes, I'm bouncing back and refocusing. I gained some COVID weight in 2020 and 2021 and was embarrassed so I haven't been on this site, but I started doing Keto/Carnivore in September and lost all the COVID weight by Thanksgiving. The Carnivore diet was successful but was giving me chronic diarrhea so I switched in mid-December to Weight Watchers' new Personal Points program. Evidently I needed a few carbs to make things function properly. It's going well, I'm not losing weight as fast yet, but I haven't gained any. Focusing back on why I had the WLS in the first place and on my original goal weight for 2022. It's never too late to be healthy.

    “Real” food vs Bariatric foods

    I am just over 3 months out and most days I am able to get all of my protein from whole foods. I always eat my protein first, then veggies if I have room. At this point, I'm still not eating any starchy veggies or simple carbs, simply because I don't have room for them after my protein & fibrous veggies. Occasionally, my restriction is higher which further limits how much I can eat, or if I'm out and about, I'll drink a shake or have a protein bar, but that's definitely not the norm anymore. As for bariatric foods, I do not and have never used them. When I decided to have surgery, I committed to eating regular, whole foods as much as possible and completely get rid of "diet" foods. I don't do keto/bariatric/low carb/low fat/whatever diet foods or substitutes. I didn't have surgery to eat crappy diet food for the rest of my life; I want to eat GOOD food. Stuff that tastes good and is good for my body. That is just a personal preference though, and lots of people use bariatric foods with great success and truly enjoy them. You have to find what works for you!
  14. I’m reposting this cause I put it in the wrong forum. I had my bypass over 20 yrs ago and have struggled from day one to eat protein, especially meat and beans. They make me throw up or they just sit there and fester in my tummy. I’m doing a keto diet cause it makes me feel better not to eat bread and pasta. My family doc doesn’t know anything except broken bones and colds so I don’t know what to tell him I need checked. Has anyone had this issue? I have lost so much hair the last few months because I need protein and I can’t seem to get enough. I’m also milk intolerant. Any suggestions?
  15. I had a full gastric bypass over 20 yrs ago and have struggled to eat any meat. I needed to lose almost 100 lbs because of heart issues and that worked out well, but have since gained just a few back. I am now losing so much hair because I can’t get enough protein. I am doing keto because it makes me feel better not to eat breads and beans. Anybody struggling with this that has had the surgery a while ago? I can’t drink enough protein. My family dr doesn’t seem to know much about more than broken bones and colds. HELP, I’m going to go bald if I can’t fix this. Any suggestions for my doctor?
  16. The end of 2021 is upon us! I can't believe how FAST this year went. Anyone here planning to 'get on track', 'refocus', 'reset' etc in 2022? I fell off the rails a bit in the last several months and looking to get myself back on track. I've been doing very traditional keto level eating for the last 5 years but I would really like to go back to a more traditional 'bariatric' style eating with lower fat etc. Would like to keep my carbs low but really focus on protein again and I honestly don't really remember what that would look like-having been so submerged in traditional keto for the last several years.... Anyone have any good resources for this? I never reached my ultimate goal (came within 20 lbs). Had a health scare and although it's under control I do have some weight that I would still like to move off.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    Sleeved 11/29 Down 20 lbs at one week appt. Started on soft diet. On soft diet 2 weeks- down 10lbs. So far so good. I noticed that I fell back on my Water once I started on the soft, and I could tell. So I worked on that and back up. I'm comfortable at 3-4 ounces of Protein but that's as far as I can get. I'm severely lactose intolerant so I can't eat "regular greek yogurt". But I found this yogurt by Ratio its Keto friendly and it doesn't bother me at all.its a thicker consistency and definitely filling. 4 oz and I'm done.. I use Isopure for my Protein Shakes it's whey isolate and doesn't bother. I can use Atkins but not everyday. It's a process learning what works and what doesn't. Definitely not boring!! [emoji23] I went back to work on 12/20 and was exhausted. Today was a little better not so wiped out but still tired. I hope everyone has a blessed holiday. Nannette
  18. Not sure... I'm not doing Keto, just kind of intuitive eating, trying to eat clean. I was doing pretty well, but have veered a bit. I'm very happy that I did NOT gain back the weight I lost on the pre-op liquid diet, so for me that's a win - I've lost 2 pounds since. Not a lot, and I hope I can keep it off during the holidays and make wise choices. After this week I am going to call and see what my options are and then make a decision from there.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    I am at the three week post op mark. Slowly advancing my diet. No more puréed. Now just soft foods. Thank god for grilled fish which is filling and satisfying. No weight loss in a week which I am fine with because I have reintroduced carbs and I know from the many failed Keto diets that the minute you have carbs again the weight comes back with a vengeance. I am still very full after only a few bites so I can’t eat enough protein so I am still doing a shake a day. I am down to just one of the five incisions that is still healing. The rest have closed up nicely. I am having a weird experience with friends and family. I can only eat a few bites of food and with Christmas approaching I have been going out to dinner and to parties a lot. It is such a waste of money to order a meal given restaurant portion sizes knowing that leftovers don’t qualify as soft food after they are microwaved. So instead I have been asking to split meals. I am surprised by how many people look at me like I am a monster for suggesting this. Does anyone else find that people don’t want to split a meal at a restaurant?

Yes I totally understand it can be very hard, I still struggle with what am i going to eat and half the time dont eat and then i get miserable. i guess its just a case of tasting things as see how you enjoy them. I have found also that one day i might really enjoy something and think yep I will have that again and then not like it the next time I try it. Maybe you could cook together there would be no harm in him eating better food you never know maybe he might loose a few pounds too. I know you said you dont like to cook but have a look on pinterest I searched meals for gastric sleeve and easy lunches for sleevers a lot came up, lots of keto foods came up as well they looked amazing and were food most people enjoy, it might give you some inspiration and I am sure your hubby would enjoy them too. I have found simple meals like a piece of steak and a few veggies or salad its quick and easy or chicken breast and that is stuff you could do for both of you or even your hubby could cook.
  23. I am so happy to hear some of you guys have lost so much weight on the liquid diet, my dietitians said, I can have soup and protein shake, she also said, I can use Atkins or keto meal replacement. I am on keto shakes and soup. Jello and vitamin water. It’s working well. Good luck to everyone.
  24. Pre-op is definitely the hardest part in my opinion! Your diet sounds very tough. The headaches might be from sugar/carb withdrawal. Similar to what happens when someone starts keto. Only a few more days though. You can do this!! 🍀
  25. The healthy choice power bowls look like they might be a good choice. About 200 calories for whole thing but you'd probably only eat half, decent protein, carbs aren't too bad. I'm a big fan of the P3 packs with meat, cheese and nuts. Precooked chicken is an easy go to. Cooked frozen shrimp you could just microwave and toss in a premade sauce with a microwaved veggie. Jerky meats are typically a good option. They make keto cereals now that are decent macros if you just wanted a bowl of cereal with milk.
