    Protein powder taste?

I use GENEPRO in my smoothies and can not taste it. Only one tbsp is 30 grams Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein powder taste?

    I love genepro.
  3. For pre-op I drank the Premier protein shakes. Couldn't stand the taste after surgery, so I switched to mixing Genepro (protein powder) in with many things. Applesauce, soup, broth, juices, smoothies, etc.
  4. I am just over 2 weeks post-op and have really struggled to get all my protein in because I dislike the taste of the protein drinks and powder. So I ordered a powder recommended on one of the boards and it arrived yesterday. I love it! At 11 am, I already have 67g of protein. I had one scoop in my V-8 and a second scoop in my Crystal Light. I can't taste it nor did it change the texture of the drink. It's called Genepro and I ordered it directly from the manufacturer.

    Protein Shakes Preop

Pre-surgery I liked most of the powders, Quest has some good flavors. I mixed them with almond milk and ice and whizzed them in the Ninja. It was like an ice milk shake. Post surgery I am struggling with all of them. I have tried 10 different kinds, pre-made and powders. They are all so sweet and fake tasting and have a terrible aftertaste. And they are upsetting my stomach. I ordered GENEPRO today, they is some controversy around it but I have got to find something I can handle.

    April Sleevers check in!

I have hunger too, I bought some gaviscon but I can't tolerate them at all, they feel like they're foaming in my mouth! My PCP out me on extra omeprozole, but I always forget to take it, even with a reminder on my phone! I've had 2 stalls, not fun, I JUST started losing again last week and finally five pounds down! @AASosa you are brave with your pizza lol! I've gone gluten free, FINALLY given up nicotine and sugar and simple carbs, I do eat clean now too but I'm not exercising like I should, I make a lot of new things from cooking light magazines. @Rachibabe I am SO not having an easy time either. I can't get enough protein without a supplement (GenePro is great) and now I basically make a hot chocolate with fairlife milk because I'm suddenly lactose intolerant and add the genepro and boom! 45 protein. It's expensive but you can use it in hot stuff and it doesn't circle or get weird. I can't seem to drink anywhere close to 48 ounces, tons of smells make me gag. This is seriously the hardest thing I've ever done, and I've grown 2 humans and had to learn to walk and talk again at 19. We're right there with you.

    Flavorless Protein Powder

Genepro by musclegen research. I buy mine on Amazon. 98% absorption rate. 30 grams of protein in 1 tablespoon of powder. Mixed in to anything hot or cold
  8. My problem is flavored protien shakes. I am using GENEPRO unflavored in hot tea ( temp has to be under 140 or the powder curdles into a rubbery chunk) and I have no problems. You can also try protien waters like protien2O or Atkins Lift Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I also can't process artificial sweeteners and things like stevia Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

So sorry [emoji52] it was rough for me the 1st couple of months too. Drink your water and get that protein in. I can't handle any protein but unflavored Genepro. I know a lot of people have different opinions However it saved my life, literally. Take care.

    Help

GENEPRO by musclegen doesn't taste like anything!!!! I bought mine from lucky Vitamin.com with buying two bags it was $60 free shipping. It basically comes to $1 a day if you use 1 serving a day. It's 98 calories, 1 tablespoon serving. I add it to Greek yogurt so I get 42 grams of Protein in one sitting. (Some people think you can only absorb a certain amount of protein at once both my nutritionist and my surgeon told me that was absolutely ridiculous) at 42 grams I only have to eat 18 more grams of protein a day to reach my goal of 60. You can also get two samples of the Genepro off their website for $3.50. It's a fantastic product you can't beat!!!

    Sick of cold and sweet

Genepro sold in the bariatric store, can be added to tea, broth, soup. It mixes in nicely.
  13. I could use some help figuring out how to proceed with the all-important protein! What do you all use? I don’t like anything with flavor, so I’m just comparing unflavored powders. 1) Genepro— been using for months successfully, but their product (or labeling?) changed so it might be time to change. Maybe I’ve overestimated how much protein I got if they mislabeled?? 2) Tried Isopure and BiPro Bold (both yuck) 3) Considering Unjury Unflavored—does anyone use this? Taste, smell, texture? 24g scoop, 21g protein at $1.60 per serving. 4) New Genepro (3rd generation) is lower on protein. Calculated to compare to Unjury, a 22g scoop is 22g protein at $2.66 per serving. 5) Someone posted about Vital Proteins, but it contains a lot more sodium than I’d like. 6) Am I missing any other options? Thanks!
  14. I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. 30 grams of protein for 1 tablespoon. Is it the texture or the taste of your shakes that is making you nauseous? If the texture, I agree that you can try making them thinner with more Water, and shaking or blending them with ice. If flavor is an issue, I love to add some PB2 powdered Peanut Butter to my shakes. Great flavor enhancer and it adds more protein. There are also high protein gelatins and puddings sold on BariatricPal Store that are good, but again, you can achieve something similar by mixing some Genepro (or other unflavored protein powder) into a s-f pudding or other food. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Genepro has been sued, and lost for lying about their protein content, they didn't even bother to show up in court to defend themselves. A very shady and deceptive company. https://casetext.com/case/si03-inc-v-musclegen-research-inc

What is the best unflavored protein?

GENEPRO.... is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I fix a Crystal Light Lemonade (others are too sweet for me) and sip on it all day at my desk!!! You can order samples from their site at http://www.musclegen.net/ . Just click shop and it is listed as "Genepro Sample Pack". You get two 1TB pouches which are 30g of protein each. They are currently $2.00 each pack plus shipping. Had my blood work done in October and I am right on target with my protein.

What is the best unflavored protein?

I like Genepro also, because it's not like a 1/4 cup serving to get the protein in, it's a tablespoon for one serving. Hands down the best unflavored... pricey, but hey, it's worth it.

    Protein pill ?

Getting protein in at week 2 for me was very difficult! I agree with "clc9", you have to start your day early. Protein is a must, I didn't do well getting in my protein the first three weeks. I now add 30g of Genepro unflavored to about 6oz of water three times a day. It does get better. Best wishes!

    Protein Shakes

Sample a variety. Think about if RTD or powdered better fits into your lifestyle and pocketbook. I was using almond milk, but stopped since it was too low of a Protein payoff for the carbs it contains. I already had a nutra bullet because I drink Protein shakes pre-gym. That may not be an expense you want to make if you won't use it after the early post-op stages. Popular brands are Premier Protein, unjury, GENEPRO, Isopure and Syntrax nectar. However there are a zillion other brands out there. Make sure you speak to your nutritionist about what they recommend. Mine wanted me to make sure that the one I chose either had whey or soy isolates since that is the most concentrated form of protein. She said to make sure to not get concentrates. She also gave me guidelines as to nutrition levels per serving. I think it was at least 15 gms Proteins, and no more than 6 gms of sugar. I would have to double check my binder to be sure. I found I needed some unflavored protein as the constant sweet of the drinks was too much for me after a week. Being able to have vegetable broth or non chunky Soup with a scoop of unflavored protein was a welcome break. I also liked the Isopure teas because I needed something non milk based. Save all receipts. Most stores will accept unused portions if you decide you do not like them. Since people are sharing, here's my iced coffee/mock frap/mock coolata recipe. I buy a med Dunkin Donuts coffee with cream. Cool then pour into ice cube trays. 1 scoop of CVS chocolate whey ¼ - ½ cup of FAGE 0% plain greek yogurt depending on taste 4 - 6 ice cubes (a traditional ice cube is ~ 1 ounce) just enough Water to blend. Throw the whole thing in the nutra bullet. Based on 6 cubes and ½ cup of yogurt your totals are: 242 calories 14 carbs 4 fat 39 protein 111 sodium 7 sugar If you want to cut calories and carbs try ¼ cup and 4 cubes. I do this for pre-gym, drink half and drink the rest post workout for recovery. At 39 gms of protein I have now gotten in most of my protein before noon.

Surgery postponed, new date July 12

Hi I buy my GENEPRO online thru Amazon. It is kind of expensive but it only takes 1 tablespoon. Some will argue about the grams of protein, I have used this for quite awhile now and have not had anything abnormal on my blood work. It is the only one that is tasteless that I have found. Good Luck
  21. Went to my 12 mo. post op last week. I've lost 90 lbs. total but have not lost a pound in the last 4 months. The PA said i'm doing great and that stalls are common however you and I know I should have lost some weight in the last three months. Very frustrated and to be honest quite weepy over the whole thing. I swore that I would not be one of those that fail. I'm doing everything different this time (this diet) than I have done before. First thing I did was to forgive myself for gaining it all and allowing myself to be kinder and gentler with myself.....well I think I forgave myself into one too many slices of apple pie. I also increased my activity and have been walking/bending/stretching/hauling (we are clearing land of dead trees....thats some pretty awesome exercise). I have struggled with low Protein numbers since day one. I developed a sensitivity to the Protein shakes early on as i had to do the pre op diet twice because i had to cancel surgery due to a death in the family. It kind of scared me off all Protein drinks and I just can't eat enough to get enough of the protein in. Getting real......I need to put my big girl pants on and drink the damn protein. Its the answer to my problem I know this. I need to increase my Water intake....two simple things that I can do to be successful. The PA at my Dr.s suggested MR Musclegen Research GENEPRO medical grade protein (amazon.com) Its flavorless and I've only had one serving (in coffee) and it went down ok. The thing that sets this apart is a different method of creating it that is supposed to be more gentle on your tummy and it contains 30 gm in one tablespoon. My question.....have you used this product? What are you mixing it in? can you bake with it? Where are you buying it from...this stuffs pricy? Any other helpful tidbits for those of you past the 8 month stall?

    Unflavored Protein question

What do you put your Genepro in? I have some and tried it with watered down juice (I can't handle artificial sweeteners) and it made it change a weird color and get really THICK. And it was a large glass. Yuck. I use it in coffee every morning...I dissolve it in some half and half in the bottom of the cup, with a fork, then add the coffee. If you don't use cream, some lukewarm Water works too. I also put it in refried Beans, yogurt, soup...anything loose or moist works well. And I tried something new the other day that worked fine: I think you probably know about my incessant struggle with meat, so cheese is a huge source of protein for me. I like the La Tortilla Factory high pro/high fiber/low carb tortillas, so I took one of the small ones they made and made a quesadilla like I usually do, but I tossed the shredded cheese in some Protein Powder before I put it in the tortilla. I used the rest of the scoop in the sour cream + salsa mixture I make to dip it in. That little bit of extra effort got me 20+ grams protein in my quesadilla The secret to Genepro, in my experience, is to mix it into something cold or cool then add it to warm liquids. I add it directly to warm thicker foods like refried beans with no problems. I don't use it in cold liquids at all, since all I drink is water. I'd think you could mix it into lemonade, though, in a shaker bottle then let it sit for a few minutes for the foam to settle.

    How many carbs?

I dont do protein shakes. They're gross. I add Genepro unflavored protein powder to my drinks
  24. I'm day 5 post op and haven't really been thinking about Protein. I did go to store tonight and got GENEPRO. Anyone use this? Wondering how much liquid to add it to. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Struggling

I drink most of my Protein early in the day. I put mocha Protein powder in my decaf coffee for a nice frappe like drink and I also drink a Protein shake mid morning....that helps me get in 60g of protein before lunch and any more is a bonus. I usually have greet yogurt later towards the evening and you can get 12g of protein out of chobani. I have also read about others getting protein powders that are more like crystal light.... Maybe you would tolerate something like that better. I bought that GENEPRO people were talking about and it really is tasteless... The scoops are tiny and you can add it to anything.
