Constipation During Liquid Diet
micci_micci33 replied to CurlyV's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG! I experienced the same thing this morning. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. I thought I was going to faint on the toilet. I’m 10 days post-op and I have been taking stool softener every night. Anyone else have any suggestions? I’m drinking the smooth move tea as I type this.. I’ve also increased my water intake and have been consuming 2 premier shakes everyday since surgery. Please help!!!! TMI, but my rectum still hurts so bad :( -
Oh my dudes - it happened to me!! The dreaded dumping. And I was being really good (or so I thought!). Today is the first day of regular food for me, so I went to Costa and ordered a porridge and a skinny-milk flat white! I carefully looked at the porridge stats and they weren't too bad. So I sit down to have the porridge with some added Sweet & Low (no honey or sugar or jam of course) and about half-way in, I felt hot and cold and immediately nauseous. Like oh my goodness. And what do I do - I'm not at home, I'm in a freakin' coffee shop. So I went to the loo and sat on it for a while and it passed thank goodness (as well as TMI some squidgy diarrhoea). I don't understand peeps. I was being so good waaaaaaaaa 😫

Hey There! I was the same day as you and let me tell you a TMI, Saturday night I believe there was a need to go... do you feel the need to go at all? My dr. told me to take Colace. Well I did that no joy (pills are not that big and by now you should be able to take in that size. ) Tried some smooth move nope no joy, I needed to use the suppository that worked and felt so much better after, and ever since everything has been normal. I wish I would have tried the Colace sooner, I believe you can also use miralax in your water. so hopefully that will help.

Hi, females. I am 11 weeks post-op. My sex drive is nonexistent. I have none. It is starting to annoy my bf. Also, when I do the deed, I am in sooooo much pain because I am as dry as a bone. Anyone else experience this? In my 5 years of being sexually active, I have never had pain. Thanks!!

I had the same thing happen to me when I started the puree stage Tues!!! I lost the 1st week, then as soon as I started the soups, weight went up. I'm pretty sure this happened because I was not aware of the sodium content I was consuming, which I was not the 1st week. Today, finally, the scale budged again after trying to correct the sodium for a few days, and tmi I pooped, lol was weighing 1 pound less. It will sort out and your losses will come, but I think the changes in the stages will cause the weight to fluctuate and that can be discouraging, so hang tight you have a loss on the way. Mine happened just in time for my post op appt tomorrow! whew

I'm 1 month post op today. Down 27. I'm always feeling bloated. TMI- need to really poop, not these little rabit turds. Is it safe to take a gentle laxative. It would be nice going to work next week feeling not so cramped!

TMI - preop diet and haven’t pooped in 7 days
golfgirlgettingthin posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry for this... Is it normal that I haven’t pooped in 7 days? I’m on a liquid diet so there isn’t really anything going in but it just feels strange not to have pooped in so long. 😬 -
I had my sleeve done last Friday 10/19. When I got out of the hospital it felt like my pain just keeps getting worse and worse. I found out that they did one of those stitches through my abdominal wall, and I can barely move around because of how much it hurts when pulled. Nobody ever told me I was getting one of those. Whenever my stomach gurgles (kind of like hunger pangs) it lights my entire belly on fire for a few seconds. Meaning I can’t smell food cause I’ll get hungry and the pain will start. Also, TMI, I have this pain from the bottom of my incisions, to the upper pubic area, kind of like my guts, that happens every few hours or so. Most of the time, it usually happens and then I need go to the bathroom (all I have is diarrhea now). It’s a horrible pain, I can’t breath for a few seconds. I’m really regretting having the surgery. I guess I just didn’t realize how much immobilizing pain there’d be? I’ve seen and read about how easy recovery was for others and expected that. I can’t stand how hard this is, I can barely walk. My arm is sore from having to hold my stomach in from where the stitch is at. If I don’t press it in when moving it gives me sharp pains. I’m going to call my doctor tomorrow to see if this is normal. Did anyone else have it this bad?

Still scheduled for the 29th. Started my liquid diet today. TMI ALERT: And, of course, I also am starting my period. Which means I started my day with a migraine and will likely want ALL of the food. Just my luck. Still thinking about whether I really want to go through with this. Talking to my therapist tomorrow and need to make a decision. I'll do the liquid diet until I decide for sure. In the meantime, I'm stocking up on various protein powders, etc. Went to the hospital's support group last night and it was REALLY stressful. Lots of people talking over each other at the same time, lots of chaos. It just isn't well run. I'm required to go, but it was so stressful (not even the stuff people were saying, but just the noise and having 10-15 people all answering anyone's question at once). Made me nauseous just being there.

Do you cook in a cast iron pan? I'd cook everything in one if I were you! https://www.nomeatathlete.com/iron-for-vegetarians/ https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/78/3/633S/4690005 Also, can you tolerate pate? Especially if you use livers from Whole Foods? I have an awesome recipe for green peppercorn pate that makes getting down chicken liver flat dreamy! Also have a great recipe for authentic "chopped livah" that's absolutely divine especially with the Wasa rye crackers!! Let me know if you want those recipes btw. I'm sure you know all about adding enough things with zinc, vit c, and carotenoids also helps iron absorption? ((hugs)) sweetie! Thanks for telling me about the cream of tartar! I think some of the issue (cuz it hasn't been low until now) is that I'm also having some intestinal disturbance along with the whatever is happening in my gut thing...you know? So I'm sure I'm losing some potassium through um, you know...TMI. -
Don't worry about talking about poop here... it's not TMI, it's normal, acceptable conversation around these parts, LOL odd right? Yes, pre and post op diarrhea is normal. What surgery did you have btw? It could be a symptom of diet intolerances and not just the typical symptoms from a mainly liquid only diet.

She does make mention of how skinny I am now... and then there's the "too deep" exclamations with some push back... that's a pretty interesting occurrence... way TMI I know... sorry, just... it's almost like this is all new at this point. -
Sorry things are not going as smoothly as you like so far. I surgery 10/2 and have had some good days and some bad. Yesterday, I had to take the hydrocodone they sent me home with because I decided to walk around the mall and it was way too much for me. Today, I've been taking it easier and havent felt as bad. Each day gets a bit easier which is what is keeping me positive. Also checked the scale and was 4 pound lighter than when I went into surgery which is nice. Tmi, I also have had diarrhea since day 2 post OP. I figure it's better than being constipated. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Just back to vent!! Had surgery Monday 10/1. Surgery was more involved than they thought. I had a large hiatal hernia that needed to be repaired and a lot of scar tissue adhesions that had to be removed. I went home Tuesday and felt pretty good. Wednesday I felt really good and was excited. Well Thursday I woke up feeling like shit. I couldn’t drink and had the diarrhea. Of course I had to get my period also (tmi) which really put me over the edge. After being sick all day Thursday I was sent back to hospital Friday for iv fluids, nausea meds, and stronger pain meds because of the severe stomach cramps. I slept most of yesterday and woke up this morning feeling good again. Now as they say has gone on I feel like shit again. I am totally regretting this as I just want to feel better and eat a friggin meal. Since 830am I’ve only been able to get in 20 oz. then I get the diarrhea again!!!!!! I have 3 kids and I have to go back to work Tuesday. I guess I just wasn’t expecting to feel this bad at this point. Just feeling sad.

Ok, I know that this will be TMI but just remember you asked! 😂 As others have stated at 3 months out you should be cleared for just about anything. Keep in mind if you are drinking/eating only 600 calories a day your body is will be consuming more than than to run every day. Its the waste that ends up coming out of the other end, so if you are drinking most of that 600 calories then not much is going to come out the back end. I will say that I am usually eating about 16-1800 calories per day and I typically "go" once per day if that. I have actually started taking several things in order to keep things moving. I take several of those per day as well as several psyllium pills. Please refer to your surgeon for the psyllium, some say its ok and some say no, my surgeon said it was fine and I currently take 3-4 pills daily and they simply work. The only concern is making sure that you drink enough water as the fiber in the pills tends to absorb water which can be bad if you do not drink enough water when you take them. I am over a year out and even though I eat plenty of salad, fruit and veggies I still have issues. I also drink well over 100oz of water every day so I am getting plenty of hydration.

I didn’t mean to worry anyone yesterday who has not started pre op diet. Today is day 5 for me and I woke up feeling much better. I never thought I would get through one day so this is a huge accomplishment. I do find it very ironic that I typically cannot stay on a diet, hence me having weight loss surgery, but I can go full liquids. Crazy! I just want to follow the rules so I can lessen the chance of any complications. I did gain a pound but still down 7. I haven’t been pooping much (tmi) but probably why I gained. I shouldn’t be weighing myself everyday I know but if I have to survive this I will do it lolllll. Good luck to everyone and I answered my own question. It does get easier?

The first day I was in shock I think, second day by far the worst. I had the worst headache ever and couldn’t stop pooping (tmi). I did expect this as our bodies detox. My headache has gotten a lot better but I’m just so exhausted and starving!!!! I’m trying so so hard but I just want to sleep for the next week!!!

3 Weeks Post Op. NEED HELP!!
kimbers18 replied to OhioSparkle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m a little late to this post, but I had the exact same issues early on and ended up with impacted bowel and endured the worst week of my life about 4 weeks post surgery. Turns out too much fiber can actually do the opposite of what it’s supposed to do. For the last 5ish months I’ve been doing 1/2 cap of Miralax three times a week and I’m making sure to eat foods with natural fiber but not go crazy. I monitor the bathroom situation just as much as my water and diet. If I don’t “go” for two days I increase to a full cap of Miralax. If you do end up having impacted bowel issues and need to know the TMI of how to fix an impaction when every over the counter option doesn’t work, shoot me a message. Also, early on I had zero energy. Once I got the protein/water/food/sleep thing balanced I was able to walk forever. It took about two months for me to feel real energy. -

Just a TMI moment, but um, I think I "found" the source of the xtra pound and I will just add--it is gone now. hehehe Seriously. One. Freaking. Ginormous. Soul-satisfying. Pound. So I'll still claim the scale weight this morning but know in my heart of hearts, that I was only up maybe 0.2-0.4lbs after an UD that even involved wine. That gives me a little hope for a future of being able to eat over 1000cals a day and be "ok." -
Well not to be TMI, but I don't have a cycle. I will try and watch the sodium though. I haven't had issues with constipation yet.

September bypass buddies??
SueSaBelle replied to MissPoodle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you everyone for the prayers. My bypass went very well and Dr. Taylor also fixed the hernia that I didn't know I had. I also have 6 incision sites that are in a circle. The left ones are the ones that give me constant pain if I move to suddenly or twist. Of course my body decided to start my period the day before surgery which was a major pain, especially when I received blood thinner shots in my belly. The staff took it all in stride and were wonderful. I am home and only taking liquid Tylenol for the pain. I was on morphine through the iv and then on liquid Vicodin which helped for the car ride home. I am getting in my water and most of my protein (shakes, oikos Greek yogurt, sugar free jello, broth). One of the things I noticed immediately in the hospital was everything was too sweet, even the sugar free popsicles. I had lots of broth and forced myself to have some of the jello but I mostly had lots of ice chips. I am finally able to sleep on my sides. I also use a wedge pillow in bed to help prop me up. This was wonderful to be able to sleep 4 hours without being interrupted! Walking does help immensely! I took my house shoes which are actually a pair of Crocs and I was able to walk farther because of the extra cushion from the Crocs. This helped a lot since the gas kept settling in my right shoulder and chest. TMI - The only thing I am concerned about is having my first bowel movement. I have been burping and passing gas but just haven't had to go #2. That kind of makes sense since I haven't really eaten anything that wasn't a liquid so how can you poop if you are peeing everything out? I also had a moment of questioning about surgery. I thought how could I be so selfish to have this elective surgery and inconvenience my family. Thankfully I reminded myself that this was for me and eventually my family will reap the benefits. My hubby was wonderful throughout the whole process. He was so worried that he left his slippers on when we drove to the hospital on Wednesday morning. I am truly blessed to have him in my life. Through 6 years of marriage he has stood by me and encouraged me. He combats that inner destructive voice in my head and makes me laugh. Feel free to ask me any questions about my experience with bypass. -
Sorry if this is TMI...but I am 4 weeks out and been tolerating everything great—no issues. today, I had to strain very hard to have a bowel movement. Now, not only do I feel like I still need to go, but I have developed a burning pain that if I move just right is when I feel it—it’s not continual. But it feels like maybe I strained a muscle in my belly. It’s between the belly button and the scar where they removed the stomach out of. Has anyone experienced this? Should I be worried? Obviously I need to drink more water......but I’m worried about the pain.

Oh it's not a problem unless I'm traveling in NYC, Paris, etc. You know major $hi++y cities that make you basically pay to use the restrooms if there even is one lol So I eat and stay close to place with restrooms no big deal (it's not explosive) but I was traveling for a few hrs without a chance to stop so I knew it would be a problem if I ate during that time which coincided with non fast hrs. So I screwed myself. Live and learn. Otherwise it's just quicker digestive flow and I absolutely love it. I know exactly when things go in and out. (TMI?) It has improved after VSG and even more after IF. I enjoy it most of the time, I wasn't this regular before.
