Red Bird I am so sorry to hear about your aftercare. I would continue to try to contact the slimBand group and insist on someone responding to you. Not sure what the Dr. Yau issue is, but that shouldn't allow them to treat a paying patient the lack of care that is needed after surgery. You hang in there and vent whenever you like. I am apparently very lucky with my surgeons office they are great people. I have only had my band since 1/16/14 and have one fill of 2 cc's...but am looking forward to my next visit-since I am sure 2 cc's is not enough for me. So I will be on the lookout for a follow-up post saying they finally got you in and are helping you. Take care and prayers!!!

I'm sorry I had to give the bad news. :grouphug: I recently got my surgery @ TLBC a.k.a Slimband. in Toronto. They aren't equipped to do fills in Edmonton yet. They told me that they were, but I found out from a fellow bandster from Edmonton that she had to fly to Toronto for her first 2 fills (i'm flying to TO on the 15th for my first fill). TLBC hasn't been that Alberta friendly for me. I was told that they just trained someone to do fills in Edmonton, but they are not ready yet and it is important to see the fill nurse in TO for a seminar. ( I was told that the morning of my surgery). Dr. Yau was great but the aftercare sucks, hopefully that will change. If I had to do it again i'd go to the Winnepeg clinic or the SWLC in Ontario. (cheaper flights to Winnepeg)

Doddie, Thanks for the good wishes.... I love the gym while I am there, other than Jamal is going to kick my ass and push me hard again of that I am sure! I used to weigh daily and haven't in about 5 years since I was at goal for about 6 months and just after plastic surgery I stopped. It worked very well for me for a long time... but in this case I had my own reasons for not caring if I gained and weighing daily wouldn't have stopped me it would have just made some other things worse.... I think there are merits to judging your progress by the scale and by how you look and feel. I have to say sitting and talking to Dr Yau when he moved my port back in Oct helped a lot. Knowing he is there whenever I need him or call Slimband helps too... at the time Dr Yau and I were talking I just wasn't mentally ready to make any of the changes I knew were coming.... and I knew they were coming and exactly what they were because I had been here before.... that was prebanding so I knew how much work I had to go. I just didn't factor in the migraine headaches that were my body begging me for sugar. Heather

I was banded in June with the slimband/lapband everything has been going great other than left shoulder pain when I over eat and have pressure built up. But... Since October I have been having nutcracker esophagus. It basically feels like I'm having a heart attack my husband took me to emerge one night they did an EKG to rule out heart, and said food is probably getting stuck causing acids that irritate my esophagus which is likely causing the spasms. I went and had .25 cc's removed today hoping that will help although I feel really bloated now. Has anyone else experienced this after having their band. I've never had esophagus problems before????

I found this doing a search. Yikes. Sorry to anyone who got scammed or injured by these thieves. So I won the lawsuit against SLIMBAND IN TORONTO how do i collect So to make a very long story short, I paid 16,000 dollars to the SLIMMBAND CLINIC IN TORONTO, TO INSERT BY LAPOROROCOPY AND GENERAL ANESTHETIC A DEVICE WHICH WAS TO CONTROL MY APPETITE AND HELP ME TO LOSE AND MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT, FOR MY HEALTH. I was blind sighted, I should have done my homework, this very clinic and doctor had jumped ship on hundreds of other innocent unsuspecting, patients. I went through the courts and won the case against the clinic, big deal they shut their doors one week prior to my court date. My only hope is to tell anyone who even thinks about this way of life in the Toronto area be certain it is not the same owner, nor the same doctor that took my money and left me with a nonfunctioning piece of silicone band in my abdomen. Three surgeries later and many heart aches and physical discomfort I had the monster removed.DO NOT BE FOOLED THEY HIRE SKINNY PEOPLE WHO TELL YOU THEY HAD THE SAME SURGERY. I HAVE ASLO BEEN IN CONTACT WITH PATIENTS THAT ENDED UP WITH SEVERE INFECTIONS AND MANY COMPLICATIONS. https://www.bariatricpal.com/index.php?/topic/398746-So-I-won-the-lawsuit-against-SLIMBAND-IN-TORONTO-how-do-i-collect/page__view__findpost__p__4482030 -
Hello I would like to join the April band buddies.. My surgery is April 24th and I am getting the Slimband in Toronto.. I am nervous and excited.. I have to do a 10 day low cal diet.. No carbs, no fat, no fruit.. I guess its not too bad but will be hard to find stuff I can eat...I would love to chat with you all and compare our progresses and different things we do as the time goes along.. Please keep this thread going as I need something to keep me going.. My best friend was going to get it done too but she had hiatis hernia operation a few years back and they were wanting to do her banding in the hospital and costing her an extra 2900 so she opted out.. Now I need a partner or even better a few partners to chat with.. It was nice meeting you all and hope we can chat..

So I'm gathering that it's about a 2-year wait. I can tell you that I am not going to wait that long. Provided we sell our house this spring, I'll be using the profit to have it done in Toronto. I had a phone consulation with Niki from Slimband. It's $16000, or $3000 down and payments of $350 a month for 4 years. The doctor there has done more lap band procedures than all docs combined in Canada. The saline fills can be done by your family doctor, if they are willing, or by other local doctors. My family doctor mentioned someone in F'ton and Slimband said they had someone in Sackville who does the fill. So, you only have to go to Toronto for the procedure. They also have a big support team that you have access to for life. -
June 2013 Bandsters - How are you doing?
LessLee replied to LessLee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ah, ok. So you and I are probably feeling the same. Slimband does this procedure they call "the Slim Spot technique". How exactly it's done I am not sure. They do it during surgery. I was told they hook you up to some type of monitor and fill the band to determine where your vagus nerve is stimulated, and that would be your estimated "Sweet Spot". They then take out enough to allow you to heal. It's not exact, it can be off by 1 cc or so, but it gives you a bit of a head start with fills. http://slimband.com/...pot-adjustments I had 5.5 cc at surgery, and my level was estimated to be 7cc. I am now at 7.25. But weight loss will also affect it as you lose visceral fat. My band is 10 CC, but they can actually hold more like 12 if needed. -
Slimband is the name of a clinic/franchise that performs the lapband procedure here in Canada. Kind of like True Results in Texas.

hi you can contact Lap Band Surgery Clinic | Weight Loss & Gastric Balloon - Surgical Weight Loss Centre, Toronto Canada or Weight Loss Surgery - Slimband I'm sure both clinics can give you a price for a fill. I was banded in Toronto and only had 4 fills in total... last fill was 3 yrs ago... I do know Slimband did fills for Mexico band people back then...not sure what they charge... i would contact both clinics. Hope this helps. Tom

I lost 150 in about 18 months and have maintained that loss over 5 years now... that is a big thing you need to talk to people about on top of how much they have lost... maintenance Almost all the bypassers I know have regained weight and some significant weight at about the 5-7 year mark... their body has adjusted to the malabsorpation and the reduced calorie intake and they tend to gain. Ask about maintenance and regain it is a biggie for me... I can always get my band adjusted there is no adjust a bypass Good luck with your decision. I can say I love my clinic and my surgeon and he has been great with me. If you want more info on the clinics I can tell you about Slimband. Heather

KimMac, just wanted to mention that the dye in your Slimband port is normal. They put it in the fill fluid so that someone doing a fill or defill knows they have accessed the port properly. -

if you guys do end up finding someone to sue slimband, please let me know. I also got a band in 2011 and i havent lost any weight. it has also made my life miserable and ihavent had a refill as once they filled it soo much that i had to go to emergency. i just recently found out they closed shop. i talked to my doctor about having the band removed but was told unless it caused me some life threatening situation they cannot remove it. so i am stuck to wait until i am close to dying from the band before having it removed these 2 years rules and ohip rules does not take into consideration human rights/humanity -

Apparently Slimband and Lap-Band are two different things. The Slimband is hollow and filled with fluid and you have a port sewn into the side of your abdomen so that you can fill or de-fill as needed to restrict or release the size of your stomach. I believe it has its own patent. -

I will try my best to be on top finding a lawyer for lawsuit action. I will speak my brother who also lawyer in GTA to find out more research for me. However I will get back to you guys as soon i recover faster with my recovery. Raine88 - First, I asked my family doctor to referral me to Dr Hong and then less a week he immediately call me for appointment (due covid 19 situation) later, he schedule me for endoscopy appointment following week and he took my case immediately 5 days later my surgery (last Monday). It's was really fast and quick case he took over. I am glad i wasn't on waitlist for surgery. If i was you, go to him because Hamilton hospital is a lot faster to take patients since it has less population then Toronto. I come from Mississauga to Hamilton and it was all worth to get out asap. I had Slimband for 9 years so i couldn't hold for another year or so. Melissa- How did you cope with your recovery after surgery? I am much in pain after surgery i couldn't lay down and sit properly because it feel heavy on left side. Any tips? But i feel so good eating oatmeal without puking after long time... just healing process hurt. -

No they are the same product just two different clinic names. Dr Lau originally opened it as Toronto Lapband Clinic. Then when he was sued. Him and his partners declared bankruptcy and opened up the same clinic in the same location doing the same procedure which is the Lapband and doing fills and they called it Slimband. Same procedure, same company just two different names. There is only one type of weight loss surgery that they do which is the Lapband. -

Hello everyone, I got my Slimband back in October 2011... I have had complications the whole time... I paid over $27,000 for this procedure hoping it would be the beginning of a new life... well long story short it did NOTHING! I would like to be part of this if it becomes a lawsuit, I still have all my papers.. I am going for a removal of the band July 9, 2020... If your all getting together for lunch sometime, I would love to join and meet everyone -
My surgery was yesterday and I honestly had a really good experience the surgeon and staff at the slimband clinic were great. I was done at about 2pm and was back at my hotel room @ 5pm. I have no gas pain at all (touch wood). The pain from the surgery itself is very minimal and I only get them when I try to sit or stand. I slept really well only woke up once to take painkillers. So far so good, I pray that the rest of my journey is as easy as this. I have only had water and a glass of apple juice since the surgery and I am noy hungry. In the airport right now on my way home to start a brand new life. Wishing all of you yet to be banded all the best.

Hi: This clinic is realtively new, but we have a few that have had surgery with them. They have a good followup aftercare. Their dietician attends our meetings. Please feel free to come to our meetings and get a variety of opinions on all clinics, Mexico, Slimband, Woodhead, Leung, NWLSC, and soon a new clinic will be opening up put on by Dr. Colbourne. We welcome everyone, pre or post surgery. Doreen
