Frustrated because of stalled weight loss

I hear there are expected stalls: 3 week stall 3-4 month stall 6 month stall 9 month stall Maybe you are just in one of those stalls? I'd probably be tempted to go back to posting religiously and weighing and measuring to make sure I'm not eating more than I think. I also would try reducing cals by 10% and upping my protein portion of my day just to see if that helps. If it doesn't, then I'd maybe try the opposite! I'd try adding 100 more calories of protein to the day. Sorry you're stalled. They SUCK so badly! ((hugs)) Congrats on your success!!!

Frustrated because of stalled weight loss

You are having the infamous 3 week stall. There is nothing you can do to change it. LOL. You just have to persevere and muscle through it. It's so hard. I whined the whole way through mine! Mine lasted 6 days. I went up and down the same 1-2lbs and it was crushing. Then I started losing again. The End. ((hugs))

    Not loosing weight 🙁

I stalled after the first week of surgery. I had lost 27lbs in the pre op diet, then another 11lbs in my first week. So I hit the dreaded "3 week stall" early. It will pass. Just keep following your plan.

    Any April surgery buddies

I feel like I know all of the information, I started the process 10 months ago but due to my insurance being so strict I had to attend many classes, seminars, appointments, clearances, over the phone courses, etc. So I feel like the knowledge is there, however from joining this site I am learning new things every day, especially when looking at the post op forums. I know unexpected things will pop up and am prepared for the stalls including the famous 3 week stall and some initial weight gain from water immediately after surgery. Vitamins are something I definitely need to work on. My vitamin D was previously low but I am working on that. Iron is also another issue that I need to be prepared for as I am borderline anemic. I've heard of many post ops being hospitalized and having health issues from not keeping up with their Iron. Working in healthcare I have access to the providers and their knowledge on the subject. One thing with multivitamins is if you overdose on Iron that can be an issue too that can cause issues with your can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and in extreme cases liver failure. Therefore, I am going to be in constant contact with my provider and request routine blood work on all of my levels. Since we have surgery in April, most of us will be meeting our deductibles and out of pocket max so aside from any copay's we can get as much work done that our insurance deems as medically necessary. This includes blood work and labs on nutrition and vitamin levels. For instance, my deductible is $750 and out of pocket max is $3000. Since my surgery is around $30,000 I met my out of pocket max of $3000 and can get as much work done as I need to for the remainder of the year. Again, copay's still need to be paid for each visit. If I get blood work done by my primary care provider my copay is only $10 compared to the $50 to go to a specialist who will do the same thing. So in general I feel like I am pretty prepared when it comes to the aftercare and communication with my provider's and insurance policies to make sure I can keep in touch with my body to know where I am deficient and what vitamins I will need to increase during the weight loss. I still have a lot to learn about the vitamins. I just cannot get past the taste of chewable vitamins. I tried the Flinstone Chewables my surgeon's office recommended and they are absolutely disgusting with an aftertaste that returns all day. Therefore, I think crushing my pills and putting them in yogurt might be my best option. One tablespoon I do not think will be too hard to get down. I have to take anxiety medication anyways so this won't be too hard I think. In regards to protein, I am currently doing Premier Protein and I am in LOVE!! They recently came out with new flavors such as Oreo & Cream, Peaches & Cream, Caramel, Banana & Cream, along with their traditional of Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberries & Cream. The reason I chose this was it has 30 grams of protein in 11oz so even if I cannot consume much in a day, 2 shakes meets my minimum protein for the day and can also double as liquids so will at least give me 22 oz of that. It has 1 gram of sugar per shake, 160 calories, 24 vitamins and nutrients, 5 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of fat, so it works perfect for the traditional Keto Diet. Along with this I will buy myself a rotisserie chicken and slowly pick through that throughout the week. Seems like a pretty cheap diet and I can treat myself to steak every once in a while. My nutritionist wants me to get my protein intake for the day before I move to vegetables, and then carbs which I will rarely be able to ever meet during the weight loss period. After surgery I am prepared for the possibility of not being able to consume Premier Protein anymore. A lot of people say dairy becomes hard to consume after surgery, in which case I think the clear, non dairy Isopure would be a great substitute. Popsicles made from protein drinks also sounds like a fabulous idea. I'd love any other suggestions anyone else may have, and am SUPER excited to get to meet some fellow April Sleever's. I'd love to keep in touch so we can all help each other on our journey!!

    Stalling one week in?

These are called 3-week stalls. They happen randomly. Some patients see them within the first month. Others see them around the 3rd month, 6th month or 9th month. They will happen multiple times during the course of your weight loss. Once the stall breaks, you will see a drop in weight.

    Help

Maybe you've been such a good girl you've hit the dreaded 3-week stall 9 days early. Keep on what you're doing right, once your body "catches its breath" you will resume losing again. Have your measurements gotten smaller,? even those NSV (non scale victories) are something to feel proud of. You are an example to all the "newbies" who yearn to be like you and someday they will be. February bypass buddies?

Hi everyone! Just an update on me. Went to see my surgeon yesterday. I've only loss 15lbs in 4wks But he said that would be a normal amount for me. I'm 4 1/2 wks post-op and haven't loss ANYTHING this week. During my third week I lost about a pound a day and I was hoping that I was just skipping the 3-week stall. Haha! Anyway, my surgeon just stressed how important it is to get my 64 oz of water everyday and the 60g of protein every day. He said I can progress my diet very carefully. Honestly, just getting the 64oz of water in every day makes me feel full all the time. But, I am striving to get at least 60g of protein. Overall, I'm doing good, I just wish those silly scales would start moving down again! Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I love my RD. I do refer to her as an RD out of respect for her licensure. But, I don't take umbrage at others saying Nut or nut. Meh, to each their own. There's a bazillion diets out there and I reckon, many paths to the same goal. Maybe fewer paths to maintain that goal... - but who am I to say? I'm just a schmoe on the internet who gets most of my wisdom from Charles Schultz and Dr. Seuss. The 3 week stall is real people! Just sayin...it's a wicked beast with 3 heads and a forked tail and it whispers lies and deceptions in your ear! And mine is gone (I think)! Woot! Take that you little bi*ch and suck on it! Down 1.4lbs since my stall... . The crops are saved and so is everyone around me.
  12. Good question! I don't know that my clothes are greatly different, they were pretty big and loose before. I only measure waist. And it's gone down 1/2 inch but that's probably from reduction in surgery inflammation. You know? So no real way to tell other than i'm at the 3 week mark. And everyone says there's a 3 week stall.

    February bypass buddies?

Ok, here's mine for this Wednesday, March 21, 2018: 4 weeks + 1 day post op SW 222.4lbs (2.20.18 RNY) CW 210.4lbs (sigh--Damn you 3 week stall--why do you have to tease me so?) Averaging about 450-500cals/day--eating mostly food for Protein. Having about 1/2 to 2/3 of a Protein Drink as needed to make 60g of protein. And the good news is that so far, I have not killed anyone yet due to my severe irritation with the scale and this forking stall!
  14. FluffyChix

What's Your Goal For The Week?

This week, since I accomplished all of last week's goals, I'm going to concentrate on not killing anyone as the 3 week stall continues. I'm trying to find my mellow happy place. I seem to have misplaced that damned thing...
  15. Update: 4weeks Post Op - 210.6lbs (-11.8lbs from SW of 222.4lbs) Okey dokey...so 4 long weeks; 1 month post-op. What a trip. I'm coming to you from somewhat of a Negative Nancy (Disgruntled Daphne) perspective due to the dreaded 3 week stall/pox upon the land that is still with me. Sigh. I've now lost about 2.75lbs/week since surgery. No offense, but being average bites great big green ones. For those of you who are not post-op and who have not experienced a stall post-surgery, I can NOT describe the mental trauma the stall inflicts. Seriously, having a stall during regular weight loss makes you feel like gnawing off a limb just to see a drop on the scale. LOL. But having a stall after you've cut out 90% of your stomach and about 2m of intestines is EXCRUCIATING!!!! It's a mind fu*k the likes of which you've never known. It DOES feel like, this is the end of it. I will be the ONLY person on the face of the earth for whom the surgery did not work. LOL. On top of worry about that, you know, the whole calorie restriction thing that comes as part of the volume limitations in a tag-team one-two punch that adds insult to injury. Cuz I don't know about you, but I'm thinking, "FU! I've done all of this and am eating 450-500cals/day and I've lost 2.75lbs per week and nothing in over 7 days?" LOL, this is how fu*ked up my head is right now...last night, I had Bigtime Billy Badass rebellion and so I ate 1 1/8 ounces corned beef + 1 1/8 ounces corned pork + 1 1/2 oz "fried" cabbage and I felt GUILTY cuz my calories went over 550cals for the day! Let me repeat, I felt guilty for eating too much at dinner and for having the daily nuts of: 581cals; 69g protein; 29g fat; 19g carbs; 5g fiber; 14g net carbs; 3g nat occurring sugar for the day. How insane is that? ROFLMFAO!!! AND I walked for 1 hour yesterday on bursitis hips that hurt like a MOFO! *snort* *indeed* I'm whipping myself into high dudgeon and indignation. LOL. Can you tell today you should all call me Ms. Cranky McCrankypants? I don't wish for complications. But I honestly do NOT understand how every doc on The YouTube says I should be getting full on 3-4 bites (about 2Tbsp of food) at 3-4 weeks post-op and I'm like, dudes. Have you EVER had surgery? You're nuts! I can eat 1/2c - 3/4c of food COMFORTABLY! Hells I could prolly eat 3oz of dense protein right this instant. I could prolly eat 2 eggs. TWO eggs! LOL. I could tear it up!!! *le sigh* It is my fervent hope that my visit with the surgeon this week and with the RD right behind her appointment will give me the answers and tools I need to relieve me of the ginormous asshat I am currently laboring to wear. It weighs a ton, is uncomfortable, offers poor visibility and the flies are a liability. The End. kserrynotserry this couldn't have been a rainbows and unicorns thread. But this 3 week stall sucks huge green donkey dicks and if I could shoot it in the face with something I would! There. I said it. Bite me.

    February bypass buddies?

((hugs)) You could be me...I'm 4 weeks tomorrow and for the past week I've actually gained a little over a pound. I'd only lost 12lbs since surgery. Now I'm at 10.8lbs loss. The scale is up and down in the cursed 3 week stall that can hit any time from 2-4 weeks. I am averaging 400-500 cals/day, about 60g of protein, less than 20g of fat and less than 20g of whole carbs per day and less than 10g of sugar per day. I actually can NOT figure out how our bodies can hang onto the weight with that kind of deficit. I walk every day for a minimum of 30 minutes (3/4 mile). I seiously got up this morning and just wanted to sob like a baby.

    No Weight Loss--like at all

Sometimes the 3 week stall happens earlier. Especially if dieting before the surgery. The stall generally lasts 2-3 weeks. Hang in there the scale should start moving any day now. We all go through it. Yours is just occurring a bit earlier in the game.

    February bypass buddies?

Yay!!! Thanks @angyplus5 SW 222.4lbs (2.20.18 RNY) CW 211.8lbs (sigh--damn you 3 week stall) Averaging about 450-600cals/day--eating mostly food for protein. Having about 1/2 to 2/3 of a protein drink as needed to make 60g of protein.
  19. ME TOO!!!!!!!!! AMEN SISTER! ME TOO!!!!!! Here is my experience with volume (we had different procedures but close to same surgery date); some days I can eat close to 1/2 cup, other days I can barely eat a 6 oz light yogurt. It's weird and a little scary to me as well, but it is what it is, and I'm soooo thankful that I have felt great and have not had any of the uncomfortable side effects that others have suffered. Also, the very few extra calories give me the added energy to move well! I'm noticing my clothes are fitting properly vs being tight, so I figure I'm doing something right. Staying away from the scale bc of the 3 week stall. On a happy note, I had to go to a dinner and literally the only item on the menu that was even a little bit appropriate was chili... I ate about 1/2 of the cup and I was very full but I did not feel cheated or left out. Pre surgery would have been a much different meal for me with feelings of shame and guilt afterward. So... even though it's only been 3 weeks I'm beyond happy with my choice to have this procedure, and I'm keeping a log of these happy victories for when I feel frustrated and upset.
  20. I hear ya... Im in my 3 week stall and the scale hasnt budged. I hear it can go until 5-6 weeks because its our bodys adjusting. Its very annoying but I try to just not think about it too much.
  21. Day 21 - Week 3 Post Op - 212lbs (-10.4lbs from SW of 222.4lbs) Good morning. So today is one of the milestones: Week 3 Post Op. Just wanted to make a couple of key observations and I will probably post my food log for a tiny bit. It appears that the 3 week "stall" is alive and well perhaps? For the last 2 days, there really has been little scale love. It's been bouncing around between the same half pound--up and down. Yesterday I was up to 212.2lbs and today I'm back down to 212lbs. LOL. I realize that can be simple scale fluctuation. No scale is that accurate--even Tanita. I do have a slight feeling that all the sugar alcohols from my vitamins along with the 60cals/day that they provide is crazy making. And they may also contribute to the scale stuff. But I'm just gonna document and wait it out. It's not as if I have much option. LOL. I see the surgeon next week, and then see the RD right behind that appt. So I will def ask. The other thing that bothers me is the lack of consensus about volume. I continue to fear that eating too much volume, too early will stretch out my anastamoses. Fact or crap? No idea. But from 5 different references, each gives a different volume amount for 3 weeks. My RD (verbally at 3 weeks): 1/4c working up to 1/2c food + binder with diet--1-2oz protein, 1/4c soft veg or soft fruit, 1/4c starch; 3 meals per day; 2-3 snacks optional--1/4c-1/2c food depending on slider nature--1oz prot + soft fruit **This equals: 1/4-1/2c protein + 1/4c veg + 1/4c starch or fruit = 3/4-1c of food! . My Hospital RD (written diet) still alternates protein supplements with 6oz yogurt with a meal. Meal consists of 1oz protein + 1/4c soft veg on an alternating schedule. **This equals: 1/4 protein + 1/4c veg = 1/2c of food! . My Surgeon (verbally at beginning at 2 weeks) may advance to soft, fork tender foods stage, eating to tolerance 1-2oz protein + a couple bites of veg + a bite or 2 of soft fruits or starch. **So that's about 1/2c of food at 3 meals. (Plus I can have a snack.) . Obesity Coverage Website (thanks @Apple203)-Soft mechanical diet that actually per them begins week 4-5: (click to enlarge it) **This fluctuates between 1/4-1c of food per meal. . Big Ward: The doctor made a comment on I think Episode 7 that said up until about 3 months, you will be eating 1/4c of food at a time. . Dilemma: I don't really feel any restriction at 1/4cup. I can gulp (about 2-4 gulps before feeling a little discomfort and stimulation to slow down liquids). I can easily eat 1 large egg in less than 5 minutes! I do feel about 3 hours of satiety from 1/2-1c of food. But I'm only 3 weeks out!!!! I can eat this meal easily in 20 minutes: 2oz pan sauteed chicken tender=1/2 cup of food! 1oz brown gravy=1/8cup of food 1/4c smashed roasted cauliflower=1/4cup of food 1/2oz green beans=1/8cup of food This totals nearly 1 cup of food by volume!!!! . I can eat this meal easily in 15 minutes: 3oz Greek yogurt 3oz 2% cottage cheese 4g peanut butter slim powder 1/8c applesauce or 30g lite canned peaches . I just don't know if I need to MAKE myself limit to 1oz=1/4c of protein as per the example in Obesity Coverage image. Or do I go ahead and advance THIS SOON to 2oz per meal? I limited food to 1oz protein per meal yesterday and felt hungry all day. My meals only lasted me about an hour or two. Is it too early for me to feel satiety? Or do I have one of those cases where the surgery didn't help my hunger level? Do I have one of those stomachs that can handle eating more? I'm so scared of this! Yes, I'm having the crazies this morning. LOL. I just flat out don't know what to do. And it looks like the 3 weeks stall is here.

Travelling can cause water retention. Also, you may be in the 3 week stall that hits any time between week 2 and 4. ((hugs))
  23. In order for you to get out of the stall phase you have to drink water, water and more water, it will help you push through it and start to drop the weight. I went through the 3 week stall and it was super annoying. I found a youtube video on it, it was a life saver. It was also good yo know that stall is natural. 25. Praise the Lord, I'm 6 months post op, and very thankful my diabetes was reversed as well as severe reflux I had prior to surgery! My weight loss has been slow with many 3 week stalls, and my surgeon recommends I have to increase the protein intake, as I slacked off of protein shakes the last few months. (Just got tired of them). I'm back to having a protein shake of 30 gm. plus what I get in foods to hopefully increase wt. loss & slow down hair loss. Overall, done well down 50 lbs. & Hgb A1C is 5.4 (also off cholesterol med. since surgery, but lab levels creeping back up, keeping a watch on it)
