I am 7 weeks out sleeve and depend on Genepro to get my protein requirement. It is available on Amazon and at GNC. I have not tried it in water, but think I will do so today. One tablespoon (a scoop) is 30 gms protein. It mixes very well in coffee with just a spoon or fork. Colder beverages require more vigorous mixing; I find that the Jaxx brand blender cups work better than other brands for me. It is not completely tasteless, but is probably the best--I don't feel like there are any protein powders that are truly completely tasteless and textureless (is that a word? lol), but maybe I'm a little hypersensitive :). Hope this is useful info and best wishes!

3 Days out!
becomingmandikaye replied to sunshine 75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Protein RTD shakes - they have 5.5g of protein per ounce. Isopure RTD has 4g of protein per ounce. I have also started mixing GENEPRO into broth and strained Soup - I end up with 30g of protein in 8 oz of soup, which I can drink in less than an hour. -
When your Nutritionist and Surgeon tell you different things
BLERDgirl replied to Ashley1213's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first thing you should have said was "the nutritionist said....." It's a bit disconcerting that the team is not on the same page. Call them out on it. Also check out other brands of protein. Syntrax and GENEPRO are popular and can be mixed with Water. I also used Prosource Nocarb while in the hospital and for the first month post-op. It's a bit viscous, but mixes well with water and herbal teas. That sounds like full liquids unless you are doing protein drink/waters. By definition clear liquids are just that, liquids you can see through. Full liquids is anything in liquid form with a leaning towards a thinner consistency. -
GENEPRO is shit. It's marketing hype. Basically BCAA. The only people I know who use it are women on this forum who don't like the flavor of whey. You can't get 30 grams of Protein from 15 grams of powder. They'll say it is some chemical magic that allows it to absorb as though it is 30 grams or some such BS though. Then they'll say their blood work came perfect and yadda yadda yadda... Go talk to as many lifters as possible and see if any of them use that crap. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

I love Genepro! It has 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It is tasteless and odorless and supposedly mixes instantly in hot and cold beverages. However, I have found that not to be true. I haven't been able to mix it with cold. I use it in hot beverages. It's so easy to get my 60 to 90 grams per day this way.

I just ordered some Syntrax nectar in Cookies and cream, and unflavored GENEPRO off amazon. I saw some really awesome reviews on these. Of course I got them to stockpile, as I can't even enroll in the bariatric plan till 1/2/15, but you better believe, I'll be calling at 8am bright and early to get this party started!!

? About Genepro unflavored
carolk36 replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've not tried it in Water but I've mixed it with just about everything else (including hot decaf coffee) and it's virtually undetectable. I had surgery in September and since October I have used no other Protein supplement but GENEPRO. My surgeon approved it and my NUT researched it because I was concerned about comments I had read here, and she said the peptide was completely appropriate. It's the only whey product I can ingest without gagging from either the smell, taste, or both. I got the numbers back from my blood tests on the 20th and every number was within normal range, including protein. My surgeon was very happy with my numbers. Let us know how it worked in water and Benefiber. Best of luck, Carol -
Anyone willing to share their food diary?
PorkChopExpress replied to bostonmama's topic in Food and Nutrition
Bear in mind that my fridge is emptying out because I'm moving this weekend...normally I'd have more store-bought stuff on my menu for the day. This is me halfway into week 7 post-op. Today it's been like so: Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg with onion and a little cheese, some fruit puree from Trader Joe's (a few spoonfulls) Protein drink (1 scoop of GENEPRO with a 16oz cup of Crystal Light mix/water Lunch: 1.5oz of chopped up chicken satay from a restaurant I like (tossed in the peanut sauce) and a couple TBSP of potato salad with egg Dinner: A small side order of String Bean Chicken from Panda Express grabbed on my way to work (I didn't quite finish it) Will probably add a little protein powder to my drink later to make sure I get enough for the day, as well. -
My RNY was Feb 16. The first thing I noticed was how my sense of smell was greatly heightened. I hate it. I can smell ANYONE'S breath within a few yards of me, and it is horrible. It truly and literally churns my stomach and gives me the heaves. My taste buds have changed as well, and Water tastes yucky. I have tried Propel plain with electrolytes, Polar, and am about to try Fiji. I do like Propel Grape for a flavor, but sometimes I want just plain old water. Crystal Light seems too heavy on taste now. I am also having troubles with Protein. I get nauseous still while drinking. I still only have 1 ounce every 15 minutes. My surgeon suggested GENEPRO, which has 30 grams of protein in 1 tbsp. However, every time I've tried mixing it into a drink, I wound up vomiting later.. I'm supposed to be eating applesauce, and blended Soups, but I'm actually scared to try them, since every time I try adding a new item, I get very sick. I know I can't take new things as quickly as my surgeon's handbook says, as far as the food stages. I obviously have to go slower. This is just so nerve-wracking! Like Bufflehead said, as soon as I saw the other products they put out and the "miracle" performance they claim, I ruled them out as a reputable source. Nowhere could I ever find if genepro has a complete amino acid profile. And the complete lack of third party, scientific, fact-based evidence, and no FDA approval are other obvious red flags that this is a scam. -
I am a couple weeks further along than you. I eat pretty much what I want (as low fat as possible) Two weeks ago I was in a terrible stall. It was my third one but this lasted over a week. I eat what I want. I had to add a protein powder back into my diet. I got sick on a grilled piece of chicken and just can't seem to eat solid meats tonight I had about 1/2 of a tamale with 2 tlb spoon beanless chilli and 1 tlb spoon fat free sour cream. Lunch was 1 baked salmon patty with ketchup, breakfast a 80 calorie light and fit yogurt with 1 tlb spoon genepro protein powder.

I have been having the same problem. I solved it with Genepro and some 25/75 split of light Pineapple juice and water. Try This 3/4 cup of Libby's Pineapple juice 1/4 cup of water (warmed in the microwave for about 20seconds) Mixed in 1 scoop of Genepro (the genepro mixes better in a warm liquid) Combined and poured that in to my popsicle molds. Very good and helps me get my protein in Hope this helps Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi All, So in due diligence, I've been researching protein shakes and drinks. I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm trying to start training myself to drink consistently throughout the day and to start steering away from not eating most days until 2 PM or later. While at Target this weekend, I noticed that they had the Protein 2o in mixed berry and picked some up. They're not half bad actually. They do seem to make my mouth dry when I first take a sip, but I think that's just a matter of getting used to it and I actually enjoy the overall flavor. Back when I had my lapband sx in 2007 pretty much all I had available to me were the milky, overly sweet type of protein shakes and I loathed them after being on liquids for so many weeks pre/post-surgery. So, I am quite encouraged by the juice type drinks. Which leads me to my question. Given that the protein shake market has gotten so much more expansive in the past 12 years, I'm confused by what seems to be 2 different labeled shakes. Some say Protein "meal replacement" like the Bariatricpal protein One and others like Genepro and Syntrax just say protein powder. I've tried reading the labels and I don't see much difference in the two types. Although I will say that I thought it was rather shady of Syntrax to advertise that their protein individual pack will provide 23 grams of protein, only to read the label and see that a serving size is 1/4 of a packet, so you have to multiply everything by 4 to get to 1. the amount of protein they advertise and 2. the actual calories in each pack. So that's my questions Bariatricpal world: is there a difference in meal replacement shakes and the ones just labeled protein powder Which do you use? Also, since you're here, if you've had bypass and you're greater than say 5 months out, how many of you are still drinking protein shakes as a regular part of your diet, even if just one meal, say breakfast. Thanks for your help!

Protein drinks make me nauseous
Jnfinney replied to Jnfinney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. I’m going to look into protein hot cocoa. I already have genepro on hand, so I’ll start using some more of that. I’ve been sipping on my protein water as well. I might just stick to my Fairlife milk until Tuesday because the protein drink I had today actually made me vomit ☹️ -
I know there is a lot of controversy over it, but I swear by Genepro. It was recommended by my Dr. and Nut. Sent from my LG-LS993 using BariatricPal mobile app

I have a protein that is flavorless. I'm 3 years out and have tried many different proteins. I just found this product 3 months ago and it is great. The name of it is GENEPRO. I bought it online. If you have a AMAZON account you can go there to find it. Sorry about you having a hard time. I add the protein to my coffee mostly You can add it to anything you want the good thing is it has 30 grams of protein. I honestly can not taste it. I just mix it in a little warm water then add it to my coffee Works GREAT!!

Protein recommendations!

I've just hit 5 weeks post op & cant seem to shake this stall for crap! Its been ongoing for about 2 weeks now & it's frustrating but I KNOW I'm not getting in the recommended Protein. Please suggest some protein brands & flavours you use to help get your goal in! I've tried the Syntrax nectar but only Fuzzy Navel & Carribean Cooler. Wasn't a fan of the former, but the latter is really good! I'm not looking for something with a weird after taste or anything like that. Bonus points if I can put it in Water (to make a protein rich "crystal light") or even if it's *truly* unflavoured. (Heard about GENEPRO but don't know much about them) Lay them on me!
