Gallbladder removal BEFORE surgery
dbrjredd replied to ozzy22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, sounds like we're in the same boat lol. I don't like being constipated, but sometimes I wish I could stop myself up just so I don't have to go potty so much. This might be a little TMI, but my booty is RAW from so much pottying! Enough is enough...I'm 5 weeks post op & it hasn't gotten any better 4 me. So let's hope after 8 weeks I'll be back to normal. I’m 10 days post op and did not go through this BUT I am dealing with the worst constipation ever, as soon as u can start tolerating drinking mix MIRALAX in your drink. I had to givemyself an Enema last night and it didn’t help completely. Sorry for the TMI. I just want to help -
Eat What You Want In Moderation Or No?
kmbrlycool replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't figured out this whole thing yet... I recently have been having a lot of rice cakes... Granted they aren't horrible for you... But they are also not good for you either. And I can eat like 3 full cakes at once... Makes me worry about my stomach stretching. But... I feel like I do this more so when I am gettin and have my period (tmi?) -
So the pain finally went away and my shoulder feels better. Thanks for the advice to keep moving bandsters. It really help, but now I'm in liquid diet hell. If I drink one more whey protein shake. I feel like I am starving. I have also been a tad bit bad. I ate a small bite of a chicken panini sandwich my daughter had,but after I chewed it I spit it out. Big mistake. That tiny morsel of normal came back in the form of exposive diarrhea, I know tmi, but someone has got to say it and days later I thought I could have a chicken chunk. It was soft and it's chicken right healthy. Wrong!!! Same thing that happen before happened again so no more cheating for me.But I have got to tell you I'm raging bitch  on this liquid diet.Yes I have gone from 316 to 296 in two weeks  but when came I use my teeth again.

YES, I hadn't had a normal period in 3 years before surgery. Then BOOM right away I get a flow from hell, and then another one 3 weeks later. I visited the tampon asle at the store for the first time in years and discovered they made "ultra" absorbancy tampons now (one step above "super plus"). Let me tell you, they may seem like a good idea at first, but they swell up to the size of a baseball which makes getting them back out kind of tough. Ahem... sorry, TMI. :biggrin2: ETA: I think the period that came right after surgery was heavy because of the blood thinners I was on... I had the same thing happen after I had hip surgery before... but that doesn't explain Auntie Flo #2....

GmasDolly replied to womanof1000secrets's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on the other side now and struggling a little. I feel like I am hungry all the time but that could all be in my mind. I am only 2 days post op and feeling a bit better than yesterday except for the hunger. Oh did I mention the first bowl movement you have can be quite painful?? I just spent 20 mins trying to get one bm out. Sorry for the tmi. -
Effects on Menstruation after surgery
lkcraig316 replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am perimenopausal and I have noticed that my hot flashes have decreased DRASTICALLY since surgery. I'm sure some of it is related to a thinner layer of fat but that can't be all of the cause of it. My hot flashes start around the base of my neck and the fire goes right up into my face. I have broken out in sweats since I've had the surgery (sometimes when I eat something for the first time or eat too much), but I have not had that face burning feeling. Also, (TMI for some) I have started having discharge again and I haven't had that for years. I take my birth control pill straight through (no stops for periods) so I don't know if it would have affected my flow or not. -
Aw shucks, ya'll are awesome. I don't want to interfere with anyone else's schedule. I see that you've done LaMadeline and Coffee Rani. I work in Mandeville right next to Bistro Byronz (probably TMI for a blog, but oh well!). I can easily get to the Northpark area in Covington if necessary. I'm not sure how your schedules are. I am still in the very early phases. So, coming up with a diet friendly place rather than a gluttonous place is hard! LOL I love Coffee Rani's Rani-watchers menu (in Mandeville). I also like that LaMadeline has fat-free dressing for their caesar salad, and I dig the ahi Tuna at N'tini. Bistro Byronz is right next to me which is always good. As long as we are in the area between Mandeville and Northpark, I can do anything. Help me decide Please? I am not sure of budgets, time, etc. I don't want to overstep! I'm a terrible decision maker.

Some people lose less, some lose more, but you lose more pounds per month the higher your BMI. I lost 23 pounds the first month, but I was also well over 300 pounds. I lost 16 pounds the second month and 17 pounds the third month and only 7 pounds the fourth month and 11 pounds the fifth. My point is... your weight loss isn't going to be steady. It'll be all over the place. And even if your numbers are smaller... every pounds adds up. I reached my goal weight in 18 months (admittedly I did have the gain back that happens during your second year leading up to your third, partially due to a med that made me gain weight, but I'm still satisfied with my weight loss which is maintaining at 186-191. I'm 189 today. But I'm also having my monthly so I'm sure it'll go down again after the fact lol. TMI, sorry.). Technically speaking I still lost over the amount that was projected for me. My lowest weight according to my surgeon's office was estimated to be around 189 pounds (where I'm today) but I got down to 175 at my lowest. It was estimated that I'd end up at 199 during the gain back period when I hit 3 years. I'm at 189 currently and my 3 year surgiversary is about 2 weeks away. So you can certainly lose more than you surgeon says, but it's very much about your own body, metabolism, and dedication. I mean, I honestly feel like I could have lost another 10-15 pounds if I'd been super strict with my diet, but I didn't feel like I could have maintained that and kept my sanity. During the weight loss phase I took that time to learn a new way to eat in a sustainable way. Being super restrictive just is not something that I can do for the rest of my life to keep off an extra 10-15 pounds. My dietician says that the way I chose to go about things is healthier and sustainable and my blood work looks great so I'm clearly getting enough nutrition with my diet and my weight has been steady and maintained for the last 6 months (for almost a year before that it maintained at 179-183, but the stupid med made me gain weight. It's been maintaining where it's at now though for 6 months, so that's good). Just, take your doctors numbers into account and then try and smash them if you can lol. Also, sorry for the long post. I'm an aspie so sometimes I do give out what some think of as pointless info that they feel they don't need, but hopefully this did help you in some way. That was the intent, anyway.

I was sleeved on the 18 th too! Congrats to u!!! I haven't passed any gas either. Had a few small burps but that was it. My pain has been more from gas and the bad headache I got from the morphine. They ended up giving me toradol and that helped much better than the morphine. Have u had any trouble keeping stuff down? I had 3 baby spoon worth of vanilla chobani yogurt when I got home and it slide right back up. I'm supposed to be doing all liquids and that includes Greek yogurt without bit of fruit in it; low fat cream soups strained; sugar free pudding and jello... nothing feels good once I swallow. Wondering if my sleeve is still too swollen to handle anything other than liquids. I think I'm calling the nutritionist tomorrow just to check. I don't want to lose muscle mass or hair. Oh and have you tried gas x strips or chewables? I chewed up 2 today and it seemed to help get stuff moving. No gas out but it did help with a small bm. Tmi but hope it helps! Keep in touch. Love finding all these sleeve sisters!

Menstrual cramps but I went through menopause 10 years ago!?
brown eyed gal posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Warning - delicate female topic! Ok, I'm three months out and have these really stange pains. The closest thing I can compare them to are menstrual cramps although I haven't had a period in over 10 years. It cramps in my uterus area and sometimes radiates on down through my vaginal area. Sorry if TMI, just wondering if anyone else has had such sensations. They are not unbearable but bothersome! -
Need support to get through pre-op diet!!
Dibley Dawn replied to southernrootslbc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am on day 5 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. i have not been struggling as much as i thought i would be. the worst thing for me has been ...ummm, er..tmi, but the bathroom visits. i literally can't be more than 5 feet away from one. i try to finish all of my liquids by 8pm so i can at least get a decent nights sleep (without having to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes) make sure you are getting plenty of other fluids, that seems to also help with the full factor. i know by the end of the day it has been a struggle to get that last protein shake down because i just don't want it. i am supposed to have about 1,000 calories a day, but i am hovering around 950, which i think is probably acceptable. as of this morning, i have lost 11 pounds..... -
How Are You One Week Post-Opers
strawberryblue posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I'm one week post-op. For the first time, my temperature was under 99 F. I drove myself to the post office and back, and didn't take any pain meds (yet, lol). I am steadily getting down fluids to stay hydrated but, TMI, the loose stools have shown up. I can deal with that slight annoyance since it should taper off with the mushies stage. The pain is decreasing day by day, but in lieu of pain comes weakness/tiredness. Anyways, I really thought I'd be worse off at this point. How are you doing 1 week post op!? Sent from my iPhone -

Was THAT dumping? (Wine related)
freethinker posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am beating myself up for this one - 6 wks post-op and last night I drank 2 iced-down glasses of wine over about 2 hour period. It was dumb and I was not thinking because at 4 am I awoke with a burning tummy. TMI - but the bathroom was not pretty: sweating, wanting die, other gross things and me laying on the cold bathroom floor... I am thinking it was the sugar in the wine that caused the "dumping"?? I feel like craaaap today. -
So the swelling seems to be mostly all gone down today finally. Yesterday I noticed that on a lot of corners where I have the incision sites taped (these are square bits of clear stuff with masking tape on them) I was getting blisters. So what I did was cut away the tape where there was blisters. A few of the blisters popped- mostly the bigger ones and of course there was cross pus and all but I put antibiotic ointment and bandaides over them and then a lot of the smaller ones didn't so I am just leaving them alone. Probably some bizare allergic reaction. I have sensitive skin. Then right now I am also finally starting on the full liquid phase. I stayed on Clear liquids for longer because I had a PB on day two post op when I drank too much all at once. So now I am slowly sipping on a slim fast. It never tasted so good before. Last night I was drinking Protein Water and at some points it was hard to remember to go slow because I was thirsty but I managed. When I drink I usually get a nice burp in return. Sometimes there is some pressure for a moment or two and then some more gas comes up. I guess I have pretty tight restriction! I sure hope it loosens up in the next week or two! Also right now I am still having dreams about food but they have changed. Before it was always food and then I would wake up starving. Now since my PB I have been having more nightmares. LOL. Like I dream that I ate a slice a pizza really fast and of course it is yummy but then I remember that I now I have the band I can't eat a slice of pizza really fast like that- just gulping it down so I am waiting for it... Or that I ate a soft solid too early but I was really careful and only had one bite. Or I discovered a huge tub of ice cream of ice cream in the freezer (chocolate cheesecake swirl with rocky road) and then I dished out just a half a cup and worked on chewing really well because I was afraid of upsetting the band. So now all my food dreams feature the band as well as food. This is a definite change. And when I wake up I always take a moment and sort of wonder what I might have eaten and then I realize that off course it was a dream. I meant to go to the walk in clinic today because I think I have a UTI because of all the blood in my urine lately (a bit freaky I'll admit as I'm not used to that) and also I started running a low fever (99.2) last night but its stable at least. And I called the doctor on call at my clinic and they said walk in should be able to handle it and not send me to ER ( I don't feel up to sitting around for hours there. I just don't. I'm not sick enough or well enough at this point... You know what I mean), since it sounds like a basic UTI. But today I slept through the hours that the walk in clinic was open (8 am to 8pm)... hey sleeping is what I do especially when I don't feel well. And tomorrow I will try again. I also sent my DH out for cranberry juice. So of course I am worrying about antibioitics now and what form they will take. I am allergic to most antibiotics-- at least the ones I have taken. Basically I can taken the erithymiacin derivitives and clindimyiacin (erithmiacin itself makes me projectile vomit so I like to avoid it). But those tend to be big pills or make me nauseated with stuff or whatever. So I don't know if there is a liquid form. I figure I would ask for zithromax as that is the least pills and side effects. And I don't want to be adventurous and try a new class of antibiotics or whatever because I don't feel up to the whole not breathing swelling rash stuff. This of course assumes it is an UTI but what else could it be? I swear when I wipe after I pee there is more blood than Urine, probably TMI. But it is sort of interesting too. And no, it isn't my period. I also finally lost a couple of pounds. I had somehow managed to gain weight after the surgery. This was pretty disconcerting especially since I was on no food and clear liquids and all. But then yesterday I was two pounds down finally. I haven't changed my ticker yet because I haven't felt like doing it yet. I also think the house is getting even messier around me. My husband said a pile of clothes collapsed in the laundry room and I don't think he did anything about it. The kitchen doesn't look good at all. He is working on putting in a newer, bigger, tankless water heater (we have a tankless that is fairly new but it doesn't keep up with our water needs esp since we are doing a bathroom renovation). So there are pipes and stuff all over. *Sigh* I'll get on him tomorrow. I'm going to be still down and resting at least a few more days so he needs to do more than he usually would, not that he would do a lot...

Colonics For Vsg Related Constipation?
AnewMe@28 replied to sirensiren's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I usually eat 2 Fiber one bars and something is bound to move within a few hours. But a couple weeks ago, after about a week of forgetting to eat my fiber one bars, nothing seemed to work and I was super uncomfortable and it was 10 o'clock at night. (TMI warning) DH rushed off to the local walmart and came back with an enema and chocolate flavored ex-lax. I opted for the enema. Worked in seconds. I have noticed that alot of folks say less in so less out, well boy oh boy that was not the case with me. I definately needed the assitance. Hope TMI was not too bad. -
TMI I know but this is the LGBT forums. Have you found any issues with swallowing...protein? (yes, that) Are you unable to eat/drink for 30 min/1 hour afterward? I know this seems like a joke topic but honestly curious. I know I'll have to be careful after surgery before being active to avoid hernias so figured, a less aggressive sexual activity would be better. Thank you.

Yes it was done at The Civic. I thought you guys would get a laugh out of the burping, etc. but it's TRUE!! Let me tell you, it's amazing how satisfying a good burp or fart it. Let me tell you. TMI but by the time you are done you really don't care. I was the only one released that was done that day. The other 2 patients had to stay. My roommate wasn't doing as well, and she lived a far ways away.
