    Feeling Defeated And Depressed

I'm 4.5ish months out as well (7/3). I've lost 79lbs. It's been small steady amounts with some weeks w 0 loss. I think we are still in a good range. I know it's frustrating to not see that scale move but try to focus more on NSVs like how your clothing feels, your energy levels, coming off RX meds, and your overall mood. Hang in there. We can do this!! Prayers :-)

    Are You Nervous?

Hello Congratulations on your surgery date! Excitement is definitely a better a better emotion to start the adventure with. An adventure it certainly is as each day I have small NSV's (non scale victory). Easier to move, clothes loosing up, etc. I am 3 weeks out from surgery and had similar questions asked by it seemed like everyone that I knew as the surgery date got closer. My typical response was "no, I've researched it thoroughly and I am confident this is what I need to do". Once people saw that I was confident about it they backed off a little. I go back to work next week and am expecting a deluge of "how much have you lost?" LOL - much better question given all that effort put forth to make it happen.
  11. This is a dream of mine. Even mentioned my desire to do a mud run at my psych eval. Fortunately, even that didn't make me seem too crazy for surgery. Congrats on your super awesome NSV!!
  12. Okay, so it was freezing out this morning and as soon I started my van the tire pressure light came on; I went to a local store that has air and had a guy (a very nice looking one) come from around the OTHER side of my van to "help" me put air in my tires…He then proceeded to check every tire on my van to make sure they were all good. I was like WOW!! I'm happily married, but it sure made me feel good!!!

    Three Months Out....

Well I thought I'd do a little update since it has been awhile. I'm 3 months out from my surgery on Aug 9th. I'm currently weighing in at 304 lbs. That is 60 lbs down from before my pre-op diet. I feel great and couldn't be happier with the results. A couple of weeks ago I slacked off on my exercising and didn't do anything for an entire week. I didn't feel good but that's really not an excuse. To get me back on track I bought a dry erase board to log my daily exercise. It's also to keep up with how many reps I do with my weights so I can start increasing those gradually. I also purchased a fit bit which I love. It keeps up with how many steps I take, miles walked, calories burned... you get the picture. I have it linked to my fitness pal so it will take off calories burned. It's really handy and very motivating. Well my one big goal was to be under 300 lbs by Christmas but it looks like I might hit that goal by Thanksgiving. I've had a ton of NSV's so I'm going to list a few of those here. 1. Going shopping from my closet - I've had a lot of cute shirts just sitting in my closet bc they were too small. Now they fit!! 2. Bought some pants from a regular dept store- I actually bought some pants from Kohl's a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been able to shop anywhere but Lane Bryant in years!! 3. Seat belt doesn't pinch me and stays clasped now- I was having an issue with my hips/thighs being too wide so the seat beat in my vehicle wouldn't latch properly and would come undone while I was driving down the road. Fits great now! 4. No more Meraligia Paresthetica!! This is a big one bc it was causing me so much pain. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a nerve on your outer thigh that gets pinched bc of extra weight. It causes numbess, pain and burning. It got so bad for me that I would wake up at night and the pain would be so intense it would take about 20 minutes of slowly moving my leg around until I could get up. It always happened if I ended up on my back. I'm having ZERO issues with this now. 5. NO fast food. Fast food was my weakness and probably one of the main reasons I weighed so much. I haven't had a burger and fries in over 4 months and when I think about it doesn't even sound good. If we do grab fast food I pick subway or chick-fil-a (cool chicken wrap with no dressing is amazing). 6. Decrease in blood pressure meds. I was able to go on a lower dose of BP meds which also happens to save me $50 a month ($60 rx is now a $10 rx). 7. No more kidney pain/frequent UTI's. The last several years I've had kidney pain and stones, and frequent UTI's. I drank a lot of diet soda and little water. Now I drink a lot of water and no soda. 8. I really do have a collar bone. I know this is silly to some but this is my favorite NSV. It's so weird to feel it after not being able to for so long that I find I touch it alot without thinking. Yes I'm weird but I'm totally ok with that. These are just a few but there are many more. It amazes me that so much has changed already even though I have a long way to go. I can't wait to see what the next four months will bring!!! Believe

    Sleep Apnea Questions

I was set on 15 as well and was told the same thing about my narrow airway. After 45 pounds they reduced the pressure. Getting off this thing is my #1 NSV. I hate this damn thing even though I feel much better after starting it a few months ago.
  15. People love a train wreck....or ever notice traffic backed up for miles because of an accident on the other side of the center median in the other lanes? News room saying...If it bleeds, it leads.... NO ONE knows I have had WLS except for immediate family....I just did not want to explain myself to everyone...it is something I needed to do, for myself, my health, and ultimately my Family..... So I received nothing but compliments during my journey, and no criticisms....and today, 3 years later, being fat is but a old memory to everyone, no one talks about it anymore, and all have accepted the fact, and take it for granted that I am what I am....a fit person without an oz of fat on me (as someone said yesterday) New people I meet never knew I was once over 100 lbs heavier, and the subject of me loosing weight is now old news, no longer something to talk about in the office............the ultimate NSV.... Ironically, the one family member who was my biggest critic with nothing but stories of failures......is one of the fattest people I know. And she keeps getting fatter!!!...she should not be the one throwing stones...but even she has now stopped talking about it seeing the entire process was 100% successful with zero complications.....

    New Goal

You can for sure do it!! I hit Onederland about two months ago and it's a crazy amazing NSV. You can totally do the 5K by then. I used the 5K Runner app on my phone and the voice talks you through the training while you are listening to Pandora radio. I highly recommend it. And don't feel pressure to jog the whole thing, I did 1/2 and 1/2 and that was HUGE for me. It all counts =)

    New Goal

That's an awesome goal!! And totally attainable!! My first 5k is going to be this spring....it's a personal NSV I'm trying to reach. But a weight goal for me is to be in "onederland" by February 15. My husband bought be tickets to see luke bryan and I want to be under 200 by then!! I'm 217 now, so I really think I can do it if I don't kill myself over the holidays!! Wish me luck!
  18. I went in for my 6 month check up today and I have lost 75% of my excess weight. I am only 28 pounds from goal and I am down 5 sizes (20 -> 12). I feel great, I look great and I am oh so happy with myself. I can move better, I am exercising because I WANT to and I haven't been happier than I am right now in I don't know how long. So what dumbass move did I make today? I signed up for a Rugged Maniac that's coming to my town in the spring. WOOT!!! I am so excited. It's a 5k with 24 tough and muddy obstacles to conquer. There are walls to scale, fire pits to jump, logs to hop, ropes to climb, mud pits, nets... I am so freaking excited!!! What a HUGE NSV for me!!! Just the fact that I signed up and am ready to go for it tells me how far I've come in my confidence within myself physically and that's thrilling. The fact that my two girls (they will be 14 and 16 when the race comes) are doing it with me makes me giddy. What a wonderful memory this will make for us. I'm hoping hubby joins in, too!! My goal is to get within five pounds of goal by the time the event is here. The obstacles are pretty team oriented and there is always someone there to give you a hand up (or a push up if they are behind you) and it's about having fun more so than it is competitive. I think it would be much easier for someone to give my 150 pound ass up a 12 foot wall than where I am right now. And if I don't need help? EVEN BETTER!!!! www.ruggedmaniac.com If you want to check out pics!!

I'm Eating. At 1 Am This Morning. Wth?!

My hunger varies by day and I've asked other naturally thin people and they agree, this is quite normal. When I look at my calories on MFP I see not a flat line, but rather a sinusoidal curve. So I wouldn't worry about the odd days up because they seem to be followed by fewer calorie days. Very. Ew for me. Previously if I was on a diet,I was starving! And you can bet I ate very damn calorie I was allowed. Now, if seems more a function of true hunger rather than anything else. Wonderful NSV in some ways

    Nsv :)

My 10-year-old Goddaughter said the funniest thing over the weekend. She knows about my surgery and she's been the best little cheerleader...except when she holds the Peanut Butter cups under my nose for me to smell and then reminds me "oh, you can't have that..." and laughs her evil little laugh. This weekend she looked at me and sheepishly said "Aunt Di, your butt used to stick way out in the back...no offense. But, now it doesn't. You look good!" I hugged her so tight! And danced around in my new jeans that are 2 or 3 sizes smaller than the ones I was wearing before my surgery in September. Gotta love her

    Nsv!

I went in for a follow-up today. Completely in the green zone and no fill needed or wanted. I am down almost 40 lbs and the NP said I have far exceeded what they consider "normal" (1-2 lbs per week). Woot woot! Anyway, I have yet to really buy anything new since losing all this weight. So I went to Old Navy and tried on several pairs of pants, all skinny jeans that were 3-4 sizes smaller then when I first started this process!!!!! I think the people around the changing room I was in were wondering what was going on with my squeals of delight! Did I mention they were skinny jeans? We are doing family pics on 11/24 and I'm excited about it!
  22. I flew for the first time this weekend since having the surgery in July. Wow! What a difference. I used to be able to put the seatbelt on, but it would be snug and stretched out to the max length. When I put it on this time around, I pulled a good 6-10 inches of seatbelt to make it fit properly. The scale hasn't moved in a month or more, but things like this are keeping me going!

Wonderful NSV. Pre-gain I used to wear seven rings and lots of bracelets. I look forward to that again at some point. Thanks for the inspiration this morning!
