    Body Dysmorphia is real

Yes, I'm going through some of this as well. Down 103 lbs which is past my goal but is a healthy weight for me. It is the saggy skin. Never thought it would bother me but it does. I'm OK when I see myself in clothes. it is when dressing, etc. and I see the saggy skin that I still feel heavy. It is not even so much what it looks like but what I have to do to manage it. Not excited about doing skin removal surgery but am now considering it. But I remind myself of how wonderful I feel and how much more energy I have compared to 10 months ago. I feel incredible and can do so much more than I even imagined. And every morning I wake up and write down 3 gratitudes in my life. Makes some saggy skin seem pretty trivial. Good Luck!

I'm doing a pouch reset. Just start at the beginning. Clear liquids then protein drinks the pureed food and soft then.....for 10 days. Also too you can do a search on here and you'll get tons of information Good luck 👍💓
  3. My name is Elaine I am 61 and I'm 270 lbs. I have been so ashamed of myself I haven't left my apartment accept for Dr. APPTS. I have my first consultation on April 10 about the surgery I wish I could do it on my own but I can't. Can anyone tell me what that appt will be like? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I know others have posted about this, but body dysmorphia is so real. I am wearing size small in shirts (and some of them feel big). I do still wear a 8 or 10 bottom which isn't tiny, but was always my goal size (I'm 5'10 so would be way to thin in a 0 or 2)... And yet, I still see myself as overweight and as the biggest person in any given room. Even in pictures taken Saturday I feel like I look large. Some of that I think is due to the excess skin, especially on my legs... and some may be some of my jackets and stuff are still older and too big. But a lot of it is just my mind playing games. Anyway - has anyone gotten past this and able to recognize their own healthy body? Any tips for things that worked for you?
  5. I have sized out of my original pants and shirt sizes and I only have a handful of clothing in the next size down and almost nothing that I could wear to work. I have been continuing to wear my old shirts (size 3x, 4x, 28) but they're super baggy and look ridiculous now. Eventually I will have to stop WFH and go back to work, but I don't want to spend a fortune on the next size down clothing. I know someone mentioned thrift stores to me, but I don't believe I'm going to find a ton of pants and shirts that I'd want to wear in the size 24-26, pants or 2x shirts. I'm not quite at a 24 since the 26s are fitting well for now and at 5lbs/10 days I'm not going to drop clothing sizes particularly quickly. Lane Bryant and Catherines are so expensive that I hesitate to spend anything. Just wondering what other people are doing or have done for clothes.
  6. I had the sleeve done on 2/4. Lost weight for 3 weeks, stalled for 5 and now just recently started losing weight again. The problem I have is that it seems slower than before. Since March 27th I have maybe lost 5 or 6 lbs. I have 2 different scales, one is a body composition scale that I picked up to see if I could get some kind of baseline on my stats. Anyway 5 lbs in 10 days doesn't seem like much compared to how fast it went in the first 3 weeks. Just wondering if that is normal expected weight loss now? By my calculations I should be burning about a net of 2000 calories per day, which seems like I should be losing more weight than I am. Maybe I'm just impatient because I lost so much perceived ground during the ridiculously long stall.
  7. I am finally home! I got surgery April 1st thursday, they kept me in hospital till April 4th! Easter morning I was released! crazy thing is that I had more nausea than pain! I couldn't tell since I was so sleepy, tired what was really bothering me but it was nausea. I couldnt tolerate anything liquids but then by saturday night sunday morning I was drinking normal no nausea. the nausea felt like when you go on a spinning ride, for me it was hard because I avoid those rides for that reason I am far too sensitive. I am home though I did it! I am happy although it might not show because I am ssssssssssssssso tired sleepy. after 10 years of trying to get this surgery, I tried with Kaiser, I thought maybe if I have to go to six month 3 hour dietitian course with other bariatric pals, I will do it (but no) I chickened out. Then I tried with another surgery doctor in Arcadia , I thought maybe if I pay for my monthly dietitian I will go through with it( but no) I chickened out. so finally finally my mind, heart and soul aligned to go threw with it. It wasnt until then that I went all the way. you have to be in it. you have to believe, you have to think of yourself the positive leave the negative behind. you have to be at peace with the outcome. the fact my surgery was on EASter week this made it special to me like God was with me no matter what.
  8. I have the same issue. Pre OP, I was told to try different brands of protein shakes to make sure I find a brand/flavor I like especially since I'll be stuck drinking it. Well now, I can't stand any of the flavors I got. My favorite sweets are anything chocolate, and now I hate them. You are lucky your doctor's program has a puree stage. My program is 28 days post-op of full liquids and starting slow but I'll be able to eat normally again minus raw vegetables of course for I believe another month. Only 10 more days to go! Lol As for feeling full, I am now able to drink more water than a week ago. Instead of sips, I can drink more. When eating/drinking my soups. I eat until I feel a little pain ( only 2-4 spoon full ) and I know I'm full. Remember with a new tummy you have to now basically train yourself to know you are full. I would take a spoonful and maybe wait a min until the next intake. Congrats btw on this new journey!!!

    Anyone for October 2020?

Hi Everyone - Just checking in! I am currently 152lbs (5’3”, 10/19 surgery, 213 Day of Surgery). Stopped doing extra exercise in Feb due to continued issues with my upper back. It got really bad. I had an X-ray and I have a slight curve to the left in my thoracic spine - not big enough to concern the doctor yet (no visible tumors or anything), but it’s probably the reason for my pain and numbness. Going to start PT next week or the week after. My hair is still falling out, although it is slowing down a lot. I chopped my hair to a bob and it looks way better, but I still have to be careful where I part my hair lol! I am not allowed snacks or more food than 1/2 cup for my 3 meals, so I was wondering how you all are getting in calories? I am anywhere between 550 and 800 per day. I have started having food cravings again, but not hunger (except for the day before my period!!! Eek!). I have tried adding higher fat foods like olive oil, peanut butter, real butter, but it doesn’t take me too far. I am not sensitive to fatty foods. I also noticed that peanuts trigger a stall for a couple of days, even during “losing periods” (I stall for much of the month and then lose rapidly for 5-10 days at a time). I wonder if I am sensitive to them? How is everyone else doing?

    Is this not working?

I had my surgery on 2/8 and have been losing pretty slow as well. You aren't alone. This month I've only lost like 6 lbs. Honestly, I think it's because all of the restrictive dieting I've done before. My body might be used to it. I think we just have to wait it out. There are so many positive stories about people who lost weight slow and still met their goals at the end of year one. I'm focusing on that. I figure even if I lose 5-10 lbs a month I cant still meet my goal in a year. On a positive (not so positive) note, I went on vacation last week, and wasn't so health conscience and I didn't gain any weight either. Seems my stall works both ways.
  11. I had my WLS in August 2020 and have lost 90 lbs. down to 166 lbs. Before my surgery I could not stand or walk for more then 10 minutes and had to use a walker for any distance. I had and still have some back issues but have been able to walk/hike up to about 3 miles for the last couple of months. I want to try to build up speed and want to be able to do a 5k race in September. I jogged a quarter mile today at 3:11 - makes me realize I am still way out of shape. Any ideas on how I can build up my stamina and be able to run a 5k in September?
  12. Hi everyone! I was watching a YouTuber who had VSG before I had my surgery. Her channel is My Level 10 Life if you’d like to check it out - she has a lot of great information on the surgery and life after. Anyway, she had recommended souper cubes, so I invested in some and I love them. You can bake in them or freeze things in them, and they are portion controlled. However, they are a bit pricey. So, yesterday I was at a Marshall’s and came across some silicone ice cube trays with a lid for $3.99. They are the perfect portion for me right now and are a great alternative to souper cubes if you don’t want to dish out $30+. The only thing with these ones is that I can’t bake in them, but oh well.
  13. ABSOLUTELY! I've bee prematurely menopausal for 5 years. My Bypass was 10 months ago on the 9th. I've lost 51 pounds. I'm slower than anyone I know on this site. The same was true with my diet attempts before surgery. I just keep trucking along.
  14. My surgeon requested that I not gain more than 5 lbs prior to getting my bypass. I’m still a month out and noticed that I’ve gained 10 lbs since my last appointment. Has anyone else experienced weight gain prior to their surgery date? I have been lenient with my food choices recently since I will be starting the pre-op diet on 4-16...and know my future diet will be very constrictive. I am actually thinking of starting the pre-op diet sooner to counter the weight gain I’ve experienced. I’m curious to know if others have experienced these issues! Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

    Help my imagination

I’m a 20 year old guy and I’m just over 2 months post op and down 64 pounds with about another 75 or so left until I reach my goal weight. Men (within 10 years of my age) who had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure done, what did you look like when you reached your goal weight? Excess skin? Noticeable muscle definition? Just trying to get an idea of how I may look like it’s very difficult to imagine what I could look like after being obese for about a decade.
  16. I got a CPAP before surgery, I hate it!!! The sleep doctor said I had mild sleep apnea and if I lost 10% of my body weight, he expected I would no longer need it. I lost 15% of my body weight pre-surgery, took the CPAP with me to the hospital for surgery, and haven’t taken it out since I’ve been home.

    Hungry hungry hungry

I'm 2 months out & I'm starving & my weight seemed to slowed down to about 3lbs. The Dr is gonna b so pissed. I'm even doing the stationary bike for 30 -45 mins a day along w stretching for 10 mins & my weight isn't going anywhere. I've kicked in walking for 10 mins plus helping out in the garden during the afternoon. I hv been constipated and I see being constipation goes along w my back pain. But my weight is not budging..... so now I'm going back to stage 1 for a week but it won't get me dwn 10lbs in 2wks but I'm hoping Any advice??
  18. Whew - That's a loaded question really. The first couple of weeks can be pretty rough to get in everything you're "supposed" to get in. Everyone is so different in what they tolerate with regards to eating and/or drinking. Personally, I've never been sick from drinking too fast (just felt really full). Mostly just listen to your body. Get your fluids in, even if it's an ounce or two an hour. It DOES get easier. In about two weeks I was able to drink normally (I couldn't down a 16oz bottle of water in 10 minutes, but I could fairly easily do it in 30). DON'T compare yourself to others. If you need to do an oz at a time, just do that. BUT, if you're only doing very small amounts at a time, make sure you always have something in your hand to keep hydrated. Protein water is a good option at this stage - Also, changing the temp of your fluids make make it easier or harder - Try something room temp, warm, and cold to see what your body tolerates better. I was sleeved in August 2020 - I can more or less now eat at a normal pace (just small amounts) - DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT try to eat fast - You WILL regret it - trust me on that one... It's a mistake you'll only make once or twice (and again, trust me... you WILL make it...). Bottom line, listen to your body, especially at first until you know what does and doesn't work for you. We're all different and tolerate things differently.

    Hey March surgery folks

I just had my surgery this past Monday, 3/29. Mine was in the afternoon so I didn't really wake up fully from anesthesia til sometime in the middle of the night, but got right up and walked around the floor. I was so thirsty and had the driest mouth, but fortunately I had no problem at all with water. I went home the next day after drinking my protein shake without issue. I have had some soreness on my right side but if I stay on top of Tylenol and advil, I've been comfortable for the most part. I'm still tolerating fluids and shakes ok, but find sometimes I drink too fast and will get a spasm. I do have an rx for spasms, but I think I really just need to slow down. I'm drinking 2 protein shakes a day and getting my fluids in. I feel mostly fine, but I am still a little tired and have to remember I'm still healing and to take it easy. I am very encouraged having lost 19 lbs between my preop diet and my surgery.

    Weight loss post pregnancy

I had the sleeve done in October 2017. I was 300lbs and went down to 185lbs and i was still losing. I found out I was pregnant back in June 2019 and it was unplanned. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and when I had the baby I was 252lbs, and I am now 230lbs. The pregnancy was hard on my body, and stretched me out and caused my stomach muscles not to work and I am now in the process of have a revision surgery of my sleeve to a bypass as I developed severe GERD during pregnancy that never corrected itself after. I think I would have lost weight if I was able to breastfeed, but my daughter being 7 weeks early made it difficult and I had no choice but to supplement with formula. After giving her a bottle she never wanted to breastfeed. When I was breastfeeding and pumping, I went down to 218lb the first few days after giving birth but my body wasn't producing enough milk . Probably because I couldn't eat or drink enough that was required for my body to produce the milk needed. thus my nutritionist told me good luck losing the fat stores w out breastfeeding. Overall, it was worth it and I do it again. I had just turned 35 so maybe my age was a factor too. However, I love being a mom. It was worth it and I'd do it again. I was told since I was 13 I'd never be a mother ( I wasn't heavy just had other issues). She's my miracle and she was worth it! If you want a baby, then have a baby. Will your body be the same. No. Probably never again. Is it hard and exhausting ? YES and YES! . Will you gain! YES! Will you lose it? YES! As long as you don't develop issues like me, do everything wrong like me, and see your dietitian which I didn't, I'm sure you'll be fine. Just don't use it as an excuse to over eat, and eat poorly or starve because you're afraid of gaining! I also lost my father 10 days prior to finding out I was pregnant. I was an emotional mess and did everything wrong. Do it right and I'm sure you'll be fine. Either way it's worth it. And Id do it again. She was worth every pound! Trust me.

    Any March Surgeries?

I had my sleeve done this past Monday the 29th. Tolerated water and shakes very well. Mostly felt tired. Tylenol and Advil for the most part are managing the discomfort, but I have to remind myself to take it easy. I'm doing well on the liquid diet, but find sometimes I'm drinking too fast and it causes discomfort, but all and all I feel things are going well. With my 2 week preop diet and 5 days post surgery I am down 19 pounds and very pleased!

    Living Rent Free

A statistically significant sample size would include 10s of thousands of women, and not just women you know, who are not likely to be a representative sample of all women worldwide. Sorry. And when you make a scientific claim, that men's emotions are inherently different than women's emotions, you'd better believe I'm going to bring the fact that the "data" in this area is pure junk.

How Long Did you have to wait for surgery

Once I got approved it was 7 weeks. But, I also got my approval the last few days of November 2019 and everyone and their mother wanted to have their surgery in December so they had to schedule mine in January 2020. And the end of January at that! 🙄 For most I thinks it's about 3-4 weeks after approval. Because, you know, the 2 week pre-op diet that most bariatric surgeons require and all... Hope everything goes smoothly for you and you get your surgery soon!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Mine is April 19! On day 5 of the 3 week liquid diet. Not fun

    Skin removal surgery

Yes ... my weight loss slowed, then plateaued a bit as I got to what I thought was my goal. But then I lost another 10-15 lbs in 4-6 weeks. That weight loss took me from a C cup to an A cup. Even after I was at a steady weight, below "goal" my body seemed to shift. I have pictures of me in a dress, and then 6 months later, at the same weight it hung on me.
