Best clear protein drink
Clementine Sky replied to Mimipopla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently began using GENEPRO after watching a "grocery haul" video on YouTube that another woman who'd had the VSG made, and I really like it thus far. If I had known about it when I was on clear I would have given it a shot. I'd used Isopure then but wasn't a fan. A tablespoon-sized serving of Genepro has 30 grams of Protein. It dissolves very well in cold liquids, and decently in warm and hot as well but you have to do a bit more stirring (with a fork, rather than a spoon, as per the instructions.) Once you're past the clear stage you can add it to yogurt, smoothies, and the like. http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Medical-Servings/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455085549&sr=8-1&keywords=genepro -

So I had a terrible few days eating and gained a few pounds and needed to reset both my head and my pouch. So today, I started all liquids again. 3 protein shakes for the 3 meals of the day and then just flavored water in between. Has anyone done a sleeve reset or gone back to liquids for a bit to refocus? If so, how long did you do it? Thanks!

List Of Food Ideas For Each Stage?
Fiddleman replied to ashley624's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you are cleared for solids, I really like wild salmon as a go-to for dinner proteins. I really like scrambled eggs with feta cheese and chicken sausage for breakfast. I don't get to eat these every day, but really look forward to when I do eat them. I also eat a lot of different chicken varieties and like those that are combined with garlic, spinach or jalepino flavors. Beef really causes me issues, but I will get better with it over time if I really take the minutes and minutes to chew it into a pulp, literally. -
I would consider yourself lucky and just follow your surgeons advice! If you are really worried, you could always replace a meal a day with a protein shake.

I had my surgery on 7/29 so I'm 5 days post-op! I've done pretty well over all but I'm having a hard time getting in all my Water and all my Protein in. It's tough to drink that much without overfilling! Any tips or tricks to get all this in? I've been a little light headed and I definitely don't want to get dehydrated! I hope everyone else is doing great with their surgeries as well????

Happy One Month Anniversary To Me!
134andhappy replied to 134andhappy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
@manwithkids my starting bmi was 32. I would consult with dr. First since they can be the only ones to address psychologically and physically her condition and success rate. It is just a tool for a lifestyle change...how she uses it will determine success. Bmis are a small portion of the equation bc for me I just was not losing anything with trainer cutting calories everything..insulin resistance it was just not moving... @kika get ready life is about to be amazingly vibrantly changed. I did not do can soups bc one lifestyle change inforced myself to do even with a restricted diet was reduce processed foods. I only have them in emergencies. My soups were all homemade by grandma, she would make me chicken soups and I would only drink the broth. She would make them in large qty's and I would freeze in small containers. Then take them to work. I did always keep a cup of noodles in my purse that's about the worst of the consumption for broths bc you must be prepared at all times. One thing you are not diminishing is your hunger justbthe capacity for which to satisfy that hunger. Instead of 24oz of soup you are stuffed with 2-5oz but be prepared every 2hrs to eat. At the first 2wks restriction is absurd you just hate drinking it's like fireworks in the tummy for a while I was even having warm broth at 6am bc it was the only thing that would tame the beast, after a while keffir yogurt. Another interesting fact coffee ....haven't had coffee since pre surgery and I don't crave it. Learn to love whole foods and start looking at fun places for soups. Once you can eat heartier soups you'll stop at fancy restauratnts and take them to go. Try them now during your pre-op and remember post no chunky soups. Also your Protein shakes are vital...I choose an egg white protein from whole foods with my mixed frozen berrie and 4 oz of coconut juice w Water blend and enjoy Also need to be armed with your story...once weight loss starts everyone wants to know who what when where and how....be consistent and accurate lying sucks but it's no ones business but your own. -
Oh man, I can relate. Four months post-op and I feel nauseated more than half of the time that I eat anything. It's totally hit or miss. I can eat a particular food and feel OK afterwards, and the next time I eat it I feel like I'm going to hurl. I also feel like there's a rock in my esophagus almost all the time. Talked to my surgeon's office and my nutritionist this week, and I'm going to start taking Pepcid to see if it helps. They had me on Omeprazole for three months post-op, and these problems really didn't start until I was done with that. I think my entire digestive tract is just a lot more sensitive than it used to be. @LisaMc47, if you feel like you can't handle solid food, try some protein shakes or drinks, if you can handle them. Sometimes I just have to resort to that, especially since eating solid protein seems to be one of my worst triggers. Also it's true, your relationship to food changes a lot. For me, I don't really take any joy in eating, even the things that I really like, and I think it's because feeling sick after eating more than half the time has conditioned me not to want to eat. Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

Hi and I just want to say I've had four since 2008. It can be extremely painful. I take allopurinol and colchicine together to control it. My level is at 7 which is still high. Normal level should be at 4. It's going to be very hard to control since the key for WLS is more protein and less carbs. So good luck with controlling it. -
question in regards to pre-op diet

Since were talking about pre op diets, during your last 3 days, you're supposed to be on clear liquids. Do you still do your protein shakes? -
Food to feel full.

VSG one month ago
pumpkin07 replied to twoboysandagirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds normal, right? I could have written many of those same things. But here I am 11 mos out and I feel pretty normal. It is scarey, I was so scared. But it is a day by day thing and as you can see it gets better and better, and all the while you are losing weight - which is secondary to your health though I agree. 48 oz of Water is probably good and I had about the same caloric intake for a while. Try sipping real broth bc it will be a nice contrast to the sweetness of the Protein shakes. It is a process, like most things. And an important one. Yeah you! -
What Kind Schedule Did You Keep?
MyGastricSleeveLife replied to jessica0728's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 7 weeks out. I'm on pureeds & can start doing some "soft" meats & veggies & such now. My doctor only wants me to do 3 meals & Water or Protein drinks between meals. Therefore, my schedule the last few weeks has been something like this..... 6:30 AM - 1/4 cup Egg Beaters w/ a little shredded cheese - usually takes me 30 minutes to eat it. Between Breakfast & lunch - I fill a water bottle with a Protein Drink & dilute it with more water to make it last longer & have my Protein & fluids together. It usually takes me a couple hours to drink it. 11:30 AM - 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese with 1/4 cup of marinara sauce & a tablespoon of parmesan - heated in the microwave for 1 minute - usually takes 30 minutes to eat. Between lunch & dinner - I fill a water bottle with a protein drink & dilute it with more water to make it last longer & have my protein & fluids together. It usually takes me a couple hours to drink it. - sometimes I just do a water bottle with crystal light instead of a protein drink in it. Just kinda depends on my mood and my protein intake for the day. 5:00 PM - 1 can of tuna (4 ounces) with 1 tablespoon of mayo - usually takes about 30-45 minutes to eat it. Between dinner & bed (around 9 PM), I usually have part of a water bottle with crystal light. Other things I eat instead sometimes are - refried black Beans, greek yogurt, string cheese. Earlier this week when I had to go to orientation at college & it was full of meetings & not many breaks, I took reduced-sodium beef Jerky and I found some travel cups of tuna that were already drained (but they didn't have mayo in them) & I took them in my backpack. There are also travel packs of tuna with crackers & mayo that are pretty easy to take in a purse or bag places. So far I haven't had to leave home too much because I'm not taking classes this summer & I work from home. I'll have to find some different things for the fall when I'm at school all day - either that or get really used to jerky & tuna! I know some doctors suggest more meals & not using protein drinks & I've seen others use string cheese & such as high-protein "snacks" between meals. I think it might be harder to get in fluids that way since we're not supposed to drink around meals/snacks, but I'm not sure since I don't do it that way. Hope that helps some. I'm not too creative with my foods at this point. Last night, we were out of the house & hadn't had dinner yet & my family stopped at Taco Cabana. I ended up ordering one chicken fajita taco, which is just chicken strips with seasoning in a taco without other toppings. I opened it & dumped the chicken of the tortilla & gave the tortilla to my daughters & I just ate the small chicken strips. Just remember "protein first" as you're progressing your diet. :-) -
Starting a phase 1-2 earlier and the puree phase
JamieLogical replied to Tashina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't progress through any of my food stages early. Even though I "felt" fine, who knows what was really going on on the inside. It wasn't worth risking my healing or causing a leak just so I could chew food one day sooner, you know? I actually never once pureed anything during my pureed phase. I drank my Protein shakes, had strained cream soups a LOT, and used the recipes on Shelly's page (mostly the baked ricotta) here: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html I did a lot of cottage cheese and yogurt. And once I was allowed soft foods, a lot of scrambled eggs and soft cheeses. -
Starting a phase 1-2 earlier and the puree phase
Tashina posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Sleevers! This is kind of a two part post! I have another week on liquids but I was curious if any of you guys decided to move onto the puree phase a day or two early. I don't know if I will try or not but I've been pretty good with Jello and cream Soups. I may try and if it doesn't go well then I'll go back to jello for a couple more days. I'm struggling with getting Protein big time so I'm looking forward to being able to have more options. My second curiosity is what you guys made and ate during your puree phase and if you blended everything or just chewed extra well. Also, if you did a different phase earlier I would like to know about that as well My curiosity always gets the best of me. -
OK, so I weighed today. I know I said I wasn't going to but I did. I have LOST 7 LBS!!!! I was so excited. Although, I feel like I am starving. These protein shakes don't cut it for me. I can't wait until I have a smaller stomach and don't feel the hunger pains!
