Hey guys, I am thinking about having an endoscopic gastric bypass revision. Has anyone completed this? Wondering about weight loss and if there was any complications? Would you recommend for others? I want a revision but the down time for surgical is tricky, so hoping this could be a good options.

My progress has been almost entirely built on routine; if I'm going to change my life I have to build a life that can be successful. I told my husband once I know Future Me is lazy; Current Me has to prepare for that so Future Me has no excuses. So for instance, if I've already got veggies and things cut up for salads or dipping, Lazy Me isn't going to go for the less-healthy option that needs prep work!

I had surgery 2 days before you. nothing (literally, lol) makes me sick. I take the barimelts. Theyre... okay. initial taste is fine but have a terrible aftertaste/burp. lol im on all solid foods (soft/chewed really well). about the only thing i havent tried yet are raw veg/salad. I figure ill give that a bit longer just because I know its a bit harder to digest. I am getting all of my protein from food at this point, 60 grams and am eating around 7/800 calories a day. losing around 3 pounds a week (lower BMI), which I am good with. Slower rate of loss means more muscle kept and less loose skin

My surgery was 2/13/23 and I still can’t meet my liquid and protein goals. I feel hungry but I can’t drink enough, is that normal?

I already eat almost nothing, how will this help me?

Have you discussed your desire to lose weight & your interest in bariatric surgery with your endocrinologist? Are they aware of how little you eat now which must be a concern with your malabsorption issues. Unfortunately, the surgery won’t stop the weight gain side effect of the meds you have to take. Medications are one of the causes behind weight regain after surgery. Are there alternative meds you could take that don’t cause an increase of appetite/weight gain? Malabsorption issues are a possible side effect of weight loss surgery which would only add to your existing situation. Being aware of your nutrient intake & meeting protein goals is a lifelong consideration for everyone after weight loss surgery. Many will always need to take vitamins to supplement their intake via food. Just some things to consider. -
Binge Eating Before Surgery
Krasavitza replied to Hollyserene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you mean by you didn’t do so great? You ate foods you shouldn’t have or you didn’t drink enough water/get enough protein? I’m on day 3 and I just couldn’t drink 4 shakes today and I barely got enough water. On top of that I had 2 spoonfuls of hummus which obviously isn’t allowed and I’m stressing now over all this. I don’t even know if I have a fatty liver. I’m 5 foot 8 258 lbs, bmi 39 and a size 16 -
Surgery 2/10. First 24 hours was pretty rough with the gas but lots of laps in the hospital helped. During the two week postop diet, I was struggling with fluids and protein because I was just so over it. I’m not stressing about it. I just do what I can. I’m now 16 days postop and it’s easier to get my fluids in but I’m still so sick of protein shakes. I found Oikos Greek yogurt with 15 grams of protein. The vanilla flavor is amazing…. Yum! I’m on puréed diet for the past three days, threw up twice just eating too fast because I was starving. But now I have adjusted to eating more slowly so I don’t throw up. The only issue I have is the bariatric vitamins. I’ve been taking the chewable ones and they are absolutely awful and they make me vomit. I’ve taken them on a full stomach too, and they still make me sick. I’m trying to find a good vitamin to take that doesn’t upset my stomach. I just ordered the Barimelts which I know are not recommended by my doctor, but they are known to be gentler on the stomach, so something is better than nothing. I have the calcium chews and those are fine. Does anyone have a good vitamin that they like it doesn’t make them sick? Also, I’m down 18 pounds and I’m fine with that as I am a lower BMI.

Thanks everyone! I really can't wait until pureed foods. I definitely know things would be easier. I have things planned already and I just can't wait. I didn't have problems with the protein shakes before surgery either, but they're just tasting a lot more sweeter now 😳 I'm gonna have a chocolate on tomorrow. Maybe I need a different flavor instead of caramel and creamy cinnamon. I could also make a protein smoothie too. Which that sounds really good. My mom made homemade macaroni soup a few days ago, it was great and we had left overs tonight and it was even better. Homemade soups are better. Glad to know that each day gets better! Do you guys know if applesauce is considered something allowed on the full liquid diet? I didn't see anything in my directions. -

If you know the plan and can't stick to it just a few months after taking the big big step to have surgery then I would seriously advocate finding a therapist who specialises in bariatric surgery patients. I say this only with support and sympathy - I do not do 'holier than thou' ever. So many people have travelled the same road. It is SO SO hard not to eat when our hunger comes back. What we need to ensure is that the prospect of eating healthy food is preferable to the option to eat crap. If you can re-frame your relationship with food now you still have plenty of time to make the most of your chance. I do wish you the very best of luck. -
Hey y'all! Glad to see some updates around here. It's been 4 months and some change, and I've lost 70 lbs since surgery! Almost 125 since my highest weight. I feel better than I have in years. I started off as a 5XL and now can wear 3XL and even some 2XL! Went from a 30 in jeans to 24 (which are loose on me, so I think I may be 22 or lower now - I still need to update wardrobe) I had a stall in mid-December and just recently had another that lasted 10 days where my weight only went up and down or stayed the same! Finally started trending downwards again a few days ago. My pouch tolerates everything I've given it. No problems there. I eat whatever I want at this point but still do 1 protein shake/day. I'm hovering around 800-1000 calories per day. Pros: I used to get horrible pains in my lower back and hips and now I have a ton of stamina and can actually walk around a grocery store to go shopping! Sex is a lot more fun! ☺️😆 I can feel my bones. Especially when I sleep on my side at night, my kneecaps actually touch each other (can also be a con lol) I can cross my legs! I can sit on the floor and not feel like I'm going to fall over backwards! It's fun to jiggle parts of my body 🤣 Physical hunger still gone and full cues still intact. I know to stop when the hiccups start. Food bills are so much cheaper!!! I'm content with a happy meal. No heartburn (yet)! Cons: My mood is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Hormones from fat loss make me up and down all the time. I never know what kind of day it's going to be when I wake up. I also have a mood disorder to begin with, so that doesn't help either. Loose skin everywhere!! If I'm too "active" it will make a clapping noise. Like it's cheering me on. 😂 I'm a bit self-conscious about the skin under my neck The rest of it I can deal with, lol. My boobs and butt are leaving. Mental hunger is rude! I have to carefully watch myself from grazing. Some days are harder than others. I think my food addiction has turned into a shopping one. I'm still lazy and don't really work out. I do a lot more than I used to though, so it balances out I think. 😅 Food isn't fun anymore. But that's also a good thing... I can say it has been way easier than I expected it to be though. I thought I'd be more upset about it. Here's some before/after pics! They're from last month, but I don't think I've lost much more 10 lbs since then anyway due to the stall I had. This one was right before the liquid diet and the after is the end of January, so about 75 lbs difference. This was on my way to my first appointment in early 2022 and then last month. I've lost 105 lbs between those 2. This is a fun graph of my weight loss since the beginning of the liquid diet. I weigh myself everyday using this app (Libra) so I can see the trends. Then I only record my actual weight every week in MyFitnessPal. It's worked well for me so far. My current goal is to hit 100 lbs lost before my 6-month surgiversary! 30 lbs to go!

The dietitian shared that I could mix my protein drink as a creamer for decaf coffee in the morning and mix to thin out my Greek yogurt. This helped me. I was okay with the shakes occasionally before having the surgery. Now I am tired of them. They do offer the unflavored protein powder to mix in soups. It'll be better once you move into the pureed stage. You're half way there! -

I am 13 days post op and I can tell you it does get easier! I didn't make my fluids or protein goals at all until about 4 days ago and I've been able to make both (barely!) If i concentrate on it. This is also with me going back to work last week as well so hang in there! -

I ❤️ home made soup so I stockpiled a bunch before my surgery in the freezer. All some variation of a roasted vegetable, bone broth, 1 can of coconut milk and seasoning. I’ve got carrot ginger, sweet potato, butternut, cauliflower, and white bean with artichoke and spinach. I love them all regularly, just blended them more and a little more watery consistency. Today is the first day I can have them and I’m really excited. I may not feel the same way after a month 🤣. A little harder to calculate the protein content. I plan to make a roasted red pepper, black bean, and celery bisque when I’m feeling a little better. -
I’m exactly 1 month Post Op! Regular water makes me nauseous, the thought of drinking a protein shake makes me nauseous. Sugar free popsicles are the only things the quench my thirst. Now those make me nauseous as well! I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday. I don’t know what to do!

I'm 5 days post op now and I also felt really weak and light headed. I think cause I slept in too long. I felt much better after taking some deep breaths. It's really hard to get all of my requirements in and I'm kind of worried about what would happen if I can't get it figured out. I need at least 64 ounces of fluids, 60 to 80 grams of protein and up to 1200 calories. Ahhh! I have bariatric fusion complete chewable vitamins and for bypass I need to get 4 or those in a day. I only got one today (I know if I got up earlier I'd have met that goal). Tomorrow is a new day and my son goes back to school so I'll be getting up earlier and hopefully I'll be able to get everything in. I'm gonna try to track things again. How does everyone get things in for the day? It seems hard. -

Surgery was 2/23, and I was feeling pretty good and getting my specialty water in, even 4 oz each day of home made bone broth. I somehow missed the clear protein options however and today I’ve been super weak and light headed. Managed 3 oz of yogurt and protein drink with 42 grams. Finally got in a shower and now I’m exhausted. It’s a beautiful day today and I was hoping to take a little walk, but I’m not going to get far at all! How is everyone else the first week post op? -

I am definitely missing my marks on protein, mostly because I just want cold, sugar-free sports drinks and my energy is just fine so far. I have been forcing myself to consume more protein drink. If I were actually getting what I was supposed to, I'd be less happy about the effort 😐 -

(surgery 2/22) I was indeed released on Thursday! I had the bright idea to go on a long walk outside on Friday which I realized was probably a mistake since I hadn't had much for calories and I also only made my water and protein minimums that day. I didn't measure the distance beforehand and it was nearly 1.5 miles and around 9 degrees outside. Saturday I met goals and working on that for today as well. I was ordered oxygen for sleeping (they said 75% get sent home with oxygen orders, but I am in Colorado so that may be a factor) and I'm also giving myself Lovenox/Enoxaparin shots twice a day. Today I'm able to get out of bed a lot easier, so I think my incisions and everything are healing well. My surgeon used anesthetic and Dermabond on them and I have had no issues with fluid escaping or anything. I'm back to pre-op weight on my home scale, the hospital weighed me much closer to my first appointment weight but I was fully clothed with shoes on. -

I think the best way to resist temptation is to avoid it as much as possible. Don't buy junk food. If it's not around, you can't eat it. I take it a step further and use online grocery shopping (pickup or delivery) so I don't even have to go into the store. I shop mostly from my favorites lists that only contain healthy foods. On the rare occasion I go into the store, all of the temptations are in my face and I find myself tempted to buy something I shouldn't, "just this once." The more you have to face temptation, the more mental effort it takes to resist and the more likely you are to give in. Another thing that helps is having healthy, delicious foods readily available. If you like to cook, go on Pinterest to find healthy recipes that you look forward to trying. I live alone, so I always have a lot of leftovers that I freeze in individual portions, so I have a variety of healthy meals that I can easily grab from the freezer and heat in the microwave with some cauliflower rice. I meal prep a bunch of salads every week and have a variety of Skinny Girl salad dressings on hand. I eat a lot of sugar-free Jello with sugar-free meringue (made with pasteurized egg whites so it's safe to eat raw), and sugar-free meringue cookies. I also eat protein bars (Built Bars are my favorite) as a healthy-ish treat. This is so important, and it's really easy to take for granted once you lose the weight -- to forget how hard it is to live with morbid obesity. I recently saw a guy at work who was so big that he looked like he was struggling to walk out to the parking lot, and my heart broke for him because I remember being that big. I don't really think about it much anymore, but there was a time that I dreaded walking to and from the parking lot or up a couple of flights of stairs because it was so hard when I was carrying an extra 200 pounds. And that's not to mention all the social stigma on being fat, which I never want to experience again. -
'm so excited (nervous, anxious and scared too) that my ESG is in 15 days!! 🙌 I have put having WLS for soOOOo long, it's very surreal that it is so close. I have been stockpiling protein shakes, powders, soups and have all my supplements and medications in order. I feel as though I am ready for this but am still unsure how I will be able to abide by the strict protein intake for the 45 days as it (and I"m sure all protocols require everyone) me to drink 8oz of protein every other hour from 8am to 9pm and water on the off hour. I work in an office setting that doesn't allow me to have food liquids at my desk (secure location) and have to excuse myself to the break room for food. Breaks are not every hour and I can't imagine I can guzzle the protein drinks in less than 5 mins. I will have to be creative?! It's going to be a LONG 45 days! I'm thinking of using the protein waters, has anyone every had any of them? Any suggestions on any of them? Thanks! 😀

I am lucky, I cant do fatty greasy foods. So a lot of take away food is off my menu. I have never been a cake or biscuit eater but I can eat chocolate, pop corn and baked snacks. I buy them small single serve packs that limit my intake. I ration myself to only have one in the evening if I have managed to eat all my protein -
I can only have one small meal per day of 3oz protein, unlimited non starchy veggies, 1/4cup starch. The rest of the day is liquids and non-starchy veggies. Day 10, all liquid.

Hey BigAndTall, glad to hear that your surgery went well. Mine was also 22nd and I came home from hospital yesterday. I’m doing ok with water but the food/vitamins/meds regime is a bit challenging. It seems like I need to be constantly sipping on protein shakes or water. And fit the liquid meds in too. I’ve written a schedule for it so hopefully that will help. I have some pain around my incisions but it’s getting easier every day
