  1. Hi, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Tatiana or Ty. I got a Lapband in June 2008 and lost 50lbs. But I could never get in that green zone and my band was always too loose or too tight and I got sick A LOT. I ended up gaining all my weight back plus some and started getting chest pain and nose bleeds from vomiting so much. After 4 years of struggling with the band I finally made that phone call that I hope will change my life forever. Right now I am 3 days away from getting my Lapband revised to a RNY gastric bypass and I'm not gonna lie, I'm terrified. I want to do this, I need to, but the risks scare me and permanency of it scares me as well. I'm taking something that's working perfectly fine and choosing rip it up. I just want to know that I'll still be me after surgery. That I won't feel like I've had my insides rearranged. I don't know, I just want to know if I'll feel "normal" after surgery. That's the scary part for me. All the changes in diet and excercise and vitamins I can handle, I feel like I've been there before but I've just got to amp it up this time around. From what I understand the pain will be worse this time, and recovery will be longer, but the success rate is greater. Anyway, just wanted to express my thoughts as I sit here trying to mentally and physically prepare myself for Tuesday. Thanks.

    And so it begins....

Good luck. I'm sure you will be pleased with the sleeve, every revision story I've read say they like it much more than the band.

    Sleeve to bypass

I revised only three weeks ago due to severe acid reflux. Unfortunately it has not helped my reflux at all. I'm in pain 24/7. Literally. However this is NOT the norm apparently and I would encourage anyone to revise who has GERD.
  4. Anyone have revision from sleeve to bypass? I would like to hear your story? Ups, downs, how it is working for you?....any information you are willing to share with me... Thank you

    Pooped from Pooping

Tomorrow is 5 weeks post op for me for revision from mgb to rny. The first 2 weeks I was constipated, the next 2 weeks I had severe diarrhea and then BAM constipated for the last week! I have no idea what's going on and how it can go from one extreme to the next in a matter of one day.

    Who's had their Port Replaced?

I just had my port replaced a couple of weeks ago, they discovered that there was a hole in the tubing near the port. My insurance did cover the revision. I haven't gotten a fill since the revision, sure hope it works this time.

    Who's had their Port Replaced?

I have to have mine replaced and I was told it would be $8000. I only paid $9500 for the whole thing. I have decided to have a revision to DS and give up the band.

    Poll: The lapband

Being that I'm on the last legs of my lap band I have to say the lap band was not the right choice for me. I chose the wrong procedure unfortunately but choose not to revise to any other WLS and am having it removed tomorrow afternoon  Best of luck and health to the rest of you and I hope you don't have the same problems I have had, Nancy.
  10. Hey there folks. My name is Will. I'm 35 years old and In 2015 I had the gastric bypass sleeve. I have not lost the weight with that that I wanted to or hoped to. I have contacted a surgeon in my TN area and am going to the pre surgery seminar tomorrow night. Then I have my appt with the head nurse and surgeon on Friday. I'm hoping that he will say I can qualify for the bypass. I'm not happy with my current situation. I'm having stomache pain and discomfort and a lot of diarrhea. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated Thanks Will
  11. Hi!!! I was revised from band to bypass on May 21, 2014. Omg I love my bypass! What a difference!!! I don't feel like I'm stuck all the time, I don't throw up, I don't have to find a barroom before I eat to make sure I can run there in time.. It's awesome! I was successful with my band lost all my weight 120 pounds in 9 months, kept it off for 5 years then bam one day I couldn't keep anything down even with an unfill. So revision was my option.. My band had eroded. I can tell you the revision surgery was easier for me than the band surgery. I knew I had to get up and walk ASAP after surgery because the gas pain killed me last time so I did!! I walked within 2 hours of surgery and kept walking. I was able to go home day after surgery and my recovery was amazing. Felt awesome! I even asked my doc if he really took out the band and did the rny I felt so good!! Feel free to pm me with any questions!!! And good luck!!

  14. Hey, Vines. Just wanted to let you know. You know I'm trying to start getting second opinions on what I should do next. I'm kind of bummed to be starting over but I might as well try and pick up the pieces and see what's what. So I (finally) got to meet with another WLS surgeon today - he's a RnY specialist but is now doing Lap Bands. (As if enough surgeons haven't gotten a chance to practice on me :rolleyes ) Anyway I presented my full medical file (that clipboard soap opera that is also known as "As The LapBand Turns" ) and he didn't even run out of the room screaming, LOL. He thinks my original LapBand surgeon is one of the best around and concedes that my former surgeon knows WAYYYYY more about LapBands than he does. In fact, tomorrow he is observing and later being proctored by my original LapBand surgeon. (Oh boy isn't life ironic?) But he also agreed with me that my ex-surgeon is one of the most conservative around, and as he's been doing bands much longer than most U.S. doctors, he admittedly has some of least successful LapBand stats. It's an enigma. Anyway, we're trying to figure out what I can do to continue my weight loss. He also conceded that with my current BMI - a revision surgery will be probably not an option unless there is something wrong with my band. (And believe me, there is probably something wrong with my band. It's like a household appliance that has just gone out of warranty, LOL, and five years seems to be the "let's act up" point for LapBands.) Even then, his hospital requires 35 BMI for any surgery. But he fully understands why after 5 years of ridiculously slow weight loss, I'm trying to decide what I need to do to finally have some success. But he said he'd hate for me to have another surgical procedure just to lose 20 lbs. {I forgot to tell him that if I were to have to be revised to the dreaded RnY, I sure as H-LL plan to lose more than those unambitious <18 lbs that my Lap Band surgeon set as a goal weight for me.} Once he has some data in his hands he'll see what he thinks will be next - whether I have a working band that can be coaxed into being filled a bit, or whether the band is having issues, and I need to consider being revised to another form of WLS. Anyway, he thinks he's willing to explore options with me but first he wants me to have an Upper G.I., an analysis and a full nutritional workup with (drum roll) a basal metabolic test and probably a body/fat analysis. There, Vines. Are you happy? :clap2: I'm going to go let a licensed professional officially announce what we all know: My metabolism is remedial, if not downright dormant. As soon as they schedule me and I have my results - I promise to let you know. I have no idea what's next for me, but I sure don't want to spend the rest of 2006 at a BMI that defines me as 'obese.' Happy Band Journeys to all...

    Ready to Go

Had appointment with Surgery Center and final appointment with Doctor this am. Revision surgery is at 7 am Tuesday and I was told it would last about 45 minutes to an hour. I am more excited than nervous.
  16. Hello, My name is Miranda and I'm from NYC. Going to see my surgeon this upcoming Wednesday(at NYU) to discuss getting the VSG done. I had the lap band before but had too many complications so it was removed. Has anyone else had revisional surgery? How long is the hospital stay ? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  17. As a former LapBand person, I truly know the pain involved with getting food stuck! BE sure you get an upper GI. After I had a severe stuck episode and removal of my fluid I had a FULL slip. My entire stomach slipped through the band and it clamped off the bottom of my stomach. There is no words to describe the pain that was. I had the band emergency removed then the gastric sleeve a little over a year later. And I gained the 50lbs I lost back. From experience I can tell you that the sleeve is a more involved recovery but a MUCH NORMAL way of living. I just eat less. Look into the revision and fight it if necessary. Age should have nothing to do with it. Good Luck

    Scar tissue and the sleeve

Hi love! What part of CA do you live in?? I live in SoCal/OC. I'm having some of the same symptoms & my doctor aborted my surgery because he said mine was the worse he's ever seen! I HAVE to have this surgery because I have scoliosis and have to have a revision surgery on my neck & back because my entire left side is now in pain....the pain is shooing down my left side of my body & causing my sciatic nerves to hurt me as well...the doctor is afraid if I don't have the surgery, I'll get bigger & bigger & will not be able to walk ... the problem??? NOone will touch me with my condition!!! ANY advice?? I'm DESPERATE!!! 😩😩
  19. Hiya Fatty. No need to feel ashamed, we're all family here and in some stage of the process. I had the band done in may of 2011 and the most i lost was 40lbs after barely any fills. I developed a crazy amount of scar tissue on top of my port so the nurse always had issues getting through. It was discouraging so just stopped going. Dec of 2014 i started the process of a revision to bypass. I had to do a 6 month diet and other hoops, after it was all done it was discovered i have moderate sleep apnea. Smh i finally on 9/3 have all my approvals in and I'm now awaiting the nurse to gather it to call me in for my consent for surgery. Smdh this final hurdle is taking soooo long! I'm trying to stay calm but. ... smh sooo try not to put an expected time frame on when this will be done. Things happen sometime. Was expecting surgery in June, here it is September and still waiting. Keep your head up. It'll happen. ????☺
  20. Thanks so much. It is always good to hear from those that have had the band to sleeve revision. Good luck in your continued journey!!!
  21. I had my gastric bypass in 2000, I was one of the first to do it in the UK. 21 years later and some non weight related illness I have regained half of the weight I lost. I was 300lbs and went to 140lbs. It's only in the past 5 years the regain has really started. I am looking at having a minimizer ring fitted. Has anyone here done this? What was the outcome. Is it like day one after your original surgery? Any information would be greatfully received. Thanks x

    Video of sleeve proceedure

That's a great video! For us Band to Sleeve Revisions, here is one that is also narrated and describes the procedure as it goes along!
  23. I had a revision from band to sleeve done a month ago and I wish that I had the sleeve to begin with. I had so many issues with the band and I am just glad to finally have it out. I had the band removed and the sleeve done all in 1 surgery, no regrets....I love my sleeve!

    Research study

Somebody posted this link in a thread and i couldn't find it again - so thank you! I think it is a great article and should be read by people considering WLS. I am 2.5 years out from a revision band to sleeve and that article made so much sense based on my experience. Band (when filled) - I had a very small food capacity but I couldn't tolerate the reflux. I also honestly couldn't tolerate the very small capacity either and it drove me toward sliders (my responsibility not blaming the band). When I revised to the sleeve I was surprised that eating was so much easier say 3 months out then it ever was with the band. I didn't think about it that I could eat more quantity /capacity then I had with a filled band but it is true. I think for me that is one reason I have been so much more compliant with the sleeve, I can eat salads and veggies and dense Protein without feeling discomfort or pain. I get an "absence of hunger" sensation after pretty small quantities, but still more than I could consume with a filled band. I had the band for 10 years, most of that time with "no fill" due to my issues with it. I think that might explain why some people do really well with the band and struggle with the sleeve after revision because you can eat more. Anyway, there is alot more to the content of this article, but that particular piece fit my experience.
  25. So I had my band unfilled in August because I was getting so sick. They took as much as they could out. I've had very little issues for the last 2 months. This week I started having resistance with eating or drinking again and the last 2 days I've gotten sick after trying to eat. Literally eating 2 small bites and it comes up. And now liquid is getting stuck with an unfilled band. Anyone else have this problem? I'm self pay and already know what revision surgery costs :/
