    What a great NSV Bama!

    Nsv!

What a great feeling! Congrats on your NSV and OMG - look at how much weight you've lost. Thanks for sharing!

    Nsv!

Hadn't realized, really how thinish I've gotten. My mother gifted me a business suit in a size 12. Now this has no stretch so I was like that's not going to fit. She made me try it on, reluctantly I did and it fit like a glove. At my heaviest I was busting out if a size 24 so I'm super stoked.. I think I'm at a good spot after a failed lapband and then being converted to a sleeve a year ago I can finally say I'm at goal.

Before I had Lapband surgery 09/19/13, I was so focused on losing weight and forgot about losing inches. I did not measure myself until 10/13/13. Well, on 11/24/13, I re-measured and have lost a total of 19 inches. Oh what a feeling Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  5. The scale has never been my friend and weight loss surgery hasn’t helped our relationship. When I diet, I tend to weigh every day, perhaps multiple times during the day (a mid-afternoon weighing will have to take into account being fully clothed and if I ate recently or if I just drank a lot of liquid). When I am not dieting, the scale sits there, neglected and collecting dust. Since we arrived back home on Friday (five short days ago), I have probably weighed 12-13 times. Yes, that’s averaging over two times per day. This is not a healthy behavior. Here’s what happened yesterday…I weighed in the morning and the scale said I “only” lost a half of a pound since the morning before. I think a normal person would log that and move on. Not, me and probably not many obese or formally obese people. I thought about that measly little number and wondered what was wrong with me the entire day. Why didn’t I lose more? I calculated my total weight loss. I calculated my loss since surgery. I calculated my loss since Friday. Over and over and over again all day long. Then I had a mid-afternoon weigh-in, subtracted for clothing and it was about the same and still feeling disgruntled. Why do I do this to myself? It makes no sense. I get hung up on the numbers that the stupid scale says – I relinquish all power to that stupid scale. When you look at it in reality, there is no possible way I am not losing weight. I am only taking in about 500 calories per day. My body right now (without exercising) burns at least 2000 calories daily. There are about 3500 calories in a pound. That calorie deficit adds up quickly, especially once you add in a walk here or there or start incorporating exercise. So why do I care so much about what that evil, bathroom-dwelling scale says? How can it have so much power over me? We need to Celebrate our non-scale victories (NSV’s). These are those little wins you get that are not necessarily related to the scale. Just in the past couple of days, I have had some. I tightened my FitBit Flex up by one notch (this means my wrist is smaller today than it was a few weeks ago when I got it). I tried on my winter coat last night and it fit. A few weeks ago, it was uncomfortable to zip up with just a t-shirt on, so I only used the Velcro fasteners to give me more room. Last night, not only could I zip it, I could have probably worn a sweatshirt and it would have still been comfortable. So, what am I going to do about it? I’m going to have my husband hide the scale. It will come out once per week on Thursday’s for a weekly weigh-in, then back in hiding it goes. As for my brain…I’m not sure the hubs can hide that. Do you do this to? How often do you weigh?
  6. Hi all: You'll find this sorta cute I think. So.....I saw my sports medicine/pain management doctor today. First time I've seen him since about two weeks prior to the hip replacements so....about 9 weeks ago. I was in the waiting room and he called me into his office so I got up and started walking towards him. He then started walking to me and right in the middle of the waiting room, bent down and whispered in my ear....'I can't say this out loud with a room full of patients, but you look f***ing fantastic'. I've never had a doctor use that particular word before but he and I are about the same age, and I've been seeing him for a year and a half so I know he only meant well and was giving me a huge compliment. I must admit, it's kinda nice to have an honest reaction from him rather than a 'medical assessment' so to speak. It was unexpected but it really felt good to hear it.

    Before& After

My biggest nsv and one of the reasons that Pushed me over the edge with getting the surgery done was over the summer I was able to ride the rides at cedar point without even worrying if I would fit. Last year I could not buckle some of them and had to get off of one cause it wouldn't buckle. I am also able to walk in the store and buy clothes off the rack! I don't even have to try them on I know they'll fit! I am in a size 14 bottoms that are starting to get a little loose and medium top I did buy a 12 dress that fits perfectly. I'm able to run with my kids and it doesn't hurt me. I didn't have any comorbidities yet so surgery was really preventative for me. My knees and back feel so much better though.

You look terrific!! bet you feel amazing, too. What nsv's have you had? energy increase? self esteem? Comorbidities?
  9. Hi all... It has been a while since I have been on here. I can honestly say life is sooooo different!!! I can't imagine ever going back to where I was before. I know you all understand what I am talking about! Well My biggest NSV to date is my new man! As most of you know, I mentioned in older blogs that one thing my weight hindered was my love life. I was single for over 5 years during my biggest years. I have recently found the love of my life! He is amazing and he is everything I prayed to find in a man. He thinks I am beautiful even though i am no where near my goal weight. He is so good to me and has added 2 wonderful children to my life. I don't remember a time when I was this happy. I thank God every day for the changes in my life over the last year. I am down 110lb since surgery. I am at 182lb and a size 12 at the moment. I have not been very good about sticking to my high protein diet but I have been holding steady for about 2 months now. Its nice to know I can eat normal and maintain a steady weight. I do want to get down another 20+ pounds but I have time. I hope you are all doing as wonderful! That your prayers are coming to pass and that your joy is as great as mine.... Love you all... Amber

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Another NSV! I brought a jogging suit from walmart in a large and I was scared to buy the top but I got it in a large and it fit! I'm so excited! I have to take pics to see the weightloss! Is that strange? To me I'm still a 20/22.

    Nsv!

I had surgery on 03/29/13, so I'm almost 8 months post op. I started out at 256 lbs. and my goal weight is 150 lbs. Today, I weighed in at 190 lbs. Because of my height and the fact that I have huge boobs (LOL), I really just wanted to fit into Size 12 jeans. I figured that would make me look well proportioned. I wanted to wait to buy clothes, but everything is falling off of me. I caved in today and went to buy a new pair of jeans. I bought a Size 14, but was too embarrassed to try them on in the store. I just tried them on...they're too big!!! Yippee!!!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Yesterday I was able to decorate the Christmas tree and mantle without resting or directing my husband on where to put things from the sofa. I've lost 50 lbs since October 1st and the big NSV is that my lower back pain is just about gone. I never would have been able to be on my feet so much. My poor husband has had to decorate under my direction for about the past 3 years. I am so happy!
  13. SOO My brother in law's family, mother in law's family, and my family rented a cabin at a state park this weekend. We are getting ready to head out soon and Im excited. The husband and I are going to go on a hike together. It will be the first time I've been hiking since a kid! We have a cooker full of veggies and crock pots full of beef stew. I also decided to do some reflecting this weekend and I think to do this I need to unplug from my smartphone. SOO..I'll be unplugging from everything this weekend. I have my swim suit to play in the pool with the kids, hiking gear for a nice long trek, a brand new intriguing book, and board games out the wazoo to play with the family. Have a great weekend everyone!!

    July sleevers please check in..

Surgery date- July 29, 2013 Surgery Weight - 253 Current weight- 213 I have rheumatoid arthritis that has been flaring on and off for months so I have not been consistent w exercise, but I am still happy with the progress. I am only 5'1 so I have noticed the inches loss quicker than lbs. And I have at least 4 stalls of over a week or 2 each since August. The people's comments in this forum has helped me so much when I got frustrated about the scale not moving and celebrating NSV's.
  16. That's an awesome and funny NSV :) That made me think if someone found our phones and looked through our numbers to get in touch with us, how much it would say about who we are as individuals

      :)

    Nsvs

Yesterday, some guy "got distracted," ran a red light, and plowed into my van. He impacted me so hard that he pushed my left-turning vehicle back to the right and several feet towards oncoming traffic. I had my four youngest children with me, so the whole experience was extraordinarily terrifying. We spent the afternoon and evening at the ER getting all checked out. I'm several days into my pre-op diet (was set to start Tuesday, but started Sunday instead), and when we left the ER, my husband commented that the day was so stressful, he wanted to stop and eat something awful. Two NSVs happened: (1) The Hubs respected the pre-op diet and all the work I've done so far, and he didn't pressure me to "cheat," and (2) I DIDN'T BLOW MY PRE-OP DIET!! This is HUGE for me, because I'm the queen of starting over tomorrow, and typically after a super-hard, intensely stressful day like yesterday, I would have noshed on all kinds of high-fat, high-sugar soothers. Instead, I came home from the ER and had a Protein shake for muscle recovery and drank lots of Water to begin moving out lactic acid. Feel better today muscle-wise than the ER doc told me I would. Taking this thing one day at a time, and anxiously awaiting my sleeve December 3. Celebrating the fact that I didn't blow it!!

    NSV shout outs

I think it has been close to 2 years since I posted an NSV. The jeans that started out as comfortably snug and progressed to sausage casing and finally unwearable are now comfortably snug again and the bra that started out as overflowing, became empty requiring "chicken cutlets" and then verged on overflowing again, now fits reasonably. yay for small victories.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My nsv is that I'm able to cross my legs comfortably. I feel like such a lady! :-)
  22. So we decided to walk in a mall tonight. We head to the food court to get dinner and I have to go to the bathroom. My husband is going to wait for me. I come back in four minutes and he says, "I'm really sorry, but I ate without you" and shows me four toothpicks of free food they gave him as he strolled by the various stalls there. Yup, four pieces of chicken and the man is too full for dinner. I know people thought we were crazy when we both burst out laughing. We went to get me some chicken from a thai place there and it took a while for them to understand we didn't want rice or noodles just chicken. Then we made them put half the chicken back because we would never have finished it. And then we didn't even want a drink! We were no fun, I tell you and dinner was $4.24. For both of us. You can relate, can't you? hasn't life changed?
  23. I'm going to start a new NSV thread since I can't find the one I used to post on. Anyhoo...! I had a beautiful coat in the closet for at least 15 years or more. I just tried it on, it fits!! I'm so excited that I might have to christen it with my hubs!
  24. November has been NSV month for me. I have been to two college football games and an NFL game with even thinking about being a tight squeeze into the seat. Tomorrow I fly out to TN and am not stressed on where I will be sitting on the flight and when I get to TN I am going to be in a tree stand that I am not too heavy for.
