  1. I had thought about it for years and even asked a doctor about it once but he poo pooed the idea and referred me to yet another dietitian. I lost the usual 5 stone after two years of hard work. This weight came back slowly, so I did weight watchers, 5 stone off again, slimming world, ditto. Always struggling to keep it off and always on a diet. Stopped smoking, had a bad accident and gained 5 stone. People began to stare at me. Getting very embarrassed Then Covid, gained more. Became Diabetic. Had frightening chest pounding when exerting myself a tiny bit. I became aware that the UK government had me in isolation because I was obese not because I had COPD. I did this to myself and my husband who had to isolate with me. When we were finally let out I was too embarrassed to go out and found it Impossible to get around a supermarket. No clothes fit me anymore. It would have taken me years to gain enough mobility to make any difference and help me to diet again. Rang my nearest private clinic and tada! Job done. Weight gain

I had my lapband removed in March I have been steadily gaining weight and my stomach is extended I am seeing a GI dr to get me to have a stool movement and they put me on meds for it. I’m still eating really healthy and working out but so depressed on the weight gain I had my Lapband in for 13 years had it removed because of slippage and other issues my legs is gotten so big from water retention how long does it take for me to get back to normal. I just had a lot of blood work done to see what is going on and the dr said my numbers are actually fantastic and I’m in perfect health but he is even confused on the weight gain
  3. In my early 30s (~220s lbs.), I knew I was in big trouble. Serious comorbities. Monthly ER visits. I was a thin child, a thin teenager but after a horrible thing happened to me, like many others, my weight became my shield, until it didn't... No diets, pills, injections worked. I didn't have the funds nor insurance then but as soon as it was available, I went for it. That's why I am so thankful for the opportunity to have had it. So many people could only dream of it as it is expensive, especially back then. I was in my 40s with lots of comorbities, a little over 300 lbs when I finally got the chance. I'm in my 60s now. I am healthier now than in my 20s. I have had a revision due to a slipped band, then another due to gerd but I never complained about it, as I am so gratefulful I had the chance. Because if it, I haven't been anywhere near 300 lbs nor have I had serious comorbities for 15 years.
  4. Years ago, I considered it but decided on a last ditch effort to try medical weight loss instead. I also exercised and got down to about 185 (I’m 5’3”). I was able to wear clothes that I felt were “me” after years of wearing crap. I swore to myself I would NEVER get back over 200 and for 7 years I worked to keep it that way. When Covid hit, everything changed. I lost my job and was the sole provider for my family. The scale moved up, finally breaking 200 last year. At that point my clothes started getting tighter and I fell into a deep depression… the worst I’ve ever been… even having thoughts about not being here anymore. I felt like a total failure. For me it was very much like life or death. After one very difficult night locked in my own mind, I decided to have the surgery. It was January 25th. I would do it no matter what it would take, financial or otherwise, and thank goodness insurance covered 80%. I’ll never forget the day I made that decision. It was the first time I felt hope in a really long time.
  5. I was approached by someone recently asking why I would have surgery with injectables now available and that surgeries were on the way out. 😮 I told her I doubt they are "on their way out." I explained that I had medical issues that needed to be addressed and the surgery would resolve them. Also the shot is expensive and not covered by most insurance companies. Any weight lost using it is regained as soon as you stop using it. So on it for life and around $1200 a month. It was when I heard it called Metabolic surgery and learned that it would heal my prediabetes, my high blood pressure, my insulin resistance, my sleep apnea, reset my metabolism and weight setpoint, stop my progression of stage 3 kidney disease, halt acid reflux, gout, inflammation and water retention, joint and back pain, incontinence and lastly...ability to fit into a pair of jeans
  6. Little bit about me... Had the lap band in spring 2007 after hitting a high of 450... dropped down in to the 320s... stalled, had some different life issues cause some emotional issue... needless to say I bounced back up nearer to the 380s at one point. Settled in around 360 and decided to go get a revision to DS... which was Friday. Weight at surgery was right about 360. Stepped on my home scale this morning... 338.4. It's a lot in a short time. I feel like a million bucks, though. I've taken minimal painkillers other than tylenol in the last couple days. Woke up with some pain in the center of my back and couldn't really get comfortable after that... so I took one of my happy pills this morning at 8. I've done a good job staying hydrated, slightly under protein target but working on it. I've been able to move around the house (up and down stairs as well) without much issue. All the internal plumbing is working. Follow-up is tomorrow morning with the surgeon. Should I be waiting for the other shoe to drop? Am I doing *too* well to expect this will continue? Is reality going to kick my butt in the next few days?
  7. I've known several people who've had adjustments or revisions, and the weight always come off much slower the second time around. It'll come off again if you really work at it, but yea - it's usually a long, slow process...

    I’m back after 13 years!

I was banded Nov.2011. I was 375 got lowest 170...Started over on my journey having gotten too relaxed and bad eating habits. Acid reflux has been my enemy few times having fluid removed and by the time life hit with deaths in family .Up and down weight. 2023 came and had to have gallbladder removed and diagnosed with diverticulitis. Started over with lap-band and eating extremely different. Back on liquid and protein..Starting over is scary 260 last week..this week 256...uugh!! I know one day at a time ...learn from mistakes also and I got to do better...
  9. Wow ! Congrats ! I’m almost 2 weeks post surgery and still bloating and haven’t lost any weight since surgery. Hopefully I’ll finally drop some in the next 2 weeks
  10. Hi here is my story I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in 2014 with hiatal hernia repair with the intent to loose weight to boost my fertility as we had been trying to have a baby for almost 2 years. I found myself pregnant 3 months later. It was not my intention to get pregnant so soon after surgery but we were thrilled. I did end up loosing about 120 pounds over all. Here I am 9 years and 3 babies later However I got back up to 286lbs. I am 36 years old and we decided we are done having biological children so I wanted to try and start my weight loss journey again. Reached back out to my bariatric office, and they scheduled an EGD to check out my sleeve and investigate as I do have heart burn. They found I had some gastritis and a hiatal hernia. In addition the top part of my sleeve had expanded above my diaphragm. So on April 27, 2023 I had another hiatal hernia repair and partial gastrectomy. He said that had more efficient ways on fixing my hernia than they did 9 years ago and that the partial gastrectomy would be kind of tightening up my sleeve at the top that expanded. I am at 270lbs today so it is nice to see the scale go down but I find myself frustrated that the weight is definitely not coming off like it did the first time around. I know it takes time and that I am doing well but the scale just will not move from 269-272lbs over a week and I hate it and just wanted to vent. I'm currently doing puree and I'm trying to make sure I get in all of my water and protein. I am not overeating for sure. I don't feel hungry at all and I have to remind myself to eat. Well that's the gist of my story and I just wanted to put it out there and see if anyone can relate and maybe we can help encourage each other, thanks for reading.
  11. Just got rescheduled from May 22 to June 7th! Not very happy but I guess it gives an opportunity to lose more weight! Hope everyone’s surgery goes smoothly! I’m getting Gastric Bypass with Hiatal Hernia surgery.

    May 2023 surgeries

Surgeons office called me AGAIN to change my surgery to June 7th. Not happy since I’ve been strict dieting, but at least I’ll lose more weight by surgery. Good luck to all of those getting surgery this month!!!

I know there's a clause in my bariatric workbook that states my surgery will be cancelled if I regain weight. I wasn't sure if that meant from first initial weigh in or last appointment. Either way it was enough of a deterrent for me.

    Thoughts from the Bariatric Community?!?

As a business I would try to be more open to all people who would like a coach. I might have wanted a trainer but never could have afforded one. My observation in the US is that the poor are generally obese, and the wealthy are generally at a healthy weight. I know it’s not always true, just my observation.

Looking for women 46 who had the sleeve

I'm 40. I am 20 months PO (as of today!) and have lost 150 pounds off of a very small 4'10" frame. I have some loose skin on my neck and stomach and under my arms. The only part that is really noticeable is on my stomach, but since it's under my clothes it's not a big deal to me. It has tightened up considerably since my weight loss has slowed, and I feel like it's going to continue to shrink. It's minimal enough that I don't feel like I need or want to have skin removal surgery.

    Thoughts from the Bariatric Community?!?

I think this is incredibly useful--I would love to have had someone who's "been there" to talk to. I often find I am having to educate non-bariatric medical professionals about the issues I have (including therapists). Especially when it comes to mental health providers, it's important that they understand that some of the things we deal with are "normal" or "expected" and aren't, for instance, a symptom of an eating disorder. You also get to a point where sharing your wins or revealing your struggles is hard to explain to your well-meaning family and friends. If they struggle with their weight, your wins can feel like bragging, and they often can't understand how difficult, truly, it can be to have your entire body change that quickly, and you get met with "but you're skinny now! What's the problem?"...having a life coach who has been through the process would make you feel a lot less normal and a lot less alone! I feel like I see stories quite often from people who are unhappy with the advice or attitude of their dietitian and my opinion is that many of the dietitians people are having issues with don't understand our situation fully. Many of them have never struggled with their weight (and being a life-long healthy eater would certainly entice someone to enter that field, so it's understandable). It would be nice to be able to speak to someone who knows where the landmines for our unique metabolism and capacities are. Especially for those of us who haven't had the greatest examples of what a healthy relationship with food looks like, we need direction and support, not judgement, and you are in a unique position to provide just that. I think most people would welcome being able to meet online. I would have really wanted early in my journey someone I could check in with once a month, etc, about what I'm experiencing.
  17. Hello everyone! I thought I should share my story. I am 42 years old. I Was never really overweight when I was younger but in my early 30s weight started to creep on. To the point that I went from 125 lbs at 31 up to my highest of 245 lbs at 39 years old in 2020. When I got to that point I started trying everything to lose weight. But to no avail. Nothing seemed to work. In April 2022 I went to a seminar to learn about different weight loss surgeries. I then decided to do it. My first appointment with my surgeon I decided that the gastric sleeve would be best for me. My surgery date was 11/30/22. I had gotten down to 217 from 245 by then. Now six months later i am officially 100 total lbs lost! 72 since surgery. I am 145 today which puts me in a normal bmi range. I only need to lose 15 more to get to my goal! I am no longer diabetic, my A1C was 7.1 in October. Got it tested last week it is now 4.9! I no longer have high blood pressure and I feel great! If anyone reading this is considering surgery, don’t be scared to get it. It was the best decision I have ever made! Thank you for reading this! ❤️
  18. Hello everybody, I am just wanting to share my progress hopefully it can inspire someone who is considering surgery! My first doctors appointment was June 6 2022 I weighed in at 245 lbs. (I am 5’4). Got on a diet before surgery and was down to 217 on surgery day November 30 2022. Now almost six months later I weigh 145!I’ve lost 100 lbs total, 72 since my surgery. My BMI is officially in the normal range. I am 15 lbs away from my goal weight of 130. I feel great! If anyone wants me to share before and after pics I would be happy to! Thanks for taking the time to read about my journey!
  19. I did not have a stall at 3 weeks and honestly have not had one yet and I'm a few days away from 6 months. My weight loss has been slower compared to my group (the people I had surgery with on the same day, from same surgeon), but it has been a steady 8-10lbs per month and I'm good with that. I do have to say I travel about once a month and during those times I make the best out of the food choices (sometimes willingly don't lol), so my slower weight loss can be attributed to it too. Stalls are normal and part of the process, so I understand that one will hit eventually.

    Food funerals

You have been so successful in the preop, congratulations! I did not have a food funeral, I did eat out once due to a birthday but I only ate 1/3 of the meal. I do feel sometimes if you taste something you have not had in a while, you may get cravings so I just try to avoid the trigger food. You have been doing it for 6 months now, and although I think you may have missed some of the food, it was not strong enough to deter you of your goal. I would keep doing what you are doing and hit your personal goal. Also note that because of the amount of weight you have lost prior to the surgery, your first few weeks may be slower while you are recovering, so you would have a head start on your weight loss journey.
  21. Thank you for your answer. I gave my stats just a few seconds ago. Congrats on your weight loss! That's amazing. I guess most of the time I feel I am doing something wrong. I read others comments on how they cna only take a few bites and then their done. Or they can't eat and only want to drink. i don't have any problems eating or drinking. I can eat about 4-6 oz depending on what it is with no hurt or major fullness. I just fear I am not restricted enough to lose faster. BUT i know with time all will be well.
  22. Thank you for your answer! Starting weight was 271. Surgery weight was 250. Now I am 229.4

    S L O W Weight-loss 2 Months Out

I agree with everything Arabesque said. I don't know your starting weight, but generally speaking, the lower it is, the slower the weight loss is (usually, anyway). I was a slow loser rom the beginning and lost 100% of my excess weight (over 200 lbs) (I've had some regain since then, but within the 10-20 lb regain range that most of us experience after hitting our lowest weight). If you stick to your program, the weight will come off, whether fast or slow.

    Food funerals

You're right that you will be able to indulge in the future, if you want to. It's good you realize that and you have an important goal as well, so it's keeping you from going off track. I think you are already doing a great job on balancing what is important to you, judging by your post. At times I feel like just bingeing for a day but I don't. I know it'll just make me feel worse in the end, and potentially lead me on a path to gain weight again. It's just too important for me at this juncture not to fall back on old habits. I never want to be fat again so I have to remind myself how miserable I was when I was heavy. You are doing great, pre-op is the most difficult part of it all. The second most difficult part is when hunger comes back. If you can find a way to distract yourself until the feeling goes away or are able to remember what is most important to you, then you will be successful not only now, but in the future when hunger comes back, post honeymoon stage.
