I switched to the BariMelts and have been doing a lot better with them. Why are they not recommended by your doctor? the protein shakes and powders that I was able to tolerate before surgery now make me sick even thinking about. The powders all smell and taste horrible to me. And the shakes are so thick that they just don’t sit well with me. I will have to try the yogurt!!!!

25 gram Protein yogurt: Ratio
Kris Poole replied to Jonathan Carlson's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am past the liquid phase and have been totally failing on my protein goals. It's actually been hard for me to eat and drink period. Long story but I'm totally weak and falling asleep all the time. I can't stand Greek yogurt. It tastes like eating sour cream to me but I will give this a whirl since someone said it doesn't really taste like a typical Greek yogurt. Thanks for sharing. ESG Surgery 03/14/23!
Mrs Roz replied to Notingreenbay's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I’m right there with you! My ESG is the day after yours. I haven’t bought too much stuff as I’m not sure what I will feel like eating/sipping afterward. I’m thinking room temperature hydration water and unflavoured protein water to start? -
February 2023 surgery dates!

5 Days post op and feeling pretty good! I'm weak and a bit lightheaded in the morning until I can get enough protein in. Had my first BM yesterday (sorry if TMI, but I figure after we've been through that shouldn't offend anyone LOL) Gas is slowing coming out. Woke up this morning surprised to find myself sleeping on my stomach. No nausea at all. I've barely been able to meet my protein and liquid goals, but it requires sipping all day long. The only thing is a persistant sharp stitch like cramp on my left side. Hiccups hurt like the devil LOL. How is everyone else progressing? -
GUYS! This is by far THE BEST protein bar I have tried. This is the only flavor I have tried so far but I bought the cookies and cream to try too. (200 cal, 20g protein, 18 carbs) I have tried so many, some better than others but they all have that strong "protein" aftertaste. These ones BARELY have that aftertaste, almost not even noticeable. I buy singles (way more expensive) to try them and then buy the box if I like them. I can't even tell you how many brands and flavors I have tried. I like to keep them on hand in a pinch for a meal or even a snack sometimes.

I cannot lose any weight after 1 week post op!
smc124 replied to aaleee97's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
On week 5 you should still really only be focused on your protein and hydration 60+ gr of protein 64+ oz of water. At 5 weeks out my food tracker tells me I was getting around 600 calories a day, but I wasn’t counting calories per my team’s instructions… only focusing on protein and hydration. -
Congratulations on your successful surgery and progress so far! Regarding your questions, it is common for patients to struggle with certain foods and fluids after bariatric surgery, especially during the early stages of recovery. It's important to follow your surgeon's post-operative guidelines regarding food and fluid intake, as well as to consult with a registered dietitian who specializes in bariatric nutrition to ensure that you are meeting your nutritional needs while promoting weight loss and healing. As for your specific questions: Fries: It's possible that you may be able to eat fries again, but it will depend on your individual tolerance and the type of fries you consume. Fries are typically high in fat and carbohydrates, which can be difficult for some patients to digest. It's important to start with small portions and pay attention to how your body responds. You may also want to consider air-frying or baking fries to make them a bit lighter and more bariatric-friendly. Bread: There are many bariatric-friendly bread options available on the market today, such as high-protein or low-carb breads. However, it's important to keep in mind that bread can be difficult to digest for some patients, and you may need to start with small portions and chew thoroughly to avoid discomfort. To promote continued weight loss after bariatric surgery, it's important to focus on making healthy food choices, portion control, and regular physical activity. Again, consulting with a registered dietitian can help you develop a personalized nutrition and exercise plan that works for your individual needs and goals. Regarding your dizziness and exhaustion, it's important to talk to your surgeon or primary care physician to rule out any medical complications. Walking is a great way to increase physical activity after surgery, but it's important to start slowly and gradually increase your activity level over time. Remember to listen to your body and rest when you need to.

25 gram Protein yogurt: Ratio
Jonathan Carlson replied to Jonathan Carlson's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It doesn't say Greek on it. Doesn't taste bitter to me, though it has a similar consistency. The protein comes from whey powder according to the website. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -

I have an office sweater, a bedroom sweater, a dining room sweater, and blankets on every ding dang sitting option in the house. Its a running joke in our family - my old lady sweaters and my blankets! I wish I had a solution, but 115lbs down, even in Arizona, and I'm pretty much always chilly. -
My pre-op diet doesn’t seem super strict. 2 protein shakes (Premier recommended) and then a 400 calorie dinner. On MyFitnessPal premium I inputted 720 calories as my target with a mix of 50% protein, 30% fat, and 20% carbs to yield 90g protein target. Just finished Day 2, so it’s early days but not bad so far. I typically wouldn’t eat during work hours anyway due to stress and being over consumed by work so it’s not a huge change for me.

Ha! Carrots were the first thing I officially threw up at about week 8. Ate a soft slice one day easy but the next up it came. They actually weren’t on my permitted food list for a few months - root vegetables were a no. Slider foods are high processed, high sugar &/or high carb foods with very little nutritional value. How many do you eat? 6 baby carrots/half cup is considered a single portion size but this is for someone on a regular diet.. If your carrots are very soft & well cooked, you possibly are digesting them quickly & can eat more but they wouldn’t be considered a slider. Are you eating them raw as a snack or with protein as a meal? Remember eat your protein first then your vegetables if you’re able. Portion size is important for everything you eat. At 2 months I could just eat a small cauliflower floret or a green bean after I ate my protein. Could also be the baby carrots are satisfying your craving for sweet &/or crunchy not a real hunger. Head hunger can be very powerful. Have a chat with your dietician.

I am so thirsty but water makes me nauseous. I put lemon in it and that now makes me nauseous. I don't know what to do. Protein shakes make me nauseous and that's wreaking havoc on my skin, I'm starting to regret surgery a little bit.

Gastric bypass 2/15/23. Weight Loss question.
summerseeker replied to Jonathan Carlson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different in the way they loose weight. Men on the whole, tend to loose quicker than women. You are doing really great with the weight loss and getting your protein and liquids in to you so well. The weight loss will slow down as you begin to eat more normal foods but then your restriction will kick in to keep you honest. After a while the hunger comes back and that's when all we have learned will be needed to keep us on track. Enjoy this honeymoon period you are in, be ready for the 3 week stall. -

Thanks for sharing, I was doing regular Greek or Oikos triple Zero, but these have 10g more protein which can come in handy when on the road. -
Gastric bypass 2/15/23. Weight Loss question.
Jonathan Carlson posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a successful surgery 12 days ago. My only complication was high blood pressure, so I was in Tobey Hospital (Southcoast) for 2 nights. I'm down about 28 lbs, which is a loss of 2+ lbs per day. Is this normal? I started at 386lbs. I'm not eating much. I get my protein from Fairlife Elite shakes (42g) and :Ratio yogurt (25g). Other than that, I have tea, jello, pudding and broth. Anyway, looking forward to stage 4 foods! Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -
I had surgery on 2/15/23 and I'm in the liquids phase. These yogurts are helping me with my protein goal along with Fairlife Elite shakes (42g protein). The yogurt flavors I've seen at Target and Stop & Shop include blueberry, strawberry, key lime and coconut. They're about $1.70 ea i think.

I saw this after a search for "confused about meal planning". I started off strong and enjoyed the self-care and empowerment of meal planning, but... my husband does most of the grocery shopping and cooking for the family (don't ask he just prefers it. i pick my battles. ) And I was doing making grocery lists informed by my meal planning and trying to make the meals work for the family and my FINICKY six-year-old. It was really ambitious and confusing. So then I just ate whatever my husband cooked. Then the plateau struck after losing 30lbs in a 1.5 months. I just hit 3 months and have been nibbling red meats including pork for half that time- and i don't really like the taste of meat since the surgery. (It's hard to evolve when your support system isn't) Back to empowerment--I've recently started eating "Real Good" frozen meals. They break down to about 3 portions a meal for me. Nutrition = as high as Protein 40g with Carbs 4g (6 net). They're really heavy though and I've actually just had a hard time eating since surgery. I'm also, turning to popsicles and protein bars.

I'm constantly sipping something all day long to meet my goals. By the time I can finish a protein shake, then have some water, it's now time for a snack, so I'll have a bit of yogurt, more water, now it's lunch time so I warm up some soup and so on throught the day. I'm worried about developing a bad habit of constantly "eating/swollowing" something. I'm able to meet my protein/water goals barely by working at it all day.

The Vanilla Oikos Greek yogurt is amazing with 2 tbsp of PB2 powder. It tastes like peanut butter fluff! Those help keep me full when I'm tired of protein shakes! Congrats ont he 18 lbs down so far!

Hi Krasavitza, Im on day 13 of 14 on a liquid diet. I went with the milk and yogurt diet. I had also the option of 2 shakes and 300cal meal with extra veg. But the first was easier to go with. Day 3 is hardest, but after that it gets so much easier. Spoke to my bariatric nurse on friday and she said as Id lost 20lb in 10 days to swap out some of my yogurts and add a 300cal dinner. So if after a week you are still struggling speak to your nurse to see what options you have or swap outs you can do. Good luck, you’ve got this [emoji1303] Sent from my SM-A528B using BariatricPal mobile app

I already eat almost nothing, how will this help me?
SuziDavis replied to 100+'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What I learned, is it wasn't about how much I was eating, but what and when I was eating. I think I eat more often now than I ever did before. I used to eat late at night when I finally had free time, and now I eat through the day, like a normal person. I ate very little protein before, which was a big problem. You'll see. -
November 2022 surgery support!
NP_WIP replied to feisty one's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hope everyone is doing well. I’m officially 3 months and almost a week out of surgery and 60 pound down since first thinking about WLS and that puts me at 50% weight loss from what I put as my goal weight. Had my 3month appointment last week. We went over calorie goals, macro distribution, any issues we are having and learning curves. We went over goal weight and the RN said that most of the patients say they have 20-30lbs to go on the 6-month appointment and during that appointment is when we go over the goal weight we should be aiming for and what we need to change to reach that. I should be able to get back on track with protein, fluids and exercise this week. I’m going to start with having protein shakes again at least daily (some days I was trying to meet it only with food) and carrying my 48oz water bottle with me every where and go back to weighing myself weekly. Wishing everyone good and positive energy in your journey! -
