LOL only cuz that's job security and CHA CHING for her!!! NOT!!! I agree.... I was just really put off by her... I'm in the medical field and I HATE people (doctors nurses etc) who think they are BETTER than everyone else and talk down to you... I mean she whipped out a Protein bar that was like $4.99 EACH and said she ONLY eats Greek yogurt. well back then * 4 years ago) there was only 1 greek yogurt and it was NASTY and i'm sorry but there is NO Protein Bar (unless wrapped in gold) that I would EVER buy that is 5 bucks by it'self.. A shake maybe but not a friggen bar- I mean COME ON I was not born yesterday.. Wow.. That felt good !! see FREE THERAPY!!!! lol... I'm going to try and make the PB meeting- I live in Sat Bch so Sebastian is a drive in itself... Looking forward though to meeting all of you!

DId anyone cheat while they were in the mushy /soft food stage?
divaliciousdee posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am seriously thinking about steak. I want some steak. I also want to eat some rice. What did you do? Did you give in? Will it hurt my band? I am getting so tired of the same ole food choices. I am a picky eater for a fat person and some of this stuff I get tired of really fast. I mean MOnday I will be 4 weeks post op. My nutritionist has me going to solids on week 6. I am beginning to think that it is not for the band but to optimize the weight loss or jumpstart it. I am so sick of yogurt and sf jello and I don't like mashed potatos I want some mac n cheese. I really got this band so that it would help me with portion control I don't want to have to diet with it. Certain foods are restricted everything has to be low fat and sugar free. This is the pits! -
2 Week Pre Op Diet
Nicki D replied to nancylovescats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein drinks 60 grams protein, greek yogurt 14 grams protein, 4 ounces fruit juice, low sodium broth, unlimited sugar free Jello, unlimited sugar free popsicles, Water, decaf tea or coffee. I didn't like most of the greek yogurts Fage was one I could tolerate, I would add my fruit juice to the yogurt and it tasted better that way. This worked for me and I lost 15 pounds on it. -

How long after u eat do u wait to go to bed? My dr said after eating anything I should not sleep until an hour at least and if I drink even a sip of Water I need to stay up for half n hour before sleeping... I've had severe gerd issues before the surgery so I'm trying to stay away from any refluxes as well... also avoid anything spicy... even if u take any medicine or anything wait for an hour to sleep and since ur having issues right now elevate ur head while sleeping... and have more yogurt ... I had my surgery on 27/09 so I'm still fresh but this is what I used to do when I used to get gerd Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
3weeks post op. What to eat?
JSCRIMPSHIRE replied to Melanie757's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sweet potatoes, refried beans, deli meat, cheese, cream cheese, Greek yogurt, canned peaches or pears, grilled fish, chicken.....good luck!! -
When I was on Clear Liquids I ate a lot of Soup (ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken), and drank/ate over crushed ice ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. Fortunately, I was able to drink premier Protein. When I was on full liquids I added cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to the mix. I also liked the GNC Lean 25 orange cream flavor shakes. Keep trying different brands and flavors. You've got to get in your protein.

progression of foods
Amanda131 replied to rylie19805's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Serna- I spent two weeks on full liquids, then one week on soft proteins(eggs, hamburger, fish, greek yogurt, etc.) and now I can have soft foods (no bread, Pasta, rice, under cooked veggies, etc.) until the 3 month point. I can then start slowly adding foods back in as tolerated. I have had no food issues on this plan thus far. My NUT is ridiculously nice and even gave her email in case I had questions, I'm so sorry you got a she-devil! I am looking for a good brand of Protein powder as well, I haven't found anything I love yet. Good Luck! Amanda -
I have decided to go from a hand written journal/food diary to one that EVERYONE can read....and relate to. I will also post new recipes as they come to me... I can be quite creative... so check back!! My name is Melissa, I'm 31. I have a 12 year old daughter who is the best kid ever!!...well..depending on the day! HAHA... I'm also engaged to an amazing man who I love with all my heart. Our wedding is on 11/10/07. I have been overweight since I was around 8 years old. I was never big on sports and I loved to eat.. bad combo. I never really went on a diet until after I had my daughter. Of course I did the Phen/Fen thing... lost about 65lbs.. and looked great! When the reports came out about the dangers of the drugs I stopped taking them and up went the weight. I've been allergic to scales for the most part of my life, I rely on my pants to tell me if I have gained or lost weight. Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes bad. Saying that.. my lowest size was a 10, highest 20/22. I'm currently hovering around 18/20... REALLY hoping to hit the size 18 soon.. I have some really cute spring clothes from last year to wear!! My last attempt at losing weight went very well. I began working out for about 45 min a day/5 days a week. I also had a strict diet of no sugar, low fat, low cal meals.. a typical day for me would be a breakfast of fruit smoothie made with low fat yogurt, a lunch of salad with fat free dressing and cottage cheese and grilled chicken, and dinner would be some type of grilled or roasted meat (normally chicken, turkey or fish)....I'd also have a piece of fruit and maybe a hand full of pretzels to snack on.. Seeing how I was allergic to scales I do not know the exact weight loss... but I did go from a 22 to a 16. Thats when I met my fiance, got comfortable in our relationship..and out went the diet and exercising. I gained it ALL back. This time I've had it. I thought about bypass surgery, but I really did not like the idea of my insides being "cut and paste". When I heard about the lapband surgery I took my time and really researched it..and found it to be much more appealing than the bypass. I attended my first lecture at the end of Feburary and that started my journey. So, today I got my rear out of bed and went to the gym.:clap2: I did 20 min. of cardio on the treadmill and 25 min of resistance training. It felt good. When I came home I had a home made smoothie..made with fresh pineapple, orange juice and a half of a banana..I also added a half scoop of vanilla unjury protein powder... yum!! For lunch I had a small "taco salad" using about 2 tbs of ground turkey, a sprinkle of cheese, lettuce and tomato....no shell. Not bad. ...I'm off to do housework... a never ending task. 3/5 1st Consult 3/19 Cardiologist 3/20 Life skills class (1 of 3) 3/26 Cardio stress test (PASSED!) 3/27 Life skills class (2 of 3) 3/28 Program Psych and Nurse appointment 4/2 Psych clearance 4/3 Pulmonologist 4/3 Life skills class (3 of 3) 4/23 Final Dr appointment for surgical clearance 4/25 GI Endoscopy 5/14 SURGERY!!!!

Last fill was 4.5 total ccs and so far it's amazing. This morning I took a while to eat yogurt and I didn't eat most of the fresh blueberries I storred in with it. I wasn't hungry all day although I knew I should eat, but I was out shopping and running errands. I came home and had a chicken lean cusine...well I couldn't finish it-seriously-couldn'tfinish a lean cusiene? That's insane!! I ate most of the chicken, but couldn't finish the apples. Hopefully, I'll be able to eat a little more on the cruise (but not over do it). I would love to stay at this level for a while, but I am not sure how long it will last!

Keep your life simple. When you go to work you can live on 1 shake, water, and maybe a yogurt, or 1/2 to 1 boiled egg, if you need it for awhile. I have cases of shakes I overbought, dozens of soups I stocked up on, etc. etc. Your tastes will change, eating is so simple. Never heard of the boxes. My panty is stuffed with things I thought I might need. Good luck!

I want to know honest calorie intake
SerendipityHappens replied to lwilliams65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four weeks out and I am averaging 700-900 calories per day. Yesterday I had 849 calories, 64 carbs, 33 fat and 75 Protein. I'm not even trying hard to be low calorie right now.. If I wanted to work at it.. I could get 70-80 grams of protein with just 600 calories but I want to see what my body can do in the 700-900 calorie range. If you want to consume fewer calories you definitely can do that and still hit your protein goals.. Here's an example of my breakfast 1/2 cup cottage cheese 80 calories 13 grams of protein -vs- your honey yogurt 190 calories 12 grams of protein. Or take my dinner 1/4 cup chicken and 1/4 cup green beans- 67 calories and 12 grams of protein. -vs- two spring rolls with 173 calories and 8 grams of protein. -
Not sure if I need another fill, but not losing weight
patsal replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good point, I will have to monitor that a bit more, but usually the shake lasts about 2 hours before I feel hungry, the yogurt holds for about 2 hours, the salad for two to three hours. By the time I get home from work the hunger is strong and I am ready to eat anything I can find--that is why the snacks are now all ready and pre-planned to prevent me form just eating anything I can find! Dinner is about 3 hours later and no late night hunger or anything, but I do have a SF popsicle or two every so often. -
I want to know honest calorie intake
tmbasuhre replied to lwilliams65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out and average around 600 calories per day. I just recently added an evening snack of protein. I am getting 70-75 G of protein every day and eating very few carbs- no bread or crackers of any kind at this point. I eat cheese, refried beans, ground chicken, cheese, yogurt, low fat sliced turkey/ham, tuna, baked fish, eggs- all protein/all the time:) -
Anyone else tried Open Nature Greek frozen yogurt? 150 cals/half cup and 7 gms protein. Not bad!

What do you eat for breakfast???
RVAGirl replied to Kristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgeon tell me the same thing about trying to stick with thicker foods. He doesn't wanting me eating cereal too often but he said once or twice a week is okay and suggested Special K Protein Plus Cereal (Can be found at Walmart). I also eat Quaker Weight Control Variety Pack Oatmeal, Eggbeaters, Dannon Fat Free Yogurt, Special K or Protein Plus Protein bars. The protein bars I choose I read the nutritional labels on to check the calories, fat, protein, and sodium. I've found Protein Plus to be the best for me. I do a protein bar if I can't stomach a "normal" breakfast but I don't make it a habit. -
Revision from sleeve to bypass
Connie.58 replied to throckmorton's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Kathy, It will get better. I had gastric bypass 14 years ago. Everything I liked before surgery (eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese) I couldn't eat at all after surgery. Eventually the taste for it came back. Unfortunately 3 years ago my mom passed away and I've been gaining the weight back. I'm scheduled next month for a revision. I'm kinda nervous, my last surgery was in a different state and with a different surgeon. This surgeon is great, did my sister-in-law's sleeve. There are a lot more "rules" and steps than when I had it done the first time Hope all goes well. I'm missing out on too much with my children and grandchildren - time to get my life back! -

bummer about the shoulder pain - i have a lil bit of that. my heating pad is my friend  i feel hungry, nauseous and bloated all at once. my belly is making crazy gurgling noises that startle my dogs lol. doc gave me liquid tylenol 3 (pretty yucky tasting) so i haven't been taking it a lot. thankfully, the pain level is tolerable. trying to keep up on my liquids. looking forward to tomorrow (skim milk & yogurt - yay!) take care! -
I need some suggestions on what to eat. I'm going on my 6th day post-op and can't stand another protein shake. The thought of them make me nauseated. I've had eggs blended with broth, applesauce, yogurt, baby food, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles. I'm starving n everything I have makes my stomach turn. I need protein bad to keep me satisfied. Any suggestions??? Please help.

What do you eat for breakfast???
NJMOMof2 replied to Kristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually have one of the following: 3/4 cup of Kashi with almond and flax or yogurt or Protein bar or Protein shake. (all with a cup of decaf) My NUT says to eat high Fiber for breakfast and high protein for lunch and dinner. I have found this works for me and don't follow a crazy no carb rule for breakfast. The most type of carb I eat is a pita shell. Hope this helps:) Nina -
What do you eat for breakfast???
re7777 replied to Kristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't understand why you nut won't let you eat yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast. I get that they want you eating more solid foods, but every meal? Before surgery I used to eat yogurt for breakfast anyway. My problem is I eat breakfast at work, so I need somethign that I don't need to prepare and is easily transportable. Yogurt is just that. Good luck! -
What do you eat for breakfast???
thinoneday replied to Kristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 17 months out, so my choices are large, normally I'll have some pecans, or almonds, yogurt, or those bagel thins toasted (not all together mind you! ) Sometimes cereal (Kashi + protein) or a breakfast taco. sometimes nothing except my coffee. I believe you should be able to have whatever for breakfast, even if it's dinner food like Tiffy overthere. . (love chili or hamburger meat for breakfast! Definately not gross). . I think we are just made to believe breakfast is supposed to be breakfast. . . I even eat spaghetti and meat sauce for breakfast. -
Full Fluids tomorrow..cream of mushroom/broc soup?
Wheetsin replied to Hippiemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon did not include cream of soups in the liquids phase, they were in a separate phase he called "thick liquids" - along with yogurts, purees, etc. If they were on my list, and I was still afraid of them, I would just blend them down with some Water or milk. Then you can decrease the fluids you're blending them with as you go. BTW, some are condensed, and some are not. If you buy condensed you will need to cut it or it won't be "cream of" Soup, it will be a congealed concentrate. So just watch what you're buying and be sure to read the directions.
