    1 Week Post Op

My gastric was on 01/11/12 so we aren't that far apart date wise just a couple weeks! I too was feeling very weak on the full liquid diet and was extremely happy once I was able to start on the mushy stage! I had a question for you when you 1st started on the mushy foods did you have any kind of pain at all in your stomach like it felt like your stomach was heavy, I every now and then will get a pain in mine and I don't know if it's because it's telling me my stomach is full or if something is wrong so I was wondering if you've experienced the same thing!
  3. I was banded in March 09, I didn't loose as much as I would have liked but I found myself happy. My problem is that I don't get hungry. In the morning I am a little tight, protein drink/slimfast got me going. I have become a coffee junkie so that's my start point. now. I am a late nighter and a late riser(10), my DH is usually fussing because 3 p.m. comes and goes and I still haven't eaten. I do about 4 cups of coffee and water, but I just don't feel a need for food. HELP!

    Yikes!

So, I was reading a post about a gal's biggest fear, which got me thinking about my biggest fear. At this point I think my biggest fear is being thin. I have ALWAYS been a big girl, my first diet was age 10 when my mom took me to weight watchers. As an adult I take comfort in big sweatshirts and oversized sweatpants. I don't know know how to (as stupid as it sounds) to wear shorts or skirts or tank tops. I am use to hearing things like " oh, you have such a pretty face," and "you are so lively for a big girl ( thanks grandma!)." How am I going to deal with genuine complements? Am I the only one who has these types of feelings/ thoughts? I guess I just need some comfort in knowing that I'm not alone.

    Nutrition plan share away.

Hello. I am 5 days post op too (sleeved on 10/7). I am following the Kaiser plan given to me by my nutritionist before and again given to me at the hospital before my discharge. You can print out the PDF's from the West Los Angeles Kaiser site online https://xnet.kp.org/misg/bariatrics/after.html They are very helpful and include shopping lists and portions to get 60-75g of Protein through this liquids only stage we are in for about 10 more days. Good luck!
  6. I have to do 10 days but it is not all liquid. It is high protein low carb. I can have lean meats, eggs and veggies.
  7. I joined the “losers bench” on 10/23/17 I got the standard Duodenal Switch. How long before you see a BM? I have been passing gas for the most part but feel kinda worried about no BM. Also any tips on how to stop the hiccups? It hurts so bad when they happen. I am getting all my fluids in for the most part and walking the best I can. My legs are super sore and arms as well and my abdomen isn’t as sore as I thought. I am on a clear liquid diet and my last bm was the 22nd. Thanks in advance!
  8. I certainly have had the same feeling at times...Now I am on the countdown at less than 2 weeks and the temptation is even harder....I had to loose 10% of excess body weight and I go in on this Tuesday to meet with my doc!!! I am there if I control myself this weekend! UGH!!! It is hard but I can do it! Good Luck!

    Need Some Pep Talk

You clearly know where you have gone wrong so you also know where you need to make changes. That's the logical answer but for most of us obesity is an emotional issue and it seems that that is where you are really struggling. Do you have anyone nearby who can provide you with support? My husband is my best supporter and I would be really struggling without him! If you really are looking for advice then try this....make small changes. You have climbed a huge mountain to get to your surgery so it probably feels like it should be easy from here. Sorry, it's not. but you can make it easier on yourself by making small changes, one at a time until you are enjoying the cumulative benefits. Decide to walk for 10 minutes a day and then after a week, increase to 15 or 20 minutes a day. Or decide to concentrate on drinking all of your water until it becomes a habit. Remember, you didn't gain your weight overnight and it won't come off overnight. Good luck.

    This is so sad

O how sad. The school district is NOT too smart. They screwed themselves by making that statement above. Here in Austin , Texas in general lately the schools are being OVERLY Cautious because in the past few weeks there have been SEVERAL Kids Die on the sports fields. IN houston Last week alone there were 3 kids ( one in 7 grade) die on the football field . The week before that there was a Football player in the Austin are drop on the side lines on the feild. He was dead... The had a portable defibulator and they brought him back. IN the past 2 weeks I would say there have been close to 10 middle school to high school kids die. They should be being more careful. Mindy

    Official Goal

So, I'm trying to decide what my ultimate goal should be- I can't seem to come to any conclusion. On my ticker it says 130, but honestly I think I'd be ok with 150, maybe even 170. I've never even been as small as I am right now. I'm 5'3 and 19 years old- any ideas for a goal? I had surgery april 6th, and have recently had a slowing weight loss- averaging 1.5 lbs a week, opposed to the 2.5 it was.. What I've just been doing is setting small goals and figuring out how I feel when I get to them. For example, my next small goal is 180- 14 lbs away. But I don't see myself being satisfied there. Hmmm. What did your surgeon give you for your goal weight?
  14. Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. I am five years post op and now struggling to lose the last 15 pounds of baby weight. Just called my surgeon's office to get back on track. I'm also training to do a 10 mile run in October. I'm trying different things to see if I can restart my weight loss. Anyone else going through the same struggles?

From the album: THE JOURNEY HAS BEGUN...

  18. I was banded on 7/3 also at Crown Point, the nurses there were great, it is a new facility, and not very far from my house. Dr. Kirshenbaum is fantastic, two days after my surgery (Saturday am) I had a question, called his cell phone and he returned the call almost before I got sat back down. I had a list of questions that I had taken with me to my first appt., he was very informative, patient, and didn't rush thru everything. His staff is also very friendly. Is your consultation and surgery on 10/22? Good luck with your trip and surgery. Let us know how things go.

    7 Weeks Post Op

Welp, I did better than last week and lost -3.1 lbs this week. I'm definitely starting to see patterns in my body, and how it reacts to things throughout the week. On Wednesday I weighed in at 185.6, today (only 2 days later) I'm weighing in at 187 lbs. I'll take a loss, no problem, but it intrigues me how my body bounces up and down a pound or two during the week. One of my healthier habits I've acquired since surgery, is weighing myself only once first thing in the morning when I wake up, and not doing so again until the next day. I use to be obsessive compulsive about weighing myself multiple times a day, praying I would see some kind of loss, if even a few ounces. By only weighing myself once a day, I feel like I'm seeing much better results and not dwelling on it as much. Things I also know that have been working for me are laxatives. On Monday I tried miralax dissolvable (pre-measured packets- love it) in my coffee and it worked wonders. On Wednesday, I tried a good old laxative pill and it worked wonders as well. So now I know that if my body needs a little push to dump the toxins out of my body I have options. I'm very wary of taking any laxative every day because your body becomes dependent on them, and I do NOT want that to happen. I've been fairly regular up until last week, so trying different things this week brought a lot of relief to my system, and my numbers dropped as well. I will say that my biggest NSV to date happened today. I have about 20 pairs of jeans ranging from size 16 to size 8. About 3 weeks ago I was able to squeeze into my size 12's that have been getting looser and looser. Today being Friday and jean day at work, I decided to reach for my prized (slightly expensive, but fabulously fitting) size 10 jeans just to take an assessment of how they fit and how much farther I have to go. I put them on, and to my shock and amazement- they fit. Perfectly. No muffin top either. I went and looked in almost every mirror of my house just to make sure I wasn't hanging out or fooling myself. Nope- they fit! I felt overwhelmed with emotion this morning, over a pair of jeans. It's been YEARS since I've worn them, and even then I remember the last month or so I was able to wear them, I was wearing spanx and girdles trying not to bulge out thanks to the evil muffin top! After I got in my car, got my son to school, and just started thinking- I went into a Zen like state. I just felt like everything was going to be okay. I don't know what my all-time ultimate goal weight will be, or when my body will stop losing weight, but right now, the feeling of having my beloved size 10's fit me, is enough to praise God and count my blessings. I love my sleeve! Post op Day 4

Thought I would send an update. Surgery went well well on Monday. Got out of the hospital around 4 on Tuesday after NO sleep. I swear don't ever check into a hospital for exhaustion as you get NO rest. Every hour someone waking you up to check you, make you pee or stick you for blood. Got home Tuesday at 4 and went back to ER at 10:30 PM after fever spiked to 101.5 and pain!!!!! Was at ER from 11-3:30 in the morning getting IV antibiotics and again no sleep. Weds pretty much slept all day except when trying to drink 64 ounces of fluids. Today after sleeping 11 hours last night I feel much better. Would I do this again? At this point no way! But I did get on the scale today and have lost 14 lbs. Probably that big old stomach they cut out and removed from me! I asked how much it weighed. The doctor laughed and said he didn't weigh it but it may be in the pathology report. Yea along with comments like Holy cow look at this gi-normous thing! Seriously I think the end results are going to be good and I would do it again. Just hard getting back to human.

What does "full" feel like for you?

I just wanted to add-- the truth of this depends on how filled you are. I have been at this for 7 months and I have never gotten stuck, nor have I vomited. I don't think this is true for everyone. I will say that I keep my band fairly loose (2.5 cc in a 10 cc band) because I want to avoid these things at all costs

    Excess Fat

I feel like I should write something here. Plus I have to wait for all my B2B pics to upload to FB. There's a facebook group for the support group I go to irl. The topic came up of excess fat. So I wanted to talk a little about it. In an established thread I asked 'how does one determine how much excess fat they have?' The answer I got was 'BMI.' My response was as follows: 'I'm not a BMI fan, but it's probably a good starting point. I was once told by a trainer at the gym who did a body fat pinch test on me that I have 140lbs of everything that isn't fat. So minus the muscle I'll lose as I lose weight that sounds about right based on what I think my sister weighs and my build. But 200 is skinny for me, so anything past that is amazing.' The response was, 'I'll take the drs advice over a gym trainer any day.' I feel like my response wasn't interpreted correctly. Which is ok. I don't feel like getting more into it on there. What my response was getting at: This was like 9 years ago when I had this specific body fat pinch test done at the 24hr Fitness location I used to go to when I still lived at home. According to the guy who did it, I have 140lbs of muscle, bones, organs, etc. Everything else was fat. Not necessarily all excess fat because the body needs fat. Just not as much as I've got. So for the longest time I was under the impression that I will never weigh less than 140lbs. I explained this to my boyfriend probably about a month ago and he said this logic was flawed. Now I don't know his reasoning, but I now understand why it is flawed. But none the less, I must say, it is a good reference point. So it's flawed because as I lose weight, I will lose muscle as well because my body won't need as much muscle to support 280lbs as it will say 150lbs. Therefore, it is possible for me to weigh under 140lbs. My sister and I have the same figure shape. Shes an inch or two shorter than me and we have about the same build, she is maybe a little smaller. I'm probably about a medium build. The smallest she's ever been was a size 6 in college. She is usually about an 8 or 10 depending on the clothing item, but is bigger now because she's pregnant, which is expected. So based on what I think she weighs normally, 140lbs isn't a bad guess for me. Because BMI was brought up, I googled it and looked at 3 sites to get an average number. I'm 5 '5.5". Here are what the sites said: 5' 5" 113lbs - 138lbs 5' 6" 117lbs - 143lbs 5' 5.5" 114lbs - 145lbs (small build, medium build, large build) 5' 5" 117-130 127-141 137-155 5' 6" 120-133 130-144 140-159 Given these numbers I would think that I would be somewhere between 120lbs and 145lbs. I would absolutely love to weigh under 150lbs. And I'm 99.9% sure that I will never weigh under 120lbs. Or if I did, I'd look way too skinny. In conclusion, what the guy at the gym told me is fairly accurate. I just don't think my point came across in my original comment. 209lbs is the lowest I have ever been in my adult life. Size 20 is the smallest I've been (on bottom, I'm pear shaped.) 200lbs and a size 20 is skinny for me. When I get down to a size 18 I can say, "I haven't been this small since 5th grade." If I get down to 150lbs I can say, "I haven't weighed this much since I was 10."
  24. I just posted a similar topic just about an hour ago. I was banded 10/15/09 and seem to be stuck at a 36 lb. loss. I am eating healthy and working out at least 3 days a week. I understand about muscle being more dense that fat, I understand about weight loss plateaus, and I understand the band is just a tool, but my "inner child" is frustrated because the scale isn't moving. I understand your frustration completely. We just need to understnad that this too shall pass. Let's agree to not weigh more than once a week? Deal????? Maybe that will help out mental outlook enough to get us over the hump.
