  1. I am down from a size 28 to a solid 20. I can even fit into some 18/20s. The motivation I feel when I see myself in these smaller clothes is incredible. I almost don't recognize myself because the transformation is pretty drastic. I met with a personal trainer yesterday that they offer at my office's fitness center and got some basic info. He is going to give me 2 free "trial" sessions if I sign up for at least 2 additional sessions. I am pretty sure I am going to sign up. I am making this the summer of SleeveinIL! I can't be the mother, wife, caregiver and anything else I want/need to be unless I am healthy. Food is fuel! I see the scale moving again and that is also very motivating for me as well. NSV this week...taking a bath (first since before surgery) and my behind and thighs weren't mashed up against the sides of the tub not allowing the water to flow between the front and the back of the tub. The water was able to move around and nothing of me touched the sides of the tub unless I physically moved my legs there. This surgery is giving me some confidence back for sure. I even updated my photo at work because I don't look like that anymore!

      TakingABreak

It's funny you mention the photo at work! I got questioned a bar this past weekend because my picture didn't look like me anymore. Congrats! You may have inspired me to take a bath :)

  2. Good morning, everyone. I know I've been gone for a bit but I am doing so much better now. It seems as if I am healing right up. The nausea is completely gone and the only time I get an upset stomach is if I eat too quickly. Alas, this is still something of a learning curve. On the upshot, I am ready to return to work and I am going back to tractor trailer driving because it's the best path to make a decent living given my skill set. On July 3rd, I will be starting for Schneider. It's been a few years since I've been behind the wheel of such a big vehicle so I chose the free training (and I don't have to sign an agreement either) offered by Schneider. The particular driving that I got hired for is all Mid-West lanes dedicated to Home Depot so there is no East Coast and no West Coast. In fact, just four states ... CO, NE, MO, and KS. The job is 3 weeks on/1 week off and they fly me between my home in Philadelphia and Kansas City. All in all not a bad deal.

  3. Learning all I can about gastric sleeve.  I think it may be my best option. Going to a surgery seminar next week to learn more.... any tips/suggestions/recommendation etc. welcomed!:)

  4. Some of my surgery incisions are infected (I was told I was at increased risk for infection since I'm diabetic). I got to the doctor in the early stages so its nothing major, but I'm waiting on the cultures to find out which antibiotic is most appropriate to treat the infection. I should hear from the doc's office tomorrow. In the meantime, I have no desire to eat (surgery was two weeks ago) and find myself preferring to drink my protein. Is that normal?

    1. FluffyChix

      FluffyChix

No. It's not normal. But you have an infection that is making you feel bad. So I would prolly do what makes you comfy and allows you to get your protein in, cuz as a diabetic, you're healing is hard anyway and you need that protein now, more than ever. Make sure you are drinking super low carb drinks without any added sugars!!! ((Hugs)) So very sorry you are going through this! :( Hope the cultures come back quickly showing just a run of the mill bug.

    2. Charity G

      Charity G

Thanks! I am drinking a lot of pre-mixed protein shakes (Muscle Milk and Atkins) and Crystal Light flavored waters with a scoop of protein powder mixed in. Glad to hear that maybe as the infection heals I'll feel more like eating purees and moving away from relying on protein drinks.

  5. Bouncing around 243-245 and can't seem to break this stall. Since the month after surgery I haven't lost more than a few pounds. I am tracking my food and getting enough protein (I weigh everything), I have increased my workouts and I am now doing cardio and elliptical for a min of 40 minutes/day as well as weight lifting. I am drinking about 55 - 65  oz of water. I am staying at the 600 - 800 calories as recommended by my surgeon. What is the magic required to drop these pounds? On the positive side, I have energy and am able to move around a whole lot better. I feel good and that says a lot.  This week I had 2 people at work notice and told me I am melting away.  So things are moving, just can't get that scale to budge!!!

  6. I have been stalling for 2 weeks now and I had surgery on 4/24. It's starting to be frustrating!

      Apple203

Stalls are maddening, just try to be patient. :)

Have you tried upping your protein?

    3. CurlyV

      CurlyV

Yes, I am pushing through now to get more protein.

  7. Brain dump and rambling...Here I am 7.5 weeks post op and I am stuck at the same 25lb weight loss that I have had for the last 3.5 weeks. I am feeling down, dejected and frustrated with lack of movement on the scale. I am able to get into a lot of clothes and shoes that were troublesome before so I have had some non-weight related wins, but I am ready to scream about the lack of weight loss. I have upped my calories, lowered my calories, increased my exercising and I am hitting all my numbers for protein. I am still having issues with bathroom visits and vitamins making me feel sick to my stomach. On another note, nothing I eat makes me feel sick other than the aforementioned vitamins, no nausea at all from any foods.  I seriously keep asking if I even had the surgery completed because I feel the same. I feel hungry and I FEEL THE SAME as before surgery. I am afraid I am going to be stuck here at 245lbs and not make any more progress. Did I choose the wrong surgery? Should I have done bypass instead of sleeve? Time will tell. Sigh - not a good day for me.

  8. 10 weeks out from surgery, and I just ate popcorn (Smartfood white cheddar, 3/4 cup) for the first time since surgery. It was SO GOOD; now I just have to see if it sits well. So far, so good.

Have been gradually working on trying new things; so far, nothing has given me even semi-major issues, but taco seasoning still doesn't sit well in my stomach.

    1. Mattymatt

      Mattymatt

Dang! You're pretty lucky. I am still on soft foods and having enough difficulty with them. Well, one day right!?

    2. istytehcrawk

My program moves faster than most - one day clear liquids, one week full liquids, two weeks puree, and two weeks soft, then no restrictions (other than those your body creates) at five weeks.

      You'll get there!

  9. Well not the greatest start to my day, only down 1.5 pounds and missed the crossover from obese to overweight. So another week i guess. Well at least its down even if slower than i would like.

Tuesday is nine full months and some days it feels like a blink and others like 9 years.

got to get some coffee in me, to dam early in the morning for coherent thought.

    enjoy your weekend

    1. FluffyChix

      FluffyChix

Sorry you had a rough weigh-in. It's a BEAST!!! It is so amazing the power that the scales holds over us. Isn't it? Even though you have another week to wait, losing 1.5lbs this week is super duper. Congrats. You will realize your crossover victory next week!!

  13. Well this is my first post. I decided to get weight loss surgery about 4 months ago. I was going thru alot with my health. Shortness of breathe, pain in all my joints, and having problems walking. Well this journey actually started back in 2011 when I fell at work. Since then I have had 5 surgeries and one more that is being scheduled after weightloss surgery. I also had gained about 50 lbs and my health kept deteriorating . I had gone to several doctors for all my issues and had all the necessary test and had followed several different diets.Everything needed for surgery without actually knowing I had already meet all the criterias. So when I went to Brookdale Hospital for a my Gastric sleeve appointment i already had almost everythng I needed except physic , nutrionist, and sleep apnea test. Well as of the middle of May all paperwork was in and papers were submitted to Insurance Company and as of May 26 I have been approved for surgery. Surgery date is June 13, 2016 and I am now into my second week of pre-op diet . I started this journey with a weight of 230 I am 5'4" and now weigh 215. I have studied everything from pre-op diets, post-op diets and the journey afterwards. Well Im one week away from surgery and I am becoming more and more anxious with less and less energy. Doing everything correct following diet and taking all my vitamins and using all my protein powders yet finding it harder and harder to function as a normal person. Well I guess thats it for now Ill post again as time goes by.

  14. Suppose I hit the 3 week stall. Scale hasn't moved in about a week and a half and I'm starting to think it never will again...

      SalOdyssey

Just a speed bump in the road. This too will pass! I hit a speed bump of my own the getting the surgery done, but this too shall pass and I will overcome. Hope all else is well BD!! :)

stalls are a bummer!!! if the scale hasn't moved for at least 3 weeks - that's a stall- scale not moving about one week, that' frustration!!! it will move if i have to come over and kick it!!! LOL - don't worry, you will start to lose weight again, while you win the game!! good luck - kathy

Happened to me at just 2 weeks out. Nothing to fret over, your body is just readjusting. I noticed a big drop in the tape measure during that first stall, so try paying more attention to that than the scale :)

Glad to see it warm up. I live on my patio most of the summer. I love summer nights when it cools down to 90. Sitting outside people watching at the village or downtown is the best at night.

  16. Minor setback, infection after foot surgery last week. Must heal before RNY on 6/15!

  17. Held a plank for 30 seconds today. Considering 8 weeks ago I struggled to hold it for 12 seconds, I'd say that's progress! And did four of them in a row today not just one. yeah me!

      Christinamo7

yes they do! I do them a few times a week at work - and I do yoga and pilates. Pilates is what I love best - because like Dub I want to get my abs of tin. haha :-) I'd like to make people's mouths drop when they learn about my 7 kids.

30 seconds is tremendous progress. I remember your earlier note about planks. Right now I have abs of gossamer, but have just begun -- again -- PT. Core strengthening is one of the chief goals.

  21. I have broken the 3rd stall since surgery and am down 8 more pounds for a total of 47 since surgery 15 weeks ago. 230 pounds gone from my highest weight. That new scale I got on Monday was kind of not liking either my body or maybe where I placed it as it wouldn't register for me. The number after the . wouldn't stop moving and the scale never beeped like it did for my roommate when he got on it. Yesterday the scale finally registered a weight for me. I moved it and got on it naked where as before I had clothing on.

    1. ProudGrammy
