  1. I don't mind telling family members and close friends if I feel they might benefit from knowing. I didn't tell anyone at work (except from my boss and MD whom I consider to be friends etc) and I intend to keep it this way. Cutting ties with coworkers in not an option of course.

Barebells has vegan protein bars as well but the ones pictured aren't the vegan ones, or are they?

    Food Boredom

Oh yes absolutely. Protein shakes & bars are lifesaving on those days. Especially busy days, I just can't be bothered
  4. "high protein calorie deficit" because it's still true!
  5. It is also important to remember that weight loss surgery is not a quick fix and requires significant lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet and regular exercise, to achieve and maintain weight loss. Your healthcare provider can help you develop a comprehensive plan for long-term success after surgery. In general, prior to surgery, your healthcare provider may recommend a low-calorie, high-protein diet to help prepare your body for the surgery and promote healing afterward. This may include lean proteins such as chicken, fish, and tofu, cucumber sandwich recipe as well as vegetables and fruits. It is important to avoid high-fat and high-sugar foods, as well as foods that are difficult to digest, such as fried or greasy foods, tough meats, and raw vegetables. Additionally, you may be asked to avoid caffeine and alcohol in the days leading up to surgery. Make sure to follow your healthcare provider's instructions closely and notify them of any changes in your health or diet prior to surgery.

    Timing, meals, postop

Don’t worry we will slowly meet our goals you just need to make sure you don’t get dehydrated. I hate water so I am doing sugar free apple juice. Check with your doctor and if it’s ok that would be much easier than water. For protein I got protein yogurt and it’s tasty and easy to swallow.
  7. How you feeling? My sleeve was the 20th. Having a hard time getting enough fluid/ protein in, but good elsewise.

    Post op liquid diet

You can usually add protein powder to any liquid you’re allowed during this stage. Have you been given your dietary requirements for post surgery yet? There are foods & liquids you should avoid during the 6 or so weeks of the restricted diet while you’re healing. Check with your surgeon’s office & your dietician about what you can & can have. There can be differences in what you’re allowed & when across surgeons & plans. Like I didn’t have a clear liquid stage just liquids. All the best with your surgery.
  9. Hi! I am having surgery next week and was wondering about the liquid diet post op. Are we to add unflavored protein powder to our broths during this stage? I bought some protein clear liquid (premiere and Gatorade) so I didn’t know if I should be doing that also.
  10. I hear you on the protein drinks! Last night I was having a strawberry one and I could barely stand it it was so sweet! I am mostly a back sleeper, and sometimes roll on my side when restless. I was surprised to wake up on my stomach!
  11. I want to make a chocolate peanut butter protein shake and I want to use peanut butter instead of the powdered peanut butter. Is it okay to use it? I love jiff brand
  12. Not only do hiccups hurt, but sneezing too lol. I'm still having trouble getting my goals met. But I can't achieve them if I the a nap during the day. That's hard wven before surgery, I took a nap during the day. I find it hard too because I'm so sick of protein shakes, they're starting to taste so sweet to me. I can't wait to start purees next week. It doesn't hurt to sleep on your stomach? When I was able to sleep on my side a few days ago, I was so happy, but I have to have a pillow.

    Weight loss support meetings!

do they have to be in person? Unjury (the protein company) offers weekly virtual support groups and they do send receipts to you if you attend. They have one group for people pre-op to one year post-op, and another group for people over a year out (although people sometimes attend the "wrong" group - the leaders don't really care...). You can check to see if your insurance company or surgeon (whoever is requiring support group attendance) will accept that. I would imagine some do since they send people who attend a receipt afterward. Here's the info: https://unjury.com/resources/weight-loss-surgery-unjury-cares/
  14. Okay I had a sleeve 3/9/2021 and lose a pretty good chunk of weight but since I have gained it all back. My doctors have tested me for many things hoping to find answers to why I am so hungry and I am still waiting on a couple more results but it is looking more and more like I just failed. I am meeting with the bariatric doctor again tomorrow to see if they think revision is an option for me (assuming the rest of those tests come back fine as well). My question is, for those of you who revised because of weigh gain, did it work the second time around and if so what changed? What did you do different?!

    Carbohydrates

Welcome to the forums, Tina. You won't find "normal" diet protocols in relation to WLS, so most things aren't considered nor counted, if at all, until much later in the process when eating begins to approximate anything close to normal. The chorus is "Protein first," which we all learn early on. As one approaches a normal weight and "maintenance" mode more normal macros come into play, though not always. It's a different ride than the ones you've been on before. Enjoy! Good luck, Tek

    yummy snacks

Ok hear me out but if you're craving pizza...this is what I do. I use a lower-carb tortilla (my favorite are the Mission Cauliflower tortillas but they are a bit higher in carbs than some of the other brands), and fill it with about half an ounce of mozzarella cheese, some turkey pepperoni, and whatever other pizza toppings I like (mushrooms, green peppers, onions, etc, whatever you've got that you like)...fold it in half, toast it up like a quesadilla. cut it into thin strips and dip it in pizza sauce. I call it a "Pizza Melt" because I feel weird calling it a quesadilla but it does definitely scratch the itch and is a nice filling meal with protein and veggies.

Barebells have a texture similar to a Milk Way. They are sort of soft and fluffy inside; less chewy than a Built Bar, but not grainy like a Dive Bar. They have great macros, and even come in a plant based version. My only complaint is that they are VERY sweet. I don't eat protein bars much, but when I do its typically while I'm out and about and need something to replace a meal or carry me over between - these are SO sweet that sometimes they make me a little queasy.

    My face my poor face...

Sounds like Hives... one of your pills or even a protein can be causing it. I had to switch out a supplement due to being allergic. When I get hives it is very similar.

I am always up for new protein bars to try! I recently discover Fulfill bars and they're great as well.

    Carbohydrates

They don't generally give you a number to stay under; the most common practice I've observed is that you'll be given a goal for protein, which in the beginning is hard to reach if you're eating much of anything else. You won't have the real estate in your tiny stomach for carbs if you are focusing on protein for at least the first six months, and you should use that period of time to get used to the idea that a meal doesn't have to have sides like potatoes or pasta. You may also find after your surgery that it's difficult for you to digest a lot of things we're referring to when we say "carbs" (for instance, I still can't eat more than a small bite or two of pasta, potatoes, or rice and still have to avoid sugar because I'm afraid of dumping).

    Just had surgery 2/14

Have you tried the protein shot drinks I’m planning to start taking those because my protein shakes I have makes me so nauseous every time I try to drink them

    Just had surgery 2/14

Thanks appreciated. Having a tough time meeting protein goals but trying my best. Today I start my 3rd week diet where I can finally have eggs and possibly tofu (if I can stomach it [emoji38]) so hopefully a turning point on the protein. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Feb sleeves unite!

Before the surgery, I enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter premier protein shake. Now, it tastes horrible, like cigarette smoke, to me. Really random change in taste buds. I also have no interest in chocolate anything, after being a lifelong addict 🙃
  24. It gets easier by the day to meet the protein/liquid goals. Hang in there! Tomorrow, I'll be at 3 weeks post-op and returning to work on Thursday. Went to the gym twice now and was slow, but steady, on the treadmill. It's been night and day from the first week to the third. Feeling so much better.

My surgery was 2/13 as well and I’m in the same boat. I’m just now able to drink some water a little better but still only getting about 30oz. The protein makes me sick so that’s not even come close. I’m worried about it. I had to go back in fluids once too. Then I see some people with no trouble at all.
