Revision and the honeymoon phase ?
Tracyringo replied to Tracyringo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I havent been losing much at this point nor do I want to. I lost 25lb more after the revision and have been maintaining it now for a good 6 to 8 months. I have noticed that if I dont eat a normal 3 times or more a day my weight will drop. I had a crown done a week ago and havent been able to eat on that side and dropped 7 lbs in a week!!! CRAZY -
I am happy for you that you are a candidate for rebanding. My band was revised and Doc said if it slips again he can't save it or replace it. The 4 months I was completely unrestricted was he** so I understand how happy you are to be keeping your band. Best wishes, Mimi

Exactly my sentiments! No regrets on my revision from band to rny either. Best decision of my life!!! -
IDKY my eye was immediately drawn to your subject line. LOL! I've heard we should wait a year! Yup, that's what I heard. With that said, I'm 5 months post op band to sleeve revision & I've had a few since then. Not many, but at least 3 or 4 in total. What I can tell you, beside what you already know about the empty calories..etc.., is that you get tipsy MUCH quicker! it seriously only takes me less than 1/2 cup to feel the effects. I rarely drink, but when I do, woo hoo!!! LOL, be safe!

I have personal feelings on this - I totally believe its the American approach to banded life and the American culture surrounding what is healthy and what is not, which is SO different to the Australian viewpoint, that is at the root of the high levels of band problem and failure. I think that the way its approached there, leads to levels of restriction that our approach here just doesnt require and hence the problems. I too know many banded people, some have had problems such as slippage and revision, and not surprisingly some of those people have been rather disordered eaters/dieters who've tried to rely on very tight restriction. But I know plenty of people who've had bands in the 3 to 8 year range, lost all their weight, kept it off, never had a problem. I'd choose it 1000 times over here, rather than removing half of an organ. However, if I were moving to the US for the rest of my life, I'd be sleeved in a heartbeat. Totally situational, totally personal. The arguments with this start, I believe, because people who are sleeved are trying valiantly to encourage people to make an informed decision. They're not rubbishing the band, but the ADVERTISING of the band. It is pushed as an easy, trouble free surgery and its just not. Bands work best for people who are not too ill, who can control their food intake, their exercise habits etc and will work with a tool that's 90% about user choices. It is not advertised that way and many many people are misled into believing its easy weight loss. Its just the way it comes across is very anti band and is equally as misleading in suggesting the band's totally useless and obsolete. Stats dont change my opinion either, nor do peer mediated reviews or any of it. Its all just flavour of the month stuff, here today, disproved or debunked tomorrow. I couldnt choose a sleeve when I got banded, there wasnt the option, it wasnt done then. So what's the point worrying about THAT? If I ever have to have my band removed, then I've got more options to consider. Its the same as the whole low carb/high carb debate. People push all these studies "proving" that high protein's better, and that high carb was all a conspiracy. Idiots. Werent there a million "peer mediated" studies PROVING the low fat, high carb lifestyle was best back in the 80's. Of course there were. Just as there were supporting a high protein approach back in the 60's and 70's. Its been dubunked once, replaced with another lifestyle and its back again. Are people honestly stupid enough to swallow it all hook line and sinker again? Do they really think something newer and better wont be on the scene in a few years? That's what I think of studies and stats and scientific proof. I make my own choice based on my gut feel (pardon the pun) and I try to do things in a moderate way, not swinging towards any extreme, rather sitting on the fence or taking the middle path. That's why I ahve no particular feeling about having an "obsolete" surgery (hey, I'm thin, who the f-ck cares anyway?) or thinking that the sleeve will be absolutely problem free.

I'm also a Dr. Barker alum - from both the lap-band and now the VSG. And yes, he is super cute. His ads don't do him justice. I'm sure he knows all the ladies have the hots for him. A couple of days after my first VSG post-op visit (I had lap-band revision, he also removed my gall bladder and fixed a hiatal hernia), I got a hematoma under the incision where my band port had been. The incision opened up and the blood drained out, so I had to meet Dr. B at the ER for him to clean it out and make sure I was OK. Since I had just seen him earlier that week, he quipped "we're going to have to stop meeting like this or your husband will start to suspect something" and gave me a big grin. I thought I was going to melt into the floor.

Seconds of stomach pains...
LisaNLasVegas replied to fccm04's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I currently have a band - gettin a revision to the sleeve on Aug. 5. WIth me, those pains occur when something is getting stuck or a little too big of a bite - it was from my esophagus having spasms because of the stress of getting something down. WIth the band, it is/was a common pain. I'm not so sure if it is normal with the sleeve. I hope not, because one of the reasons I am getting a revision to the sleeve is because I don't want to be in pain every time I eat!! I hope it goes away soon. Try to eat slower - even smaller bites in the beginning. -
You have way more fortitude than I do! I'm still waiting for my area of dehiscence to heal completely (I'm down to scabs), and I will have to get a revision at some point since the seroma stretched me out. I had planned to get a breast lift in the near future, but now I don't even want to deal with any more surgery for a long while. My surgeon asked me how I was feeling emotionally when I was about a month out, and acknowledged that lots of patients feel depressed initially after this surgery. I appreciated that he brought it up, since most surgeons I know wouldn't ever want to bring such a thing up. I hope we are both up and about very soon!

Just got the Revision from a 2013 LSG to DS 10 days ago. I'm recovering well and seeing excellent results. Everything went better than expected. Just graduated to Puree stage today after four weeks of a liquid diet. The diet was satisfying and I never went hungry. Now I'm adding some new foods to my diet for this 2 week stage. In these COVID-19 times, the hospital does not allow visitors so no family could visit during my 5 day stay. I had four other required procedures that week for a total of 3 surgeries over 4 days. I've seen a lot of great, relevant information on this forum. I look forward to getting through the journey with all of you.

Revision and the honeymoon phase ?
mae7365 replied to Tracyringo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm only 6 months post revision, so I'm not really sure if there is a honeymoon period like I heard about with the sleeve. I too have gotten below my goal and significantly lower than I ever got after VSG surgery. But I was overweight, not obese, at the time of my revision since the surgery was done for medical reasons, not for weight loss. I really don't know why I've lost so much weight, since I feel like my insides have been healed for months. I try very hard to eat healthy and I walk 5-6 miles a day. But I would be less than honest if I said I never ate sweets, snack foods etc. I haven't been actively losing weight for the past month (only lost 1.2 lbs. in the last 30 days). I think I'm actually in maintenance, which would be great if I can just keep doing what I'm doing and maintain! If it's a honeymoon, I hope it keeps going. -
Surgery date March 16th, who's with me? ????
foreversleeved08 replied to foreversleeved08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did it go? I got revised from band to sleeve this morning and feeling great (all things considered lol). Not about to run any races quite yet That's great thundergrrl!!!!! And haha same here! I was expecting a lot of pain just preparing myself for what some were saying here and I guess I was a lucky one...just have some soreness but the hydromorphone (morphine?) is taking care of that ...I have a high tolerance for pain though too so that could be it. My mouth is dry still and sleep is always difficult in a hospital, but I'm also an extremely light sleeper. They just came in and took bloodwork, I'm guessing the doctor will be seeing me around 8am Hope everyone is doing good! Check in here if u can, I'd like to know yall made through fine -

Keloid scars after surgery?
mercedes75 replied to MelissaRose24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I developed 3 keloid scars and and one of them kept getting irritated because it rubbed my bra. I had surgery 1 Dec 2015 and about 6 months later during my doctor follow up I asked him if he could remove them. I scheduled and outpatient minor surgery (scar revision) and everything went well. I was given a cream to put on the wounds for 5 days, I think it was some type of steroid to prevent another scar from forming. Two weeks later it was completely healed. I do have a bit of discoloration in that area but with time you can barely tell. By the way, I lost 100 lb 9 months after my surgery I used to weight 282 lb. In total I lost 127 lb and as of today I weight 156 lb. -
Well on Monday 7/30/07 @ 7:30 am my band is officially leaving me! I found out on 6/1/07 that I had a slip with some errosion and was trying to hold out for my insurance to cover a revision from Lap Band to RNY, but my stomach will not let me wait any longer. The reflux is so bad and the esophogitis is really painful even being on 3 different meds to try and help settle things for a bit (nexium, carafate, and reglan). My paperwork went in this afternoon for my revision surgery and it was a total joy to have to do EVERY little thing over from scratch again (cardio, psych eval, pulmonary, dietary, support group, endoscopy, colonoscopy, abdominal sono and primary care MD). So unfortunately I'm going to have 2 surgeries now :car: I'll probably have the RNY revision after 8/27 when I get my daughter settled into her freshman year at college. So this is my tale of woe for now Jane

Just alittle update...I got my insurance approval today :clap2: and I'm schedualed for my revision to RNY on 8/29 :omg: I want to thank everyone for the kind words and support they've shone me over the past several weeks! Jane

I had a revision I'm always starving and over eat. I'm not losing much weight but really don't care just trying to get protein before I go completely bald but I hate shake they literally make me gag!! Need fellow revision patients experience please!!!

Anyone else at 30 BMI when they were sleeved? (Revision)
Screwballski posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Is there anyone out there that got sleeved with a relatively low BMI? I’d dropped to exactly 30 the morning of surgery. Had it been lower it would have been called off. Can I expect to loose my weight as quickly as others, given complete compliance (which I have maintained to the letter), or will it take me longer because I have less to lose. Has anyone else been through this? SW 180 CW 171 (14 days post op) GW 140 -
Abdominal Crunches After Surgery
TulipStar replied to srowland2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to wait 6 weeks. Then my port flipped (came unstitched from the muscle). The first thing the tech asked me was if I did any crunches because that sometimes make it comes unstitched (even after 6 weeks). So, after I had my revision surgery to restitch my port, I stayed away from all abdomnals for 6 MONTHs! I just started doing abs again. -
My revision was one in 2 surgeries too. That's the only way my doctor will do it now. He used to do it in one surgery, but he said the chances of a leak are a lot higher (but like you said, still low) with one surgery. I had my band out in March but because of some other things that came up am just having sleeve surgery tomorrow. I hope that by waiting 5 months my stomach will be well healed and that I'll get a nice tight little sleeve.

Sorry typing on tablet. I had bilateral knee replacement that summer. I gain back up to 240lb by the time of my revision last summer. My. Band had caused major problems with my esophagus, so I didn't have to wait to get removed. I am now fluctuating between 195lbs and 200lbs and my goal weight is 170lb. Ideal weight 150lb. Weight loss has been very slow, but I work 2nd shift and don't workout as often as I need to. Good luck
