I must say that I did have every complication you can think of, however I don't mean to sound vain, but I would do it again. I did have it done in Mexico by a very experienced set of doctors. I know about 10 people from my small town that had used this place and they were all successful. My mother-n-law went in 30 minutes before me and had no complications. I lost about 60 pounds during the time I was sick. I am steadily fighting to keep from gaining. I wish I could have it put back in but I am too scared. I went to Mexico to save money, but it has ended up costing me over $100,000 in medical bills. I had it removed here in the U.S., which is where I highly recommend you have anything done. My dad just had the "Sleeve" done and he has lost about 80 pounds and is doing great. No fills or foreign objects. I would recommend that over the lap band.
Good Luck!!

Hello I am Quetzalcoatl -- I am over one hunderd pounds beyond my ideal weight.
I've tried dieting to no avail. I'm researching the lap band procedure.
Hello to each of you and I bid each of you the best of everything

I am thinking of the lap band surgery. I'm 4"11 and 244 lbs. I'm worried that my BMI which is 50 my be too much for the lap band surgery. Is that true? Will I have to lose weight first?

Hey!! Hope your surgery went well! It is absolutely a fun process especially when the weight starts FALLING off!
I was banded on March 12th. I am going in for a second fill next Monday! Very exciting!!
-
I "just" walked this 5k...that was goal enough for me! It kept me motivated and set a goal that wasnt weight related. I will probably do a few more before it gets REALLY hot down here. Maybe by next year I will be a runner..or at least a jogger

I left a message on your post about going to liquids. I came to take a look around your profile to see when you were banded compared to how much you've lost. Its barely been 4 weeks girlie - you're doing great. You're averaging more than 4lbs a week. That's AWESOME! Like I said - you should be losing about 1% of your weight a week. which is about 2.5 lbs. You're doing almost double that. Don't feel discouraged!

I would rather eat my calroies than drink them. I run on the treadmil for 2 miles at lunch and then do a 50 min workout at home. I will do 100 sit ups before I go to bed at night. It is all in what you put into it. I had a little trouble when I went in to get a fill. I was 5 months and just going in for my first fill. They found out that my port had flipped and I would have to go back in for surgery to get it stiched back in. After the revision surgery (two weeks later) I was able to get my first fill. After the fill I kept having problems with certain foods. I would have to throw up about every other day. I told my doctor and the suggested that I come in to have some fluid taken out. The doctors weighed me and found out that I was losing 5 lbs a week. Which is great weight loss for me but I told them I would rather not lose it that way. So they took out .10CC of fluid and I have been doing great again! I am on my average 3 lbs weight loss a week and I can eat anything so far.

I know I just left you a message but I just checked out your profile and we are practically the same age. My birthday is in late July. How awesome is that? We'll hopefully be a good gauge for one another since we're the same age, and similiar weight with similiar goals. I want to get down to the 170's. So how tall are you? I'm 5'11.

Thanks!!!! I really try to watch what I eat. I log all my food in sparkpeople.com. I eat very little the week after a fill and then as my restriction goes away, I start to eat more. I get fills every month and that works for me. I usually eat coffee and sf creamer for breakfast and some light/ff yogurt. Lunch is cottage cheese, some deli sliced turkey meat and some fruit. Dinner is a lean cuisine or some type of protein and veggies--think fish or chicken. I don't eat sweets and I try to keep it low carb/low fat/high protein. I also work out 3-6 times per week doing at least 30 min of cardio on the elliptical machine and doing strength training on the weights 2-3 times per week. I've lost 68 pounds since the pre-op diet and surgery on December 1st, 2008. Let me know if I can answer any questions and good luck. You're doing great!

Ouch!!! 10 days really HURTS!!! good luck to you!!
My surgery went very well, I love my Dr, now the hospital on the other handis another story, lets just say I was happy to be home (thought my hubby was gonna kill someone LOL).
As far as weight loss....today is day 6 post op and my scales say I'm down 6lbs, I have my follow up Friday morning so I'm looking forward to seeing what the office scales say.
Gas pain didn't start until day 4, but it's still lingering, a heating pad seems to help alot though.
So how was your surgery and how are you surviving thru "Bandster Hell"??
It is sooo nice to have someone to share this experience with!!

im glad you got it that was the day after mine. I can eat anything and everything too. I hate it but my doctor isn't wanting me to get a fill for a month so it sucks. I think ima call him tomorrow though and see what i can do. It's really difficult for me to stop snacking. Man it's killing me. And making feel horrible in my head i feel guilty for eating it. I stopped loosing weight. Im just at a stnad still I hate it.
