    The "bariatric Blues"

Well this coming week will be my 6th week out of work, today my energy level is at an all time low, my stomach hurts, (tmi) diarrhea, migraine, and lost 11lbs in 2 days... I spoke to my surgeon and he's sending me to the ER for tests, hope all goes well thank you all for your support!
  3. I told my mom, just in case I died during surgery. VSG is MY choice, but I am my mom's son, and just like I would want to know if my daughter was having surgery, regardless of whether I agreed of what is was for...., I felt mom deserved to know of my physical safety. TMI? Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I had my Upper GI yesterday. Boy oh boy do I wish I had done the endoscopy instead! The liquid chalk wasn't too bad going down and the xrays only took about five minutes. It's the chalk coming back out that's the problem. I had a belly ache all yesterday. I drank lots of water as suggested but that chalk sat in my gut like a painful bowling ball. Today it's been nothing but gas and going to the bathroom. I am so glad I am on summer vacation from work because my co-workers wouldn't be enjoying my constant gas and going to the bathroom. I aide an autistic child on a school bus and there's certainly no bathroom on a bus. Sorry if this is TMI. Lisa

    2005 Vegas Bash

Okay, so am I under the understanding I am going to try and coordinate this thingymabob? I can get on the horn with Lisa and start organinzing for her if she wishes. Plus, if anyone says I am a babe I am all for it. Hey, were you looking in my window last week during my "flashdancing" for my hubby? I tell ya, when I did that running move I almost ended up in the kitchen from the bedroom! oh, tmi. Sooooooo Lisa, PM me with your tele # so I can bug ya. Let's get this ball rolling! Don't feel bad about the group pricing at the hotels Penni, it is a fine art of dealing with the hotels and finagaling a great price. You guys aren't very good with counts huh? Is there a way to set up a poll thread or something? If anyone needs me to check for airfares, PM me. I can at least tell you what I see and how to go and get it, I can't actually book it anymore. But I can tell you where to go. So, let's get this rolling... I reallyyyyyy need to get a count. Can we start a running thread or something? Ballpark room count? Jenna
  6. I've been banded since Oct 29, 08 and to this day, I haven't eaten steak or salad since my banding. I'm terrified I'll get them stuck. Does that seem crazy? I don't have any problems with chicken, hamburger meat, grilled fish, or even lamb chops... but am terrified to try steak. And the lettuce in the salad scares me... it seems like pre-banding, no matter how well I thought I chewed it, it seemed like I'd always poop out a piece of lettuce.. (TMI, I know... sorry!) So, should I just suck it up and try them??? Are you guys able to eat steak and salads???
  7. I'm in a stall too. It's been a little over a week. I know I need to kick up the exercise, but starting back to work this week has kicked my butt. The hour commute home doesn't help either. Just FYI and probably TMI, but Citrucel is my new friend. Can't take it all the time, but it seems to work for me. I'm going to insert more Fiber into my diet while keeping the Protein up. Broccoli with my Greek yogurt gorgonzola dip anyone?

    Surgery was August 20th

I, too, had my VSG & gallbladder out on the 22nd. I'm told my gallbladder was HUGE & they had to cut it into three pieces to get it out! I have the video of my surgery & it took longer for them to free up & remove my gallbladder than it did to do the sleeve. Still, only the one of six incisions is a bit sore & I'm able to get by on just acetaminophen for pain. The main issue I've been having for the last couple of days is "gurgling" gassy intestines & liquid stools (TMI, I know). But I know it will improve once I get to add Protein shakes on day 8.
  9. MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH

Serious problems with the lap band....

I too am a healthcare provider. I have been a CNA for almost 12 yrs. now. Since I've worked at a Nursing Home, I haven't seen anyone with complications from the lapband. I have however weighed the pros and cons on this procedure and the pros far out weigh any cons that I have heard or read about. Growing up I was actually underweight. When I met my ex-hubsand, I started gaining my weight. When I got pregnant with our 1st child, I gained over 100lbs. I never lost the weight from having her, guess I was too secure with my married life. 2 years after my 1st born, I had a little boy. By the time I had him, I weight around 230lbs. Never felt the need to lose the weight after him either. The day my ex-hubsand left, I weighed 300lbs and was so unhappy at where my life was going. Let's see, he left the last thrusday in June and by the new year, i had lost down to 218lbs. All on my own, plus my freind depression helped me quite a bit.lol. Since then, I have remarried and wonderful man and have gained back up to right at 300lbs. I'm sick and tired of not being able to get out in the yard and play with my kids because 1. my back starts hurting after just a few minutes of standing, 2. I can't do hardly anything because i get out of breath too easily and i guess my having asthma dosent help that part out any at all, and 3. I just don't have the energy to get up and run around the yard with them. That is what brings tears to my eyes. I'm so ready to have this surgery done and then start dropping the pounds and feeling good about myself once again. But most of all, give my kids the mom they deserve, (the kind of mom that can play and run with them) and to finally be a real wife to my new hubsand that i have only been married to for a little over 4 months but been with for over 2 years. OK if this is TMI, I'm sorry I really am but I don't like looking at my body fully clothed much less naked and my hubsand isn't going to even get the chance to see me naked until this weight comes off and i feel comfortable in my own skin. So in 18 days, I start my new journey and I am so excited about it.

    Hungary and Eating at night

I have been going though the same thing. My last fill was in October, but I have been going back and forth. One day I feel fine and then the next day I cannot eat all day. Finally in the evening I can eat a little bit. Anyway, I was having a lot of sinus/allergy problems and started taking Zyrtek and it seems to help. I was able to eat lunch and dinner today with no problems, and I actually feel hungry tonight. I was having a lot of Post Nasal Drip(I know TMI) but the allergy medicine seems to clear it up.....hopefully it continues to work.
  11. Upper GI test is nasty. It went in pink and milky and came out pink and milky and explosive! Not cool . I do love my nutritionist. She is awesome. Anyway. Sorry with the TMI. For the first few days of liquids only what are the brand of protein drinks you are using? The clear liquid protein drinks??
  12. Thanks Restless Monkey. After I posted the message I thought the same thing and called. I was seriously one step away from the emergency room! They told me what to do and I finally got relief. (TMI to share on here) lol  I still have trouble getting in 64oz of liquid but I get at least 50 oz a day of Water and crystal lite. I am on soft soilds so I eat cottage cheese and yogurt and dairy products usually help me ward off constipation but not this time. Do I have to worry about this being a problem all the time or does it even out? Thanks for your post.
  13. This is a cross post- Here are my quick stats: Lap-Band in Monterrey, Mexico in 2003. Over 11 years I lost 100 pounds and gained back 40. Revision to Gastric Sleeve in Las Vegas August 5, 2014 When I was first researching about a revision surgery and the sleeve, I read about so many complications. I learned a lot about what could happen. For those of you who are debating surgery, here is my success story: My experience has been great. I have NO REGRETS. I had my revision surgery from the lap-band to a gastric sleeve in one operation. In fact, it was done as an outpatient. I arrived at the hospital at 6am and was on my couch recovering at about 4:30 pm. Since the first day I was able to drink Water and a ready-made Protein shake. It was slow drinking, but had no issues. I took my pain medication for 2 days, only because I was scared that if I didn't take them, I would have pain. I didn't. I would say the worst pain I felt on a scale of 1-10 was about a 4. I slept on my side after about 3 nights. I took a shower the day after my surgery and walked a lot. On about day 3 I got the gas pains, but took Gas X and they only were bad for about an hour. I had no problem getting in my 60 grams of protein - in fact, I usually had 80 grams (2 shakes and one powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup broth) On day 10, my Protein Shakes started to disagree with me - well, my intestines disagreed with them! As soon as I started drinking, I could feel my intestines filling with water and would have to run to the bathroom. TMI I know, but it happened. 14 days after surgery at my 2 week follow up appointment, I told my doc that the protein shakes were giving me issues and his response was to stop drinking them and "let's get you on solid foods." I haven't had one since (almost 2 weeks ago). Since then, I have been eating real food and I feel great! I have mostly had softer foods like deli turkey or eggs but last night I had salmon and it was great. I feel better today 25 days after surgery than I have felt in the last 2 years. I have lost 25 pounds but it must look like more because everyone I see is asking me if I have lost weight (I don't think I look like I have, but that's another issue.....) I have energy like never before. I sleep better. I feel "normal" when I go out to eat. I sometimes want the junk, but I am able to resist. My stomach has NEVER growled and I don't feel hungry. Sometimes I feel "empty," but I can wait to eat. I am a boring patient. I LOVE being boring! Anyone else out there proud to be boring?

    Aunt Flow during Surgery?

Tmi FYI,: I actually went to surgery on mine and the Dr made me remove my tampon and lay on chux pad.
  15. Ugh, so I had two 10oz bottles this morning and it started working within an hour and works until now! Anybody knows how long it's supposed to have effect on you? I really wanted to go out for a walk, but I cannot be in less than 10 yards radius from the restroom sorry if TMI
  16. Another December 9th sleever here. Heading into the TMI area. I feel like I'm in bondage, Left arm has blood pressure and Left hand has IV. Right Finger has oxygen sensor, and Right wrist has 3 hospital bracelets, Nose has oxygen tube in each nostril. Legs have cuffs to prevent blood clots. Stomach has the bandages and I have a drain. Got my pain pump, and call button, and other room controls. Have my laptop and phone plugged in. Whew. And I have had to pee... a lot,so every time I have to go, I have to get unhooked from it all. Plus it takes forever to actually start going. I also Nurse game me omeprazole thru IV and that's generated lots of burping. Able to have ice chips but if I over indulge I get nauseous. Over indulge being about 15 ice chips. And I'm HUNGRY. That scares me, thought the hunger would be gone. Oh yeah, my scalp is itchy and dry. On the plus side my little cheats (the chicken and carrots in my "broth". The few ounces of turkey with a tablespoon each of potato, stuffing, squash and cranberry sauce. The 1/2 scrambled egg at lunch the day before surgery.. Those cheats did not come back to haunt me. I have a private room, Moving over to the post surgery threads, but wants to let you folks know it wasn't that bad. My complaints are all minor compared with my health issues due to obesity. Soooooooo glad to have done this. Good luck everyone, and see you on the other side~ Moving to the loser's bench. Can't wait till you join us there. Going back to sleep as soon as the nurses do their thing.

    Relationship Talk

Definitely. Though, I was single when I had my surgery. I see so many stories of people getting divorces and breaking up after the weight loss that it has scared me alot. I'm much thinner than I was and am now just a bit overweight but even so, I voiced my fear with the guy I'm seeing now because he's said he has been preferring bigger women. I told him I was afraid when I get to goal he will no longer find me attractive. He told me he will always find me attractive, that weight isn't the only thing attractive about me. He has also seen me with all of this extra skin (there is a ton since I've lost over 295 pounds!) and he STILL loves to see me naked (TMI maybe lol). I think we worry about our bodies MUCH more than our guys do. I think my biggest advice is don't let your fear become the wedge between you two. If you worry about it too much it will make these thoughts come true. Be confident (I know this is hard) in you and your relationship. It will only cause unneeded stress that is making something big out of something that doesn't even matter to him. Good luck to you! We are always here for you if you need to vent too!
  18. AJW, I am on the pre-op diet and doing the protein drinks/shakes and it was like cement for me. So I bought Miralax and took 2 doses and didn't really notice a difference! Kept waiting. I read the same warning to not take more than 1 week and don't think that will be an issue with me. My husband got some Colon Cleanz herbal formula from GNC which also says not to use more than 7 days but that DID work. Just read the cautions. I have always been regular and this protein stops me up. I hope not to have this issue all the time or I will need to wear a panty liner for all the Proctosol I am slathering on. TMI
  19. I have been having some pain around my port area. It only hurts when I am active or when I twist in a certain way. I just had a fill and my doc said that everything looked fine. Is it just from the surgery? I am 5 weeks out. My port is above and to the right of my belly button...on my upper abdomen....right on a fat roll (sorry, TMI?) Therefore, when I bend over or even sit on the toilet, there is a little uncomfortable feeling (maybe I shouldn't say pain). Will this go away? Does it take awhile for you to stop noticing your port?

    My APRON ----UGHHHH!!!!

I use toning creams, I wish I could tell you which ones but I got an email stating to "stop advertising", not sure if someone told on me thinking "I am advertising", The other day I was at the hospital accompaning my good friend with her sleeve surgery (I work at the same hospital, so I was able to be there day and night, off shift and even on shift go check up on her etc), as I was changing into my scrubs, I took off my pants and didn't realize how my flap had shrunk! Not to be gross but I was happy to be able to see my hoohaa! lol sorry, tmi. But after experiencing the whole pre op hours and recovering time, etc... I was really wishing I could redo my surgery and just have the same joy of my rebirth! I had surgery March 1st 2011 THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF! I am glad I found this site as well to be able to chat with you all, those who know what I am going through.

    19 Days (reminding myself)

Only 19 days until surgery! I feel like today is the first day that every time I think about the surgery, I get a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. Not that I'm second guessing myself, I guess it's just anxious energy. I do have to remind myself occasionally why I am going this route. All my tests came back good, I have no sleep apnea, no heart problems, nothing wrong with me that people would usually relate to being obese. I'm sure those problems would probably come later though. However, I have noticed a lot lately that when I start to walk after sitting for a while, my legs hurt. I feel like I'm limping a little until my legs get used to it. It's a very odd feeling and I've only noticed it for the past few months or so. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I helped out with a childrens Halloween party on Sunday, and that night, I felt like EVERYTHING hurt (thanks to a lively game of Simon Says) and I was extremely tired the next day. One of the main reasons I am doing this, is because I desperately want to have children one day. Sorry for the TMI, but there was a time when about 3 months went by and I didn't have my period. I am usually pretty regular and got really spooked. Hence the reason I started to research WLS. I am a bit anxious for reactions I may receive after surgery but I'll jump that hurdle when I get to it. Well I guess that's it for now.
  23. Sorry if tmi but I was just wondering when I should expect to have a BM? I am 1 week post op and no sign that it's near but it's so strange for me.. I'm used to being a once a day kinda girl. ????
  24. Good advice Kb88, I had my surgery on 12/26/14 & I did read LOTS & it helped to know what to expect. The pillow from home was a HUGE help, not just for comfort sleeping, but to hold when you cough, and you will cough a lot after surgery. That's how your body gets the anesthetic out of your system. It HURTS, but gets better after a couple days. You will be sore & tired. My doc (Dr. Daniel Fang) told me to expect to be tired for a couple of months & he was right. Your body needs recovery time from surgery, even though it was endoscopic, they still move a LOT of stuff around in there & of course remove most of your stomach, so be prepared to be tired for a while. This sounds crazy, but also think about when you go to the bathroom, which hand do you use to wipe? The incisions make it very hard to um, reach, so wet wipes are a MUST. I was even told to get a kitchen utensil to help extend my reach, like tongs or something, and I have to say, I did have to do that right after surgery. I know, TMI, but hey! I had really bad gas pains, in my left shoulder blade area of all places, but again my Doc warned it would happen. It feels really painful, like a sprain or something, but goes away in a few days. I took Gas-X to help, but the best thing is walking as much as you can. There are a lot of video blogs on YouTube, just search Gastric Sleeve. Get used to drinking LOTS of Water now, get into the habit of sipping it all day, not just waiting until you're thirsty then gulping it down because you won't be able to do that anymore. If you want to message me privately I'd be happy to share my experiences, I obviously have no brain/mouth filter, so I'll tell you anything you want to know that I know!
  25. be able to wrap a regular size towel around my body after swimming and showering; this is a big TMI if i ever heard one, but why not lol; feel confortable being on top during sex.
