  1. I was feeling a little crummy about my progress (instead of weightloss punctuated by stalls it is more a stall punctuated by a few ounces lost every couple of weeks - and I am only 2.5 months out) and my hair has started falling out - then today I had an ultrasound and the technician asked me to stay while she went back to check that she had the right comparison chart - my liver shrank from 21 to 16 and from severe fatty liver to moderate - so thrilled!! - and a great reminder of why I did this!

    Stalling after 12 days ?

Yep, a stall. You’ll likely have a few more of them while you are losing too. They’re a natural & important part of your weight loss. It’s the time your body takes to reassess your current needs & your weight loss & readjusts things like digestive hormones & enzymes & metabolic rate. You don’t have to do anything except stick to your plan & let your body take the time it needs to recalibrate. They usually last 1-3 weeks. The stall will break when your body is ready. Unfortunately, they can be frustrating because your body doesn’t work to your timeline & needs.

    Stalling after 12 days ?

When I stalled I had to switch something up like when I ate, what I ate, exercised etc Make sure your getting enough protein cause that will make you stall as well…Also NEVER drink while your eating it will expand your stomach…I’m 7 yrs out and have maintained for 5 yrs…I gained 20lbs after 2 yrs and have taken 15 back off and have maintained that for the past 5 yrs… I was 226 when I started and have stayed and maintained at 130. I wish you the best!!! It’s HARD work but it’s ALL worth it!!!

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

This is normal. It's where the instruments were in. The biggest one is always the worst. When I had my sleeve, that was the one that hurt for like 3 weeks. The rest felt ok after a week, but the biggest one was KILLING me 3 weeks out. By 4 weeks I no pain anywhere at all.

    Stalling after 12 days ?

very normal. It's the infamous three-week stall visiting you a little early. The vast majority of us experience that. It usually lasts 1-3 weeks. It's usually the third week (hence the name), but not always. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. Once it broke I dropped like six lbs practically overnight. the standard advice is follow your plan and stay off the scale. It WILL break and you'll be on your way again.

    Recent VSG peeps...

I was sleeved 4/12/23 and went back to work on 5/21. I have a desk job. I had enough PTO to take off 5 weeks.....it was wonderful getting used to the new diet/lifestyle changes while still at home. Bad news........no vacation for me in the near future as i have to build up my PTO 🤣

    Recent VSG peeps...

I was sleeved on 5/30 and returned to work on 6/5 but I wish that I had taken more time. I also WFH with little physical activity. I had initially planned to take the week of 6/5 off as well in case of fatigue but my company has a BS 'unlimited PTO' policy which requires anyone absent for a medical reason for 5 consecutive days to go on short-term disability at 50% pay. With that being said, losing the pay would have been really taxing but not as taxing as working 40+hours was last week. Take the extra time.

    Post op sleeve diet

I literally just made it out of the post-op liquid phase and felt the same way you did. I blundered and ate potato chips that my dbf left unattended. It gets easier after week 2. I started to feel true restriction and felt better after adding eggs, rotisserie chicken, and ricotta to my plan (my plan doesn't have a puree phase, just two stages of full liquids). The change to your appetite and hunger levels will happen so quickly. I was crying because I ate potato chips this past Saturday and by Monday, my appetite had completely changed. I will strongly encourage you to not eat the crackers but only because of the potential damage to your pouch. We are human and make mistakes.

    Happy 64th to me!

Amazing, thank you for sharing, I had my 64th last week too. My new body feels so much younger but my knees give me away.

    Recent VSG peeps...

I'm a week post op today. I went back to work on Monday (desk job) I am definitely exhausted, but I am powering through. I wish I could have WFH this week, but my coworkers have NO clue that I had surgery and WFH would have caused their nosy selves to be in my business and ask too many questions. Honestly, hoping I can go to bed pretty early tonight. I haven't been able to Mon/Tues because I'm also in grad school. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment, lol. I definitely recommend a couple days depending on your job, with potentially the flex ability to WFH, or go home if needed.
  11. Happy birthday to me! My 64th and one year until retirement! The email from this forum reminded me I haven't been here in awhile. I was 275 when I had my lap band back in May of 2009. I got down to my goal weight of 195 by the end of that year. A few times I've slipped back and went close to 240. The band, which I guess they don't do anymore, has been a great tool, but diet and exercise sure played a big part. In 2011 I ran my first of 7 marathons, had to give that up after back surgery in 2014 and I've taken to cycling, which almost killed me in 2020. (But hey the lady that hit me ended up buying me a new camper to use in retirement :) ) I definitely learned I was a stress eater and just knowing that helped. In 2020 because of covid my work moved to home, and I've been in my basement most of the last 3 years. Not going out to lunch everyday helped and adding 1-2 hours back to my day I was able to get out more. Today on my 64th, 14 years after the surgery I'm still at my goal weight of 195, but over the winters I've snuck up to 205-210 a couple of times, but hoping in retirement (huge stress relief) I can get outside and do things to keep me away from food and snack more often. Just came back from a busy one week vacation where I lost 5 pounds because we were out doing things!
  12. Hi Amanda - i am almost 2 week post op and i have not experienced what you have described. I wonder if your mind can only be quietened by talking with your medical team - you sound worried so that might just be the thing to do as you have suggested. I hope all is well - I would guess it is just a major healing site but to be certain, maybe call your medical team xx

    Stalling after 12 days ?

I don't know your surgery weight but nearly 21lb within 12 days of surgery is a lot of weight loss regardless of surgery weight. The high weight loss may be due to dehydration if you aren't getting anywhere near sufficient fluids. At 12 days I wouldn't say its a stall when you don't see a scale loss (but is this one day, two days or more???), but more likely your body is holding on to fluid to rehydrate if dehydration is the issue. You may want to ensure you are getting sufficient fluids, and also lay off the scales for a few days. If you are the type of person that doesn't cope with daily weight fluctuations may be only weigh yourself once a week or once a fortnight.
  14. I’m 12 days post op and i lost 20.9 pounds since surgery. I’m stalling and i wanted to know if its normal and what do I do ?
  15. Does anyone still have sharp pain from any of their incisions a week post op? Debating whether or not I should call (again) to be seen… my right incision has been killing me since surgery. I figured it was just a post op normal but I am a week out from post op and the pain has not weakened at all. If I am not on pain killers (Hydrocodone) I can’t even sit on the couch comfortably or walk… the right incision is so painful and when feeling it it’s pushed into my body (like dips into it, doesn’t lie flat) just wondering if anyone has this as well or if I should contact surgeon.
  16. I just had surgery June 8th. I did 2 week pre op full liquid diet and am finishing up my week of clear liquids. I found a lot of good idea on tik tok. Protein pudding, cream of wheat made with half a banana premier protein shake - for a better flavor. The ninja creami is a game changer. You can freeze your fairlife shake and blend it to have a frosty like consistency. You can add pb2 in it as well and its good. I also like unsweetened decaf tea (cold) mixed with zero sugar lemonade. Outshine no sugar added Popsicles helped me a lot and vanilla greek yogurt mixed with the powder sf pb.

It really just depends on you and how you recover. Some only need a week & others need more. I wasn’t working when I had my surgery but started a new contract at week 5. I struggled because of energy drops, low blood pressure & poor concentration but I always seem to take longer to recover from things. I was very thankful I was only part time. Best advice is take a week or two & then negotiate with your employee to return part time or at reduced hours for another week or so but with the understanding you may need a little more time or may not need it at all.

    5 weeks post op retching?

I was prescribed anti-nausea medication {Ondansetron 8mg) by my surgeon 1 week before my surgery in anticipation of my needing it. I used it a few times but usually after eating. Regardless, Nausea is expected. I would contact your doctor and let him know what's going on though, as to the frequency of it. 3-4xs a day seems a bit much. He can determine if you need to be seen or prescribe meds.

I can't imagine. I'm still six weeks from my surgery date. How about playing some of your favorite music? Or journal about your thoughts and how you feel currently? Or go for a walk as LindsayT suggests? You are now hours away from your surgery. We'll look forward to hearing from you when you're able to share. I wish you the best, Big red man! You'll do great!

Does this make sense? Q about insurance and my doctor.

Did you get this straightened out? I can tell you that your PCP sends the form in. Then you set up 12 Dietician Visits, 6 weight, and BP checks with your PCP or nurse, a sleep study if you are not already using a CPAP, if you are not using a CPAP and they say you have sleep apnea, you are going to have to get set up with at and be compliant with it. When you get closer to finishing your Dietician appointments, you will schedule a psychosocial appointment. Once all of that is completed and you met the goal weight Molina has set for you then you will be referred to the Bariatric clinic. You will meet the surgeon and then do any assessments they have (this will vary from person to person). Then you will get your surgery date. The nice thing about Molina is you will get your own case manager, who will explain everything to you. You can call them anytime. They will let you know every step and piece of paperwork and who handles what and when. They will also periodically call you to check in on you. This case manager is so helpful, because PCP and dieticians do not seem to totally understand the process, and it's because Bariatric is not their specialty, not until you get to the clinic. So stage one, your PCP fills out the form and submits it to your insurance stage two you do all of the appointments and hit the goal weight Molina gives you (Your case manager will call and introduce themselves, plus you will get a letter in the mail. Your case manager is also a nurse and they will ask your weight so make sure the DR puts down an accurate weight, if not petition to have Molina change it) stage three you move on to the clinic and get surgery.

    May 2023 surgeries

Guys I am at week 5 and I am still stalled I don’t know what I am doing wrong!!! I am a total of 45 pounds down and have been stuck at 359/360 for 2 and a half weeks. I exercise everyday walk or swim. I am hitting water and protein goal trying to get my calories to at least 700 in that process but happier if they go over since they want me close to 1000 I don’t know what else to do. I have been pretty good at not weighing my self everyday now but still!!!! How long did your three week stall last

Everything went well with the surgery I'm just so uncomfortable with all this gas I can't even relax and I threw up like three times I've been walking and everything
  24. Almost 5 weeks post op. Occasionally I will start dry heaving or retching. Not necessarily after eating or drinking either, it almost feels random. This happens 3 or 4 times a day usually. I don’t actually throw up, I’ve only puked once or twice post op.
Is this normal? It really sucks. Reposting in this forum because I had no responses in the other.

I had bypass, but recovery time is similar. I took three weeks off but could have gone back after two (but having that third week was nice!). I had a desk job (now retired)
