  1. Wahoo for another 4 lbs. down this week!  Here is my latest update on YouTube:

  2. On day 3 of the pre-op liquid diet. As predicted, those days of low-carb beforehand probably made this all easier. I was foggy yesterday, but it could have been any number of things (the rain, chronic illness, low calories, or no caffeine). The hunger has been there, but not totally unmanageable (I say, having eaten 8 servings of sugar-free jello in three days, because that's on my "unlimited" list and it fills in nicely around the shakes). Maybe it's because I've been sleeping so much this week, though--I'm not awake long enough to be hungry 😂

I gave in and had one bag of caffeinated tea today. Don't look at me like that--my surgeon allows up to 16 ounces of coffee or tea per day, at all points during our program. I was only cutting it out because I don't much want headaches when I'm healing from surgery. I do, however, find that I need a little bit of caffeine to do my homework. Maybe not every week, but this week we're doing ... complicated things you all don't care about.

Cutting down from the amount of coffee I was having to one bag of tea is still something I'm proud of. And the headaches I get when I skip it are manageable enough that I'm not stressed about this one thing, post-op, anymore. (I maybe can't concentrate like I'd like to, but I can read and go on walks!)

Anyway, three days (almost) down, three more to go, then one of only clear liquids (jello, broth, and protein water), and then the big day! ... And then probably several more weeks of liquids only, but I'm not focusing on that right now. 😁

  3. I'm less than 320 for the first time in many many years. I honestly cannot remember when. The lowest I can remember being is 325 back in 2015, but less than 320!?! I'm just over three weeks post-op and I'm down a total of 64.2 pounds lost since June 29, 2018, when I first saw the surgeon.

So i'm two weeks post op and I feel like the first week great! I lost 16 lbs that week....but this week I have only lost 3 pounds! :( What i'm I doing wrong?! Yes, it's definitely not intuitive. I will also warn you that posts about foods that you know you shouldn't eat sometimes elicit "over-the-top" responses. This is a religion for some people and they may not get that you were joking.

  5. "Wellness Week" at work free lunch today: Nachos. Like ... what? Who is in charge of this menu??

  6. Hit my first stall this week. I'm not horribly upset by it..I knew it was bound to happen. Still it's never super encouraging either. On the bright side my butt fits in our kitchen chairs much more comfortably than it used to.

  7. I was reminded today that I have posted in quite some time. I am doing great! I am down 102 pounds from my highest weight and need to lose 3 pounds to get to the doctors goal weight for me of 165. I actually want to get down to 150, but my family thinks that I am getting to skinny! LOL imagine someone telling me that! I have had some stalls and am guilty of weighing myself everyday, but so far so good. When I have a stall or that dreaded teeter totter of bouncing back and forth one or 2 pounds I just adjust my eating and exercise and I start losing again, it has not been easy. It's so exciting to be able to play with my granddaughter and hike and work out and not feel like I am going to kill over. I have also become a sounding board for people that are thinking of have the procedure and that feels good. Over all this has been a godsend for me.

  8. Hi Everyone,

I'm in my 3rd week post-op and have had a very rough time.  I am still on clear liquids as protein shakes and protein drinks make me hurl!!! I've also had a pretty bad case of the foamies.  I'm finding myself with terrible food envy.  Folks bringing their lunch to their desks is driving me insane.  However, today is the first day I feel like I will get all of my fluids in.  That's a plus.  And 30 pounds gone since pre-op is also a bonus.

  9. Stall is finally broken and I am losing again. Stalls suck but I understand them much better now. I am still feeling great and have kicked my workouts up a notch. I went to an arm/abs class that turned out to be all men and "me".  The dudes walked in with their 30 lb hand weights and I have my little 7.5/10 lbs and I was thinking to myself...what did I get myself into, and am I going to embarrass myself?  Well I decided to stick it out and although I couldn't do everything the dudes were doing, I did a pretty darn good job of keeping up and I am proud of myself for being able to stick with it. I decided I am going back again tomorrow and I am going to kill it again. I belong there too!

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I'm afraid to run. Scared to death that I'll damage my knees or break a bone in my feet. I don't know how far down I'll have to go before this isn't a fear for me.

    2. SleeveinIL

      SleeveinIL

I am afraid to run as well. My left knee is bone on bone but I had to try it and see if I could actually do it. I will not be doing it on a regular basis tho. The pain in the knee is killing me today. I have done everything but have a knee replacement and nothing has helped. Doc doesn't really want me to get one at my age. He says I am too young.

That sounds awful. And no ibuprofen. (I soooo miss my ibuprofen :()

I spoke with a co-worker today who was sleeved about a year and a half ago. She just started taking fairly large amounts of ibuprofen. I think she misunderstood the pharmacist, or maybe the pharmacist didn't know she'd had wls, but I told her that my dr. strictly forbade it. She googled it and now understands. I told her to speak with her dr.

  10. Correction on my surgery date: it is September 6th, not 4th. I'm currently doing the 4-week pre-op diet, limited to less than 800 calories with greater than 90g protein. I've got this!

do you have a vitamix? https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/Recipes/Tortilla-Soup?referer_st=&sc=recipe

This one is very tasty. You can use this recipe regardless of whether or not you have a Vitamix. You can cook the ingredients on the stove top and mix it in the blender to smooth it out.

    2. TakingABreak

      TakingABreak

Sorry, I got carried away about the recipe! But, thank you! I know you will also be very successful!

    3. macadamia

      macadamia

I do not have a vitamix, nor will I be buying one after seeing the price! Ooooof! I have a Kitchen Ninja system that works fine and yes, I can cook the soup without needing to run a mixer for 6-7 minutes to "heat" it up... Thanks for the recipe - I think I can modify that with foods I like and can eat. I appreciate it!

  11. Three and half weeks out.  I have lost 34 lbs and I have currently hit my first plateau.  I was advised I am eating to little food and currently light headed.  I have no hunger pains.

I see my surgeon on the 11 of august for my two month appointment.  I am fortune enough to have Bariatric counseling three days a week and PT twice a week. I am finding this really helps

That's really rapid weight loss, Joe!

I'm curious, is the 3x week counseling and 2x a week PT part of your program's standard plan, or something you decided on for yourself? My program has optional personal trainer sessions you can buy, and counseling sessions you can purchase as you wish to make appts for. You can also buy extra sessions with the NUT. The one "freebie" we have is the monthly support group sessions.

    2. Joe78260

      Joe78260

The two programs are optional, however insurance covers it.

  12. Three months post-op today and I'm down 54 pounds. My A1C, which was 10.8 a month prior to surgery, is now at 5.5! Plus, I have gone from a 5x to a 2x :) Just broke the 250 mark, and can't wait to get to Onederland!

      Congrats, you're doing great!

  13. Going crazy worrying about whether I need to do the 6 months program with UHC.  Its been a week and no call from a case worker.  in my certificate of coverage booklet it doesn't say anything about it. I have the choice plan.

  14. I broke my stall this week! Yay!  Also, I started Mederma for scar therapy.  Here's my most recent uploaded video on YouTube:

  15. Tomorrow is my last dietician appt since February 22nd.  She said they would be able to schedule my surgery date tomorrow but it seems as though everyone says they have to wait on ok from insurance co. But I already know my ins pays 100% of surgery and my hospital copay is $430, so hopefully I'll know date real soon. I also know I have to do 2 weeks of pre op even though I've lost 20lbs on my own just from making changes! I've been on every diet there is and lost but always had problems keeping it off. My health was deteriorating quickly and I need to turn this around before it's too late. And permanently.  I've never been more ready physically, mentally, spiritually for this as I am now.

    1. Orchids&Dragons

      Orchids&Dragons

Hope all goes well and they schedule you quickly! You've got some awesome insurance! Between copays and deductibles, I hit our out-of-pocket max which was around $6,600! Beats self-pay, but still!

  16. So the doc wants another week before i try lifting again and then only light weights for another week after that.

i don't know how much of this slow healing process is me just being an old **** or if my post op diet is slowing things down or hell maybe Tricep tear just takes along time to heal.

I do know i dont want to do any damage to it again. Not being able to do much of anything with your right arm is a pain in the ass if your right handed.

well me and the wife and daughter are off to Reno for a family reunion this weekend so that means lots of vegan food (daughter)  sigh

i will weigh in real early in the morning and post my Saturday  update if i lost any weight this week.

need 4 more pounds before August 1- will have my 1 year follow up with surgeon in first week of August

Hope everyone has a great weekend and i'll be back monday to rant and rave against the evils of added sugar and processed carbs. :)

  17. Down another three pounds and had my one-month post-surgery follow-up (although its actually be 7 weeks tomorrow, their scheduling sucks). The nurse practitioner was pleased with my weight loss (36 pounds in 7 weeks) and told me I was cleared to go back to water aerobics and whatever else I would like to pursue exercise wise. Now to find a new pair of tennis shoes :)

      36 pounds - that's awesome! Congrats!

  18. Me and the Scale have been having a staring contest this morning cause i want to weigh so bad it hurts but i know its a bad idea so i am trying to hold out.  I get this way every time i am at a threshold. in this case the 179/180 crossover. based on last weeks weight i should cross over to the 170's this week.

I have  only weighed 170 anything for 2 years of my adult life. oct 1984 till sometime in 1986 when i crossed back into the 180's

well i got the windows and doors open wide and the birds are singing. It is a California Classic today - for those poor souls that have never enjoyed one it is mid 70's to mid 80's and a slight breeze that just begs you to spend the day in the sun.

Now come August when its on its 27 day of 105+ i will be bitchin and moaning to no end :)

  19. I am down from a size 28 to a solid 20. I can even fit into some 18/20s. The motivation I feel when I see myself in these smaller clothes is incredible. I almost don't recognize myself because the transformation is pretty drastic. I met with a personal trainer yesterday that they offer at my office's fitness center and got some basic info. He is going to give me 2 free "trial" sessions if I sign up for at least 2 additional sessions. I am pretty sure I am going to sign up. I am making this the summer of SleeveinIL! I can't be the mother, wife, caregiver and anything else I want/need to be unless I am healthy. Food is fuel! I see the scale moving again and that is also very motivating for me as well. NSV this week...taking a bath (first since before surgery) and my behind and thighs weren't mashed up against the sides of the tub not allowing the water to flow between the front and the back of the tub. The water was able to move around and nothing of me touched the sides of the tub unless I physically moved my legs there. This surgery is giving me some confidence back for sure. I even updated my photo at work because I don't look like that anymore!

    1. TakingABreak

      TakingABreak

It's funny you mention the photo at work! I got questioned a bar this past weekend because my picture didn't look like me anymore. Congrats! You may have inspired me to take a bath :)

  20. Good morning, everyone. I know I've been gone for a bit but I am doing so much better now. It seems as if I am healing right up. The nausea is completely gone and the only time I get an upset stomach is if I eat too quickly. Alas, this is still something of a learning curve. On the upshot, I am ready to return to work and I am going back to tractor trailer driving because it's the best path to make a decent living given my skill set. On July 3rd, I will be starting for Schneider. It's been a few years since I've been behind the wheel of such a big vehicle so I chose the free training (and I don't have to sign an agreement either) offered by Schneider. The particular driving that I got hired for is all Mid-West lanes dedicated to Home Depot so there is no East Coast and no West Coast. In fact, just four states ... CO, NE, MO, and KS. The job is 3 weeks on/1 week off and they fly me between my home in Philadelphia and Kansas City. All in all not a bad deal.

  21. Learning all I can about gastric sleeve.  I think it may be my best option. Going to a surgery seminar next week to learn more.... any tips/suggestions/recommendation etc. welcomed!:)

  22. Some of my surgery incisions are infected (I was told I was at increased risk for infection since I'm diabetic). I got to the doctor in the early stages so its nothing major, but I'm waiting on the cultures to find out which antibiotic is most appropriate to treat the infection. I should hear from the doc's office tomorrow. In the meantime, I have no desire to eat (surgery was two weeks ago) and find myself preferring to drink my protein. Is that normal?

    1. FluffyChix

      FluffyChix

No. It's not normal. But you have an infection that is making you feel bad. So I would prolly do what makes you comfy and allows you to get your protein in, cuz as a diabetic, you're healing is hard anyway and you need that protein now, more than ever. Make sure you are drinking super low carb drinks without any added sugars!!! ((Hugs)) So very sorry you are going through this! :( Hope the cultures come back quickly showing just a run of the mill bug.

    2. Charity G

      Charity G

Thanks! I am drinking a lot of pre-mixed protein shakes (Muscle Milk and Atkins) and Crystal Light flavored waters with a scoop of protein powder mixed in. Glad to hear that maybe as the infection heals I'll feel more like eating purees and moving away from relying on protein drinks.

  23. Bouncing around 243-245 and can't seem to break this stall. Since the month after surgery I haven't lost more than a few pounds. I am tracking my food and getting enough protein (I weigh everything), I have increased my workouts and I am now doing cardio and elliptical for a min of 40 minutes/day as well as weight lifting. I am drinking about 55 - 65  oz of water. I am staying at the 600 - 800 calories as recommended by my surgeon. What is the magic required to drop these pounds? On the positive side, I have energy and am able to move around a whole lot better. I feel good and that says a lot.  This week I had 2 people at work notice and told me I am melting away.  So things are moving, just can't get that scale to budge!!!

  24. I have been stalling for 2 weeks now and I had surgery on 4/24. It's starting to be frustrating!

    1. Apple203

      Apple203

Stalls are maddening, just try to be patient. :)

Have you tried upping your protein?

    3. CurlyV

      CurlyV

Yes, I am pushing through now to get more protein.

  25. Brain dump and rambling...Here I am 7.5 weeks post op and I am stuck at the same 25lb weight loss that I have had for the last 3.5 weeks. I am feeling down, dejected and frustrated with lack of movement on the scale. I am able to get into a lot of clothes and shoes that were troublesome before so I have had some non-weight related wins, but I am ready to scream about the lack of weight loss. I have upped my calories, lowered my calories, increased my exercising and I am hitting all my numbers for protein. I am still having issues with bathroom visits and vitamins making me feel sick to my stomach. On another note, nothing I eat makes me feel sick other than the aforementioned vitamins, no nausea at all from any foods.  I seriously keep asking if I even had the surgery completed because I feel the same. I feel hungry and I FEEL THE SAME as before surgery. I am afraid I am going to be stuck here at 245lbs and not make any more progress. Did I choose the wrong surgery? Should I have done bypass instead of sleeve? Time will tell. Sigh - not a good day for me.
