    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I've been on liquid or clear since 5/31 and it SUCKS. Surgery was 6/7. I'm not going to lie, it does suck. I've eaten a tiny amont of soft foods that are in my next stage coming up next week, but trying not to push it too much. Let me tell you though, that tiny tiny portion of mashed potatoes was fantastic, lol.

How to pick a surgeon in Mexico?

I saw Dr. Russell last week and I’m doing great. A couple of the nurses weren’t fluent in English but spoke enough to communicate what they were doing. However, the surgeon and anesthesiologist both did. I was sent home with my X-rays and a months worth of medications. The room was private with its own bathroom and a TV signed into Netflix. They have a little closet you can put your stuff in with a safe for valuables. The surgical center is in what looks like a mall full of various healthcare providers and the hotel you stay at the last night is connected so you just walk over. The day of surgery I only got ice chips but the next morning I did a leak test then got my tray of liquids. If you have a favorite gatorade flavor let them know. I got grape and an orange to go but when I got blue the next day and said it was my favorite flavor they swapped my to-go bottle with blue, which I thought was really nice.

The line that stuck with you...

I dont have a 'good' but 'bad' was Slimming world, they said I could eat as much rice, pasta and noodles as I wanted and I did. Then later on down the line the woman said you must be eating the wrong foods, you are not loosing weight. I followed that diet religiously, it broke my heart all those weeks not loosing and not knowing why

    Roux-en-y Revision

Sorry if I got too personal. I'm glad they are working with you. And hope all works out. The 41lbs is since the start of the pre-op diet. I lost 15lbs during preop and 26lbs since surgery, that includes to separate stalls that lasted about a week each. I wish the tracker would differentiate the losses. Unless, I imputed them wrong.
  5. @LindsayT Hey! To answer your question: I am not planning on having more children. My insurance does cover the revision and the appointment went well. I will have an Upper GI Single w/contrast done to determine if there is any disruption in my pouch or fistulas formed throughout the path to the remnant stomach. I'm scheduled to go back to my bariatric surgeon in 2 wks. to review the results and go over the next steps. Btw Lindsay you are doing an AMAZING job!! 41 lbs down in 6 weeks out of surgery, that is commendable 🤩👏 You rock!!! Keep up the good work!!

What sort of after care are you needing? I am 1 month out (as of today) and I have been back to my doctor once for just a quick check up. The only thing I have needed since surgery was a refill on my antacid prescription. I have another visit next week, but it is just a nutrition class. Hopefully you aren't having any complications (as that would require an actual doctor), but if you have any questions, or feel like you don't have info on any subject, feel free to ask away here. I am happy to relay things my doctor/nurses have told me and I am sure others would be as well.
  7. I assume everyone on here has battled to lose weight for a long time and has tried multiple stratagies and diets. Along the way we all have an endless supply of life coaches that want to tell you what to do or how you are doing it wrong, if you asked them or not. My question is this. What was the one statement or piece of advice that stuck with you and one that was dumb as hell? I'll go first. GOOD: "Every food choice you make is either healing your body or poisoning it. Every movement choice you make is either helping your body or rusting it." (Dude that was very in shape, 2004). BAD: "You can eat whatever you want as long as you stop eating at 4pm for the day" (Guy that called in sick atleast once a week, 2016) What still sticks with you?
  8. Most people do. I'm a week (8 days, 10 counting before my surgery )post op. So I've been on liquid for the same amount of time. You're going to do fine. Focus more on the life change aspects. Easier said than done ik. But all this coming from a ex food addict. 🫂❤️❤️❤️
  9. I've had more stall than loss, too. Hang in there. ETA: Congratulations on the better health, too!
  10. Does anyone have any recomendations for baby foods? going into week 2 and would like to find some meat and veggie babyfoods that are not horrible to eat. I am focused on the idea of "food is fuel" so it doesnt have to be the best flavor ever but If anyone has suggestions on what they liked that would be great.
  11. Hi everyone. The mid-year sales are everywhere these days and I was trying to buy new shirts and pants online (my latest addiction). The "problem" that I'm facing is that it seems all the brands that I like only had sales on the big sizes (L, XL, XXL) but not M, S or XS. I don't recall this being a problem in the past haha. It must be a good problem to have then. This made wonder what other "good problems" I had since WLS. Here is what I could think of so far in addition to the one above: - I'm now working size S shirts. I need to find a brand that makes size XS shorts that fits nicely without being too tight. Two years ago, I was on the other end of the size chart / having custom-made shirt - We had a refresher safety training at site last week and I was chosen more than once to demo what we learned. I had to climb ladders, go into manholes (mock ones), confined spaces etc. I was never asked to do this before - I can't use my weight as an excuse for not doing stuff around the house that requires climbing on ladders etc. It would be interesting to hear yours.

    Indiana hip plus bcbs

Hello, lovelies! I just had my consult with the surgeon a couple days ago, but unfortunately the nurse that makes all of my upcoming appts to the nut, pulm, etc is in vaca until next week so I didn’t get many of my questions answered. for those of you that have Indiana hip state plus bcbs: I wanted to know let’s say I’m trending downward in weight during my 6 month program, and go in and I’ve gained even a pound, or even an oz, will they deny me? My surgeon said likely not, but I’m not sure he actually knows. I know I don’t have to lose a specific amount of weight, but my concern is what if I gain during those 6 months? Ive looked at my insurance requirements for surgery, and it’s not overly specific, so I can’t exactly get answers through them. Just curious! not sure if it matters but I have uncontrolled high bp and I’m getting checked for sleep apnea, which I’m sure I have, just not on the books yet. I also have high cholesterol so I have at least two co morbidities.
  13. Erm......same. the right side. But I'm on dope so I can imagine your pain. Also my freaking shoulder hurts. I mean call if you feel it's too bad. But I've been told it's early and pain happens for at least four weeks. I did notice more protein intake helped me a little. I have a three year old though and my partners job don't give a flying fxxx about my pain so I had to act like I'm not dead inside 🙄😠. Call the clinic though love. At least get some pain meds that's their job.

Hang in there Allison! Mine broke around 2.5 weeks. It hopefully happens soon for you. Look what you have lost, phenomenal!
  15. I was feeling a little crummy about my progress (instead of weightloss punctuated by stalls it is more a stall punctuated by a few ounces lost every couple of weeks - and I am only 2.5 months out) and my hair has started falling out - then today I had an ultrasound and the technician asked me to stay while she went back to check that she had the right comparison chart - my liver shrank from 21 to 16 and from severe fatty liver to moderate - so thrilled!! - and a great reminder of why I did this!

    Stalling after 12 days ?

Yep, a stall. You’ll likely have a few more of them while you are losing too. They’re a natural & important part of your weight loss. It’s the time your body takes to reassess your current needs & your weight loss & readjusts things like digestive hormones & enzymes & metabolic rate. You don’t have to do anything except stick to your plan & let your body take the time it needs to recalibrate. They usually last 1-3 weeks. The stall will break when your body is ready. Unfortunately, they can be frustrating because your body doesn’t work to your timeline & needs.

    Stalling after 12 days ?

When I stalled I had to switch something up like when I ate, what I ate, exercised etc Make sure your getting enough protein cause that will make you stall as well…Also NEVER drink while your eating it will expand your stomach…I’m 7 yrs out and have maintained for 5 yrs…I gained 20lbs after 2 yrs and have taken 15 back off and have maintained that for the past 5 yrs… I was 226 when I started and have stayed and maintained at 130. I wish you the best!!! It’s HARD work but it’s ALL worth it!!!

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

This is normal. It's where the instruments were in. The biggest one is always the worst. When I had my sleeve, that was the one that hurt for like 3 weeks. The rest felt ok after a week, but the biggest one was KILLING me 3 weeks out. By 4 weeks I no pain anywhere at all.

    Stalling after 12 days ?

very normal. It's the infamous three-week stall visiting you a little early. The vast majority of us experience that. It usually lasts 1-3 weeks. It's usually the third week (hence the name), but not always. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. Once it broke I dropped like six lbs practically overnight. the standard advice is follow your plan and stay off the scale. It WILL break and you'll be on your way again.

    Recent VSG peeps...

I was sleeved 4/12/23 and went back to work on 5/21. I have a desk job. I had enough PTO to take off 5 weeks.....it was wonderful getting used to the new diet/lifestyle changes while still at home. Bad news........no vacation for me in the near future as i have to build up my PTO 🤣

    Recent VSG peeps...

I was sleeved on 5/30 and returned to work on 6/5 but I wish that I had taken more time. I also WFH with little physical activity. I had initially planned to take the week of 6/5 off as well in case of fatigue but my company has a BS 'unlimited PTO' policy which requires anyone absent for a medical reason for 5 consecutive days to go on short-term disability at 50% pay. With that being said, losing the pay would have been really taxing but not as taxing as working 40+hours was last week. Take the extra time.

    Post op sleeve diet

I literally just made it out of the post-op liquid phase and felt the same way you did. I blundered and ate potato chips that my dbf left unattended. It gets easier after week 2. I started to feel true restriction and felt better after adding eggs, rotisserie chicken, and ricotta to my plan (my plan doesn't have a puree phase, just two stages of full liquids). The change to your appetite and hunger levels will happen so quickly. I was crying because I ate potato chips this past Saturday and by Monday, my appetite had completely changed. I will strongly encourage you to not eat the crackers but only because of the potential damage to your pouch. We are human and make mistakes.

    Happy 64th to me!

Amazing, thank you for sharing, I had my 64th last week too. My new body feels so much younger but my knees give me away.

    Recent VSG peeps...

I'm a week post op today. I went back to work on Monday (desk job) I am definitely exhausted, but I am powering through. I wish I could have WFH this week, but my coworkers have NO clue that I had surgery and WFH would have caused their nosy selves to be in my business and ask too many questions. Honestly, hoping I can go to bed pretty early tonight. I haven't been able to Mon/Tues because I'm also in grad school. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment, lol. I definitely recommend a couple days depending on your job, with potentially the flex ability to WFH, or go home if needed.
  25. Happy birthday to me! My 64th and one year until retirement! The email from this forum reminded me I haven't been here in awhile. I was 275 when I had my lap band back in May of 2009. I got down to my goal weight of 195 by the end of that year. A few times I've slipped back and went close to 240. The band, which I guess they don't do anymore, has been a great tool, but diet and exercise sure played a big part. In 2011 I ran my first of 7 marathons, had to give that up after back surgery in 2014 and I've taken to cycling, which almost killed me in 2020. (But hey the lady that hit me ended up buying me a new camper to use in retirement :) ) I definitely learned I was a stress eater and just knowing that helped. In 2020 because of covid my work moved to home, and I've been in my basement most of the last 3 years. Not going out to lunch everyday helped and adding 1-2 hours back to my day I was able to get out more. Today on my 64th, 14 years after the surgery I'm still at my goal weight of 195, but over the winters I've snuck up to 205-210 a couple of times, but hoping in retirement (huge stress relief) I can get outside and do things to keep me away from food and snack more often. Just came back from a busy one week vacation where I lost 5 pounds because we were out doing things!
