  1. Coming up to 8 months post op and life feels better than I remember it being. This week has been a week for NSV's : * completed my first fun run, 8 kms in just on 1 hour * I fit into a size of jeans that I have not worn since I was 14 * feeling great and positive about the direction and the people in my life * am even planing a glamour shoot to show how far I have come. Even the scale is co-operating a bit.
  2. So, I've been MIA for the last 10 days or so because I went on a vacation. It was wonderful! I started out by driving to Myrtle Beach, SC to see my son and his girlfriend. We had a terrific time except that my son was totally taken aback by how little I eat. Both told me that I look fantastic, which is always nice to hear! I hit Planet Fitness (my gym) up there 4 times and it was a blast to workout in the "same" gym, even though the layout was a little different than my home facility. For anyone who is interested, it certainly seemed that there were more tourists than "home" members in there every time I went. I left SC to drive to Kentucky, to a cousin's house up there. She lives in a "holler" and her house is 10 miles back into the woods. She's surrounded by 1,000 Amish-owned acres and her nearest neighbors are all Amish families. I met the Amish family from across the street and they were as fascinated by the "Florida woman" as I was by the "Amish people". Beautiful people, literally the salt of the earth and they have a symbiotic relationship with my Kentucky cousin who I was visiting. The Amish provided a good portion of the produce for our family reunion dinner, including wonderfully sweet tomatoes and corn! Yum! Those family members who have seen me in the last few years spent a lot of time complimenting me on my weight loss, although I can still see every ounce that I need to lose. I kept up with everyone else, including my cousin's 20-something son and his wife, plus my cousin's three grandkids under 3 years old. I didn't do much "exercise" while in Kentucky. No branches of my gym in their small coal-mining town, but I did a lot of walking around the property and got to dig through tons of old family pictures. It was a blast to share memories of departed family members with them all. My scale tonight shows that I gained 3 pounds while I was on vacation, but I'm back at the gym and back on my strict plan tomorrow morning. I kept up with my Water and Protein goals while I was gone, but I indulged in biscuits and gravy one morning and I did some drinking Saturday evening with the family. I don't regret one bite or drink or one minute of the time I spent with them all! So, now I'm home, laundry done, clothes put away, car cleaned out and I'm back to work in the morning. I've missed the gym, though, so I'll be there by 7 am. I'm eager to get moving again! Oh, yes, two NSV's on this trip. The first is that I had the energy to drive a grand total of 30 hours without feeling sleepy. The second is that a distant cousin confessed that they have had a crush on me since I was a girl, and that they think I look better now than I did then!

    First NSV's for me

I'm finally beginning to get nsv's. Whoo hoo! 1. I haven't taken my diabetes medication since the night before my surgery. My numbers have been wonderful, except when I stupidly try some of the foods that I know will shoot them up. I don't do that very often. 2. I wore a pair of my FITTED size 24P slacks today. :bananapartyhat: No elastic, no spandex, no stretch. Honest to goodness khaki slacks. And I could breathe all day long. :high5: Audra

    5 months out and venting

Your at almost 1 lb a week. Which is totally normal. Nearly 2 lbs a week if you don't count post op before fill. I say, RELAX!!! You didn't gain it in 6 months, you shouldn't expect to lose it in 6 months. 30 lbs is gone forever!!! And you only have more to look forward to. Stop stressing and start really concentrating on the program. Don't put so much emphasis into the numbers rather than the nsv's and the other rewards.

    My NSV shocker

What a great series of NSV's. And I love Vegas - so that makes it even better. Good for you. Happy Band Journeys to all.
  11. This past week we went on vacation to vegas. The last time I flew (13 mos ago) I could barely get that seat belt done up. I had to use every ounce of strength to get it buckled (my arms were shaking I was pulling so tight). Also, I thought I had the "bad seat" all the time because my seat would go back when it was supose to stay in the upright position. That turned out to be a little button that my leg would depress in (I had no idea that button was even hiding there). Anway back to the NSV. I fit! Whoohooo, I FIT GOOD! I was able to buckle up and have a good 6 inches of extra belt (never had extra before). AND I finally saw that button and no, my fat does not push it in anymore. I too can keep my seat in the upright position!!!! We literally walked miles and I was able to keep it at a good clip and didnt get tired out and could speak while walking! All good things! I get so concerned with the scale that every now and again it is just so good to see there are changes happening that the scale does not show me. Life is good! :scared:

    My Latest NSV

Great NSV! I have been getting embarassed when we eat out cause I get full on about 2 bites. Then I have the whole meal to take home. I know I shouldn't be embarassed, but I am. Good for you for ordering off the kids menu!! I think I need to either try this or eating off of everyone else's plates, like someone on here mentioned. I just hate going out to eat now!

    My Latest NSV

We went out to dinner last night with the kids and our neighbors to Outback. I wasn't really hungry so I mustered up the courage to ask for the first time if I could order off the kid's menu. The server was very nice and said of course - not a problem. Well, dinner came and they were handing out the food and a different server couldn't figure out where the extra kid's dinner went. Raised my hand and avoided eye contact because I was embarassed. Onto the NSV - by the time everyone had cleaned their plates, I was full and only was able to eat 1/3 of the kid's meal! I took home a "doggie" bag with the balance! I figured then the server knew I wasn't just trying to be cheap! Thanks for letting me share!

  20. I need some :help: and hope someone can lend me some advice. Please let me know if you have tried any appetite suppresents and if they work I went to my dr in Jan to start my WL journey. She put me on some diet pills that made me GAIN weight - I think Water weight since I felt majorly bloated after 2 weeks on these. I went back to her after deciding to get banded. She sent me to start doing pre-op testing to make sure there were no medical reasons why I gained weight. During the tests, she thought I had Type II diabetes, which was just borderline and she said would probably fix itself if I lost weight and exercised. She is all for me being banded BUT I am learning patience early young gwasshoper! I set my surgery up for April 21, 2006. Got all my ducks in a row, (or so I thought) and had to move my surgery back to May 5, 2006 due to a financing glitch I found out a few weeks ago about. I got some test results back and my PCP sent me to a urologist last week, he made me put my surgery on hold :think because tests from 2 & 3 years ago showed I have a mass on my right kidney. He's not sure what it is, could be a vessel crossing that was moved due to enlargement or tumor etc, he said he wasn't second guessing anyone until he did more testing. He set it up where on April 21st I am having a specialized CT done, then MRI next week. I go back to him on May 2nd for all the test results and to see where we go from here. I rescheduled my surgery for the 3rd time now, to May 26th, and have a feeling I am going to be one of those who cannot go forward with banding for awhile. I started a lifestyle change plan on March 31st and started exercising 4-5 times weekly on April 2nd along with high Protein, low carb eating. My problem is I STARVE!!!! lol I can eat something, usually not alot though and then be hungry in an hour. I do mean starve, not head hungry - having a major headache, the shakes, nausea and almost passing out starving. I want to take some appetite suppressents but have no clue where to start or what is effective since I haven't dieted or exercised in 3 or 4 years. TY all, I will ask my pcp when I go back and see if she can prescribe something else until I am banded :plane: Anyone know where I can buy Forelli brand clothing, also how true to size does this brand run? the tag says Made in Turkey RN 73960 I'm asking, because I have a pair of cargo shorts that I haven't been able to fit in for 3+ years until this morning and they are a size 20 :clap2: I know I am losing without being banded yet - I havent weighed in almost 2 weeks (had a few slip ups the past week lol) and this is my NSV for the day, ok and the fact I will look human again instead of "cousin it" after visiting my hair dresser today.
  21. I posted this on another canadian board, but I wanted to share with you guys too, so apologizes to whoever ends up reading this twice!!! I'm just very happy today :biggrin1: ******* Woooooo! I decided to kill some time and go to Penningtons to see what I could find. I mostly wanted to try on some jeans and see if I've gone down very much in size. The jeans I have now are loose-ish, but I just wanted to see what actually FIT. So I grab a couple pairs... I was aiming for a size 22. The ones I was wearing were a 26, but I've also got some in 24 and 25 (weird Walmart size). So, I try them on, and they fitttt! Not tight, not loose, just fit. They're a tad tighter in the thigh than I'd like, and of course too long. One has some kinda yucky embroidery on the back pockets, and the other's back pockets are covered with rhinestones! They were both on sale from $60 to $45, so I decided I'd just get one. I haaate to spend money on clothes, especially now that I won't be able to wear them for years! (or until I wear the inner thighs out and they rip open... anyone else do that?) I decided on the rhinestone ones, cause I figured they'd be easily picked off, and I wear long shirts anyways. There were 30% off signs all over the store, so I played dumb and asked the clerk if the jeans were (more) on sale too, knowing full well that the rack I pulled them off of wasn't marked 30% off. I was hoping I'd get lucky. She scanned them for me, and her jaw dropped. $25, she said! I ran and grabbed the other ones she'd put away, and asked her to check those too. Same thing $25 ! Yeeeeehaw! So I got both. $120 worth of jeans for $50! Anyways... so not only did I get to buy size 22 jeans, but I got a super deal on them. Lucky for me, cause now I'll have to pay someone to shorten them for me. (my days of wearing holes in the backs of my too long jeans are over!) I'm still gonna hold on to my 26,25,24 size jeans, cause I still like them, even if they're starting to look stupid. The day they literally won't stay on, will be their retirement! And some day, my size 26-ers are going to be the ones that me and 3 friends (LOL) stand in and take a picture with! Just wanted to share this with 'yous' (I'm learning NB speak). Mandi

    Change in attitude towards appearance?

I have bought a few new clothes, makeup, shoes..oh yeah shoes. Heels too. I never liked them because of feeling off balance. My hair has not changed but I always did bleach my hair since I was 18. I put makeup on most every day. I don't work so that is different for me. I wear my (casual) heels around the house to do housework in. No kidding! I feel so good about myself that I look in the mirrors now with pride and real joy. I have really lost enough weight that my underwear is smaller and bras are too. (Larger cup but smaller circumference.) I feel more like participating in life to every extent possible. I am 58 Yo and feel like I have taken off 20 years at least. (Maybe 30) I am so very happy with my band. NSV are getting so numerous that the scale is less important to me than the other victories.
  23. Ok so I'm late for work today and I forgot to shave my legs so the skirt i had sitting out to wear was a no go. So I throw on the first pair of pants I see in the closet. They felt a bit loose but I was like..ehh whatever. So I get in my car drive to work, park my car and get out and start walking over to the school. I'm on the other side of the road and I need to cross a busy intersection. The light for walking turns green so I walk across, but i SWEAR I can feel the eyes of all the people in their cars following me across the road. Not to mention this hottie with loads of tattoos walks past me (meaning he must have been behind me). I get to the school and start walking up the stairs when I realize my pants are half way down my ass and my panties are showing!!! :embarassed: They were so loose that they were sliding off and I didn't notice it. I had to get paper clips and clip them to my underwear to keep them on the rest of the day! :guess

    Embarrassing NSV

I haven't had mine slide that far down, but the other day at work my best friend said...I think someone moved out of the back of those pants...they went in the "not going back there" pile of clothes I am collecting. Yesterday I noticed I was occasionally stepping on my pants...I've lost so much in my legs my pants had gotten too long. Ah NSVs the best part of this. Paper clips...I'll remember that...lol...good one!
