  1. I have to share my excitment! I was banded in July at True Results in Houston. I've had 4 fills now. The first 3 fills I was only given .5 cc. I was under the impression that that's all they would do at True Results, so imagine my surpise yesterday... The nurse asked me how my hunger level was in between meals... I told her a 6 (out of 10).. so she gave me a 1 full cc! I'm now at 7.2 cc. Feeling the restriction now .. hoping it stays like this!! Much love and happiness to all

    Newbie

I have already had my consultation with Dr. Spiegel and waiting for insurance approval. I have United Healthcare and am very anxious to get this done. I have tried everything to lose weight. When I went to see Dr. Spiegel on 2/7/06 my BMI was 38 so I am hoping I won't have too much of a struggle especially since during my pregnancy I had gestational diabetes. I am married and have 1 child, Carson 19 months. I want to have another baby but want to be in better shape,Healthwise.:nervous
  3. I have the same issue. Do you set a timer for yourself? I use the timer on my microwave. sometimes i find myself nearly done with still 10 mins left on the timer. Lately i have been making sure i put down my fork between bites and if i feel like im eating too quickly ill just get up and walk away from the plate for a few mins...
  4. Hello everyone, I am new here. I am going through the steps now for the insurance and hope to have it done in December. What I would like to know, is anyone that has been sleeve for 10 years or longer.

    Harder than I thought

I'm so sorry for your losses.. I can't imagine how hard this is for you two. Protein bars are another choice for sure but just be careful of the calorie content. 1 gram of protein shouldn't be more than 10 calories. So a 20gm Protein Bar should be 200 calories or less. A lot of the protein bars are just as bad a candy bars. I'm 7 months out and for me food is still blah.. I wish I could find at least one dish that wows me..but for now it's like "well that was disappointing". This surgery definitely has turned me into a picky eater. I'm hoping this gets better for both of us. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I am so excited to finally be scheduled for surgery! My date is Feb 28! WOOHOO! I have been attending a WLS support group weekly and finished up all my classes in December. Took FOREVER (not really but it sure felt like forever lol) to finally get my mental health eval. Went through an almost 600 question test prior to seeing the psychologist. 2 weeks later I saw the doctor for my in person visit. I was slotted for 90 minutes and was out of there in 15! He basically asked if I had questions and said a few things to make sure I was ready for the changes ahead. The doctor said he would put in my report by the end of the week (my appt was on a Wednesday). I jokingly told him he still had 1 hour and 15 minutes slotted for my appt so he had plenty of time to write up my report Well apparently thats what he did haha. The group I had been going to all said it would take at least 2 weeks out from that appt before I would be scheduled to meet with a surgeon. The day after my appt, I got a call from surgery asking if I could be there Friday morning. UM YEAH! Of course I would be there I was terrified going into the appt, hoping I would like the doctor since he is not the one I orginally wanted. Well his intern started to scare me a bit. He was suggesting that I might be better off with the RNY. NO WAY did I want that surgery and my family would have flipped if I switched to it anyways. He was going on and on about how I could lose 10% more of my weight, well no thank you, at my weight its not worth the addition risks to lose a few extra lbs. So he went off to get the doctor, now I had read up on him already, everyone said he was a great surgeon but had a bad bedside manner. What do I care about that though?? All I care is that he knows what hes doing. Well I thought he was great. He is very direct, he doesnt sugar coat things, which is great! I appreciated that he was so straight forward with his expectations of me and what I can expect from him too. He is very conservative in his treatment and repeatedly told me if I have any issues post surgery to make sure to contact him ASAP and not to play the waiting game with anything. He is also putting me on blood thinners for 30 days. Normally he only has patients with my BMI do it while in the hospital and saves the blood thinners at home for patients with a BMI over 50 but because I had issues with clotting in pregnancy with no known cause (all my labs for clotting and autoimmune disorders were fine) he thinks its best to just play it safe and do 30 days worth. I really did like him and felt totally at ease with the surgery once I left my appt. Most the doctors at the hospital only require a 1-3 day liquid diet pre surgery but he requires 2 weeks sooooo now Im trying to prepare myself for that. Im going to start it on the 15th because there is no way Im starting it on Valentines day lol. Ive started buying Protein drinks, bought AMP today to try, hoping its not too terrible, especially since its on sale at GNC right now Anyways, move on over people, I'm ready to join you all on the losers bench

8 Months Out, What's The Word?

Coming just past the 10 month mark and 150 pounds gone, only about another 10-12 to go to my goal (surgeon never made a goal for me). Life is better, easier, shopping is way more fun. Still have alot of work I want to do to my body around toning up and getting rid of the extra rolls, but will see where my body lands on weight and then assess the excess skin situation. Exercise is part of my daily routine and something I enjoy and helps reduce the stress in my life...life really is a whole new adventure Also I am no longer Obese, i am purely overweight and I am ok with that.

    Stalled after 1.5 weeks?

That is weird I thought people get losing weight week after week. I get my surgery(bypass) on 01/19. What is this 3 week stall you’re talking about?
  11. I was banded 9-1-09 (so 10 mos ago?). I have lost 130 lbs so far (YAY!!) and am the smallest I have ever been as an adult. I have done this with no fills at all. Nothing. My band is completely empty. Even the 2cc of Fluid that came in it has been removed. I had to have my port removed last Nov (3 1/2 mos post-op) due to an abcess around the port and he removed that 2cc then. So I don't have a way for my band to be adjusted, even if I wanted it. I have exceeded what my surgeon projected at my pre-op appt. He says he has had a couple of patients to have success with minimal fills, but none to have no fills.....until me. My question is this: has anyone else experienced this? I am just wondering how common this is. I am definately NOT complaining (or trying to brag)! ROFL! I watch my carbs/sugars/fats very closely and work with a trainer 3x a week. Am I just weird?
  12. I'm 10 days post op and right now I have the worst heartburn. My doctor didn't write me any kind of prescription though. I was wondering is it okay to have a chewable tums?
  13. I agree with all comments! but just a few..my best friend my hubs who has believed in me since day 1 we have been married 15 yrs an he seen me at my worst. He is my biggest fan an supporter. He takes me to my app's an we have fun together. the road I was on with over 12 dx's if it hadn't been for 2 of my specialist referring me to WLS an supporting me 6 months ago I would have been bigger an not 94 pds lighter! my endocrinologist told me without this tool even with all the legit efforts the weight was not coming off. it was a blessing for me thats for sure. I dont care if I dont eat like a so called "NORMAL" person portions..thats what got me where I was..society does NOT focus on healthy protions! an its obvious. I eat to live. not live to eat. I dont allow social scenes that all they focus on is having a great time around food an drinks. But I have learned that I can still be social without having all the conversations around food! this tool an the pre education that we get before you are even qualified to have it (at least I was) the education an evaluations were alot of time an learning put in. I learned alot. I did this for me. an I am soo grateful my hubs supports me 1000% ...mentally I have changed emotionally I have changed. my self confidance is back ( although I still get dressed an undressed alone) haha...not used to this new body form yet. working on it! I was fat for so long it takes some time to adjust. (just me) but I am proud of what I have accomplished. an I couldnt have done it without my medical team supporting me an backing me up. I knew going in this there could be issues. its major! I was willing to take that chance I was not about to waste another day depressed, fat an in victim mode. 10 yrs of therapy an still do see phsycologist that helps me with the new me perspective. most of all I thank my God my creator Jah for giving me the endurance an strength to get this far in life an sustaining us an for the love me an the hubs share. (yea I got sappy) oh well!! being honest ppl! Im out of the spiraling dark hole an seeing light an enjoying it again an I am 51 an feeling like our life together is even going to better then ever now an in the new order to come ! sorry so winded got going on a roll here..lol..
  14. I am on this Facebook page which is very helpful! They call it 5 days pouch reset and they go back to beginning! Day 1- liquid liquid protein drink, day 2- smoothie protein day 3- purée protein 4- soft protein like eggs, ground turkey, 5- normal protein meal! Just go back to your post surgery rules, drink at least 64 oz water, take your vitamins, keep your carb below 50 gr per day! You will start to lose! And you can repeat as many times as you wish! They start this challenge every Monday for 5 days! Then many restart the next Monday again! Cut sugar, carb and fat and Focus on your protein! I am post op for 2 years and stopped losing at around 16 months out and was plateaued for couple of months! Just started this reset thing 2 weeks ago and after almost 6 months start to lose and 5,5 lb down in 10 days!

Approved for Band not Sleeve;(Need some advice.

Why specifically is the sleeve contradicted for MS? There are many success stories with the lapband, but overall stats aren't that great. I personally don't think most people should consider the band at this point in time given the other options available. I am biased - had the band for 10 years and it was not a good experience.
  16. I'm 8 weeks post op. I seem to have heck getting my first goal of 300. On monday I was 304. Today, weds, I'm 306. It's like my body is doing the same ol song and dance it used to. Not very promising seeing so many at the same timeline as me dropping like crazy. Anyone else have this problem? What do yall do to get going again? 5' 11" OP 9/16/19 HW 365 PO 343 CW 304
  17. Gosh, what a loaded question! Just like Donna said - I wasnt living life to the fullest when I was heavy. I go to water-parks without being freaked out that "people are looking at me". I dont even notice that stuff anymore. Or the "am I the biggst one here?" question we all wonder when we are MO. Its given me a completely different mindset of when I was MO. I now have the confidence to look people in the eyes and begin a converstaion INSTEAD of waiting for people to speak to ME first. Perfect example: About 2 weeks ago I saw a guy I graduated with... 18 years ago (wow!) Im now about 10 pounds lighter then I was back then. He and I stood and talked for the longest about where weve been for 18 years - and I never felt embarrassed or uncomfortable conversing with him. And I could tell that he was equally interested and excited in visiting with me. That was neat. If I hadnt lost 70ish pounds with my band, I wouldnt have felt comfortable enough to talk to him. I wouldve either avoided him or just made small talk and moved on. Anyway, there's a whole lot of great personality changes that happen when you lose a big amount of weight. Its actually every aspect of your life that changes... not just personality, but clothing styles change, sex life changes, the way other people interact with you. Its awesome. Honestly!

    pre op diet

I've heard some lose 10 lbs. It all depends on your body.

    pre op diet

I hope to be banded in February. Because of potential fatty liver of his patients, my surgeon requires 10 days of 1000 calorie or less diet then 2 days of a liquid diet prior to the surgery. Although, really I don't think I would mind a longer liquid diet. Many of my so called "successful" weight loss attempts were long term liquid - usually water only - fasts. But then, to no one's surprise the weight all came back on. So, now I am here.
  20. I'm 3.5 weeks out from being banded. Over the last week I've experienced extreme nausea and a lot of dry heaves. I saw my Dr. on Tuesday and she prescribed phenergan but otherwise wasn't too concerned. She also keeps chalking up my ailments to "nerves" which is partially true but not entirely. I just constantly feel like I'm going to vomit and I dry heave occasionally for 5-10 minutes at a time. I thought it was an antibiotic I was taking but I haven't had that for 2 days and I'm still sick. Has anyone else had this happen? Did it pass? I can't stand having to live like this!
  21. I was sleeved on the 12th. I lost 10 pounds in the first week. I haven't lost anything since 6/18. It is frustrating! All we do in drink a measly amount of calories each day yet the weight lingers. Very frustrating!
  22. Starting weight 273 currently on liquids finding it hard to get all my protein

    Kaiser Question

I had surgery at West LA. Did you go to Options already? If you have been to Options already. Then at the Surgeon appointment. He/She will see if you have reached the 10% goal or are very close to it, if you are then they will set up a surgery date. Kaiser has approved as long as the surgeon says it a go! They usually will have the surgical coordinator call you to set up a surgical date and pre surgery appointment. On the pre surgery appointment you follow up with the surgeon once more, draw labs (if need be), see anesthesia, fill out paper work, apply for short term disability (if you plan to be off work). They are pretty good.
